Patrick Dempsey is returning to broadcast television as the lead star in Fox's new thriller series, Memory of a Killer. Dempsey is best known for playing Dr. Derek Shepherd, aka "McDreamy," in the early seasons of the long-running ABC series Grey's Anatomy until his departure in season 11 in 2015, which also marked his last network television show until now.

Per Deadline's report, Dempsey is set to lead Fox's straight-to-series Memory of a Killer, where he will play a hitman battling with early-onset Alzheimer's. The series, penned by Ed Whitmore and Tracey Malone, takes inspiration from the 2003 Belgian film De Zaak Alzheimer, previously remade into Memory by director Martin Campbell and with Liam Neeson playing the lead role.

How ‘Another Simple Favor’ Director Paul Feig Finally Made His First Sequel – Even as He ‘Kept Trying to Chicken Out’
Image
Light spoilers ahead for “Another Simple Favor”

Paul Feig has no shortage of beloved films in his catalogue, but one thing those films have never had is a sequel. Now, with “Another Simple Favor,” the director has finally made his first — though he definitely “kept trying to chicken out on it.”

Now streaming on Prime Video, “Another Simple Favor” comes seven years after its predecessor “A Simple Favor” first hit theaters, and reunites stars Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively as Stephanie Smothers and Emily Nelson respectively, for another dark, comedic murder mystery. This time, the story goes international, bringing the women to Capri.

Given that the original film grossed nearly $100 million worldwide at the box office on a $20 million budget, you’d be forgiven for thinking that a sequel was inevitable, and being surprised it didn’t come sooner. But, according to Feig, crafting a follow-up was “challenging and terrifying,...

Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom Try to Stop Crime With Improv in Amazon’s ‘Deep Cover’ Trailer
Image
Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom and Nick Mohammed try to save the world with improv in the trailer for the action-comedy movie Deep Cover.

Director Tom Kingsley’s feature is set to begin streaming via Amazon Prime Video on June 12. Paddy Considine, Sonoya Mizuno, Ian McShane and Sean Bean round out the cast.

Deep Cover centers on Kat (Howard), an improv teacher recruited by an undercover cop (Bean) to enlist two of her students (Bloom and Mohammed) to impersonate criminals as they try to stop crime in London.

“You were so good,” Bloom assures Mohammed during a tense moment. “You committed. It was inspiring.”

Later, Howard scolds Bloom by saying, “I told you not to escalate.” He replies, “It’s where the scene went.”

Kingsley (Doctor Who) helmed the film from a script credited to Derek Connolly, Colin Trevorrow, Ben Ashenden and Alexander Owen. Trevorrow, Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald serve as producers.

Image
Love, laughs, and labor pains — these movies prove pregnancy is the ultimate plot twist.

I watched the new Amy Schumer comedy,“Kinda Pregnant” with my wife last night and it was (on the whole) a good time. First, it’s actually funny and second, it pays off the high concept in all the ways you want it to (more on this shortly). I love romantic comedies, and so it got me thinking about all the other rom-com pregnancy movies out there. Not that many get made (Hollywood is a male-dominated industry), but there are some excellent movies among the ones that did. Here’s my list of the top 7 pregnancy rom-coms you can stream right now.

No. 6: ‘Kinda Pregnant’

‘Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy’ Put Leo Woodall in a Wet White Shirt — and the Costume Team Spent a Full Day Testing for the Perfect One
Image
“When people asked me, ‘What would be the thing that you want to do?,’ it’s always been to do a rom-com with Working Title,” “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” costume designer Molly Emma Rowe told IndieWire during a recent interview. “So to do the rom-com with them was really… I was like, ‘Ok, the manifestation of that went really well, I have to say.'”

Yes, Bridget is back — and in a more melancholy offering than the previous three installments. There is still plenty of slapstick and romantic entanglements, but life for Bridget hasn’t been smooth since she reunited with Mark Darcy at the end of “Bridget Jones’ Baby.”

Now four years widowed, Bridget finds herself at a crossroads when the film begins, until she makes the choice to do more than survive. She’s going to live! She promptly meets two new romantic entanglements — the younger...

Box Office: ‘Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy’ Debuts to $35 Million Overseas, ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Nears $200 Million Globally
Image
Moviegoers are still mad about Bridget Jones.

“Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” the fourth installment in the love-struck franchise, opened solidly to $35.5 million from 71 markets at the international box office. Those ticket sales outshined “Sex and the City 2” as the biggest start for a romantic comedy in comparable overseas markets, according to distributor Universal Pictures. The film, starring Renée Zellweger as Bridget Jones, debuted on Peacock in the United States.

The fourth “Bridget Jones” enjoyed the biggest start in the United Kingdom and Ireland with $14.8 million, followed by Australia with $3.3 million, and France (where Studio Canal is handling the rollout) with $3.3 million.

Though domestic cinema operators are disappointed that “Bridget” isn’t playing in U.S. theaters, the franchise has always been far bigger at the international box office. For 2001’s “Bridget Jones’s Diary” ($334 million globally), 2004’s “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason” ($265 million globally) and 2016’s “Bridget Jones’s Baby...

‘Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy’ Director Michael Morris On Telling An “Authentic ‘Bridget Jones’ Story” 24 Years Later, “Foundational” Balloon Scene And More
Image
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy director Michael Morris faced the challenge of aligning the titular character readers and viewers know and love with a major tragedy in her life followed by her resilience to keep living, not just surviving.

The fourth film introduces two new love interests — Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Mr. Walliker and Leo Woodall’s Roxster — into Bridget’s orbit as she gets through the early period of grief following the death of her husband Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) in between Bridget Jones’ Baby (2016) and Mad About the Boy.

“The loss of someone unlosable in your life is, sadly, just something that so many of us have to deal with,” Morris said. “Because of the nature of that, of where [Bridget] is, because the world feels maybe a little bit unstructured in some in some ways that make us anxious these days, I think it’s important for the movie,...

Renee Zellweger talks 'strange' return to Bridget Jones
Renee Zellweger admitted returning to the 'Bridget Jones' universe felt "strange".The 55-year-old actress has already played the title character in the 2000 original, 2004’s 'Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason' and 2016’s 'Bridget Jones’s Baby' and admitted it felt strange at first when returning for 'Bridget Jones: Mad About a Boy'.She told Variety: "It was really strange meeting up with the friends again in Bridget’s flat, and sitting in the pub downstairs from Bridget’s flat, and looking at each other thinking, ‘Isn’t this weird?’ It’s so weird that we’ve come together again and it’s become a thing that we’ve been blessed to do again and again. It’s crazy."While Bridget's on-screen love Mark Darcy (played by Colin Firth in previous movies) has been killed off, she has two new hunky leading men to choose from in the new movie,...

New 'Bridget Jones' Movie Tops the Streaming Charts
Image
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy celebrates Valentine’s Day by ranking No. 1 on Peacock. Renée Zellweger returns to the small screen as the romantic comedy’s titular character for the first time since Bridget Jones’s Baby (2016) and discovers the "casual cruelty" of being ghosted by a new lover. However, despite nearly a decade having passed, the latest sequel in the franchise is scoring with both critics and audiences, even though the film has killed off Bridget’s husband and fan-favorite Mark Darcy (Colin Firth). Book lovers know that Mark also died in author Helen Fielding's 2013 novel of the same name.

Peacock's Mad About the Boy currently registers a “Certified Fresh” 85% on the Tomatometer against 80 reviews posted by the critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans are also enjoying Mrs. Darcy's return to the dating world, as evidenced by the rom-com’s Popcornmeter rating (formerly the Rt audience score) of 83%. This time around,...

Renée Zellweger Says the Long Gaps Between ‘Bridget Jones’ Movies Were ‘Essential’ to Getting the Sequels Right
Image
It’s been nine years since we last caught up with the lovely Bridget Jones, and surprisingly, that’s not even the longest gap between films in the series. But, according to franchise star Renée Zellweger, those extended gaps are key to the story.

Hitting Peacock on Friday, “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” marks the fourth installment in the beloved franchise, and catches up with Bridget Jones as she navigates life now as a widow and mother of two. Yes, sadly, Colin Firth’s Mark Darcy is dead in this film.

Clearly, a lot has happened since we’ve last seen her, and for Zellweger, having that much life transpire between films is “essential.”

“I love it. I love the time in between,” she told TheWrap. “Because, well, like all of us, we change, and every reconnection with her in the different chapters of her life is a rediscovery,...

How Does 'Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy' Fit Into the Series' Timeline?
Image
Everyone's favorite rom-com icon has returned to the screen "just as she is," but just where is she on her journey? Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boyis the fourth installment in the Bjcu, following the original Bridget Jones's Diary (2001), Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004), and Bridget Jones's Baby (2016). The timeline also canonically follows a chronological order, so Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy sees Bridget at her oldest and wisest.

The reviews thus far reflect thiswith a glowing positivity, saying it is "the best Bridget Jones sequel yet." This iteration of the beloved British heroine's journey is the series' first streaming exclusive, available only on Peacock until it releases in theaters internationally (besides America) today, Valentine's Day. ‘Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy’ Review: She’s Back!
Image
It’s 3:00pm Pst and I’m calling it: “Bridget Jones” is one of the best movie franchises. It’s not an uninterrupted victory parade of total success, since “The Edge of Reason” was more like a speed bump than a story. But for the last 2.5 decades, these movies have grown out of a pitch perfect romantic comedy classic and into a sweet and enduring saga of life going on, and on, as Bridget Jones — played beautifully by Renée Zellweger — discovers that every ending is another beginning, every tragedy is surmountable, and that life is always worth living when you’re armed with hope and good humor.

That streak continues with “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” a movie that finds the title character middle-aged and widowed with two children and no direction. These movies always remind us how easy it is to lose direction, and how important it...

‘Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy’ Review: A Heartfelt and Hilarious End of an Era
Image
Though many anticipated 2016’s ‘Bridget Jones’s Baby’ to be the final installment into this sweet and hilarious little franchise, Bridget is back for one final round, as the team closes off her story for good. After the tragic loss of Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), Bridget (Renee Zellweger) navigates life as a single mother to two young children, balancing work, family, and a surprising new romance. Though this movie may not be entirely necessary, the bundles of laughs, terrific performances, expert exploration of grief and motherhood and many nods to its three predecessors not only prove that Mad About the Boy is a worthy entry into the franchise, but one that completes this story perfectly.

We pick up with Bridget and her two children, Mabel and Billy, just four years after the death of their husband and father Mark Darcy. Billy has fond memories of his father, whilst Mabel is near...

‘Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy’ Cast and Character Guide: Who’s Who and Who’s New?
Image
It’s time to catch up with Bridget Jones once again and, as always, life is pretty different for her.

In “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” now streaming on Peacock, we find Bridget (Renée Zellweger) a mother of two and, sadly, a widow. Her husband died four years ago on a humanitarian mission in the Sudan.

But, in true Bridget Jones fashion, she’s got two new men in her life. And you’ll probably recognize both of them.

Here are the key players in “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.”

Renée Zellweger in “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” (Peacock) Bridget Jones (Renée Zellweger)

Renée Zellweger returns as Bridget Jones, after playing her in the first three films. The two-time Oscar winning actress is of course also known for starring in “Chicago,” “Judy,” “Jerry Maguire,” “Bee Movie” and more.

How to Watch the ‘Bridget Jones’ Movies in Order
Image
The fourth installment of the “Bridget Jones” franchise is upon us, and that might mean you need to play a bit of catch-up to remember everything that’s gone down.

In the newest entry, “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” we find Bridget as a widowed mother of two, after the tragic passing of Mark Darcy (Colin Firth). But, as always, she finds herself in a bit of a love triangle.

We won’t get into spoilers here, we just want to prep you for it all. And that means making sure you’ve seen all three previous films.

How to Watch the ‘Bridget Jones’ Movies in Order

Though some franchises like to make the order of films apparent by tossing a number on at the end — for example, “Paddington 2” — the “Bridget Jones” series does not operate that way.

So, here’s the official order (both in terms of...

Bridget Jones is back! Here’s how to stream ‘Mad About the Boy’

Renée Zellweger returns as Bridget, navigating love, loss, and motherhood in the latest sequel.

Bridget Jones is back and ready to charm us all over again! In “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” Renée Zellweger returns as Bridget, now navigating life as a single mom after the loss of her husband Mark Darcy (Colin Firth noooooo). Juggling work, raising kids, and reentering the dating scene, Bridget finds herself in all-too-relatable situations. Lucky for us, Hugh Grant is back, and Chiwetel Ejiofor joins the cast, bringing a fresh dynamic to this classic franchise. With plenty of romance, misadventures, and, of course, diary entries, this latest chapter is a must-watch for longtime fans and should be a great ride for newcomers as well. 'Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy' Reviews Net Fresh Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
The fourth entry in the popular Bridget Jones film franchise, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, is set to debut on Peacock and theatrically in other parts of the globe in time for Valentine's Day. Released nine years after the previous film, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy sees Renée Zellweger reprise her iconic role as Bridget Jones, who is attempting to re-enter the dating scene as a single mother after the death of her husband, Mark Darcy (Colin Firth in the previous films). The reviews are in, and it looks like Bridget Jones is back baby...but not to be confused with Bridget Jones Baby.

Bridget Jones Baby debuted on Rotten Tomatoes at 83% based on 12 reviews. Donald Clarke of The Irish Times gave the movie a 4/5 rating and said, "Mad About the Boy says things worth hearing about grief and the realities of aging. It is hard to imagine...

Why Hollywood Keeps Sending Rom-Coms Like ‘Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy’ Straight to Streaming
Image
In “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” the neurotic, lovelorn heroine hasn’t just swapped cigarettes for Nicorette. She’s traded the big screen for Peacock, a second-tier streaming service where the franchise’s fourth entry will debut on Feb. 13.

“[People] will watch this one at home,” says Helen Fielding, the author who created Bridget Jones. “If you’re Bridget’s generation, it will be with a bottle of wine and a tub of ice cream. If you’re Gen Z, it will be with lots of minerals, potions and slippers. But it’s a good movie to watch on the sofa.”

Relegating “Mad About the Boy” to streaming signals how far the romantic comedy has fallen in the 24 years since Bridget first captured audiences’ hearts. When “Bridget Jones’s Diary” hit theaters in 2001, the genre was at its zenith, with Julia Roberts, Reese Witherspoon, Sandra Bullock and of course Bridget herself,...

‘Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy’ Review: Renée Zellweger Back For Round 4 In A Rom-Com True To Itself And Its Irresistible Star
Image
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Bridget Jones comes to the rescue in a season where the holiday of love has so far been dedicated to horror (Heart Eyes) and action (Love Hurts). The latter, a violent Jackie Chan ripoff, is the one Universal chose to release in theaters in the U.S., but the fourth go-round with the delightful romantic comedy Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is the one Universal should have given as a valentine to U.S. exhibition. Instead, it is only being released in theaters internationally, and of course the UK for this very British movie. As for America? Well, you better subscribe to Peacock because inexplicably it is going day-and-date straight to streaming.

Studios still aren’t learning the lessons of last year’s surprise holiday season theatrical hit Anyone But You, or for that matter the Bridget Jones franchise itself, which has...

‘Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy’ Review: Renée Zellweger Charms in What Feels Like a Sweetly Romantic but Mild Finale
Image
In the mid-2010s, there was a funny Twitter account called @ModernSeinfeld, which floated ideas for “Seinfeld” episodes as if the show had lasted into the 21st century. (Sample episode: “Jerry’s Gf texts in the movies but acts like it’s okay because she sits in the last row.”) At this point, you could almost imagine devising something similar for Bridget Jones, the winsomely discombobulated London singleton who first appeared, in the novel “Bridget Jones’s Diary,” back in 1996. I’m thinking of potential movie comedies like “Bridget Jones: Love Me Tinder,” “Bridget Jones: Last Brexit to Brooklyn,” and “Bridget Jones’s Old Tweets that Got Her Canceled.”

There’s a Tinder reference in the new Bridget Jones movie, “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” along with japes about Harry Styles and lip serum that you buy on the dark web (it turns Bridget’s mouth into a faux-Kardashian swollen...

The 7 Best Movies on Peacock in February
Image
The biggest movie coming to Peacock in February is arguably “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” which is set to start streaming exclusively on the platform on Valentine’s Day. As of this writing, though, the jury’s still out on whether or not that film can make up for the mistakes of 2016’s “Bridget Jones’s Baby” and take the popular rom-com franchise back to its former heights. Fortunately, you don’t have to wonder about the quality of some of the other movies that are freshly available to stream on Peacock this month.

Here are the seven best movies coming to the platform in February.

“Gone Baby Gone” (Miramax Films) “Gone Baby Gone” (2007)

Ben Affleck’s directorial career may have gone quiet in recent years, but his first effort as a director, 2007’s “Gone Baby Gone,” remains one of the more impressive debuts we’ve seen over the past 20 years.

‘Bridget Jones 4’ advance tickets selling faster than ‘Barbie’, report UK cinemas
Image
Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy is enjoying bigger advance sales a week ahead of release in UK and Ireland than was the case in summer 2023 with Barbie, according to two cinema chains that shared data with Screen.

At Odeon, by yesterday morning – one week ahead of the film’s February 13 UK and Ireland release – the multiplex chain said it had sold around 70,000 tickets, outselling Barbie in the comparative pre-sale period. Around 20% of tickets had been sold for the Thursday preview day, and around a third for Valentine’s Day (February 14).

At boutique chain Curzon, advance sales of the Universal...
