Wind River Producer: Taylor Sheridan Succeeded Because Hollywood Kept Him “Caged” for 20 Years
Image
The Wind River producer Peter Berg has argued that one of the most significant aspects that contributed to Taylor Sheridan’s success has been the industry keeping him “caged” for two decades. Known to be the force behind Sicario, Yellowstone, Mayor of Kingstown, and other major titles, Sheridan has risen to become one of the most prolific creators in film and television in recent years.

And Berg credited his success to his long struggles and persistence in Hollywood. In an interview with Gold Derby published on May 5, he admitted,

People have asked me what I think your secret is. And I said, “Well, you take a smart guy with a lot of talent, and then you keep him caged up for 20 years. He’s just getting hungrier and hungrier, and then you let him out. The man’s gotta eat.” I don’t know that people appreciate that enough about you,...

‘Soul to Squeeze’ Bends Minds on Prime
Image
When Soul to Squeeze arrives on Amazon Prime on 10 July it offers more than a conventional thriller. The film charts the experience of Jacob Stafford, played by Michael Thomas Santos, who volunteers for an experimental therapy aimed at curing his psychological distress. Viewers follow Jacob into a fragmented reality that unfolds within a single location. A house conceals a tunnel into his subconscious mind.

Director and writer W.M. Weikart framed the project around a gradual transformation of aspect ratio. The screen begins in a boxy 4:3 format and widens throughout the story to a full 2.35:1 by the final frame. This technical choice echoes Jacob’s own expanding perception as he confronts memory lapses, distorted time and unsettling revelations.

Weikart is no stranger to visually inventive work. His previous credits include the official music video for “Wasteland” by New Originals, featuring Daru Jones, Adrian Belew and Jerry Harrison, and the animated short Yellow,...

Chrissie Hynde Praises Taylor Swift: ‘Shows You What a Girl With a Guitar Can Do’
Image
Earlier this month, the Pretenders kicked off a European tour, and while on the road, Chrissie Hynde was able to catch another big show: Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. In an Instagram message, Hynde wrote about how bowled over she was by Swift.

“I saw Taylor Swift (you may have heard of her) in concert the other day,” Hynde wrote. “Just shows you what a girl with a guitar can do. Last time I loved a show that much was Aldous Harding. You remember me raving about it.”

The most Wtf Moments from What We Do In The Shadows [Spoilers]
Image
In a series that’s almost entirely composed of outrageously shocking over-the-top monster shenanigans – as it comes from the twisted genius of showrunners like Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement – it’s pretty tough narrowing it down to the most jaw-dropping scenes and situations on display. But since I consider What We Do in the Shadows one of the best horror sitcoms ever made, I decided to step up to the challenge and wade into the carnage.

Alas, the fourth season of clueless vampires, geysers of blood, gloriously filthy dialogue, literally inhuman sex acts, death, dismemberment, and depravity has reached its end. In an attempt to hold off my sadness at having to wait a while for Season 5, I sorted out my favorite moments from the mockumentary show – based on the equally classic feature film – about a group of constantly bickering vampires sharing the same crumbling Staten Island house.

Of course,...

Warning: The following contains spoilers for Sunday’s jaw-dropper of an episode of Animal Kingdom. If you’d rather watch first, read later, treat this recap like it was a bar that’s had its liquor license suspended and go elsewhere.
