Grant (“Saltburn”), Amir El-Masry (“In Camera”) and Felicity Jones (“The Brutalist)” have joined the cast of “100 Nights Of Hero,” the adaptation of the graphic novel feminist fairytale from director Julia Jackman, alongside the already announced Nicholas Galitzine, Emma Corrin, Maika Monroe and Charli Xcx.

Johnson (“May December”) has joined Helen Simmons, Christopher Fairbank (“Lady Macbeth”), Tom Stourton (“All My Friends Hate Me”), Jeff Mirza (“Juice”), Olivia D’lima (“The Killing Kind”), Kerena Jagpal (“3 Body Problem”), Markella Kavenagh (“Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”), Clare Perkins (“Medusa Deluxe”), Josh Cowdery (“Wrath of Man”) and Varada Sethu (“Doctor Who”).

“Until 100 Nights of Hero, I hadn’t seen a project since Euphoria that so taps into what feels like the next generation of filmmakers, talent, and material,” said Johnson. “While the film appears to be a period drama, it’s not, and is modern in its sensibilities.

Set in an alternate world, ruled by the despotic Birdman, the film centers on a bet between two friends: Manfred wagers to Jerome he can seduce his wife, Cherry, in 100 nights. If he wins, he gets Jerome’s castle and all his riches, whilst Cherry will face execution. As Jerome leaves, Cherry finds herself trapped in a remote castle, torn between the beguiling charisma of her husband’s friend and her trust in her maid Hero, whose suspicions of Manfred grow daily.

Sony Pictures Television (Spt) has taken majority control of Eleventh Hour Films, the U.K.-based TV production company it first invested in back in 2018.

The deal, announced Monday, sees Eleventh Hour join Spt’s stable of majority-owned British drama outfits, alongside Left Bank Pictures (The Crown), Bad Wolf (His Dark Materials) and Eleven (Sex Education). Helion Partners advised Eleventh Hour on the transaction. Financial details were not disclosed.

Sony said the capital investment with “supercharge the next phase of growth” for the company, known for such Brit procedurals as Magpie Murders and Foyle’s War and teen spy thriller Alex Rider.

Sony Pictures Television (Spt) has revealed an increased investment in Eleventh Hour Films (Ehf), taking a majority stake in the U.K.-based production company. This move makes Ehf the fourth majority-owned, U.K.-based scripted drama company in Spt’s International Production group, joining Left Bank Pictures, Bad Wolf and Eleven.

The investment follows a period of growth for Ehf, which has secured multiple commissions and recommissions. Spt aims to bolster Ehf’s strategic growth and strengthen collaborative ties.

Ehf, founded in 2010, has produced several popular dramas, including “Magpie Murders” and its upcoming sequel “Moonflower Murders,” both based on novels by Anthony Horowitz, for PBS Masterpiece and the BBC. Sony Pictures Television (Spt) is maintaining its focus on British TV drama with another big acquisition deal.

The studio has upped its minority shareholding in Alex Rider producer Eleventh Hour Films to a majority stake. Sony had first invested in the British indie in 2018.

Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.

Eleventh Hour will sit alongside fellow UK drama producers Left Bank, Bad Wolf and Eleven in the Spt stable. Along with the shareholder changes, company founder Jill Green will move from her CEO role to become a creative executive producer. She will remain chair, and Eve Gutierrez and Paula Cuddy will become co-CEOs.

According to documents on Companies House, before today’s transaction Spt controlled 22.7% of the shares, with Green owning 43.2%, Gutierrez 14.4%, Cuddy 5.3% and Eleventh Hour Films as an entity the remaining 14.3%. Hulu’s list of new releases for May 2024 is missing a certain amount of original series firepower. In the place of a blockbuster like The Handmaid’s Tale or Shōgun, however, is some content diversity.

The first of the month sees the premiere of four-episode British series Shardlake. This mystery drama takes place during the reign of Henry VIII and features none other than Thomas Cromwell (Sean Bean) investigating a murder. Other series of note this month include the Korean drama Uncle Samsik on May 15.

Movies are bit more interesting on Hulu in May. Teen comedy Prom Dates premieres on May 3. That will be followed by the 2023 Adam Drive film Ferrari on May 24. Priyanka Chopra-Produced Doc Debuting On Prime Video India

Women of My Billion (Womb), a documentary about the forms of violence faced by women in India, will premiere exclusively on Prime Video India on May 3. Produced by Apoorva Bakshi and Monisha Thyagarajan’s Awedacious Originals in association with Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ Purple Pebble Pictures, the documentary follows protagonist Srishti Bakshi on a walking pilgrimage across India – spanning 3,800 km over 240 days – to talk to women from various backgrounds about their struggles and dreams. “Women have borne the brunt of gender bias for far too long, enduring a silent struggle against entrenched social injustices that seek to suppress their voices. With Womb, the aim is to transcend these struggles – to be a beacon of hope,” said Chopra Jonas, Producer at Purple Pebble Pictures. “Womb is not merely a depiction of pain and suffering, but a rallying cry and call for solidarity and action.

The premiere schedule for Hulu in May 2024 has been announced and can be viewed below. The streaming service has also revealed the titles that will be leaving next month.

The Hulu originals for the month include The Contestant, The Kardashians Season 5, The Killing Kind, Lainey Wilson: Bell Bottom Country, Past Lies, Prom Dates, Shardlake, and Uncle Samsik. Films like Elvis, Ferrari, The Promised Land, and Where the Crawdads Sing will also be available.

As Deadline explains, “The Killing Kind was originally a Paramount+ Original and commissioned out of the UK. It was one of several local Paramount+ dramas that launched only to be yanked from the streamer overnight earlier this year, much to the ire of viewers.” The shows were removed from Paramount+ as the streamer sought to cut costs and shift to “favoring its Hollywood-style content.”

The streamer has given the green light to The Crow Girl from Buccaneer Media, the producer that saw another of its shows, The Doll Factory, ditched by the platform last month.

Starring Eve Myles, Katherine Kelly and Dougray Scott, The Crow Girl is adapted from the Erik Axl Sund novel and begins with the gruesome discovery of a teenage boy’s body discarded in plain sight. Exclusive: Paramount+ has yanked a raft of international originals from its service along with several big-ticket acquired series.

Numerous English-language originals disappeared overnight last week, as the U.S. conglom’s strategy shift towards more Hollywood-style content and lower costs played out in real time. Other series that had been tipped for second seasons will not return.

Subscribers were left perplexed as shows vanished, and voiced bewilderment and frustration on X and elsewhere online. The removed shows have been taken off the streaming service in all territories.

Samantha Morton-starrer The Burning Girls and One Night, the Australia-set drama with Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker, have disappeared from the streamer. Likewise, Eleventh Hour Films-produced The Killing Kind, based on the book of the same name, and thriller The Serial Killer’s Wife, have been pulled.

The Doll Factory, the adaptation of the bestselling novel from Marcella producer Buccaneer, has also come down.

Line of Duty star Vicky McClure is to lead the cast of Paramount+ UK drama Insomnia.

We first revealed details of the Left Bank Pictures series, an adaptation of Sarah Pinborough’s sleep deprivation thriller novel, back in March and casting has now been revealed ahead of a planned 2024 launch. Furthermore, McClure’s production company Build Your Own Films has joined the production.

Also cast are Tom Cullen, Leanne Best, Lyndsey Marshal, Dominic Tighe, Jade Harrison, Corinna Marlowe, Robert Gilbert, Michelle Bonnard, India Fowler and Smylie Bradwell.

‘Magpie Murders’ Indie Options C.M Ewan Novel

Magpie Murders producer Eleventh Hour Films has optioned C.M. Ewan thriller The House Hunt for limited TV. Published today, The House Hunt centers on the story of an everyday young couple, Lucy and Sam, who are selling their recently renovated dream house, but one viewing turns into a nightmare and events spiral beyond their control. “Every writer dreams of finding a great partner for a TV adaptation of their work, and I knew from the first moment that Eleventh Hour Films expressed interest in The House Hunt that they were the perfect team to develop my book with all the vision and flair I could hope for,” said Ewan, who is EPing the adaptation with Paula Cuddy, Eve Gutierrez and Jill Green. No network is attached as of yet. The deal was struck by WME on behalf of the Darley Anderson Literary Agency.

This month’s installment of Deep Cuts Rising features a variety of horror movies. Some selections reflect a specific day or event in June, and others were chosen at random.

Regardless of how they came to be here, or what they’re about, these past movies can generally be considered overlooked, forgotten or unknown.
