Writer/ Director Chris Mortensen was intrigued by David Bowie's title of his 2002 album "Heathen." After Researching the term "Heathen," Chris said that's going to be the title of his next movie.
Classic horror movies like "Blood & Black Lace," "Halloween," When a Stranger Calls," When a Stranger Calls Back" and "Prom Night" and the books "scary stories to tell in the dark" helped inspire "Heathen."
Director and writer Chris Mortensen first got the idea for writing the opening of Heathen while he was waiting in conference room during jury duty back in 2008.
All of the cast and crew have or continue to work at Costco Wholesale. Sue Loubier is the only cast member not to work at a costco, however her son RJ did work at one time. Jokes behind the scenes call this the "Costco movie!"
Sue Loubier (Laurie) and RJ Loubier (John) in real life are in fact mother and son.
