Though he is a household name today, actor Jon Hamm struggled for over a dozen years to land a significant acting role, while waiting tables and waiting for his big break. That came in 2007 when he was cast on the new series Mad Men as Don Draper, a suave advertising executive and a cheating husband, whose past remained a tantalizing mystery. Thanks to Hamm's superb acting skills, Draper become one of television's most iconic characters of the 21st century.
But Hamm was not finished there. A 2008 job guest hosting Saturday Night Live revealed an entirely new side of Hamm, an unexpected comedic skill that brought him to the attention of Tina Fey (who cast him in her series 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) and Kristen Wiig, who fashioned a part for him in her smash hit film Bridesmaids. The laughs that Hamm generated in those projects brought him critical acclaim,...

Shaken, stirred, or even streamed, spy movies make up many of the most exciting, edge-of-your-seat stories the movies have to offer. From the harrowing heights of the “Mission: Impossible” franchise to the suave savvy of six James Bonds, espionage has become the thematic ground on which some of cinema’s most epic dramas, thrillers, and comedies are built. Even films primarily centered on other subject matter make frequent use of spy drama beats, proving it’s a bedrock source for onscreen entertainment.
The espionage genre is as old as filmmaking itself with silent spy movies set against the backdrop of World War I (1914’s “The German Spy Peril” is on YouTube) testing the medium’s limitations early in the 20th century. Literary works inspired many more of the spy movies to follow. Over the years, filmmakers have repeatedly adapted the works of John le Carré, Robert Ludlum, Ian Fleming, and...

The 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival, which concludes on Saturday, featured a time-traveling Rv, a disemboweling unicorn, a transracial surgery and credible testimony that extra-terrestrials exist. Here’s what rose to the top, and what failed to take flight.
Homicidal Unicorns and a Singing Matthew McConaughey Stole the Show
SXSW has distinguished itself among the top film festivals with its Headliners section, a lineup of star-driven, studio-backed, crowd-pleasing premieres that thrill SXSW audiences and help launch the films into their wide releases — from “Bridesmaids,” “21 Jump Street,” and “A Quiet Place” to “Us,” “John Wick 4” and “The Idea of You.”
This year, only one Headliner fully fit the bill: The gory horror comedy “Death of a Unicorn,” starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega, had the audience laughing, screaming and cheering along with its story of a pair of homicidal fantasy creatures dispatching a über-wealthy family in the Canadian wilderness.

Seis nuevos episodios se estrenan este abril. © Netflix
El reparto de esta nueva temporada está formado por Michele Austin (Hard Truths), Ben Bailey Smith (David Brent: Life on the Road), Asim Chaudhry (People Just Do Nothing), Josh Finan (Say Nothing), James Nelson-Joyce (The Outlaws), Will Poulter (Guardianes de la galaxia Vol. 3...

The film has the following synopsis: In The Housemaid, Millie (Sydney Sweeney) is a struggling young woman who is relieved to get a fresh start as a housemaid to Nina (Amanda Seyfried) and Andrew (Brandon Sklenar), an upscale, wealthy couple. Nearly two years have passed since Netflix debuted a new season of Black Mirror, even if it feels like much longer. The streamer has finally unveiled a trailer and new images for the upcoming seventh season, along with announcing an April 10, 2025 premiere date.
“You can expect a mix of genres and styles,” stated series creator Charlie Brooker during the 2024 Geeked Week festival. “We’ve got six episodes this time, and two of them are basically feature-length. Some of them are deeply unpleasant, some are quite funny, and some are emotional.”
Among them is the much-anticipated sequel to one of Black Mirror‘s most popular, critically acclaimed episodes, season four’s “USS Callister.” The sequel marks the first time Brooker has ever revisited any of the previous six seasons’ episodes.

Despite being on air for over a decade, Black Mirror continues to be one of TV's most unpredictable and highly anticipated series. Now with Season 7 on the horizon, fans are once again ready to be thrown into a world that eerily parallels our own. Just to prove that the show is ready to grab the attention once again, ahead of the trailer release, the official Black Mirror page delivered fans a mysterious binary code as just one of a series of upcoming teases of what is to come.
The official Black Mirror page has been quite active over the past week, dropping pictures and sneak peeks to keep viewers enthusiastic, but the most recent update offers a binary code that, when decoded, reads "You Are Not Ready," teasing a major update for viewers moving forward. The new season of Black Mirror is said to be a return — in more ways than one. In the newly released trailer for Season 7, it looks like more than a few characters and episodes will be revisited, including the now iconic ''USS Callister" episode from Season 4. And according to series creator Charlie Brooker, this new batch of episodes will also be a return to form for fans of the darkly satirical and at-times harrowing anthology series.
Calling the forthcoming season "a little bit Og Black Mirror," Brooker noted that Season 7 — which is slated to hit Netflix on April 10, 2025, goes "back to basics in many ways. They're all sci-fi stories," a welcome change after the past few seasons have focused more on the horror aspect than anything. "There's definitely some horrifying things that occur," he added, "but maybe not in an overt horror-movie way. There's definitely some disturbing content in it.

A seventh season of the anthology series Black Mirror will be making its way to the Netflix streaming service this year, and it has been previously revealed that Black Mirror season 7 will consist of six episodes, one of which will be a sequel to the popular season 4 episode USS Callister. The streamer has now revealed new images from the season, along with a trailer. It has also been announced that the new episodes will premiere on April 10.
Created and written by Charlie Brooker, Black Mirror is an anthology series that taps into our collective unease with the modern world, with each stand-alone episode a sharp, suspenseful tale exploring themes of contemporary techno-paranoia leading to an unforgettable – and sometimes unsettling – conclusion. Without questioning it, technology has transformed all aspects of our lives; in every home; on every desk; in every palm – a plasma screen; a monitor; a Smartphone – a Black Mirror...

Because the world does not feel dystopian enough, “Black Mirror” is finally releasing its Season 7 premiere date. The sci-fi anthology from Charlie Brooker will return on April 10 with six new episodes.
This new season will contain a previously announced followup to the Emmy-winning “USS Callister” starring Cristin Milioti. Fittingly, the trailer for this new season starts with Milioti’s Lieutenant Cole gasping as an unseen voice says “We’d like to welcome you back.”
The trailer then cycles between clips of wild scenarios that are never fully explained. One minute, a man is putting on a Batman mask. The next, Issa Rae is being transported into a black-and-white world filled with AI people. Still the next, Rashida Jones collapses like a powered off robot while pitching cereal in front of a class of children. You know, classic “Black Mirror” stuff.

Paul Feig shut down rumors that Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively are uncomfortable promoting “Another Simple Favor” together after a YouTuber shared a photo of the pair at SXSW.
In a post on X, Melanie King wrote that Lively was “terrified to walk the carpet” and Kendrick “never wants to work with [Lively] again.”
“Um… you’re wrong,” Feig replied.
It’s unclear why King sparked the rumor in the first place, though Lively’s bitter public feud with “It Ends With Us” might have given her some ideas. Kenrick and Lively are both at the film festival to promote “Another Simple Favor” after previously collaborating with Feig on “A Simple Favor.”

Fresh off the premiere of Another Simple Favor, the sequel to 2018’s A Simple Favor, filmmaker Paul Feig says he’d like there to be a sequel to another one of his movies, 2024’s Jackpot!. While it was critically panned, Feig said he "loved" the Prime Video film that starred Awkwafina, John Cena, and Simu Liu.
The action comedy Jackpot!takes place in the near future during a time in which a “Grand Lottery” has been established in California, but there’s a catch - kill the winner before sundown to legally claim their multi-billion dollar prize. Feig directed the film from a script by Rob Yescombe.

Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively’s ‘Another Simple Favor’ ends up with mixed reviews (Photo Credit – YouTube)
Blake Lively has resurfaced on the red carpet, her luminous presence heralding the South by Southwest premiere of the keenly anticipated sequel Another Simple Favor, slated to grace Amazon Prime Video screens soon. Amidst a vortex of lawsuits, relentless legal filings, and a PR skirmish with her husband Ryan Reynolds against the multihyphenate It Ends With Us filmmaker Justin Baldoni, Lively’s career finds itself at a precarious juncture.
To enunciate it plainly, the upcoming black comedy’s successor bears a predisposition to propel Lively’s trajectory more than ever, a year after her liaisons with Baldoni precipitated an unforeseen fallout.
Co-starring Anna Kendrick, Another Simple Favor has transpired into its initial screenings, inciting a critical reaction which is neither here nor there. On Rotten Tomatoes, the thriller languishes at a tepid 72%, with 18 critics having ventured their verdicts.

Paul Feig does not appear to be exaggerating when he talks about the pains of making Another Simple Favor.
The sequel-averse filmmaker has discussed his apprehensions before, noting after Friday’s South by Southwest world premiere that he feared disappointing fans of the first movie — an absolutely bonkers comedy thriller that proved to be a real showpiece for Anna Kendrick, Blake Lively and their undeniable onscreen chemistry.
He doubled down on his reservations during a conversation at the Austin Convention Center on Saturday afternoon. “We worked this script forever,” Feig said. “I tried to kill that project many times. It was terrifying.”
It turns out Feig and producing partner Laura Fischer even 86’d an approved version of the film when Feig started having apprehensions.
“We threw out a whole script that was greenlit,” he explained. “I was reading the response from people who were so excited for a sequel, and I thought,...

It's been nearly seven years, but director Paul Feig is back with his first-ever sequel in the form of "Another Simple Favor." This is the follow-up to the filmmaker's decadent, complex mystery thriller "A Simple Favor," which was released theatrically in 2018. Headlined by Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, it was a big hit in its day. Now, the folks at Amazon have ponied up the dough to bring the gang back for a sequel, which will premiere directly on Prime Video.
Feig, who is best known as the director of comedies like "Bridesmaids" and "Spy," had some reservations about making a sequel to what is arguably his most serious movie to date. Paul Feig was under a lot of pressure before the release of “Bridesmaids” in 2011 — and it was more than just his own career on the line.
Speaking on a panel at SXSW the night after the premiere of his new film “Another Simple Favor,” he shared that in the lead-up to the release of “Bridesmaids,” he was told his success or failure could have a significant impact on how women’s ideas would be treated in the industry moving forward. Though Feig was the director, the film was otherwise led by women: Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo wrote the screenplay and appeared in it alongside Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ellie Kemper and Melissa McCarthy.

The first A Simple Favormovie was a pleasant surprise when it was released in theaters back in the fall of 2018. Paul Feig was in need of a hit after the whole Ghostbusters debacle, and adaptations of novels about missing white women were really trendy for a time. Granted, Darcey Bell's novel wasn't very good, but Feig's adaptation had a certain amount of snark to it. Yes, it remained mostly loyal to the novel, but Feig's signature sense of humor, and the undeniable dynamic chemistry between stars Anna Kendrick and Blake Livelywere just too hard to ignore. It makes sense that there's a sequel, but it is still pretty weird that this is Feig's first sequel. Especially after earning so much acclaim for movies like Bridesmaids and Spy.

Like a cocktail made of ingredients that aren’t meant to go together, but that stimulate your taste buds in a just sweet-and-tart, gin-and-blood-orange enough way that you keep sipping it, “A Simple Favor” was a movie powered by its singular flavor. It started off as a bad-moms soap opera, with Anna Kendrick’s polite, perky, less-innocent-than-she-seemed Stephanie, a widowed mother who ran her own homemaking vlog, getting drawn into the web of Emily, a fellow grade-school parent who was about as maternal as Cruella de Vil, and who was played by Blake Lively in a performance of supremely entertaining nastiness.
As these two bonded over martinis and shared secrets (including the revelation that one of them was a “brother fucker” — an example of how blithe the film was about its own perversity), “A Simple Favor” morphed into a murderous noir. Yet even as the twists kept coming, the thriller...

Paul Feig returns to SXSW for the third time Friday night. Following his previous premieres of “Bridesmaids” and “Spy” at the festival, the director will open this year’s SXSW at the Paramount Theater in Austin with “Another Simple Favor,” the sequel to his 2018 hit “Simple Favor.”
Anna Kendrick returns as Stephanie Smothers with Blake Lively as Emily Nelson. Murderous mayhem ensues when Stephanie travels to Capri, Italy, for Emily’s extravagant wedding to an Italian businessman (Michele Morrone). “I always remembered how much I loved working with Anna and Blake, and how creative they both are, and how collaborative they both are,” Feig told me Thursday shortly after he landed in Austin. “It was really like old home week. We all challenge each other with new things and some outrageous things to do and we had a blast. It was like putting on a pair of comfortable slippers.”

Bruce Willis' Die Hard remains one of the greatest action films of all time, inspiring numerous films to capture its magic but to no avail. Now, Simon West, the director behind Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, returns to put a comedic spin on the traditional action formula with Bride Hard, an action comedy film starring Rebel Wilson and Justin Hartley.
In Bride Hard, Rebel Wilson plays Sam, a maid of honor for her childhood best friend who is unaware she is a secret agent. When mercenaries crash the wedding and take the wealthy guests hostage, it is up to Sam to rescue them and show the intruders the consequences of ruining the most important day of her best friend's life. While the film has been in development for a while, it has seen a few delays due to the SAG-AFTRA strike and other production setbacks, but Bride Hard finally has a confirmed release date,...

Thrillers are one of the most beloved genres in film and make great movies to stream at home on Netflix. With often complex narratives and twists abound, thrillers keep viewers at the edge of their seats throughout the entire runtime. The genre comes in all shapes and sizes, whether sci-fi, horror, spy, historical, romance, and so much more. Thrillers lean heavily into the fears of their viewers as they continually hope that everything will turn out fine in the end.
Netflix has proven to be one of the best places to find thrillers on streaming. The platform usually has a wide variety of films to choose from. The impressive catalog features plenty of notable thriller movies across many different subgenres. Thrills aren't just for the Autumn spooky season. So, it's a perfect time to stop scrolling and tune in to movies like Carry-Onor Rebel Ridge.

We are well past the point of Peak TV — the era named by FX President John Landgraf about just how many television shows and channels seem to exist now — where we used to only have a handful of network options and a smattering of cable choices. Now, we have hundreds upon hundreds of shows each year, yet so few shows break through the noise unless you happen to notice that one of them has been canceled despite never having had the name recognition of something like "The Big Bang Theory" or "Game of Thrones." What's more, some shows can have a noticeable impact at the moment, but they don't seem to resonate once they're off the air. Those two aforementioned titles are among the most familiar to the American masses despite not having aired new episodes for years. It helps that they've each had spin-offs, and live on via reruns in some cases,...

Director Paul Feig and his wife, Laurie, have donated $300,000 to three LGBTQ youth organizations: The Trevor Project, Trans Lifeline, and It Gets Better.
Feig, known for films like Bridesmaids and A Simple Favor, says he can’t stay silent as LGBTQ rights, especially for transgender people, are being taken away.
“In recent weeks we have witnessed the dismantling of crucial protections for the health and safety of the LGBTQ+ community and, particularly, the transgender community,” Feig said. “I can’t sit idly by and watch as my friends, colleagues and the LGBTQ+ community as a whole — our fellow citizens — are stripped of their rights.”
The donations come after reports that the Trump administration is removing transgender troops from the U.S. military and erasing mentions of trans people from government websites and policies.

Bridesmaids star Chris O’Dowd has said that he wishes Graham Linehan was writing more after The It Crowd creator claimed he was canceled for his transgender views.
O’Dowd shot to fame in The It Crowd and told The Times of London that he still gets a lot of love for the comedy, which was broadcast in the UK on Channel 4 between 2006 and 2013.
The Irish actor said he remains in contact with Linehan and wishes the writer had not been shunned by the industry after expressing gender-critical beliefs.
“I wish he was writing more, and I wish he was in the industry more. I think he’s the best comedy writer I’ve worked with,” O’Dowd said.

Judd Apatow, who dominated the big screen for more than a decade with comedy hits like “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” “Superbad,” “Step Brothers” and “Bridesmaids,” has weighed in on R-rated comedy movies vanishing from theaters.

Once there’s another comedy hit, “suddenly everyone wants to do it again,” Apatow said. “These things kind of swing back and forth. Agreeing with his frequent comedy collaborator Seth Rogen, Apatow said he does not believe comedy is harder than it used to be due to political correctness.

In a lot of ways, the '90s was a true golden age for Disney. From absolutely monster animated hits like "The Lion King" to the true Christmas classic that is "The Muppet Christmas Carol," it was a rich time for the Mouse House. Yet, not everything can be a winner out of the gate. Such was the case with "Heavyweights." Released in 1995, the live-action comedy about kids at a fat camp whose summer is upended by a weight loss guru simply didn't connect with audiences in its day.
As has often been the case throughout Disney's history, animation has been the studio's bread and butter. That was no different in the '90s, as hits like "Aladdin" and "Beauty and the Beast" took center stage.

The list of Saturday Night Live’s all-time greatest cast members doesn’t exactly match up with the roster of comedians who’ve appeared in the most episodes. More than half of the 10 longest-tenured SNL comics — Kenan Thompson, Colin Jost, Michael Che, Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong and Aidy Bryant all lasted double-digit seasons — appeared in the 2020s.
This is new. This is weird. Why don’t cast members want to leave the show anymore?
Chevy Chase couldn’t wait to go. After one year of SNL success, he was hungry to try his hand at the movies. Bill Murray, John Belushi and Eddie Murphy jumped ship after four seasons. No one wanted Tina Fey to leave, say James Andrew Miller and Tom Shales in their book Live From New York, “but as the saying goes, It Was Time.”
Will it ever be time for Thompson, now hanging out for 22 seasons and counting?...
