Sonic games have had many failures, and this game is up with Sonic The Hedgehog (2006).
Game reuses animations from the original game. A whole lot to be calling this the "ultimate" version.
Game is unbelievably hard at points and game is unbelievably easy at points.
Not enough content to keep a player coming back to the game aside from collecting all the red rings and getting the best ranks on acts.
Reused story from most sonic games. Eggman is preparing to harm species and destroy the world and Sonic has to stop him. This game honestly might have to be one of the worst games I have ever played. The only good things about it are the colorful and vibrant design.

Well I should say this is kind of a great game finally a good sonic game.
Other than I hopefully the new sonic game coming out in 2022 is better.
Also Happy 30th Birthday Sonic.

After the disappointment of Sonic Forces, Sonic Colors Ultimate brings fans back to 2010 for a fun ride at the Wisps Amusement Park! Despite the rough pre-release transition, this game is better and more fun to control than Sonic's weight after eating too much chili dogs during control testing in Forces.
The nickname for Eggman called Baldy McNoseHair is so funny that I called the evil doctor just that in my review of Forces! However, he still makes good levels and decent bosses.
The game still has some problems: Sonic's other friends are absent, some of the humor can be immature, and did they really have to put Metal races in them? Why not make a boss fight for Metal instead? That would've been better.
The way to get the Chaos Emeralds is great though. No poorly controlled mini game for me. Just a great 2D mini game.
If you wanna support Sonic's 3D history, buy this game and when you type in your review, tell Sega that you want the old Sonic 3D games on your modern console.

Sonic Colors by every metric was already a mediocre game that shares many design aspects with Sonic Forces. It pads itself out terribly with 5 acts per area, even more than Sonic 1. And each act progressively gets worse and worse in quality, some straight-up copy/pasting level geometry from previous acts in the same zone or being straight-up straight-lines, for the worst of it. Don't get me started on the boring as hell auto-scrolling spring levels. Often later acts are made up largely of blocky, boring 2D level design that hold no relevance to the themes of the stage. Top all of this off with a story that pre-schoolers couldn't find funny and dialogue written by people who had 0 experience with the entire Sonic franchise and you have an amazing example of the most obsolete, mundane "3D" Sonic game that had existed up to the point of 2010, where characters feel out-of-character and the gameplay loop is done more than marginally better elsewhere, unimpeded by an infantile wisp gimmick during boost gameplay stages, like in Unleashed, Generations, or Rush.
Now take everything I just said which applies to the original Wii version of Sonic Colors and make it completely dysfunctional at launch, has near-epilepsy inducing visual bugs, broken gameplay, stuttering pre-rendered cutscenes, audio bugs, ugly graphics in general compared to the original standard definition release, and BOOM BABY, you have got yourself a recipe for the most hilariously disastrous port just about ever. The leniency this release has gotten by Sonic fans and critics alike is a telling sign of just how standard this kind of trash is for the modern game industry, and it's a joke and a half that this game's got a higher score than Sonic 06 or Black Knight.

I have sonic colors on wii but the ultimate is better.
Did you know
- TriviaThe original 2010 release of the game for the Nintendo Wii and DS systems, was intended as a single experience split between 2 systems. You could play each half as its own game, but more dedicated fans could play both versions for nearly twice as many levels, an expanded story, and all around a more "complete" game experience. This makes the 2021 remaster "Sonic Colors: Ultimate" excluding all of the DS content a strange decision, especially considering its "Ultimate" sub-title, as it's essentially half of the original release.
