Among the multiple panels taking place at the Santiago Film Festival’s (Sanfic) industry space, Santiago Industria, is one on the Dominican Republic, which boasts two key incentives that have powered up local and international productions in the Caribbean nation.
Sanfic Industria director Gabriela Sandoval will moderate the Aug. 20 panel made up of Fernando Santos, the Dominican producer behind such hit co-productions as “Cocote” and “Sugar Island,” Chilean director Matias Bize and Marìa Victoria Hernández, second secretary and head of communications at the Dominican Republic’s embassy in Chile.
Bize, who directed “Once a Week” (“En la piel”) a Dominican version of his Chilean drama “In Bed” (“En la cama”), is planning to return to the Dominican Republic next year with a new project, “La Colmena” (“The Beehive”), a co-production with Dominican company Mocano Films, which centers on a man who is struggling to coax finer honey out of his beehives.
