To date, 5 Hulks have been seen under the MCU umbrella. Three are green: Bruce Banner’s (Mark Ruffalo) Hulk, Jennifer Walters’ (Tatiana Maslany) She-Hulk, and Skaar (Wil Deusner), seen in the last episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Happy Hogan’s (Jon Favreau) becomes Purple Hulk in the What If...? episode, "What If... Happy Hogan Saved Christmas," (because nothing's more festive than Grimace Hulk), and now President Ross’ (Harrison Ford) Red Hulk. A casual fan who only knows Hulk as green from his Lou Ferrigno days forward might suspect the different colors are a creative choice for aesthetics, but there is precedent. If we go by the comics, there are, in fact, 8 more colors that have yet to appear in the MCU.

It isn't long now until the Devil of Hell's Kitchen returns to screens. Matt Murdock's war on crime continues in the heavily-anticipated Daredevil: Born Again, which premieres on Disney Plus this March. A revival of the Netflix series that debuted a decade ago, the Marvel Studios production brings back the majority of the cast for a new adventure, catching us up with their respective characters for the first time in around six years.
Fans are curious about whether the Disney Plus show will have the same levels of maturity and violence as its Netflix predecessor, and the trailer certainly suggests that it will - as have the early social media reactions, which are full of praise for the hard-hitting drama. And with that, the next step if to simply await its arrival, for Matt Murdock's adventures will begin all over again very, very soon.

Spider-Man has been one of the biggest superhero names for decades, and his newest Disney+ series shows his heroic start at the beginning of high school. The animated series has him facing some of his most iconic villains from the comic books and teaming up with other Marvel heroes. It's different from what viewers have seen of Spider-Man in the MCU, but it shows a Peter Parker who's young enough for these events to maybe have taken place before the MCU films. However, there is a solid answer to whether or not Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man takes place in the MCU.

It's that time of year again when we all start to enjoy revisiting some of our favourite Christmas movies, whether it's Die Hard (let's not get into that debate right now...), Elf, The Nightmare Before Christmas, or even Love Actually.
However, for superhero fans, there really aren't that many options. It's rare to see any comic book adaptation set during a specific point in time as, like the comics themselves, avoiding that ensures they have a timeless feel. However, there are a handful of examples we think finally deserve to be recognised as Christmas classics in their own right!
Some might be a little more obvious to you than others, but there are a few here that we think finally deserve to be recognised among the greats mentioned above. While we list them here in no particular order, rest assured they all have that much-needed holiday feel.

One of the original Avengers will return to the MCU later this month, but perhaps not in the way you’re expecting (or hoping for). It seems that Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth, will reportedly reprise the beloved Marvel character in the upcoming third and final season of the animated anthology series, What If...?, which is due to debut on Disney+ on December 22, 2024.
According to The Direct, Marvel Studios has now revealed the cast list for What If...? Season 3, and Chris Hemsworth is on the list, meaning we will finally see more from the actor as Thor following the release of the largely panned Thor: Love and Thunder back in 2022.
Hemsworth has provided the voice of Thor in What If...? several times before, and while details of which episode he will feature in this time around remain under wraps, his Thor co-stars Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki, Tessa Thompson, who stars as Valkyrie,...

There was so much to love about the '90s "X-Men" animated series that creating a revival show in 2024 seemed like a risky maneuver. But Disney's legacy sequel series, "X-Men '97," debuted to great reviews, providing '90s kids everywhere with a straight shot of animated nostalgia. Of course, the 2024 version of the show was a lot cleaner than the Og series, which originally ran from 1992 to 1997 on Fox Kids. "X-Men" debuted during a time when hand-drawn animation done under a tight budget and often shipped overseas for coloring gave all our favorite cartoons a charmingly janky aesthetic. That same feel was missing from the revival show, but that was really the only thing that felt different.
To make sure this particular nostalgia-fest hit properly, Disney and Marvel ensured they did everything they could to make "X-Men '97" feel as close to the original series as possible. The show was...

Ultron already secretly returned to action in 2019, so his upcoming MCU reprisal in Marvel Television's Vision series will need to be even better. James Spader originally voiced tyrannical artificial intelligence Ultron in 2015's eponymous Avengers: Age of Ultron, but Spader hasn't been heard since. MCU veteran Ross Marquand voiced versions of the robot entity in What If...? and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but James Spader has now been confirmed to be returning as Ultron, which is very exciting for the MCU.
Having only made one main appearance in the MCU, Ultron is widely regarded as one of the franchise's most wasted villains. Despite Spader delivering a fantastic voice performance, Ultron was far removed from his Marvel Comics counterpart, and unused concept art from Avengers: Age of Ultron even showcased a much more terrifying and formidable version of the villain that didn't make it into the movie.

One of the breakout characters in the MCU timeline was Kathryn Hahn's performance as the Marvel villainess. The great reception to Agatha led Marvel Television to bring the character back, but this time in her own spinoff series, Agatha All Along.
The Phase 5 TV show focuses on Agatha forming her own coven as she seeks to reclaim her power after the WandaVision ending. Agatha All Along will also be another opportunity for the MCU to explore the more supernatural corner of the franchise. Joss Whedon's large-scale action picture "Avengers: Age of Ultron" was released in theaters in the spring of 2015, and it featured a gaggle of Marvel superheroes teaming up to fight the eponymous evil super-robot. Ultron (voiced by James Spader) was an artificial intelligence accidentally created by Iron Man while he was constructing a global, spacebound security system intended to make superhero-ing easier. Upon achieving consciousness, Ultron spends about two minutes on the internet and instantly decided that humanity needed to be wiped out, shunting its own consciousness into a series of robot bodies and going about its wicked business. The Avengers, naturally, smash up all the Ultron bots.
Ultron is destroyed at the end of that film and has only shown up in additional Marvel Cinematic Universe entries in smaller roles since then, including the animated TV show "What If...?" However, Spader will reportedly reprise Ultron for the upcoming "WandaVision...

A social media post shows the MCU Avengers animated Disney's classic 2D style, sparking nostalgia. The MCU rarely enters G-rated family-friendly territory, but the animated Avengers could be magical. Marvel Studios has delved into animation, making a Disney-fied MCU project possible.
A social media post has rendered a handful of the McU's Avengers in a classic Disney 2D animation style, and it looks more perfect than it has any right to be. Marvel Studios is now a subsidiary of Disney, which also owns the Star Wars franchise, though live-action MCU movies are still a far cry from the classic Disney offerings that were typically rendered in a distinctive 2D art style. Given the vast majority of the McU's productions are PG-13, the franchise rarely ventures into the universally family-friendly territory typified by Disney's animated movies.

Although the decade hasn't even reached its halfway point, the world of animated television has already been graced with a plethora of wonderful shows in the past four years. For the first time in years, animated shows have truly broken barriers and expanded their audiences, keeping old fans of the medium enthralled while inviting previously skeptical viewers into the party.
Still, the overabundance of streaming services has created a culture of series that are hard to siphon through in search of true gems. Luckily, there remains a clear hierarchy in quality that allows a select few shows to tower above the rest. While individual opinions are completely valid, the following shows seem to be highlights for many fans, with shows ranging from massively popular to underrated gems.

Shang-Chi's next MCU appearance is in Marvel Zombies, a spinoff animted series, shifting focus away from his original film. Simu Liu has confirmed a sequel is in development, but Marvel Studios has not officially announced Shang-Chi 2. Shang-Chi's future in the MCU remains uncertain despite his initial success, leaving fans wanting more.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings introduced a new beloved hero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the treatment of his character ever since has been frustrating and disappointing. Canadian actor Simu Liu was immediately thrust into stardom after being cast in the role, and following the ending of Shang-Chi, audiences have waited patiently to see how this character is integrated into the Avengers. Three years have passed since Shang-Chi met Captain Marvel, and no concrete news of a sequel has yet been announced. The return of Shang-Chi has finally been confirmed, although in a slightly underwhelming way.

A new theory suggests that T'Challa's Black Panther could be recast in Avengers: Secret Wars. T'Challa has a major role in Marvel Comics' 2015 Secret Wars event, so it would be great to bring him back for Avengers: Secret Wars. Casting Michael B. Jordan as T'Challa would be a great way to pay homage to Chadwick Boseman's portrayal, while utilizing the talented actor much better than his previous one-and-done villain role.
Marvel Studios has the perfect opportunity to recast T'Challa's Black Panther in Avengers: Secret Wars, according to a new MCU theory. After Chadwick Boseman's tragic passing in 2020, questions emerged about whether Marvel Studios would recast T'Challa in the MCU or not. Boseman portrayed T'Challa, the King of Wakanda and the Black Panther, in four feature films, and also made posthumous appearances in 2022's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and the animated What If...? series, so his passing sent shockwaves through the franchise.

The Scarlet Witch's image needs fixing, and a solo movie could provide the time and focus necessary for her redemption arc. Agatha All Along may not be the best place for Wanda to return to life due to other plot focuses.

Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch properly debuted in the MCU in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron. Since then, the character has gone through quite a few transformations, going from an Avengers villain to a member of the team to a villain yet again. X-Men '97 has finally tapped a new writer who will take over as the showrunner for season 3, which is currently in development.
Before the series premiered, the original head writer Beau DeMayo was notably fired by Marvel Studios after working for two seasons. Up to this day, it is still unknown why he was let go from the position.
Since then, fans have been curious to find out which new writer Marvel will hire to take over the daunting task of continuing the show's acclaimed run in its upcoming seasons.

Marvel Studios may be bringing What If...? to an end after the upcoming season 3, according to Brad Winderbaum's recent comments. I'm disappointed What If...? may be ending after only three seasons, as there is a lot of untapped potential with the animated series. Other MCU projects have done a better job at showing the variety of the multiverse, but What If...? could still continue in the McU's future.
I'm confused about why Marvel Studios would want to cancel its best multiverse-spanning project so soon, as What If...? seems to be ending after its upcoming third season. After Loki season 1 burst open the Sacred Timeline, Marvel Animation's What If...? was able to explore a huge variety of alternate worlds and variant characters, putting twists on some iconic stories from the history of the MCU. While this concept may have allowed What If...? to continue indefinitely, recent news from Marvel Studios...

Marvel Studios' What If...? is expected to end after its upcoming third season. What If...? is one of the McU's most popular projects, so its cancelation is curious. What If...? may be ending with the rest of the McU's multiverse stories following Avengers: Secret Wars.
Marvel Studios will be bringing its animated What If...? series to an end after its upcoming third season. Set adjacent to the main timeline of the MCU, and releasing after the destruction of the Sacred Timeline in Loki season 1, What If...? provided the perfect opportunity for alternate stories to be told and variant characters to be introduced to the MCU. Two seasons of What If...? have currently released on Disney+, but despite the series' huge popularity, What If...? season 3 is expected to be the last.

Marvel's animated What If...? series has completed many alternate realities in the MCU, from T'Challa becoming Star-Lord to the Avengers assembling in 1602. Its latest project, however, will contemplate perhaps its most expansive question yet - what if you were the hero of the MCU? Marvel Studios and Ilm Immersive just unveiled the first-ever Disney+ interactive original, What If? An Immersive Story, which places fans in the driver's seat for an hour-long multiversal adventure to save all of reality with help from The Watcher and the Sorcerer Supreme Wong. It's set to release on May 30 as a free app for a limited time exclusively on the Apple Vision Pro.

Alternate realities and hypothetical timelines are part of the comics industry's bread and butter. They've been around since the earliest days of the genre, especially in superhero comics at DC and Marvel. Both companies feature a "prime" universe, with the main version of the characters everyone knows and loves. However, these primary universes exist in a multiverse, with thousands of possible variations. Often times, this leads to certain other universes, like DC's Earth-2 and Marvel's Ultimate Universe getting the spotlight. Sometimes, however, alternate realities will get a brief, but memorable, spotlight.
Marvel's What If comics explored this exact concept. They took a pivotal moment in a character's story and changed things slightly, and explored this new reality. These were brief, single issue stories that were tons of fun and pretty popular. It is therefore no surprise that Marvel eventually adapted them with the What If...? Disney+ animated series, which instead...

Following X-Men '97's season 1 finale, What If...? season 3 is likely up next from Marvel Animation. Marvel Zombies updates have been few and far between, but Marvel Studios executive Brad Winderbaum has shared new Eyes of Wakanda and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man details.
The latter was unveiled during the San Diego Comic-Con in 2022, while news of the Black Panther spin-off came our way last December.
We've previously heard that the animated series will follow brave warriors tasked to travel the world retrieving dangerous Vibranium artefacts throughout Wakandan history. Thanks to ComicBook.com (via Toonado.com), we now have some specifics.
"Eyes of Wakanda is an MCU show," Winderbaum confirmed. "This is the history of Wakanda as told through the War Dogs, and it is some of the best animation we've ever done. Todd Harris is the creator of that one. That's just such a cool show."

Different versions of Captain America have been played by four actors in Marvel Studios' live-action and animated projects. Chris Evans, Wyatt Russell, and Anthony Mackie have all portrayed Captain America in the McU's live-action storylines. Marvel Studios has drastically reduced its output since Bob Iger returned as Disney CEO, with the hope being to get back to quality over quantity. That's led to fewer TV shows on Disney+, but at least two more Marvel Animation titles will reportedly be released this year.

Marvel could be creating a shared animated universe with projects like X-Men '97 and potentially Spider-Man '98. Spider-Man '98 could showcase an adult Peter Parker story that fans have been craving, separate from Holland's MCU version.
Spider-Man has been handled well by the Marvel Cinematic Universe; however, Marvel now has the chance to finally tell the Peter Parker story the MCU has yet to deliver. Tom Holland's Spider-Man trilogy stands among some of the McU's best movies. 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, Holland's latest turn as Peter Parker, was an unprecedented event. Disney+'s animated What If...? series recently concluded its second season, and if ratings are any indication, the show continues to resonate with fans of the MCU. With this in mind, the television series could benefit from drawing inspiration from the source material, Marvel's long-running comic that introduced many into the vast comic book multiverse. Introduced in 1977, the book has enjoyed a whopping nine volumes (as well as several specials) over the years and featured a few concepts that have already crossed over into the MCU, such as the idea of an intelligent Hulk and Jane Foster wielding the hammer of Thor.
With the onscreen success of the multiverse, Marvel's What If...? stories stand in the unique position of still having plenty of ideas that could spark renewed interest in the MCU, particularly in light of diminishing interest (and returns) in more recent phases. What If...? Season 2 embraced the McU's ability to hop between genres, beyond the standard superhero fare usually associated with the franchise. This freedom to experiment with tone was crucial to the McU's initial success and has been somewhat lacking in Phase 4 and Phase 5. By embracing a more varied tonal output similar to What If...?'s experimental approach to style and tone, the MCU could keep audiences interested.
What If...? is one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most ambitious projects. It's quietly similar to one of the underlining strengths of the MCU in that regard, which has always been at its best when it feels capable of telling unique stories with disparate characters within a grander collective universe.
