The 56th NAACP Image Awards, which honor the year’s best in Black achievement and excellence, wrapped up Saturday night by naming Keke Palmer its Entertainer of the Year, the group’s marquee award.

Deon Cole emceed the ceremony at the Pasadena Civic Center, where honorary awards were given to Kamala Harris, who received the Chairman’s Award; BET Media Group, which received the Founders Award; and Dave Chappelle, who received the President’s Award and gave an impassioned speech, saying he was “invigorated” in receiving what he called the most important award he had ever received.

Palmer, the multihyphenate actor-podcaster-host who won an Image Award earlier this week for hosting Password, beat out a loaded group for the Entertainer of the Year honor, winning over Cynthia Erivo, Kendrick Lamar, Kevin Hart and Shannon Sharpe.

The NAACP Image Awards inaugurated night one of its pre-awards show, announcing the first round of winners in 31 non-televised award categories. The show aired exclusively on NAACP Image Awards YouTube Channel. The 56th NAACP Image Awards will air live on February 22 on BET and CBS.

Winners for the pre-awards show included Taraji P. Henson and Samuel L. Jackson, who won for outstanding supporting actress and supporting actor in a Limited TV for Peacock’s “Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist.”

Henson also was another award in the category of Outstanding Literary Work – Children for writing “You Can Be a Good Friend (No Matter What!): A Lil Tj Book.”

The company has hired former NBCU unscripted chief Jenny Groom and promoted Ryan O’Dowd and Krystal Whitney.

Groom, who was EVP Entertainment Unscripted Content at NBCUniversal, left the company in 2022 and has been consulting for companies including Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine and Kevin Hart’s Hartbeat Productions.

She now joins the commercial arm of the British public broadcaster as EVP Unscripted Development.

Groom, who greenlighted series including The Traitors and Love Island during her time at NBCU, previously oversaw all unscripted competition formats across NBC, Peacock, Bravo, E! and USA Network. Ahead of her appearance, Robin Roberts teased Michael about GMA’s special guest, referring to Keke as Michael’s “girl.”

Upon Keke’s arrival at the GMA studio, the former co-stars shared a warm greeting and embraced.

“What’s up, redhead?” Michael said, as Keke called him, “My guy.”

Robin also embraced the former ABC star and shared some kind words with her as she praised her success.

The NAACP announced nominees in 91 categories in the fields of film, television and streaming, recording, documentary, writing, directing, literary, podcast, stunts and costume design, makeup and hairstyling.

NBC will air a special edition of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” after a November edition of “Sunday Night Football” next month.

“The Tonight Show” will broadcast on NBC after the Nov. 17 matchup between the New York Jets and the Indianapolis Colts, with local news airing in between the conclusion of “SNF” and the start of “The Tonight Show.”

The special edition of the late night show will feature a star-studded lineup of guests, including Jon Hamm, Lindsay Lohan and Pharrell Williams.

While Fallon’s “Tonight Show” has previously aired special episodes on Sundays, including in 2019 when it similarly aired five broadcasts after “Sunday Night Football” games, Fallon hasn’t hosted the show on a Sunday recently.

Per Variety, the series premiere experienced a 220% viewership spike after three days on multiple platforms. The first broadcast on ABC on Sept. 17 drew an average of 3.6 million viewers, according to Nielsen's Live + Same Day data. The last of TV’s big five-original-nights-a-week late-night show is giving up 24 hours out of its schedule.

NBC will move “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” to four nights a week, the latest in a series of moves across the late-night daypart aimed at shoring up the economics of the programs as audiences move away from watching TV in linear fashion. Like its late-night rivals, “Tonight” will air in repeats on Fridays.

CBS’ “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” are already on a four-originals-per-week schedule.

NBC has been examining costs in late-night in recent months. Earlier this year, the network decided to eliminate the house band from Meyers’ 12:35 a.m. hour, a move that recently went into effect. But all of the networks have tested similar maneuvers in recent years.

Peacock has given a straight-to-series order to The ‘Burbs, a new series adaptation of the 1989 film of the same name.

In the film, the residents of a suburban neighborhood suspect their new neighbors are ritualistic murderers. Produced by Universal Pictures, the film grossed just over $49 million against a reported budget of $18 million. It is now considered a cult classic.

As a kid, I relished snow days and sick days when I could miss school and curl up on the sofa to watch all my favorites – “Pyramid,” “Family Feud” and “Password” were just a few. Every day after school I rushed through my homework so that I’d have time to watch “Tattletales” and “Tic Tac Dough.”

Game shows go all the way back to the days of radio, with one such program becoming the first game show to air on broadcast television – “Truth or Consequences” debuted on July 1, 1941, and before long the genre became a popular form of entertainment. All “Big Three” networks carried a variety of game shows on both daytime and primetime schedules until their popularity began to fizzle in the ’80s and ’90s.

The Television Academy announced the contenders on Wednesday night, and Ken is up against some tough competitors.

Ken will face off against fellow game show hosts Steve Harvey for Celebrity Family Feud, Pat Sajak for Wheel of Fortune, Jane Lynch for Weakest Link, and last year’s winner, Keke Palmer for Password.

Jeopardy! announced the exciting news on Instagram this week, along with a photo of Ken on stage at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California.

Kristen Stewart’s production company Nevermind Pictures has signed a multi-year first-look deal with Fremantle for film and TV projects. Stewart’s partners in Nevermind are screenwriter Dylan Meyer (“Moxie”) and producer Maggie McLean (“Boygenius: The Film”).

Under the pact, Fremantle will become the primary home for content that comes out of Nevermind. Their first projects together will be announced shortly, the companies said on Tuesday, and will include a “wide range of titles” encompassing films, dramatic TV series, and documentaries. The Nevermind gang’s roles will vary on each project, Fremantle said, with Stewart (“Love Lies Bleeding”) directing, writing, and/or acting, Meyer directing and writing, and all three partners producing.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. A Fremantle spokesperson did not immediately respond to IndieWire’s request for more details.
