“This world, as we all know, can be so full of criticism and discrimination and negativity,” Sabrina Carpenter said Sunday at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards. “So to get to be part of something, so more often than not, that is something that can bring you light, make you smile, make you dance, make you feel like the world is your fucking oyster — I am so grateful.”

It’s a perfect summary of pop fandom — but also everything that was missing from the VMAs this year. MTV’s annual bash...

Image
Beyond simply being one of pop culture’s highest honors, receiving the Video Vanguard Award at Sunday’s VMAs was especially meaningful for Mariah Carey, as it marked a full-circle moment for the singer and the ceremony.

Carey presented this very award to LL Cool J back in 1997, and who should happen to be hosting the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards? Why, none other than Mr. NCIS: Los Angeles himself. That has to mean something, right? Maybe just really good scheduling? Well done, producers.

Universal Pictures International France Will Continue Handling French-Language Movies Locally But Will Be More Selective Going Forward
Image
After an alarming report quoting Universal Pictures International France boss Xavier Albert saying that the studio is “officially stopping” to handle local movies, a source close to the studio told Variety that Universal will in fact continue releasing French-language movies but will be more cautious and selective going forward.

Albert was not available to comment directly but the source said he had been misquoted in the French article.

The studio’s French-language output has over the years been mostly limited to high-concept, broad comedies and movies aimed at large audiences or families which now tend to be better suited for streaming services such as Netflix and Prime Video.

The 2024 French box office showed that local films are still performing well, nabbing a 44% market share (outperforming American movies), it also reflected that tastes have evolved and contemporary audiences have an appetite for different kinds of films, such as “The Count of Monte Cristo,...

Mariah Carey Makes Men Disappear in Music Video for “Type Dangerous”
Image
After multiple editing delays, Mariah Carey has finally dropped the music video for “Type Dangerous,” her first original solo song since 2019’s “In the Mix,” the theme song to the short-lived ABC sitcom Mixed-Ish. The video for the new single was directed by Joseph Kahn, who previously worked with Carey on her videos for 2003’s “Boy (I Need You)” and 2013’s “#Beautiful.”

Co-produced by Anderson Paak and based around a sample from Eric B. & Rakim’s debut single, “Eric B. Is President,” from 1987, “Type Dangerous” is a midtempo R&b track that finds Carey shading her past lovers, including Tommy Mottola, whom she divorced in the late 1990s and not-so-diplomatically refers to as “an evil king” in the lyrics. The song is the singer’s first solo Top 10 hit on the R&b chart since 2008’s “Touch My Body.”

The special effects-laden video for “Type Dangerous” sees Carey working her...

Rome Streetz and Conductor Williams Got Inspired by ‘Trainspotting’ and Made a Masterpiece

Rome Streetz set a high bar with 2022’s Kiss The Ring. The Brooklyn-based Mc’s star had been steadily rising since 2019’s Headcrack (with Futurewave), but Kiss The Ring is viewed by many as the crown jewel of his recent output. Whether it’s him getting off bars on “In Too Deep’s” shimmering loop or the Bonnie & Clyde story on “Armed & Dangerous,” Rome’s impeccable lyricism found its oasis over the eight face-scrunching beats Conductor offered to the project.

9-1-1 Season 1 Almost Had A Buck-Abby-Bobby Love Triangle: "I'm Glad It Didn't Work Out"
Image
Warning: Spoilers for 9-1-1 season 8, episode 18, "Seismic Shifts."It’s easy to forget how much the cast of 9-1-1 has changed in the course of eight seasons, but a love triangle between Buck, Abby, and Bobby could have led the characters down a much different path. Excluding Buck, most relationship issues in 9-1-1 season 8 have arisen from outside circumstances that had major ramifications on pre-existing and largely stable unions. For instance, Bobby’s death in 9-1-1 had a huge impact on not only Athena, but just about everyone else on the 118 as well.

In an Instagram video posted by TVLine, Buck recalls his strong objections to that story choice. According to Buck’s actor, Oliver Stark, one particular relationship would have been shaken up in a far different way as early as the first season. Love triangles aren’t exactly new ground for Ryan Murphy’s TV shows,...

Carissa’s Corner: From Boom to Bleak — What the Hell Happened to Fall TV?
Image
There was a time when Fall TV meant something: new seasons, new shows, and a reason to count down to premiere week.

In 2015, broadcast networks came in hot. ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, and The CW unleashed a scripted wave of dramas, comedies, genre swings, and potential watercooler hits.

You didn’t need five streaming subscriptions and an Excel sheet to keep up. You just needed your TV, a DVR (if you were fancy), and a little time to sink into the stories being told.

(Carissa’s Corner)

Fast forward to 2025, and it’s bleak. Scripted programming hasn’t just declined. It’s been gutted.

And if you’re wondering where the baton got dropped… well, the answer’s messier than you think.

Indigo De Souza Announces New Album Precipice, Unveils “Heartthrob”: Stream
Image
Indigo De Souza has announced her new album, Precipice, due out July 25th. As a preview, she’s shared the lead single, “Heartthrob,” alongside its accompanying video. Stream it below.

Precipice was made in close collaboration with Elliott Kozel and finds the singer-songwriter taking a creative and spiritual leap forward, as De Souza explained in a statement: “Life feels like always being on the edge of something without knowing what that something is. Music gives me ways to harness that feeling. Ways to push forward in new directions.”

“Heartthrob” embodies the nuances of this evolution. While the track features an uptempo drumbeat and soaring guitars, the song’s lyrics capture an experience of abuse: “He really tricked me, I let him touch me where he wanted/ Didn’t know the difference between loving and haunting.”

“I wrote ‘Heartthrob’ as a way to help process...

Image
Surviving the apocalypse isn’t just about stockpiling canned beans or dodging zombies — it takes grit, guts, and a whole lot of luck.

Unfortunately, these TV characters are running on empty in all three departments.

Whether it’s their diva demands, inability to adapt, or just plain bad luck, these lovable (and not-so-lovable) folks wouldn’t make it to sundown in a world gone mad.

They’d either annoy their survival group, attract trouble with their over-the-top antics, or just plain trip over their own feet.

Sure, we love them in their respective shows, but let’s be real — they’d be the first ones voted off Apocalypse Island.

The Music Icon Who “Out-gangstered” Snoop Dogg, Suge Knight: She Left Them “Scared and shook up” for Their Problematic Song Lyrics
Image
Problematic lyrics in music are not a new thing, the issue of portraying women in a bad light has been rampant in most famous raps. Several artists and fans have called out popular rappers and musicians for allegedly following the toxic trend of women-hatred in their songs.

However, there was one female artist who had guts bigger than the entire music industry combined. Back in the 90s, when rappers like Snoop Dogg and Suge Knight had gained prominence, their songs allegedly featured several misogynistic ideals. This annoyed popular singer Dionne Warwick, who took it upon herself to school the famous rappers and bring them back on track.

Heartstopper season 3 soundtrack: Every song featured by episode
Image
Heartstopper season 3 has finally arrived on Netflix, releasing eight brand-new episodes on Oct. 3. While fans are surely elated to be reunited with Nick and Charlie and all of their friends, the latest season tackles some of the heaviest and most mature subjects of the teen drama series yet.

As hinted by the second season, Charlie struggles with his mental health in the third season. These struggles come to a head in season 3 as both Nick and Tori worry about him and what he's going through. Elsewhere in the season, the teens begin to worry about their futures and where life will take them in university, their relationships, and beyond.

While the series digs deeper into the realities of being a teenager, Heartstopper maintains its happy-go-lucky and lovable quality that's so unmistakable. Part of that lovable qualities comes from the catchy and modern indie rock and pop soundtrack that will have...

Why ‘The Voice’ Judges Sent Crystalla Gonzalez Home
Image
The Voice judges sent Crystalla Gonzalez home on Monday night’s episode. Despite getting to perform with one of the judges, no coach turned their chair for the rock singer. Here’s why.

The Voice Season 26

Season 26 of The Voice has only just begun. For those unaware, this season’s judges are returning coaches, Reba McEntire and Gwen Stefani. The first-time coaches and the unlikeliest of friends are Snoop Dogg and Michael Bublé.

After the first episode gave surprises like the use of Reba McEntire’s Replay Button for this season, performers being sent home are still getting to perform with their idols. However, they are still forced to leave the competition.

The series is well known for its judges acting as coaches and the judgment of performers solely on their voice to add the hopefuls to their teams. Unfortunately, there are times when no one turns their chairs. Sadly,...

The Nobody soundtrack features a mix of rock and roll hits and Americana classics, capturing the essence of the movie's intense action and dark humor. The songs in Nobody are carefully chosen to enhance the film's fight choreography and add a darkly comedic edge to the story. The music in Nobody also serves to highlight the personalities of the characters, showing their hidden depths and adding depth to the overall viewing experience.

Directed by Ilya Naishuller, Nobody features a soundtrack full of rock and roll hits and Americana classic songs. Bob Odenkirk stars as Hutch Mansell, a mild-mannered family man whose violent past and deadly skills show themselves after he fails to prevent a home invasion. Mariah Carey’s 10 Greatest Remixes
Image
Mariah Carey is the quintessential crossover artist, with a catalog of hits that bridges the gap between pop, R&b, hip-hop, and house music. Though the so-called elusive chanteuse has shied away from the latter genre in recent years, she seems headed back into the fold. Just days after hopping on an R&b remix of Muni Long’s “Made for Me,” Mariah has dropped a deep house mix of “Portrait,” the closing track from her underrated 2018 album Caution.

Clocking in at a whopping 16 minutes, “Portrait” is the singer’s longest remix to date, including completely reworked vocals and snippets from her new Audible podcast, detailing how she approaches the remix process. “We usually just let the beat be anything,” she explains. “It didn’t have to be specifically in the same key or the same vibe…as the original. So you can just be free.”

A quick look at...

The Celebration of Mimi: Inside Sold-Out Opening Night of Mariah Carey’s Las Vegas Residency
Image
When news broke in early February that Mariah Carey had booked a return ticket to Las Vegas to mount another residency, it was revealed that she would design the set list as a celebration of her 2005 blockbuster album, The Emancipation of Mimi.

It inspired the title of the exclusive run — The Celebration of Mimi — as well as the timing. Carey took the stage at Park MGM’s Dolby Live to launch the 16-date residency on April 12, 2024, exactly 19 years to the day after the album was released. It’s no surprise Carey wanted to commemorate the 14-track effort, which sold more than 10 million copies worldwide and brought the elusive chanteuse back into familiar territory at the top of the charts. The success of Emancipation of Mimi was fueled by the No. 1 smash “We Belong Together” and punctuated by singles “It’s Like That,” “Shake It Off,” “Get Your Number,” “Don’t Forget About Us,...

Is Hip-Hop Bringing Back the Lost Art of the Wtf Album?

When it comes to truth in advertising, few albums this year are going to top Lil Jon’s just-released Total Meditation. Not remotely hip hop, the music is instead a soothing sonic bath akin to what one would hear in a massage-therapy room at a spa. As those tracks wash over you, the rapper, producer and home-improvement guru offers self-help tips (“anxiety can be a big problem for many people. When you meditate on a regular basis, the health benefits continue to increase”) and specific suggestions on how to meditate:...

What Happened To Daisy De La Hoya After Rock Of Love 2?
Image
Daisy de la Hoya struggled with drugs and alcohol after her reality TV fame but has since overcome those issues. She continues to make music and is an advocate for animal rights, working with charities. Daisy keeps a low profile away from the limelight but shares glimpses of her life on social media.

Musician Daisy de la Hoya gained notoriety when she was cast in the VH1 show Rock Of Love season 2 in 2007, but life hasn't been smooth sailing since the show wrapped. Rock Of Love centered around mega rock star Brett Michaels of the glam band Poison finding true love. ‘Sweeney Todd’ Stumbles Post-Groban & Ashford, Pre-Tveit & Foster – Broadway Box Office
Josh Groban at an event for La 82e cérémonie des Oscars (2010)
Broadway box office took a slide last week as receipts for Sweeney Todd fell by more than $1 million with the departures of Josh Groban and Annaleigh Ashford (and before the February 9 arrival of big-name replacements Aaron Tveit and Sutton Foster).

Overall, box office for the 25 Broadway productions was off by 15% from the previous week, with receipts for the week ending January 21 (the first week of the annual Broadway Week 2-for-1 discount promotion) totaling $23,589,174. Attendance of 204,612 was down only 6% (and holding about even with last season at this time).

Average ticket price for all shows was $115.29, down from $126.70 the previous week.

Most of the productions reported a drop in receipts, though none on the scale of the $1,315,747 hit taken by Sweeney: The acclaimed Sondheim musical revival grossed $795,400, compared to the massive $2,111,147 for the previous week, when Groban and Ashford came to the ends of their limited runs.
