As the company prepares for a broad restructure across its television business, Deadline understands that unscripted chief Corie Henson is leaving the company.

Henson has been EVP, Unscripted Content, Competition and Game Shows, NBCUniversal Entertainment and oversees series such as NBC staples such as America’s Got Talent and The Voice as well as Peacock hits The Traitors and Love Island. NBCUniversal declined to comment.

Exclusive: Unscripted TV veteran James Lessell has launched the UK’s latest indie production outfit.

The former Naked Head of Factual Entertainment has created The End TV, and has drafted in fellow British production veterans Ed Booth and Justin Bradley-Lennon to work at the production house. Lessell exited Fremantle’s The Rap Game UK producer Naked in June to launch the biz.

The End will focus on producing TV shows and branded content in the UK and abroad. Lessell is MD and founder, while Booth is Creative Director and Bradley-Lennox is Series Director. We hear development deal discussions are underway with larger players.

Lessell has worked in unscripted TV for 25 years, producing shows such as The X Factor, Dancing on Ice, The Only Way is Essex, Celebs Go Dating and Big Brother. He was most recently fact-ent chief at Naked and before that worked at The Masked Singer UK maker Bandicoot TV.

Hosted by NBA Champion Dwayne Wade, who is also an executive producer through his production company 559th & Prairie Entertainment, the TBS competition series The Cube is back for its second season, with the kind of edge-of-your-seat energy that you’d expect when a $250,000 jackpot is on the line. Each pair that appears on the show has nine lives to complete seven games, some of which they must tackle on their own while others include teamwork, inside an intimidating glass box. They have one chance to call on Wade to use his athletic prowess for an assist, but there’s no guarantee of a win, and the teams will eventually have to decide whether to take the money and walk away or risk everything.

The Traitors has done for formats what Top Gun: Maverick “did for the summer blockbuster,” says Glenn Hugill, with barely a hint of hyperbole.

Deal or No Deal exec Hugill, who was not involved with the creation of the The Traitors, believes its success “benefits all of us in the business.” He is one of several unscripted creatives and sellers who tell Deadline they are bullish about the state of the sector.

As these execs gear up for next week’s Mip TV confab in Cannes, Hugill does not refrain from talking up The Traitors’ impact, a show that has now made waves in the U.S., UK, Australia, France and a number of European territories, along with its home country of The Netherlands where it was forged by All3Media label Idtv.

Lingo is on the move.

CBS has pushed the final four episodes of the RuPaul Charles-hosted quiz show’s first season to the 2023/24 season.

The show was renewed for a second season last month and those four episodes will now air as part of that run.

Lingo aired on Wednesdays at 9pm and has been replaced by repeats of FBI: Most Wanted, FBI, FBI: International and CSI: Vegas over the next four weeks.

Survivor and True Lies remain part of the Wednesday lineup.

The game sees teams of two contestants face off in fast-paced puzzle rounds to guess letters that reveal seemingly simple words. At the end of each one-hour episode, the two winning teams will make it through to a final showdown where one will walk away with an additional big cash prize.

The series, which was created by Ralph Andrews, has previously aired three versions in the U.

Sons of the Forest is the sequel to the survival horror game The Forest that was developed by the same studio, Endnight Games, and the studio has gone significant lengths to give the two games mysterious connections. At first, it can seem like the games share a similar setting and not much else. However, as players dig deeper into the secrets of the island, they might find that these games are intertwined in unexpected ways.

If you were looking forward to watching The Lazarus Project (above) on TNT tonight, you better look for something else. The acquired British drama series is the latest TNet series to miss its scheduled premiere date. The fourth season of Miracle Workers and the second season of The Cube were both Mia from TBS' schedule earlier this month.

Unfortunately, the move by the TNets is nothing new since the Warner Bros. Discovery merger last year. The second season of Chad had its second season premiere cancelled without notice -- twice. The comedy was ultimately cancelled by TBS even though the second season had been completed months earlier. The show was later sold to The Roku Channel, and season two will air on the free service sometime this year.

Corie Henson has been hired by NBCUniversal Television & Streaming as the executive vice president of entertainment unscripted content.

Henson takes over the role from Jenny Groom, who exited the company earlier this week. She will report to Susan Rovner, the entertainment content chairman for NBCU TV & Streaming.

“Corie is one of the most respected executives in the business and brings a resume overflowing with big unscripted hits that have broken out across broadcast, streaming and cable platforms,” Rovner said. “Her deep experience with large volumes of programming across multiple networks and brands is a perfect fit for our NBCU content ecosystem. She’s joining an incredible group of programming leaders working across genres, and we’re excited to welcome her to the team.”

Former Turner Networks and Fox exec Henson is set to join the company overseeing unscripted entertainment. It follows the departure of Jenny Groom, which Deadline reported today.

Deadline understands that the deal isn’t finalized but that Henson is in final talks as Groom’s replacement. She will oversee reality competition, talent competition and game show formats across NBC, its portfolio of cable networks and streamer Peacock.

Working alongside Rod Aissa, who oversees all unscripted lifestyle and documentary programming, she is expected to take charge of shows such as The Voice, America’s Got Talent and American Ninja Warrior as well as upcoming titles such as Million Dollar Island, The Wheel, Password and The Traitors.

As Discovery and WarnerMedia are set to close their 43B merger later this week, the attention has been focused mainly on the deal’s ramifications for WarnerMedia’s movie and scripted television businesses. There’s been much industry chatter about the importance of Casey Bloys’ scripted television empire and whether Toby Emmerich continues to oversee The Batman film studio.

The pair, alongside Warner Bros. TV boss Channing Dungey, are expected to report directly to David Zaslav under the company’s new structure, which is set to be unveiled shortly.

Exclusive: Objective Media Group America, the company behind series including HBO Max’s 12 Dates of Christmas and TBS’ The Cube, has made a number of promotions in its leadership team.

The All3Media-backed company has promoted Jilly Pearce to President of the company with Michael Beilinson upped to SVP, Development. Pearce was previously EVP of the producer, with Beilinson, who created 12 Dates of Christmas, was previously VP, Development.

It comes after Objective scored an order for gameshow Lingo, hosted by RuPaul, at CBS, an adaptation of a series that its UK counterpart produces for ITV. The company is also making The Great American Recipe for PBS and recently produced Great Balloon Bomb Invasion for Discovery+ and The Cube for TBS.

Pearce has been with the company since March 2017, having previously been a commissioner at Channel 4 in the UK.

The cabler announced Monday that 2021's #1 new scripted cable comedy series returns on Monday, April 11 at 10:00pm Et/Pt.

Dwyane Wade has promised tougher games after The Cube was renewed for a second season by TBS.

The WarnerMedia-owned cabler is bringing back the game show, which is based on ITV’s British series, after its initial run between June and September last year.

In The Cube, pairs of contestants are forced to compete in a series of challenges while inside a small Perspex cube. It highlights how even straightforward tasks like catching, throwing, estimating, memorizing and balancing were more difficult when confined and under pressure in a small area surrounded by a large, live studio audience.

Working on their own or as a team, each pair has nine lives to complete seven games that are worth an increasing amount of money as they inch closer to taking home a $250,000 jackpot.

The network has ordered a primetime game show reboot of long-running format Lingo with RuPaul Charles to host.

The series, which will premiere this year, is a cross between bingo and a word guessing game.

It comes as word games are all the jazz, with The New York Times recently acquiring online word smash Wordle – though CBS is thought to have been developing a primetime reboot of Lingo since last summer.

The streamer has ordered Great Balloon Bomb Invasion, a history special that will lift the lid on a relatively lesser known attack on U.S. soil by the Japanese.

Between 1944 and 1945, the Japanese launched more than 9,000 bomb-rigged balloons across the Pacific, resulting in six deaths in Oregon.

The ‘Fu-Go’ bombs reached as far east as Indiana and as far south as Texas, but only 300 have ever been found, leaving potentially thousands of bombs scattered across the country. MTV has unveiled the star-studded lineup of award presenters for the upcoming “2021 MTV EMAs.” Pop star Rita Ora, model Winnie Harlow, musician and producer Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic, WWE star Drew McIntyre, singer-songwriter Olly Alexander, DJ and producer Joel Corry and Brazilian singer-actor Manu Gavassi will each present prizes during the ceremony.

The hosts join an in-person lineup of celebrity talent which includes Maluma, Måneskin, Kim Petras, Yungblud, Griff, girl in red, show host Saweetie and World Stage headliner OneRepublic. ITV Studios-backed Gameface’s IP including ITV format The Void and Britain’s Brightest Family will integrate with The Chase producer Potato’s roster, with Adler joining Potato creative directors Martin Scott and Phil Mount and reporting into Managing Director Michael Kelpie. Gameface is one of three subsidiary labels of Itvs-backed Cats on the Roof, with Crook Productions and Second Act Productions also set to close.

The original film was released in 1987 and spawned three films in the series. The premise was unique for the time and set the tone for many future films.

PBS is entering the cooking competition kitchen.

The public broadcaster has ordered eight-part series The Great American Recipe from The Cube producer Objective Media Group America.

The “uplifting” series is hosted by chef and Today Show contributor Alejandra Ramos with judges set as Leah Cohen, Tiffany Derry and Graham Elliot.

The series will give talented home cooks from different regions of the country the opportunity to showcase their beloved signature dishes and compete to win the national search.

It will premiere in 2022 and comes out of Virginia’s public media Vpm.

The series was announced by PBS President and CEO Paula Kerger during her TCA panel.
