ReviewIf Kalki’s literary magnum opus belongs to Arunmozhi Varman, Mani Ratnam’s film belongs to Aditha Karikalan. And who can resist Vikram when he’s at the top of his game?Courtesy: Twitter/ Lyca ProductionsThe first part of Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan, co-written with Jeyamohan and Elango Kumaravel, began with Aditha Karikalan (Vikram) defeating the Rashtrakutas but refusing to behead their king. KollywoodOur social acceptance of police brutality is partly influenced by the glorification of the police taking the law into their own hands in popular culture.Tnm StaffThe recent custodial deaths of father-son Jayaraj and Bennix in Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu have triggered massive public outrage. The alleged impunity with which the police acted and the reported injuries on the bodies of the men have sparked discussions on police brutality and the violation of human rights in the legal system. Many have also begun a conversation around cinema and the glorification of bad cops. However, Nayantara’s not deserting the South entirely. She has just grabbed the lead role in Ramakhrishna’s next movie – a fantasy thriller along the lines of the mega-hit Arundhati – and has three more releases lined up this year - Bodyguard (Malayalam), Anjaneyulu (Telugu) and Aadhavan (Tamil).
Anjaneyulu with Ravi Teja is rumoured to contain a stunning performance from Nayantara as she begins to move away from her girl next door image into more serious dramas.
