Minimalistic, yet compelling

German psychological drama about a compulsive liar. This one adopts a pretty minimalistic approach and is made up of a series of long single takes. This approach can certainly slow down the pace of a movie but can work if the acting and script is of a good standard. I definitely though the latter was true here, with Moritz von Treuenfels in the central role, in particular, very good. It is a pretty convincing portrait of the behaviour of a fantasist, where you genuinely can't tell the fact from the fiction. Pretty compelling stuff.

What a waste of time.

Impostor (or Axiom) is the kind of film you watch hoping that something - anything - would happen. It doesn't. Instead, what we get are long, drawn-out shots that clearly should've been cut up to stimulate interest in the viewer.

Perhaps this was intended as an art film? If so, it failed miserably. I kept asking myself, "Well, when do people realize he's not actually who he says he is?" Little did I know that that was not the intent of this film. A better title would've been "Liar" or "Faker" because that's all he was, a liar and a faker.

Another thing that irked me was the pseudo-philosophical babblings of some of the characters in the film. They spoke as if they'd uncovered the secrets of illusive human behavior which the world has yet to grasp. Yes, the movie was that pretentious...and boring. Epic fail. Don't waste your precious time like I did.

What we believe builds our world

I watched this Movie because a German YouTuber (who also Has an English channel) called "Die Filmanalyse" (the filmaanlysis) said, it was the most intelligent movie of the year.

And it is.

The plot is pretty simple. The protagonist Julius is an imposter. He lies to everyone about his past, present and future: His current job, his parents, etc.

But not for money, in fact, we don't even know why Julius always lies.

The movie initiates a feeling of mistrust, if a friend tells us a story, did it really happen?

My favourite dialogue is at the beginning, where one of Julius friends gets asked about his religion and why he even believes in god. Julius defends his friend, who gets picked on because of his belief in god.

Julius says that we all believe something and that what we believe (and who) builds the world around us!

This is basically the key of the movie and it is presented in such an intelligent way, not only story wisely but also cinematically.

If you are looking for a drama to think about with extremely well written dialogues, you will love it.

Also, the end literally gave me goosebumps ;)

Why is this movie rated 18+? I cannot see any any reason why

This is one of the most boring film we have ever seen.

More importantly we did not understand why was it rating 18+.

They were no nudity, no blood and no excitement really.

We get that it was more a emotional & psychological film rather than an action film but really if you are putting a 18+ rating at best most would expect to see a plot and twist justifying this rating.

Utterly rubbish film. It doesn't deserve any rating.

I always get a film the benefits of the doubt but in this instance this doesn't counter.

You will waste you time watching this film. Yes, that is the way of saying it. You watch a film and not see a movie. Make this platform English and not American.
