Exclusive: There are signs of movement at Landmark Theatres, which is planning extensive remodeling at three of its top locations — Bethesda Row, Lagoon and Kendall Square – and has elevated President Kevin Holloway to chief executive.

In partnership with their respective landlords, Landmark said, the three locations will “imminently undergo extensive remodels, blending modern design with the rich history of each unique venue.”

Exhibition veteran Holloway, formerly of Alamo Drafthouse, ArcLight Cinemas and Pacific Theatres, will retain his president title.

Landmark, once the go-to chain to launch independent films, fell on hard times as did many during Covid, was strapped for cash and pivoted to add big studio fare to its lineup. The chain was slow to upgrade. Nicer theaters with new features are especially critical now as a slowly rebounding box office tries to draw fickle audiences, especially younger moviegoers, back.

It is no secret that when George Lucas created Star Wars, he took inspiration from a great breadth of sources. The space opera trappings of Star Wars were modeled after the Flash Gordon serials of the 1930s and 1940s, the story of the Skywalker family was shaped by Joseph Campbell's writing about mythology, the space battles were shot in the style of dogfights from war movies and characters like Han Solo and Boba Fett were homages to Westerns. The other day, one of our writers sat down with Mario Van Peebles to talk about his upcoming spiritual sequel to Posse, Outlaw Posse. Dark Gathering Will Appeal to Fans of Ghost-Themed and Shonen Supernatural Adventures

The third season of Superman & Lois has pushed the Kent family, as well as Lana, into rocky emotional territory. Clark has to contend with Lois' cancer, figuring out how to help the boys get through it. Thankfully, Lana's there for Clark and other characters like Sam Lane.

It's impressive given how much she's had to deal with. She's ready to get the divorce done with Kyle while working on being a better mom to Sarah and Sophie. Interestingly, the latest episode, "The Dress," has Lana coming to the fore in an even more impactful manner, reminding fans why she's the bedrock of the Superman mythos and Clark's personal life.

Smallville follows the adventures of Clark Kent, with many other Kryptonians also appearing on the show. Assassin, the final previously announced film starring Bruce Willis, has received an official release date. The actor, who first rose to fame thanks to his role in the sitcom Moonlighting, has been an action and drama star since his lead role in the smash hit 1988 film Die Hard, holding roles in popular films including Pulp Fiction and The Sixth Sense. Last March, Willis' family announced that he had retired from acting after a diagnosis of aphasia, and a health update last week revealed that he had also been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.

Per Collider, Assassin is now set to release on March 31. The release will be day-and-date, so the film will be available in certain theaters and VOD on the same day. This is the same weekend as the release of the fantasy epic Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, so it could provide some solid counter-programming for the more family-friendly outing.
