Fusing pop culture with pro sports has become more and more popular in recent years. Like how the Brooklyn Cyclones held a “Seinfeld Night,” when the minor league baseball team celebrated the popular sitcom with appearances from cast members, a George Costanza bobblehead and the implication that every single attendee would refrain from masturbation for as long as possible.
Then there was the time that the San Francisco Giants hosted a “Full House Night.” Sadly, the game didn’t end with the two teams working out their differences with a heart-to-heart convo accompanied by gentle synthesizer music.
The Simpsons has similarly been celebrated by a minor league hockey team from, appropriately enough, Springfield. Specifically, Springfield, Massachusetts.
In 2020, the Springfield Thunderbirds, an affiliate of the NHL’s Florida Panthers at the time, rebranded as The Springfield Ice-o-Topes for a whole week, complete with Simpson-ized jerseys.

After The Fantastic Four: First Steps dropped its first official trailer, netizens appeared confused by the size of Galactus. Considering how the character appeared rather small compared to his planet-devouring size, fans wondered why the MCU transformed one of its most powerful characters into barely the size of a giant or hardly a transformer.
The planet-devouring entity Galactus | image: Marvel Comics
Well, to be fair MCU’s Galactus looks incredibly faithful to the source material. Because according to comics, the planet devourer is known for changing his size and adopting his iconic anthropomorphic form while visiting Earth. So, even if the size of the character seems unusual in the trailer, MCU can easily fix it with Galactus’ key power of changing his size and appearance at will.

Though once best known for his role as Steve Stifler in the American Pie franchise, Seann William Scott’s career is making like the name of his latest project: Tim Allen’s new sitcom Shifting Gears.
While promoting his role in the already panned ABC series, Scott got candid about his claims to fame, revealing that after decades of getting recognized as the wannabe porn director with a Milf for a mom, his days of Stifler stardom are numbered — contrary to what your Gen X older brother may think.
“I still get recognized for American Pie from time to time,” he explained in a recent interview with ReMIND magazine. “But I actually get more people come up (sic) to me about Goon, the hockey movie.”
For those of you not in the loop on low(ish) budget Canadian sports flicks, Goon, which hit theaters back in 2011, tells the story of...

Dane DeHaan and Kim Coates represent two very different sides of Mormon culture in the Old West in American Primeval. Since having found his breakout turn in Josh Trank's Chronicle, DeHaan has found success on both the big and small screens with everything from the biographical drama Kill Your Darlings to The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Oppenheimer, Lisey's Story and HBO's The Staircase adaptation. Coates, meanwhile, is a popular character actor whose work extends back to the likes of Tony Scott's The Last Boy Scout, with some of his popular roles including Tig in the Sons of Anarchy universe and Goon.
Coates stars in American Primeval as the real figure Brigham Young, with the show following him in his efforts to acquire more land in Utah in the hopes of further expanding the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. DeHaan stars as Jacob Pratt, a man who sets...

As far as beloved family adventure movies go, "The Goonies" still holds up some 40 years after it arrived on the scene, becoming one of the best kids movies ever made. The classic Richard Donner-directed 1985 film, which follows a group of kids on a treasure hunt to save their neighborhood from being torn down, is as integral to some fans' childhoods as "Et: The Extra Terrestrial" or "The NeverEnding Story" (ie. other films where absolutely nothing emotionally scarring happens). It also helped make stars out of the likes of Corey Feldman, Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, and Ke Huy Quan, and features a killer Cyndi Lauper song to boot.
Like so many other revered '80s hits that audiences keep going back to for a dose of nostalgia, however, "The Goonies" has yet to receive a proper followup. By this point, it's safe to say "The Goonies 2" would likely take...

The Deadpool (2016) director will not give up on another long-delayed comic adaptation. At the time, Tim Miller was an unlikely choice for the superhero blockbuster. He had only ever worked on shorts or as an assistant director on feature films. When he was surprisingly tapped to manage Deadpool and its $58 million budget, it was an opportunity to showcase his talent. Miller took advantage, using the comic adaptation to rocket to success. Deadpool earned exceptional reviews and brought in a gross of $782 million at the box office.
Due to creative differences, Tim Miller did not work on Deadpool 2 or Deadpool & Wolverine.
Hollywood quickly took notice of Miller's talents. He was quickly tapped as a director for Terminator: Dark Fate (2019) and has served as an executive producer for Sonic the Hedgehog (2020), Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022), and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024). He has also become a TV executive producer, as he worked on Secret Level and Love,...

Back in my day, we had daredevils like Evil Knievel and Super Dave Osborne. They’d defy death while entertaining crowds of cheering fans, risking life and limb for applause. I never wanted to be a daredevil, but I did appreciate their bravery and risk-taking approach to life. Jay Baruchel is a daredevil enthusiast, too, and he’s reuniting with Goon’s Michael Dowse for The Stunt Driver, an upcoming comedy about the daredevil stuntman Ken Carter.
According to Deadline, The Stunt Driver revolves around “The Mad Canadian” Carter, who “attempts to execute the boldest maneuver of his career during the 1970s, launching a rocket car off a 90-foot-high ramp across the St. Lawrence River. The stunt would have him jump from Canada into the United States, covering more than a mile.” The film “follows Carter’s quest to make his seemingly impossible dream a reality, chronicling his preparation for...

The Netflix original series Fubar features a star-studded cast led by 1980s action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger in a comedic role. The action comedy show is created by Nick Santora and follows a father and daughter who discover that they are both undercover CIA agents, which complicates their relationship and their dangerous mission. The series continues Netflix's long line of high-profile original content, and the cast alone helps to elevate it above the usual streaming fare. Besides the show's star Schwarzenegger, the rest of the cast of Fubar represents a diverse mix of veteran actors and newcomers.
Though Fubar presents an intriguing premise and promises to be an exciting and hilarious experience on its own, it is also notable because it marks the first time that Schwarzenegger has played a major role on TV. Season 2 of last summer’s hit breakout series “The Bear” is set to premiere on Hulu on Thursday, June 22. After a tumultuous return to his family’s hole-in-the-wall Chicago restaurant, chef Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White) and his staff transform the greasy sandwich joint into a first-class dining experience after he discovers the slush fund his brother left behind. Despite having the extra money to make his dreams a reality, the future proves to be both a personal and professional challenge for Carmy and the crew.
Watch the trailer for Season 2 of “The Bear”:
Beginning on June 14, the new series continuation of the beloved film “The Full Monty” arrives on Hulu. It’s 25 years later and the men and women of Sheffield, England, are in reboot mode, navigating life and family. The original 1997 movie focused on a group of down-on-their-luck, blue-collar men who put on a strip show to make ends meet.

Osees have announced their latest albbum, a synth-pop-inspired project entitled Intercepted Message, out August 18th via In the Red. They have also shared the album’s title track as a lead single. Listen to it below.
In a “bio” for the new album, Osees frontman John Dwyer explained that it’s a “pop record for tired times.” The single — along with its news-inspired music video — supports this theme, drawing on the fatigued energy of politics and society, and channeling it into a blistering blend of punk and electro beeping and booping. In the video, Dwyer serves as the anchor for a dystopian broadcast, and as the world burns down behind his talking head, the weight of the message sinks in. Watch the video below.
From Dwyer’s perspective, Osees’ new music is intended to create a commonplace of sorts. “Social media toilet scrapers unite!” he wrote for the poetic bio.

I’m not exaggerating when I say that Matt Johnson’s BlackBerry is one of the best English Canadian films in a long time. When I interviewed Jay Baruchel about the film a few weeks ago, I prefaced our conversation by telling him this and that I wasn’t sucking up to him. Baruchel got it, as the big problem with a lot of English Canadian films is that they present to be something they’re not. They’re often set in this pseudo-us style setting, as for some reason, Canadian producers seem terrified that a film will be recognized as what it is, Canadian. As he told me in our interview, this is something that has irked Baruchel for years, and in his own films, including the two Goon movies and the recent Random Acts of Violence, they never hid the fact that they were Canadian.
As Baruchel explains it in our interview,...

The 38th edition of the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, which will run Feb. 8-18, will open with Miranda’s Victim, one of 52 world premieres in this year’s lineup, and will close with the U.S. premiere of I Like Movies, one of 78 U.S. premieres, the fest announced Wednesday.

For Canadian singer/songwriter Tobias Jesso Jr., 2015 was a dizzying year of spectacular success and total flame-out, pretty much all at once. In March of that year, he released his debut album, Goon, a collection of Laurel Canyon-y throwback piano-pop that critics loved. By the end of October, he realized he hated performing and canceled all his remaining tour dates, scrapping his career as a recording artist along with them.
But he didn’t have to wait long to find a new path. In November of 2015, Adele released 25, which included “When We Were Young,...

The Fab Four’s first and biggest movie hit comes to 4K Ultra HD! The Beatles brought something new and exciting to 1964 and the world embraced it. This United Artists release was a major event in the first wave of Beatlemania, setting the standard for Swinging London cool; thanks to Richard Lester’s flip approach and the Beatles’ positive energy little in the movie has dated. George Martin’s input for the musical end of things didn’t hurt either. The movie itself never gets old: new generations still respond with enthusiasm. It always looked super on home video, so what does the format boost add to the mix?
