My new favourite film

I'm shocked that there are only two reviews at the time of posting.

This film needs to be seen by more people, it's not a stupid flimsy romcom that seem to clutter the industry these days, think more "Once", Before Sunrise, Lost in Translation and Forget Me Not (with Tobias Menzies). It's a music inspired romantic drama rather than a romcom. It does have a few nice comedic moments but it's not silly, the acting is actually very good and sincere, and the story is very engaging.

Martha Tilston is very talented indeed, she wrote, directed and starred in this her debut film, and the music that she wrote for this is just sublime, great lyrics with lovely melodies. If you like folk music with a sprinkling of Tori Amos and Kate Bush then this will be a treat for you. The music is mostly performed live, if not all.

Set in Cornwall and little bit of the City London, it's a real feel good film that's good on the eyes too.

Enjoy.

Jarring rather than a sweet natured film

What could have been a sweet-natured and gently charming Cornish-set romance is full of jarring contradictions that irritate rather than sooth. For example the lead character claims to be an earth loving evangelist but supports wood burning stoves, drug cartels and the tobacco industry and drives an old polluting van.

Feel good, good sounds

To be fair, the story is not remarkable - been there done that kind of thing. But that's where the comparisons end. The scenery, acting, sound track and general effect on my well being were totally remarkable. Watchable, fun and with a cracking dependable ending, I could ignore any and all of the few faults. I am Cornish and live a long way away from the sea, but the imagery and seascapes stole my heart. The lead character Tally is so engaging, her delivery, timing and total performance tied the film to a rock, by the ocean. Wonderful. I agree, the lack of reviews is lamentable, but hopefully this will change with time. One to watch in a troubled world.

Breathtakingly beautiful.

We just loved this film. A film you just get so emotionally attached to. Everything about it is beautiful. Well worth watching, especially with someone you love. Martha is such a talented artist, we saw her live last night and loved the whole show. The film is an emotional ride, along with beautiful scenery. The music will touch your soul, make you realise what is important in life, and that answer is love. The soul craves nature and love and this film gives you both.! A very enjoyable experience. It's so refreshing to watch a film not made by Hollywood, a film that lifts your soul, a film touched by God.

A return to music and love

We see Tally, the inept housekeeper, drawn to an old piano and she is reminded of the music she used to make. She finds a book of poetry and is further inspired to use this time to produce a tour-de-force tape as a tribute to the poet. Leo is a corporate lawyer who needs a break from the legal world. While the movie is fairly predictable, each character plays a critical role in helping to make Tally and Leo both understand where their true priorities are in their own topsy-turvy lives. I really loved the music, it was very Tori Amos-like and anyone who likes this style of avant-garde songs will certainly love this movie. The story easily carries meaning to anyone who has ever had doubts or fears about following through on their dreams in life.

For a debut movie this is really something else

A beautiful thoughtful plot capturing two people coming to a moment of reflection in life. It's as good as I've seen in some Hollywood maga funded movies. Well done all involved. I hope you do a follow up. Great honest acting, so rare these days. The lady who wrote, acted, made and sang the beautiful music for this film, should be rightly proud of a great achievement. For such a small cast it keeps you enthralled all the way through. I particularly loved the little details that contrast modernity and money with the desire to live as many of us would love to achieve. Dreamy, captivating and most of all, entertaining.

Adored it.

Glad I bumped into this

A gentle rom com. Great atmosphere and music that gently drifted us through wet afternoon.

Of course it is a rom com, with a gentle plot and an absurd lead character. She can't work a cleaner but can create a makeshift music studio from brooms and sticky tape.

Suspend belief for a little while and enjoy a lovely bus trip through enchanted music and a boy meets girl story line.

A patch of sunshine during that wet afternoon.

Very nice, thank you.

So without spoiling the story what do you get. Beautiful folk music which you just sit quietly attentive to. Some excellent visuals of Cornwall and some gentle not from this world characters.
