In Bob Clark's 1984 film "Rhinestone," Dolly Parton plays a country singer named Jake who is utterly miserable singing at a sleazy New York nightclub called the Rhinestone. In a fit of pique -- perhaps after reading a copy of "Pygmalion" -- Jake posits that she can grab any random schnook off the street and transform them into a celebrated country music star within two weeks. The club owner, Freddie (Ron Leibman) takes that bet, saying that if Jake is successful, she'll be released from her long-term contract. If she loses, however, she'll be stuck at the Rhinestone for another five years.
Unfortunately for Jake, the random schnook she grabs is the mookish Italian cab driver Nick Martinelli, played by Sylvester Stallone. As anyone who has seen Stallone act could tell you, he is not known for his musical acumen,...

Paul Scheer's Twisters cameo is unexpected, and while it was fun to see the actor make a small appearance in the film, the reason why he was in the movie is still a bit mysterious. Twisters is a legacy sequel to the 1996 hit Twister, and despite the two films being part of the same franchise, there are very few references to the original movie. No original Twister characters return in Twisters, which is why it is a bit strange that the film gave Paul Scheer a cameo and not anyone from the original cast.
Scheer is a comedian and actor who has appeared in some incredibly popular projects, such as Veep, Fresh Off the Boat, and Big City Greens. His most popular TV shows, however, are FX's The League and Showtime's Black Monday, both of which got Scheer even more notoriety in the TV comedy circuits. However, one...

For over a year now, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia fans have been desperately seeking an update on the status of The Always Sunny Podcast. And, for over a year, they haven't heard a word from the podcast's trio: Dennis Reynolds' Glenn Howerton, Ronald 'Mac' McDonald's Rob McElhenney, and Charlie Kelly's Charlie Day. Well, that's all changed, and sadly it's bad news. The podcast followed the three (of five main cast members) as they went through the series episode by episode. Their recollections were charming and, unsurprisingly, often hilarious. But, it seems they're not even going to reach the series' HD era, which began with Season 6.

If it’s true that comedy equals tragedy plus time, Paul Scheer has a serious advantage. While audiences may recognize him as the earnestly delusional Andre from The League or as the satirical action star of Ntsf:sd:suv::, Scheer’s past isn’t as funny as his work — as evidenced by his new memoir, Joyful Recollections of Trauma. In the book, the actor, comedian, podcaster, and writer/director uncovers a layer of darkness he’s previously only hinted at, reflecting on his childhood, including abuse from his stepfather, and his longtime obsession with Hollywood.

"Madame Web," released on Abraham Lincoln's birthday, frustrated audiences everywhere with its bizarre scripting, its lack of action, its weirdly unmotivated villain, and its staunch refusal to depict its lead characters actually turning into the superheroines they were destined to become. The title character was Cassandra Webb (Dakota Johnson) a New York paramedic in 2003 who discovers she has clairvoyant powers. She traces the origin of her powers back to her birth in the Amazon rainforests, where a rare, mystical spider bit her pregnant mother. Her powers also bring her inexplicably into the company of three New York teenagers who will all become Spider-Women someday -- but not in this film.
Chasing the quartet is Spider-Man (Tahar Rahim), or rather an evil precursor to Spider-Man who has the same super-strength, the same costume, the same wall-crawling powers, and who shares Madame Web's talent for clairvoyance. He has seen a...

Satellite audio firm SiriusXM is trimming its global workforce by about 3% in an effort to become “more efficient, agile, and flexible,” CEO Jennifer Witz wrote in a memo to employees.
The company last year unveiled a significant revamp of its app and has made a series of talent deals in a push into podcasts.
“We made significant progress on the transformation of our business in 2023, but we have just begun to scratch the surface of what is possible here at SiriusXM,” Witz wrote in the memo. “To continue on our path to future subscriber growth and sustain our company’s success as the competitive landscape evolves, it’s imperative that we become even more efficient, agile, and flexible. Therefore, today we are making several organizational changes, including the difficult decision to eliminate certain roles, which will allow us to move faster and collaborate more effectively in support of our long-term objectives.

SiriusXM will shut down its podcast app Stitcher at the end of August.

The SiriusXM Podcast Network, which includes content production hubs Stitcher Studios and Earwolf, remains unchanged as part of this decision and there will not be layoffs as part of this.

Lexi Alexander's 2008 film "Punisher: War Zone" may be one of the most gonzo mainstream superhero films ever made. Like going to a drive-in on acid, "War Zone" is brutally violent to a cartoonish degree. The mayhem tally is one for the record books. The title character, played by Ray Stevenson, punches a man so hard, his fist exits the back of his head. In another scene, the Punisher hangs by his knees from a chandelier, a gun in each hand, spinning around as he lays waste to a ballroom full of baddies. The film's villain falls face-first into a bottle-crushing machine, leaving his face a stitched-up patchwork mask. In one amazing shot, a hopped-up parkour enthusiast is exploded with a rocket launcher while in midair. The film's final line of dialogue is one of the Punisher's friends complaining that he has human brain matter on him.

Seth Rogen recalls a crazy argument he once had with The Green Hornet producer Neil Moritz. Directed by Michel Gondry, The Green Hornet was a 2011 action-comedy remake of the 1960s show of the same name. It starred Rogen and Jay Chou as a pair of masked crime-fighters who team up after Rogen’s character’s father dies. Despite its famous cast and the beloved director at its helm, The Green Hornet was widely loathed.

Stephen King has been a certifiable master of horror for decades, inspiring countless creatives from authors to artists to filmmakers and many, many more. His prolific writing is the subject of awe and mockery, but it’s undeniable that some of our favorite films of all time were born out of King’s eccentric mind. It’s only natural that the author would try his hand at directing after seeing his work adapted by so many others, and in 1986 his one and only directorial venture was released: Maximum Overdrive.
Based on King’s short story Trucks from the anthology Night Shift, Maximum Overdrive follows a group of survivors battling sentient machinery (mostly trucks) trying to take over the planet. It’s a wacky premise that could be an interesting commentary on the way the technologies we create ultimately subjugate us. Instead, it’s a chaotic B-movie full of logic gaps,...
