The 63rd Annual Tony Awards

1 review
7/10

Neil Patrick Harris did an impressive job...

This was one of the more enjoyable Tony Awards shows in recent years. Personally, I enjoyed the segments honoring the musical revivals more than the current fare. WEST SIDE STORY, SOUTH PACIFIC and PAL JOEY got some nice segments and made me yearn for a return to that kind of musical fare over what passes for musical comedy today.

NEIL PATRICK HARRIS, from the very first moment he stepped before the mike, made a very favorable impression on me. He never missed a cue, kept his delivery light and amusing and seemed to be enjoying himself as host of the night's proceedings. In fact, he was so successful that I bet anything he'll be called upon some day to host the Oscars, the way Hugh Jackman did recently.

All in all, a colorful tribute to what's available on Broadway and an entertaining way to present an award show without too many dull speeches. I've heard LIZA MINNELLI in better voice but she too seemed to be genuinely pleased to be honored with an award, as was the always gracious ANGELA LANSBURY who has become a national treasure for theater goers and movie fans.
