Wife and I picked this movie at random to watch on Valentines Day, never having heard of it. We were pleasantly surprised, in more than one way.
I wouldn't say it was perfect, it was a tad cheesy in parts. But overall it was charming, funny, and refreshingly very clean...nobody sleeping around or bad language that I can remember. And Alyssa Milano is easy on the eyes.
And the twist at the end was very creative...as surprising as anything M. Night Shyamalan ever did. My wife can usually see movie plots miles away, but was totally blindsided by this one.

My Girlfriend's Boyfriend stars Alyssa Milano (Charmed) as Jesse, an unlucky-in-love woman who recently gave up on finding the right guy, all until two perfect men walk into her life. Jesse must try hard to keep it a secret from her two suitors, while attempting to find out which one will have her heart.
- I was watching this movie with little expectations, All rom-coms seem the exact same to me, the same cliché's and obvious plots. But I can gladly say I was very surprised by this unique rom-com. Alyssa Milano still looks as youthful as ever and her acting is good. Christopher Gorham plays one of the love-interests and shines throughout the movie, the chemistry was great between them. Tom Lenk plays Jesse's brother, who provides a comedy side-plot that definitely made me laugh.
- The only problem I had with this movie was that it got a little boring at times and scenes were dragged out longer than they could have been.
- During the end of the movie, there is an interesting twist in the tale, one that did indeed catch me by surprise and was something I'd never seen in a rom-com before.

"Ethan Reed" (Christopher Gorham) is a nice guy who wants to be a successful writer. Naturally, he becomes quite disappointed when the romance novel he has spent a lot of time on is turned down by his publisher because it lacks passion. So, to help relieve his frustrations and collect his thoughts he goes to a nearby coffee shop and just happens to meet an attractive woman named "Jesse Young" (Alyssa Milano) who works there and agrees to go out on a date with him. Not long afterward, however, Jesse is asked by another man by the name of "Troy Parker" (Michael Landes) to also go out with him. Finding Troy almost irresistible she quickly agrees as well. It's only while dating both men on alternate days that she finds herself caught in a serious dilemma as both men each have something unique to offer, and as time goes by her problem of deciding which one to choose and which one to drop, becomes even more difficult. Now rather than reveal any more I will just say that this was a cute romantic-comedy which had several good scenes and decent acting all around. Unfortunately, there wasn't a great deal of passion, and the differences between Ethan and Troy were overplayed a bit as well. In any case, I thought that this film was good enough for the time spent and have rated it accordingly. Average.
I went into My Girlfriend's Boyfriend expecting a run-of-the-mill romantic comedy, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it is actually quite unique. This charming film features good acting, realistic dialogue and a clever story. In fact, part of me wanted to re-watch this movie immediately after viewing it for the first time. Well done, Mr. Tufts.

The best thing about the film is the title. It got me curious, then I decided to give it a try to learn what's that mean. Love triangle is something what I anticipated, but to know how good it is going to be was my eagerness. I did not know anybody from it, well, except Alyssa Milano. It was a low cost film, but production was good. The opening was decent, so expected a fine development and conclusion. Then did I disappointed with it? Well, a little!
It got me. At one point I predicted it entirely wrong. I realised that only during the final few minutes. Yep, the actors were good and so the fairly fitting ending, but for some people that might look like a grand twist. I think the writing, including dialogues and direction was better than I expected. Feels like it is an ordinary version of 'Ruby Sparks'. If you had liked that, probably you would like it as well, though it is not a fantasy.
Whatever you thought of it, the last 5-10 minutes makes you change your stance, that's how it is designed. So it is not a best romance- comedy, but a watchable one for being slightly original. I would surely give a thumbs up to you to go for it, only if you say you won't try to predict it, but try to watch it like the normal people. In my opinion, that's how it to be watched for the maximum benefit.
6/10

I'm writing this review after I've just watched the movie.
I think that the idea of a story revealed in the same time with the movie story it's very great. Maybe it will make you confused almost all the movie time but when it ends and things turns upside down it gets you a great feeling.
I have to admit that from the beginning I've watched the movie a little bit disappointed about the story line and all the stereotypes I thought i would see but things got more and more interesting as the story reveals.
There is nothing I can say right now about this movie but it's worth watching it. Enjoy it!

I absolutely loved this movie. Daryn Tufts writes an excellent script that is different than the majority of the romantic comedies these days. I am always on the lookout for romantic comedies that aren't cookie-cutter predictable. Yes, you can almost always tell the two main leads are going to end up together, but this movie takes such an unexpected path, it's quite refreshing. Don't be dissuaded by the low score here on IMDb. The majority of the user reviews for this movie are very positive. I am quite surprised that this wasn't picked up by a major distributor like Napoleon Dynamite was by Fox Searchlight. It deserved to be. Finally, it was refreshing to see a cute and clever romantic comedy without the vulgar language and sexual situations. It hearkens back to Sleepless in Seattle in that manner. Give 'My Girlfriend's Boyfriend' a chance and let it touch your heart.

"My Girlfriend's Boyfriend" is a nice little love story. The main idea behind the movie is nice and actually surprising. I was really wishing that the director would say the same story in a bit more engaging and different way. The problem of the movie is that throughout the story you do not feel anything. No passion comes through. Moreover, acting of Alyssa Milano is very poor and the only one who is believable in the movie is Christopher Gorham. Unfortunately, somehow the story didn't allow him to be the one you are cheering up for from your living room. All in all, it is below average movie, not a movie you will remember or be inspired by.
Rebecca (Alyssa Milano) lost her father when she was a youngster. Fortunately, her loving uncle (Beau Bridges) stepped in to help care for her and he's still looking out for her interests. Now a waitress in a cafe, Uncle stops in to encourage his stung-by-divorce niece to take a leap of faith and start dating again. She promises to try. Unbelievably, two men enter the cafe within 30 minutes, with requests for her phone number. One is Ethan (Christopher Gorham), a gifted writer who has just been told by his editor (Carol Kane) that his latest work will NOT be published. He is hurting and is contemplating a career change. Rebecca tries to cheer him up and does her job so well, that digits are exchanged. Not ten minutes later, another gentleman, Troy (Michael Landes), a rising ad writer, drops in for a carry-out order and ends up charmed by Becca, too, especially when she tells him how much she enjoys a certain ad he wrote. Again, Rebecca writes down her number. Over the course of the next few weeks, Becca's schedule is a whirlwind of dates and kisses. Ethan, poor as a church mouse, nevertheless takes her on picnics and hikes, even hustling Becca over to his sister's house. There, they all romp with Ethan's three active young nieces and nephews. Meanwhile, Troy entices Rebecca with fine dining, wine, and concerts. How ever will she choose between them? Also, to be honest, how can she string two men along, when its obvious both of them are getting very serious? This is a sweet film and an unusual story. Viewer, be prepared for a twisted ending that is satisfying but unexpected. Milano, very beautiful, is touching in the lead role while Landes, Gorham and the others do fine work, too. Romantic drama fans will also like the costumes, sets, script, photography and direction. Yes, the cover looks more like a romcom but, while there are funny moments, the story has a serious undertone. However, fans of romance should seek this one out before a new moon appears.
When I read the synopsis for this film I thought it sounded like a good romance. A film about a girl who has been unlucky in love then finds herself having to choose between two men. The film follows the character of Jessie (a waitress) who meets Ethan (a writer). He's struggling to get any of his manuscripts published and is about to give up on his dream of becoming a novelist until he meets Jessie. She inspires him to never give up on his dream but whilst Jessie's inspiring Ethan to write, she's also dating Troy (a man who works in advertising). The film follows Jessie as she simultaneously dates both men whilst keeping it a secret from each other. We see her struggle as she tries to decide which guy is right for her.
Seeing her cheat on Ethan (who appeared to perfect in so many ways) was frustrating. My heart was breaking for him as she continued to see Troy behind his back. She seemed to have no conscience as she pinned the two men against each other - unable to decide who she preferred. Then just when you think she's going to do the right thing and come clean to Ethan there is a shock twist that I did not see coming - a twist that completely transforms the film! It goes from being a simple romantic tale with a frustrating leading lady to something else entirely. And to think I spent most of the film hating Jessie for cheating on Ethan...

First let me say, that I love movies, almost all of them. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Sometimes I love them because of just how bad they are. I love cheesy love stories from the 80's that no one else seems to like, and horrible cult films where the actors over act. With this in mind, I have to say that this movie was really bad. The acting was painful to watch (except from the lead male), the story line was boring, the dialogue was awful, all in all, it was just a waste of time. I actually ended up fast forwarding most of the film as I just couldn't take it. So trust me, if I love some movies out there that are considered really bad, and even I don't like this one, than you should probably just pass.....

I was bored and found this movie, so decided to watch it with my girlfriend. The movie started feeling like a low budget movie, but who cares about that? I think that we should at least acknowledge producers and directors who are trying to become big. This producer made a fantastic low budget movie.
The actors did fantastic and the movie was very clean. No nasty scenes, no cursing, nothing offensive. Such an inspiring movie with HUGE jaw-dropping twist at the end that will leave you shocked. Recommending this movie, to some friends. In my opinion, I think they did a very great job with this movie.

In an attempt to stretch too far Daryn Tufts almost capsizes his debut full length directorial. A script that is written on a basic platform Tufts explores his minds creativity by adding in a twist that which certainly is clever. My Girlfriends Boyfriend isn't the obvious tale of a girl torn between 2 men as the trailer implies, instead it's a movie with massive potential which Tufts fails to discover. Primarily due to the reason the main line theme of a writer seeking for inspiration is overcast by the prominence given to the budding sideline theme of love. My Girlfriends Boyfriend hence falls amongst the vast numbers of Rom-Com movies and disappears without making a noteworthy mark. Ethan who is played by Christopher Gorham is a writer who has failed on many attempts to have his work published. Ethan's work seems to lack the creativity that publishers seek and is cast aside as too generic. The flare of the protagonist isn't exactly written in the flamboyant manner that publishers seem as commercially valuable. Ethan who is seeking inspiration meets Jesse who is very poorly played by Alyssa Milano. Jesse who is single and is divorced as predicted is this long lost inspiration Ethan needs. The exchanging of phone numbers seals the deal for the first date. Tufts first flaw is at this point when Troy walks in and meets Jesse, the core theme gets sidelined and a love triangle is given prominence. Troy who is played by Michael Landes is a successful advertising executive who comes through as too good to be true. It's obvious that Tufts makes this choice of sidelining the main theme deliberately so that the twist in the end would dazzle the average viewer. In this case for me he fails to bring the movie back in completely thus wasting his own efforts on a good script. Think of it like this. It's like being on a date. While you drive for dinner on the freeway, you take a detour through a scenic countryside to impress the other and end up getting lost! Christopher Gorham and Micheal Landes stand well ahead in terms of performance with comparison to Alyssa Milano. Gorham could not have done a better job with a convincing Ethan. The underdog which is Ethan is what pull the movie through to the finish line even with low ratings. It's surprising to see how Milano plays Jesse. If it's done with intent or if it's done under specific directions of Tufts is what makes it even more difficult to watch. Alyssa Milano this time is written off as quite difficult to tolerate watching. Title: My Girlfriends Boyfriend Directed by: Daryn Tufts Starring: Alyssa Milano, Micheal Landes and Christopher Gorham Rated: PG Rating: 05/10 84 Minutes

"My Girlfriend's Boyfriend" is just what a romantic comedy should be: cute, romantic, and funny. It's also incredibly clean. The writer/director didn't rely on any gross-out or sex humor; instead, the story was filled with genuinely funny moments. Especially watch for the gum commercial--I laughed out loud repeatedly (and am chuckling again as I think about it)! The leads do a great job, and Tom Lenk nearly steals the show as the main character's brother. This isn't your predictable chick flick; sure, you can probably guess who will end up together, but the route the movie took from point A to point B wasn't at all what I expected. I'm always on the lookout for movies I can recommend without reservation, and this is definitely one. Highly recommended!
