Raquel (Clara Galle) and Ares (Julio Peña) had a rocky on-again, off-again relationship, but they got a happy ending in Through My Window 3: Looking at You. Ares and Raquel have been the main couple of the entire trilogy, experiencing steamy romance and crushing breakups throughout. Looking at You is the final installment of the Netflix original trilogy, so they had to make a final decision about their relationship, one way or another.
As the final chapter and one of the best movies in the Through My Window trilogy, Looking at You had a lot of story lines left to wrap up. After Through My Window: Across the Sea's ending and Yoshi's tragic death, everyone's life had taken a turn for the worse. Spain is having a moment.
If that sounds familiar, it might be because Spain’s been having a moment for the last few years. The bump came when the government launched the Spain Audiovisual Hub in 2021, offering strategic backing of the industry by pumping 1.6 billion euros ($1.73 billion) into it.
In the three years since, Spain has made progress on all four of the Hub’s main areas of focus: attracting foreign investments and shoots, improving financial and tax instruments, training talent — especially women — as well as regulatory reforms and the elimination of administrative barriers.
Now, Spain has been designated MIPCOM’s 2024 Country of Honor, and the Spanish government has launched an ambitious campaign called Spain, Where Talent Ignites aimed at boosting the country’s global recognition, reputation and marketability of Spanish productions, and growing business opportunities in an increasingly competitive landscape.

Toledo, Spain — How do you grow a streaming service in today’s so-overcrowded market? One solution, if you’re pan-European Ott player SkyShowtime, is paraded on a billboard at Spain’s Conecta Fiction this week: “Yellowstone.”
Tapping content from Paramount and Universal Studios, as well as DreamWorks, NBC and Sky Studios, SkyShowtime offers “shows and movies from two legacy studios, two of the biggest entertainment brands in the world,” Kai Finke,SkyShowtime chief content officer, said at a Conecta Fiction keynote Thursday. “It’s a privilege, a luxury, content from Paramount Pictures or Universal Pictures is definitely powering us,” he added.
That said, “we’ve understood that in order to operate successfully streaming services across our region and European footprint, it is absolutely key for us to tackle local programming,” he added.

When I started watching Raising Voices, I had no idea what it was going to be about. However, a little into the first episode, I was reminded of the American series Grand Army. Also a Netflix original, Grand Army, tells the story of teenagers in a very similar manner to the Spanish-language adaptation, but in a more graphic manner. Raising Voices, tells the story of Alma, a 17-year-old girl who is struggling with teenhood until one day, her life completely changes. Raising Voices is a thought-provoking TV series that allows young audiences to answer the question, “What is assault?” Through four leading characters, the series explores the many different ways young girls are treated and how they can face these terrible challenges. Many times, girls are forced to believe that they’re the problem, and they put themselves in situations where they get assaulted. The series ethically explores these thoughts...

Exclusive: Wattpad/Webtoons has hired Josh Campbell & Matt Stuecken to adapt I’m the Grim Reaper from the webtoon created by Grave Weaver.
Sam Raimi and Zainab Azizi will executive produce the series with Weaver, who’ll also team on the development process.
I’m the Grim Reaper centers on Scarlet, a young woman who wakes up in the ninth circle of hell with no idea how she got there. Satan offers to send Scarlet back to Earth if she’ll work as his reaper. But it doesn’t take long for Scarlet to realize that Satan’s offer is even worse than she feared. The story slots perfectly into Raimi’s wheelhouse, striking a deft balance between scares, gore and humor.

The shocking ending of Through My Window: Across the Sea challenges traditional YA romance conventions with a tragic twist. Critics found the film lacking in story and character development, but it stands out in the world of romantic Netflix originals. Yoshi's final act of love in submitting Raquel's book drives the narrative forward, leading to significant consequences in the sequel.
The Netflix-exclusive sequel Through My Window: Across the Sea delivers plenty of steamy romance, but the Spanish film also features a tragic and shocking ending that leaves a beloved character dead. Released in 2023 and coming as a follow-up to 2022's Through My Window, the film follows Raquel (Clara Galle) and Ares (Julio Peña) as their burgeoning relationship is put to the test by both distance and former flames. When Wattpad Webtoon Studios was preparing to release the drama “Float” this year, author Kate Marchant asked for a little help from her fans. The Lionsgate film was based on her story, and now she presented three movie posters to her followers, asking them to pick their favorite.
“I can feel your readers shifting in their seats,” Aron Levitz, president of Wattpad Webtoon Studios, says with a laugh. “All those creative execs are going, ‘Wait a minute, people knew about it before it went out? Are you sure that’s Ok?’”
For Levitz, the answer is a resounding yes. His company is shaking up the traditional approach to creating film and TV adaptations by putting the power in the hands of fans.
Just last month, the third movie in the “Through My Window” series, adapted from Wattpad author Ariana Godoy’s webnovels, dominated the Netflix film charts, amassing 14 million views...

Spain’s film and TV industries are in their second wave as standout content providers for global streamers. Some of the country’s most intriguing titles will take the international stage this weekend at MipTV in Cannes.
Built on a foundation of hits such as “The Red Band Society,” “Grand Hotel,” “Velvet” and “Locked Up,” a new era of internationally renowned content creation in Spain kicked off in 2018 with Alex Pina’s blockbuster series “Money Heist,” picked up by Netflix.
Since then, Spain has enjoyed a place among the steadiest content suppliers for major players worldwide, taking advantage of its often character-driven dramas, high-quality creators and producers, and a language spoken by more than 600 million people around the globe.
Although the market is continuously evolving, local industry has adapted to different new business models, entering bigger and more ambitious productions, often via co-production. Spanish fiction’s global popularity continues to grow to accommodate audience appetites.

The entire Through My Window trilogy, including the new installment Looking at You, has landed on Netflix's weekly Top 10 Non-English movies chart. The trilogy has accumulated 31.5 million hours viewed from 17.7 million viewers globally. While Looking at You seems like the end, Netflix may choose to continue or spin off the franchise if its success continues.

Netflix's Spanish-language romance trilogy, Through My Window, has been uneven in terms of execution. Across the Sea has a shocking death, while Looking at You gets the couple back on track. Despite low ratings, the first film sets the foundation for Ares and Raquel's romance journey.
Netflix's movie series Through My Window has been a big success since it started in 2022, but the Spanish language film trilogy is uneven in its ranking of quality. The series acts as a prequel to Money Heist, following the protagonist on a different caper.
Alongside Alonso, show stars Michelle Jenner (Isabel), who plays Keila, an expert in electronic engineering, Tristán Ulloa (Fariña) as Damián, a philanthropic professor and Berlin’s confidant, Begoña Vargas (Welcome to Eden) is Cameron, a kamikaze who always lives on the edge, Julio Peña Fernández (Through My Window) plays Roi, Berlin’s faithful squire, and Joel Sánchez brings Bruce to life, the relentless man of action in the gang.

Orson Welles famously started but never finished an adaptation in Spain of Don Quixote, Miguel de Cervantes’ beloved 17th-century novel. Terry Gilliam’s first attempt to shoot his take on Quixote fell apart so spectacularly in 2000 that it resulted in a widely viewed “unmaking-of” documentary titled, grimly, Lost in La Mancha.
But they weren’t just tilting at windmills. Gilliam completed The Man Who Killed Don Quixote nearly two decades later, making it one of literally dozens of screen adaptations from around the world based on the widely published novel. In April, Oscar-winning director Alejandro Amenábar (The Sea Inside)will start shooting on The Captive, an origin tale about a young, storytelling Cervantes in an Algiers prison in 1575.

A new film industry superclass is emerging in Spain: movies powered or co-backed by its streaming giants.
Perhaps the biggest example, Netflix Spain’s Andes flight disaster “Society of the Snow,” scored two Academy Award nominations last month.
Now, in the run-up to Berlin, London-based Film Constellation has acquired most world sales rights to “The Captive,” from Oscar winner Alejandro Amenábar (“The Sea Inside”) and Mod Producciones, a $15 million period adventure epic on the literary makings of “Quixote”author Miguel de Cervantes, held to ransom in a Moorish corsair jail.
Film Factory Ent. will take to market Iciar Bollain’s “I Am Nevenka,” about a feminist pioneer in Spain, and an untitled project from “Prison 77’s” Alberto Rodriguez, two fruit of the first movie slate from Movistar Plus+, the biggest Spanish pay TV/SVOD player, announced in January.
Spanish movies overperform on Netflix and Movistar Plus+. As of Feb.

Film Constellation has boarded worldwide sales, and will introduce the project to buyers at the European Film Market.
The film centers on the origin story of Miguel de Cervantes, the author of the iconic novel “Don Quixote.” At the age of 28, Cervantes was taken captive by the Moors in Algiers, leading to his creative birth.

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures is on board to release the film in Spain next year.

‘Elite’ Producer Zeta Studios, Wattpad Webtoon Studios Ink Latin America First-Look Deal (Exclusive)
Miami — In a potentially powerful alliance, Spain’s Zeta Studios, producer of Netflix megahit “Elite,” has signed to develop Latin American Spanish-language webnovels from Wattpad Webtoon Studios, the online publisher via Webtoon of web novel “Through My Window.” Its movie makeover ranks as Netflix’s fourth most-viewed non-English film ever.
Both companies will also partner on projects in Spain on a first priority non-exclusive basis, they announced Tuesday, just before first panel sessions at the second edition of Content America, the Miami TV market and forum.
The pact marks another key step in Zeta Studios’ expansion in Latin America. In its first major corporate move, in June 2023, Madrid-based Zeta Studios, also producer of HBO Max banner title “García!,” named Marcelo Tamburri, one of Latin America’s preeminent TV execs, to the newly-created position of director of international content.

In news that is sure to move waves in Spain, Portugal and beyond, former Netflix exec Juan Mayne, a name inextricably linked to the build of Spain as a global film-tv power, has been appointed as SkyShowtime regional content director for Iberia, encompassing Spain and Portugal.
The move creates an effective new streaming door to knock on for Spanish producers as some other – though not all – platforms are curbing commissions or orders in the two countries.
SkyShowtime in Spain and Portugal will be led, moreover, by one of Spain’s best known, connected and personable of TV execs, supercharging its operation in Spain from the get-go.
Mayne will report to the Amsterdam-based Kai Finke, himself appointed in September as chief content officer at the Comcast-Paramount joint venture SVOD platform , which focuses on European audiences. Mayne joins the now established European programming team of Edyta Pytlewska – regional content director for Central...
