Keke Palmer is set to star in a TV adaptation of the dark comedy film “The ‘Burbs,” which has been ordered straight-to-series at Peacock.

Celeste Hughey will adapt the film for television. Seth MacFarlane is set to executive produce, as will Brian Grazer of Imagine Entertainment, with Imagine having produced the film. Dana Olsen, who wrote the film, will co-executive produce.

The series will film on the Universal Studios backlot, just like the movie. Released in 1989, “The ‘Burbs” starred Tom Hanks, Carrie Fisher, Bruce Dern, Rick Ducommun, and Corey Feldman. In the film, the residents of a suburban neighborhood suspect their new neighbors are ritualistic murderers. Produced by Universal Pictures, the film grossed just over $49 million against a reported budget of $18 million. It is now considered a cult classic.

The official logline for the series states, “Set in present-day suburbia, ‘The ‘Burbs’ follows a young couple returning to the husband’s childhood home.

The Critics Choice Association unveiled the winners of the fifth annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards.

The awards recognize excellence in nonfiction, unscripted, and reality programming across broadcast, cable, and streaming platforms.

RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars, Taste the Nation with Padma Lakshmi, and Top Chef tied with two awards apiece.

If we look at network-by-network numbers, Bravo and Netflix tied for first place with four wins each.

This year’s Critics Choice Real TV Awards honored shows “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars,” “Top Chef,” and “Taste the Nation with Padma Lakshmi,” with each series taking home two awards.

All three shows won in the Best Show Host category, as RuPaul tied with Padma Lakshmi for both “Taste the Nation” and “Top Chef.” “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” took home the award for best ensemble cast in an unscripted series, while “Taste the Nation with Padma Lakshmi” was awarded best structured series and “Top Chef” won best culinary show.

The annual event continues to recognize excellence in nonfiction, unscripted and reality programming across broadcast, cable and streaming platforms.

Lisa Vanderpump was honored with the Impact Award this year and Eugene Levy won Star of the Year. Additionally, Bravo and Netflix were the biggest winners of awards, topping four categories each.

A special program showcasing the winners will premiere on Ktla+ and Ktla.

Given the quantity and quality of reality programming, the Cca launched the Critics Choice Real TV Awards in 2019 to recognize the best in nonfiction, unscripted, and reality shows. In addition to the regular competition categories, this year the Cca honored Lisa Vanderpump with the Impact Award and Eugene Levy was named Star of the Year.

The Critics Choice Association revealed the winners of the fifth annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards, which recognize excellence in nonfiction, unscripted and reality programming.

RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars, Taste the Nation With Padma Lakshmi and Top Chef tied with two awards each. Drag Race won the award for best ensemble cast in an unscripted series, Taste the Nation won best structured series, and Top Chef won best culinary show. RuPaul and Lakshmi tied in the best show host category, which went to the three aforementioned shows. (The most recent season of Top Chef, which concluded June 8, is Lakshmi’s last after she announced she would not be returning as host ahead of the finale.)

Additionally, Lisa Vanderpump was honored with the Impact Award, while Eugene Levy — who hosts Apple TV+’s The Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy, which won best travel/adventure show — won Star of the Year.

Bill Nye is 67 years old now, but in most ways he’s still the same enthusiastic, charming, bow-tied dude who hosted the iconic 1990s series “Bill Nye the Science Guy.” Or you might know him from the Netflix science series “Bill Nye Saves the World.” But the trained mechanical engineer still has lofty goals in working to educate the public about the world of science and how it can spur them to take action to better their lives and save a vulnerable earth. “That’s why I did this show. I wanted to change the world,” Nye says on his ambitious and apocalyptic six-episode Peacock series “The End is Nye,” “I want people to take action.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.

Nye is the co-writer, executive producer and host of the docuseries that’s designed to scare viewers into seizing the opportunity to halt potential disasters before they threaten the planet.

One of the most important lessons Fuzzy Door Productions president Erica Huggins has applied in her career is how to say no.

At the production company Seth MacFarlane founded in 1998, Huggins oversees the creative direction and development process of the company’s feature films and television series. She’s been the executive producer on projects including Peacock’s “Ted” and “The End Is Nye” and Netflix’s new animated take on Norman Lear’s “Good Times.”

A key lesson has been how to champion “material that you really believe you can win with,” she told TheWrap for this week’s Office With a View. “Most people want to hear the truth and sometimes it’s hard to say no to somebody [or] that you like something but you don’t love it, or you don’t know how to push it through the system of development and get it made,” she added.

WME has signed Seth MacFarlane as well as his production company Fuzzy Door. He was previously repped by CAA and continues to be repped by Jackoway Austen and manager Joy Fehily.

MacFarlane is best known for creating “Family Guy,” the animated comedy that has been running on Fox since 1999. He also voices the characters Peter, Stewie and Brian Griffin in the series, which was recently renewed for its 22nd and 23rd season. MacFarlane also co-created the “Family Guy” spinoff “The Cleveland Show,” which ran for four seasons from 2009 to 2014. “Family Guy” has earned MacFarlane five Emmy awards.

Outside of the “Family Guy” universe, MacFarlane also serves as a co-creator and executive producer on “American Dad!,” and voices Stan Smith and Roger. The series began on Fox before moving to TBS, where it concluded its 19th season in December 2022.

MacFarlane is returning to WME after being repped by CAA since 2017.

The show, which aired its 400th episode late last year, has been renewed for its 22nd and 23rd seasons. It has garnered MacFarlane five Emmy Awards, four of which being in the outstanding voice-over performance category, making him a tied record-holder for the most voice-over Emmy wins of all time. MacFarlane also serves as co-creator, executive producer, and voice actor on “American Dad!,” which recently aired its 17th season finale.

Through his company Fuzzy Door Productions, MacFarlane produces TV shows like the long-running Family Guy series on Fox, which has been renewed for its 22nd and 23rd seasons; American Dad!, which has just aired its 17th season finale; Nat Geo and Fox’s Cosmos: Possible Worlds; and The Orville for Hulu.

Fuzzy Door, led by MacFarlane and president Erica Huggins, has over a dozen titles across TV and film. In 2020, the company signed a multi-year, 200 million TV deal with Universal Studio Group. MacFarlane and Huggins, along with senior vp Aimee Carlson, oversee all development and creative direction for the production company’s content creation.
