Willem Dafoe, Mark Ruffalo, Emma Stone, Christopher Abbott, Ramy Youssef, and Jerrod Carmichael in Pauvres Créatures (2023)

Review by manoseimenis

Pauvres Créatures

3/10

Maybe brilliant, but not for me (and others)

Well Lanthimos seems to have Mida's touch. Good for him and everybody who has the courage to sit down for the whole duration of the movie and also understand it. His movies are directed geniously and very complete, but many (and me) could not watch even the first half an hour. Somewhere i read that when you hear too many controversial critics about anything, it is a sign that a genius is involved. For me it is clear that this is the case here, but i belong to the part of people that maybe do not like his approach of his creation, specially the screenplay. In almost all his movies. I am not a fan of Emma either, so this may contribute negatively. I am proud that a fellow Greek made such a rocketing career in Hollywood, but that's it. I do not find it intriguing to sit down and see his movies because maybe I am not able to conceive his genius. On the other hand hand, i do not consider Picasso's Guernica a masterpiece, nor i accept Pollock as a great painter, but i value them as sone extraordinary talents that my mind cannot appreciate. Same with Lanthimos and Poor Things. And almost all his previous movies. Good luck with the movie.
