Engaging, but incomplete and low budget

I can't believe I paid to watch this

The high rating reviews are totally manufactured. No doubt about it. This film is low budget and guess what? It feels cheap and that has a reflection in the acting, the pace and more importantly the infantile, confusing and non-sensical (even for sci-fi!) plot.

At times I felt second hand embarrassment from watching this.

I watched many low budget sci-fi films, badly done, but with a good plot. That is all you have in these situations, just a good story. This film is not one of them.

I really regret having rented this film. I could have use those four quid to buy sleeping pills and I would've had more fun than watching this film.

It aint Source Code or Memento.

I have seen few poorer films ( hate the word movies) than this effort. I realise each viewer will have their own criteria as to what makes a film watchable but surely top of the list would be ; 1. Good acting 2. Decent dialogue 3. A buy in from the viewer regarding the protagonist(s). We should care about them, or hate them.

This film has failed on all counts.

The acting is stilted, with banal verbal interactions and I feel nothing for the characters.

There is no comparison between Breaking Infinity and the two other films in my title for this review which I believe is the target audience. I could easily re watch those two but this one.. Yes, I realise this is a low-budget film but then so were Paranormal Activity, El Mariachi and The Blair Witch Project. The best bit of this film is the Welsh valley scenery.

Only one positive.. at least I saved a pound watching it in SD.

Decent basic time travel film

With the current 4.8 rating here, I'm becoming increasingly disappointed with overall IMDB user reviews, which are showing an entire generation that is becoming so immersed in fast-action, CGI-heavy films that they can no longer appreciate a good, basic story line. This film isn't the best ever made, but it deserves better than the low score we see here.

It is difficult to review this film without spoilers, so what can be safely reviewed is the cinematography (quite beautiful), the sets (done well enough for a sci fi film), the acting (decent on the part of all actors), the music score (which fits well with the story), and the story-line itself... which holds together from the beginning to the end. That story may be a bit over the head of some viewers (quantum entanglement, light / time relationship and universal harmonics), so perhaps that's why some didn't like it. But this is science fiction-- and one should expect a bit of science.

In all the entire film holds together, tells the story, end of show. If there is any flaw in the show it is the paradox of complex concepts mixed with a film that overall is not fleshed out well enough (thus my rating of 7 rather than higher). They really needed to provide a bit more closure in the last 20 minutes, needed to end it tighter, needed to tie a few strings together (even if they're unnecessary to the overall plot).

The relationship between the two main scientists needed to be better-developed, and the romantic relationship better evolved so the viewer can relate better to the two main characters. All films have their flaws.

But despite those flaws the story is decent, the time-travel theme is neither boring nor ridiculous (as we see in so many such films), and the movie has an actual ending rather than just leaving the audience up in the air. These days, that alone deserves a few stars. ;D.

Junk movie with equally junk overly positive reviews

Firstly, do not believe the 10/10 or 9/10 reviews for this movie: it is a low-budget, poorly-acted, and directed, movie with low-quality props that were supposed to give the illusion of a new and radical method to travel through time.

There is no chemistry between the two main characters (Liam and Emma): they come across as unsuited to each other and one questions why Zoe Cunningham was cast in the female protagonist lead role to begin with - oh, wait, she was one of the producers, that must explain it...

Apart from the laughably poor 'acting' by Zoe Cunningham, it was the prop used to represent the control panel for the incredible 'time machine': what looked like a Betamax A/B offline editor with only the power chord plugged into it despite it being easily discernable that the 'control panel' had numerous inputs and outputs that were simply going unused. How did the control panel actually control anything? Maybe this was one of the 'sci-fi' elements the director and producers wished to get across - machinery that operates entirely wirelessly even though the Garret character had to refer to his analogue wristwatch to time events... laughable at best.

And the Garret character themselves: every sentence ended with 'mate'. Every sentence! Now, I am Australian and we do use the word 'mate' a lot, but even we do not finish every utterance with 'mate'.

The movie is a joke and not worth your valuable time. The only grace was that Jonny Phillips who played 'Carter' looked like he knew what he was doing even if that character was pretty stereotypical.

A smart low budget sci fi film that makes the most of what it has

This is one of those smartly written, low budget sci fi films that tackles a big concept on a small budget. The mystery and relationship are interesting and compelling. I was surprised by the twists, but I never felt lost. The acting, writing and direction are all very good. I don't post very often and only when I really like (or dislike) something, and so I was genuinely surprised by the negativity in some of the posts. Maybe it comes down to expectations. This is not an action film. It's a quiet, thoughtful sci fi story with a good little mystery and a nice human relationship at its heart. I enjoyed it.

Confusing and boring.

I enjoy sci fi. It's my favourite genre. I even enjoy bad sci fi. But this movie takes bad to a whole new level.

I could only manage watching half this movie. There may very well have been a logical ending tying in all the confusing bits, but the monotonous pace of the first half made it seem unlikely.

Nobody is acting, they're simply reading their scripts. The ever present clipboard must have been helpful for the doctor in learning her lines. There's no character development. There's certainly no action.

Do yourself a favour and go watch 2012 again. At least that movie is good for a laugh.

It doesn't grab you, at all

Warning - I only got 15 minutes through this till I decided it was no longer worth my time so bear that in mind.

A cool concept maybe but it literally has so many jumps between different scenes it's confusing, but not interesting.

You're given nothing on the characters to make you interested either, the actors have no real chance to show any personality. It starts off in a treatment facility of some kind, and rather than building the interest takes you out of that space, the moment the movie starts to build interest it jumps away from the interest and starts again

The only good thing is the look of the film.

Great movie - really inventive

Just saw the premier at Curzon Soho, Shaftesbury Avenue and really enjoyed it. Inventive and original, great performances in particular by both Neil Bishop and Zoe Cunningham. The premise of the film is interesting and I would recommend this to anyone who likes intelligent and thought provoking science fiction. The film is delivered on a limited budget but all the lead actors make the most of their roles and ensure the film delivers. They are convincing in their characters and they hold the film together by the strength of their performances.

Congratulations to cast and crew for a great production.

Pleasantly Engaging

Rating based on entertainment value not on production extravaganza. Giving it a 9 instead of a 10 only because of the lack of production extravaganza. After all production extravaganza adds to the entertainment value of a production. Plus contributes to the required character count by using phrases in multiple instances using extravaganza four times. Anyway while not big budget extravagant the acting and directing are good and the characters are engaging with good chemistry between the likeable leads. Intriguing premise aptly brought to the screen on an obvious shoe-string budget. Enjoyable satisfying.

Remember the "Time Tunnel"?

This movie is not a blockbuster, nor a super CGI tech feast, nor an action thriller, it is a very simple yet well written study in messing around with time. Similar to the old 1960's TV show "Time Tunnel" with it's almost identical time portal setup, this movie tells of a man who is the victim of an accident in time and his path to fix it before the world ends because of it. It is very low budget, and literally most of the action is in a lab or out near a pile of rocks. Not bad for what you get as far as story and rather good acting. Those who put this down or who were "bored" didn't give it a real chance. It is quite good and if you have a peaceful night to enjoy an engaging film, this does a good job. It does keep you interested if you have the brains to figure out what's going on. Nothing questionable, no nudity, no foul language so its good for everyone that can handle a bit of a mind game. Enjoy!

Big Budget Unnecessary for Big Film

I, too like paul-richmond, saw the premier at Curzon Soho on Shaftesbury Avenue and I agree with everything written in his review. I will add that the magnificent score really added to the tension, when appropriate. There were, also, a few moments of comedy to alleviate the tension. Many congratulations to all involved.

Normally, I like a start, middle and end kind of story but the time travelling cuts of this film were easy to follow and not confusing at all.

It shows a 7 or 8 figure budget is not necessary to produce a very polished film from an excellent script. I look forward to watching it again on release or VOD.

AN EXTREMELY SATISFYING FILM...

...Very polished acting with engaging characters, which says as much about director Dean as it says about the actors. Wonderful production values, cinematography, sound, musical score - My personal bete noire. More and more movies, even high budget ones, have generic scores, Suspenseful chase scene? Let's have pounding in-your-face tension-building music. Romantic scene? Cue the violins.

The music in BREAKING INFINITY enhances the narrative without being on-the-nose.

FX is kept a minimum and is tastefully done.

You'd never guess that this was a low, low budget film.

Pay close attention, as you might not realize exactly what you had been watching until you are walking out of the theatre.

Great film and a wonderful evening.

I just saw Breaking Infinity with my partner Debbie Cotman at The Curzon on Shaftesbury Avenue and we were thoroughly entertained. The actors were brilliant and the story was intriguing and beautiful directed. It was good to get the opportunity to be included in the Q&A after the premiere and my question was will there be a sequel. Well done to everyone involved with the film. I look forward to the next project. A great evening had by all and it was fantastic to see a good turn out to support the film and cast. I would like to thank Zoe for the invite. A good film to see and I wish all the cast the best of luck.
