Bruce Willis might be known for such action hits as Die Hard, Armageddon, The Fifth Element, and The Expendables, but sadly, as his health declined, he appeared in a number of low-budget movies that some say tarnished his legacy. Not Quentin Tarantino, however, who recently defended Willis decision to nab a few quick paychecks shortly before word broke that hed been diagnosed with aphasia, going so far as to say he was "really impressed" by the films.

Speaking on his Video Archives Podcast, Tarantrino admitted to watching at least six of the direct-to-video flicks, including Vice (2015), Trauma Center (2019), and Deadlock (2021), calling them "very easy to watch" and "entertaining." Gil Thorp, the veteran funnies-page high-school coach, is getting new help on the sidelines.

Rachel Merrill takes over the drawing duties on the long-running comic strip, set on the playing fields of the fictional Milford High School starting September 30 — the first time “Gil Thorp” will have been drawn by a new artist in more than 16 years. Kevin James is going from Paul Blart: Mall Cop to ex-cop for Edward Drake’s upcoming action comedy Guns Up. According to The Hollywood Reporter, James plays an ex-cop and family man who moonlights as a mob henchman in the new project. When the job he’s working goes wrong, both of his worlds collide. He’ll need to get his family out of the city with time running out before his dalliance with lawlessness catches up.

With Millennium Media handling world sales, Guns Up will go to the Cannes market to get the word out about Drake’s latest directorial effort. Drake directs from a script he wrote. In addition to helming episodes of HBO’s True Detective, Drake shot the Detective Knight trilogy, Apex, Gasoline Alley, Cosmic Sin, and more. Their third collaboration and the yet-unscheduled Paradise City is still in post-production and stars Pulp Fiction’s John Travolta. Drake described the film to Variety as "pitting Los Angeles' anti-heroes against the forces trusted to protect us."

The Avenue to distribute in US; Highland to launch international sales at TIFF.

Highland Film Group has come on board to co-finance and has acquired worldwide rights to romance One True Loves starring Phillipa Soo from Hamilton, Simu Liu from this week’s Marvel Studios release Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings, and Luke Bracey from Holidate.

Highland will launch international sales at Toronto International Film Festival next week while distribution division The Avenue which launched last year will release in the US.

International distributors will get a first look at action thriller “Gasoline Alley” at the upcoming Cannes Market. The film, which stars Bruce Willis, Luke Wilson and Devon Sawa, is represented by Highland Film Group.

The project was first announced at the European Film Market in Berlin, around the time that it was moving into production. Principal photography has now wrapped after set-ups in multiple U.S. locations.

The action follows a take-no-prisoners kind of company boss, played by Sawa, who is accused of a triple murder in Hollywood. He subsequently allies with the two tough detectives (Willis and Wilson) on his tail. And together they uncover a much larger truth than any one of them had imagined.

“Gasoline Alley” is directed by Edward Drake, who recently directed Willis in “Cosmic Sin.” The screenplay is by Tom Sierchio (“The Girl Who Invented Kissing”).

Corey Large and Sierchio are producing the film with BondIt Media Capital financing.

Saban Films has landed the North American distribution rights to the upcoming action thriller “Gasoline Alley.”

The film — written, directed and produced by Edward Drake — is led by Bruce Willis, Devon Sawa and Luke Wilson. Set in the underbelly of Los Angeles, Sawa plays a man drawn into a high-profile triple murder. The two police detectives on his tail (Willis and Wilson) soon join him in attempting to uncover an explosive conspiracy.

The project, also produced by Corey Large, is eyeing a February 2022 release. BondIt Media Capital, 308 Ent, Highland Film Group and Yale Productions are also producers. This is the latest in numerous collaborations between Willis and Saban, which released films like “Paradise City,” “Cosmic Sin” and “Breach.”

Festival honourees, feature line-up, Q&a’s to be announced later this year.

The 22nd Annual Newport Beach Film Festival (Nbff) will return as a live event in California from October 21-28, 2021.

The festival will open with a red carpet premiere screening followed by an outdoor celebration. Throughout the eight-days there will be world premieres, after parties, filmmaker Q&As and other special events.
