We've never really thought about what a Robert Eggers and James Cameron collaboration would look like. That is, until the bizarre, Lovecraftian horror sci-fi mash-upCold Skin came across the screen. Released in 2017 and directed by Xavier Gens, and based on the novel by Albert Sánchez Piñol, this wonderfully layered movie stars the criminally underrated Ray Stevenson (Kill the Irishman), David Oakes, and Aura Garrido as they take us on a wild ride. Cold Skin is equal parts The Lighthouse, Avatar: The Way of Water, and Francis Lawrence's I Am Legend. Now imagine all those movies baked together on less than 10% of the budget that Eggers, Cameron, and Lawrence typically have to work with, and you've got this turbocharged horror thriller that's a blast to watch on a Saturday night. Only a cosmic guru like H.P. Lovecraft could have possibly conjured up this half-horror/half-sci-fi diamond in the rough. Let's...

Pierre Morel, the director behind the huge action movie hit Taken which transformed Oscar nominee Liam Neeson into a bona fide action hero, returns to the genre with the new trailer for the Amazon Prime Video action thriller Canary Black (2024). Tony Lo Bianco, the Brooklyn actor who oozed criminal charm in the gritty 1970s New York City dramas The French Connection and The Seven-Ups, has died. He was 87.
Lo Bianco died Tuesday night of prostate cancer at his horse farm in Poolesville, Maryland, his wife, Alyse, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Lo Bianco was also memorable as a smooth-talking con man with a lonely nurse (Shirley Stoler) for a girlfriend/accomplice in Leonard Kastle’s documentary-style The Honeymoon Killers (1970), which Francois Truffaut once said was his favorite American film.
In another cult classic, the horror thriller God Told Me To (1976), directed by Larry Cohen, Lo Bianco starred as a New York cop who investigates a series of bizarre murders orchestrated by the leader of a religious group (Richard Lynch).

John Boyega wants to discuss the good book with you. Which book am I talking about? The Book of Eli, of course! Whispers around the watercooler imply that Boyega is prepping a prequel series based on 2010’s The Book of Eli. According to Deadline, Boyega will play a younger version of Eli, the character played by Denzel Washington in the Albert Hughes and Allen Hughes-directed film. Adding authenticity to the project is The Book of Eli writer Gary Whitta, who will create/write/executive produce the upcoming prequel series. The Book of Eli prequel series comes from Alcon Entertainment. They’ll bring the show to market to land a premium streaming venue.
In The Book of Eli, a drifter fights across a ravaged, post-apocalyptic America while protecting a sacred book that holds the secrets to humanity’s salvation. The story takes place 30 years after a nuclear catastrophe resulting in an ecocide.

In the 15 years since Ahsoka Tano was first introduced in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, she has appeared in many other shows like Star Wars: Rebels, The Mandalorian, and most recently The Book of Boba Fett. Her wit, Force-wielding skills, and her desire to do good for the Galaxy even after leaving the Jedi Order have made her a fan-favorite character with fans eager to see her in a solo series.
Because Ahsoka has been involved in so many eras throughout Star Wars history from The Clone Wars to the New Republic, there are plenty of characters, both familiar and otherwise, that we can expect to see throughout the series. Ahsoka will feature the return of several Rebels and Clone Wars characters, as well as the introduction of new characters we haven’t yet seen in canon before.

Gangster movies often have a dedicated audience, but some great films in the genre fail to perform well at the box office. Movies like "The Hot Rock" and "The Outfit" suffered financially, despite their unique stories and talented performances. "Scarface" and "Miller's Crossing" faced challenges including bans and competition, resulting in disappointing box office results.
While gangster movies rarely fail since they don't require huge budgets (and there's almost always an audience for them), that doesn't mean there haven't been a few that bombed at the box office. The gangster genre has always held a certain allure, pulling in huge crowds with fascinating tales of crime, control, and corruption. The best mob movies shine a spotlight on unique criminal underworlds, some of which are based on true stories, and they almost always have immoral but still lovable lead characters. Whether it's Goodfellas or The Godfather, many of the movies considered...

Easily the most anticipated Star Wars series of 2023 is the upcoming Ahsoka show on Disney+. Starring Rosario Dawson as the iconic character that debuted in 2008's Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the show is adjacent to The Mandalorian and is set after Return of the Jedi. Several classic characters from throughout the franchise are making their return in Ahsoka, but there's one character whose presence will be part of a notable actor's swan song.
Ray Stevenson portrays one of the characters in Ahsoka, with the show being the first release featuring the departed actor since his death in May 2023. Given his pedigree, the hype surrounding the series itself and the fact that it's a posthumous performance, many fans want to know just who he plays and how it relates to the galaxy far, far away. Ray Stevenson died on location in Italy this week while working on the film Cassino in Ischi. In it, he plays Nic Cassino, who appears to be the title character. But throughout his career the actor was renowned for strong supporting roles. Stevenson exemplified this “one for all” spirit as Porthos in The Three Musketeers (2011) and honed it through The Book of Eli (2010), King Arthur (2004), the Thor movies, and the upcoming Star Wars Disney+ series, Ashoka. He was at his most supportive, even as a lead character, when he played legionnaire Titus Pullo in HBO’s Rome. Pullo was a warrior with a heart of gold, but at one point he could also be the second-hand-man to an early version of a mob kingpin.
But Stevenson was second to no one in the role of Danny Greene, the titular character of writer-director Jonathan Hensleigh’s 2011 gangster-genre love letter, Kill the Irishman.

Liam Neeson’s unexpected yet remarkably durable second act as a grizzled action star isn’t showing any signs of slowing down, and each one of his modest hits makes it that much easier to imagine the 69-year-old actor will be able to keep this up for many years to come. His secret? Efficiency. If Neeson broke into the world of mid-budget, low-rent beat-em-ups as a gangly brawler who was ready to go anywhere and fight anyone in order to rescue his daughter, his subsequent contributions to the genre were a lot more sedentary.
Movies like “Non-Stop” and “Run All Night” tried to hide that fact behind their titles — even “The Commuter” promised a greater degree of movement than it ultimately delivered — but Neeson’s more recent efforts have stopped trying to disguise that skewed ratio between intensity and exertion. Liam Neeson comes to Netflix as a recently fired trucker who's enlisted for the dangerous drive. The Ice Road has its fair share of clichés, but also surprises with several unexpected twists. The tension remains taut throughout as the perspective switches back and forth from the trapped miners to the frozen road.
The story begins at a diamond mine near the arctic circle in Canada. René Lampard (Holt McCallany) goes underground to check methane readings in tunnel six. As he berates the miners for lax safety procedures, a methane pocket explodes and traps twenty-six men under tons of rubble. Mining Executive George Sickle (Matt McCoy) sees the explosion from his office. The company launches rescue operations, but cannot get to the miners.

The idea of marrying the reality-tv staple “Ice Road Truckers” with the suspense classic “The Wages of Fear” — about long-haul drivers trying to get through treacherous mountain roads with a payload of nitroglycerin — isn’t a bad one in theory. In practice, however, “The Ice Road” is so often inept and heavy-handed that not even the reliable presence of Liam Neeson can rescue it.
Neeson has become a genre unto himself in recent years, starring in one movie after another about a regular guy (with a special set of skills) who finds himself in extraordinary circumstances. (This latest is his second in 2021 alone.) But while the Irish actor reliably hits both his marks and the bad guys, he’s doing so in a film that’s leadenly predictable when it’s not unintentionally laugh-out-loud funny.
Some of those laughs come from the screenplay by director Jonathan Hensleigh (“Kill the Irishman”), which trots out chestnuts like,...

As if the Frozen North hadn’t already given him enough grief in “The Grey” and “Cold Pursuit,” Liam Neeson is back for more chilly punishment with “The Ice Road.” Jonathan Hensleigh’s first feature as writer-director since “Kill the Irishman” a decade ago has the star as one of three drivers making a dangerous journey to deliver equipment needed to rescue trapped miners in Northern Manitoba.
Just about every possible peril turns up to thwart their mission en route, making for an increasingly implausible action movie that will entertain most viewers, but also perhaps make them feel a bit played for fools. In the U.S., it’s going straight to Netflix on June 25, while other distributors are handling theatrical and/or online release in numerous other territories over the coming weeks.

Netflix has released the first trailer for The Ice Road. This is the latest action flick with Liam Neeson at the center of it. Neeson was once a man known for his more serious roles in movies such as Schindler's List, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and Gangs of New York. But Taken changed all of that more than a decade ago, altering the course of his career entirely. Now, he's one of Hollywood's go-to action guys. In this case, Neeson is in the harsh snow-covered terrain of Canada. Instead of carving out a path of revenge, he's going full-on Ice Road Truckers for a treacherous rescue mission packed with action and danger.
The trailer opens up with a massive avalanche that devastates a mine, trapping the men who were working inside. Mother nature caused a cave-in, leaving the workers with little hope of rescue. Enter Liam Neeson. He is...

Liam Neeson has joined another action adventure film! This one is called The Ice Road, which is being written and directed by Jonathan Hensleigh.
Neeson will play “a ‘big-rig’ ice road driver who, after a remote diamond mine collapses in the far northern regions of Canada, must lead an impossible rescue mission over a frozen ocean to save the trapped miners. Contending with thawing waters and a massive storm, they discover the real threat is one they never saw coming.”
Yep, that sure sounds like the kind of movie Liam Neeson would sign up for! Producers Al Corley and Bart Rosenblatt had this to say in a statement:
“We are thrilled and fortunate to be working with the extraordinary talents of Liam Neeson and Jonathan Hensleigh and the outstanding creative team they have assembled on this breathtaking adventure story.”

Our good friend actor Robert Davi has a sensational second career as a crooner. His Sinatra tribute show is getting rave reviews and the Huffington Post called him "a legend in the making". Now Davi has just released a wonderful new single on CD. New York City Christmas calls to mind the kind of unapologetically old-fashioned, sentimental holiday songs you just don't hear anymore. If you haven't heard him sing, you're in for a real treat.(We love that cover art by Steve Penley). Here is the official press release:
