Rick Moranis was already a celebrated comedic actor when he made his big-screen debut in 1983's "Strange Brew." After getting his start as a disc jockey in Toronto during the 1970s, he exhibited a gift for improv comedy, which prompted his pal Dave Thomas to ask him to join the cast of the cult-favorite sketch show "Sctv." Moranis was a perfect fit. Not only did he strike up a natural, uproarious chemistry with Thomas in their "Great White North" skits, he proved to be a devastatingly hilarious impressionist. His Woody Allen in the note-perfect parody "Play It Again, Bob" (opposite Thomas as Bob Hope) was spot-on, as was his David Brinkley (particularly when he sparred with Thomas' Walter Cronkite on "Point Counterpoint"). His original characters were amazing as well, with DJ Gerry Todd, a "video technology" enthusiast, becoming one of the show's most reliably funny kooks.

Father’s Day is coming up, and it’s a bittersweet holiday for me because my dad died ten years ago, right before Father’s Day.
As we all know, father-child relationships have long been a staple of many television shows.
We’ve watched TV dads guide their children, impart wisdom, and leave behind legacies. We are remembering some of the great late TV dads this Father’s Day.

Some died nearly 20 years ago, and some passed away recently.
But their deaths crushed us, and they won’t be forgotten.

Jake Borelli, best known for playing Dr. Levi Schmitt on “Grey’s Anatomy,” is moving behind the camera and making his directorial debut on “Ignis.”
Described as a “genre-bending relationship drama,” the film stars Britt Baron (“Glow”), Allen Leech (“Downton Abbey”) and Karan Soni (“A Nice Indian Boy”). “Ignis” recently wrapped production in Los Angeles.
The film was written and co-produced by Tony Award-winning producer Julie Cohn (“Stereophonic”), who also wrote the popular podcast “The Redefector.” It follows Camille, a woman who begins to question her relationship after discovering that her fiancé may have taken a pill designed to chemically induce romantic love.
“As an actor, I’ve always been drawn to the emotional undercurrents that make us human. With ‘Ignis,’ I wanted to explore those same currents — but this time, from the director’s chair,” Borelli said in a statement. “This story is about love, but also about truth,...

Miles Heizer is heading to the front lines in Boots. Inspired by former US Marine Greg Cope White’s memoir The Pink Marine, the upcoming eight-episode drama series hails from creator, co-showrunner Andy Parker and showrunner Jennifer Cecil.
Set in 1990, Boots follows charming underdog Cameron Cope (Heizer), a bullied, gay high school student who impulsively joins the Marine Corps with his straight best friend, Ray (Liam Oh), in hopes that he’ll finally be made into a “real man.” It’s a dangerous move at a time when being gay in the military meant a prison sentence or worse. The two friends plunge into Marine Corps boot camp — amid both literal and metaphorical land mines — joining a platoon of young men on a harrowing journey of transformation.

Night of the Living Dead, the horror classic that birthed the modern zombie genre, is getting a reboot, and writer Latoya Morgan has now confirmed that the screenplay is complete. With rising filmmakerNikyatu Jusu attached to direct, the project is one of the most anticipated horror reimaginings in recent memory. Originally released in 1968 and directed by the legendary godfather of zombies, George A. Romero, Night of the Living Dead broke ground for its depiction of a zombie outbreak. Now, more than five decades later, this new sequel, which seeks to restart the franchise, promises to carry that legacy forward.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Morgan, known for her work on The Walking Dead, Into the Badlands, and Parenthood, gave an update about the soon-to-be-released reboot, revealing that the script is ready from her end and the project is awaiting a go-ahead from Amazon MGM. Given its title, you might expect the new Max streaming series Duster to race along at a fast and furious pace. However, while it’s not adrenaline-fueled, it delivers a healthy dose of grit, charm, and steady tension, making it a ride worth every mile.
Much of that credit goes to the two charismatic leads: one, rediscovering the magic that made him a star nearly two decades ago; the other, a young actress finally taking center stage with a breakout performance. Duster is cool, sexy, and enthralling, though it takes a few too many episodes to work out most of its kinks.

NBC has picked up freshman drama series The Hunting Party, starring Melissa Roxburgh, and Brilliant Minds, headlined by Zachary Quinto, for a second season. Both are part of the network’s September-October fall schedule unveiled today. Brilliant Minds, from Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Prods, is staying in the post-The Voice Monday 10 Pm slot while The Hunting Party, from Universal Television, is moving to Thursdays 10 Pm.
Besides the five Dick Wolf series, The Hunting Party and Brilliant Minds are the only other current NBC series to make it to next season amid a bloodbath at the broadcast network which canceled a slew of scripted series in anticipation of NBA’s arrival on the schedule next fall.
This is a changing of the guard in NBC’s scripted lineup as all four non-Wolf returning scripted series are from this season’s freshman class, The Hunting Party, Brilliant Minds and comedies St.

Ready for a wild ride? That's what J.J. Abrams’ Duster looks like it's going to deliver, with high-stakes action, gritty drama, and a compelling story set against the backdrop of 1970s America. Slated to premiere on Max on May 15, here's everything you need to know about this new original series.
Ordered by Max in 2023, Duster is described as a crime thriller. It's created by Abrams and Latoya Morgan. You might know Abrams for co-creating shows such as Felicity, Lost and Fringe. He also created the beloved TV show Alias, which starred Jennifer Garner in the leading role. Morgan, on the other hand, is known for writing for shows like Parenthood, Shameless, Into the Badlands and The Walking Dead. With these two talented creatives at the helm, I'd say Duster is in very capable hands.
Now, let's take a look at the thrilling, action-packed trailer for a sneak peek of what's to come!

I didn’t think I’d ever be into ranch dramas, and then Yellowstone rode in, courtesy of Taylor Sheridan. Moral ambiguity, land and conquest, family dynamics and power struggles, betrayal. For someone who’s a certified simp for Game of Thrones, I loved Yellowstone. But then Netflix dropped Ransom Canyon, and folks, I’m questioning all my life choices. I can’t pay my money for this now.
Where Yellowstone gave me GoT–level stuff, Ransom Canyon delivers Hallmark vibes in cowboy boots and not the good kind. It’s way too sanitized for a genre built on grit and grime. If this is Netflix’s answer to Yellowstone, in true Barbara Corcoran style, I’m out.

Let’s cut to the chase: I love a good ranch drama. Yellowstone was an instant obsession.

Fire Country is making some extreme moves. Not only did the franchise shock fans by writing two main characters off the show during the season 3 finale, but it has continued to add compelling stars to its upcoming spinoff, Sheriff Country.
Sheriff Country is a spinoff that will be led by previously established character Mickey Fox (Morena Baccarin). The closer we've gotten to the show's 2025-26 premiere, however, the more impressive the list of actors involved has grown. The latest addition is Matt Lauria, who is confirmed to be playing the male lead of Sheriff Country opposite Fox.

If you're friendly with a fan of the network television procedural "9-1-1," give them a little extra space this week. The series — created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear — just slammed a couple of torpedoes into the hearts of its viewers by unexpectedly killing off Peter Krause's Lafd Captain Bobby Nash at the end of the season 8 episode "Lab Rats." Nash, along with his wife Athena Grant-Nash (Angela Bassett), has been the series' emotional ballast. He's the steadying influence who keeps the young bucks from faltering in their duty (as much as possible). Also, because it's Krause, a television favorite due to his memorable roles on "Six Feet Under," "Sports Night," and "Parenthood," the shock is particularly profound. How does the show, this hidebound to narrative convention (in a necessary way), go on without its dramatic security blanket?

CBS is adding to its roster of new series for the 2025-26 season, giving series orders to two pilots: a drama titled Einstein and a comedy called Dmv.
Einstein, from Monk creator Andy Breckman, stars Criminal Minds alum Matthew Gray Gubler as the title character, alongside Rosa Salazar. Dmv, a single-camera comedy set at a motor vehicle office, is led by Harriet Dyer and Tim Meadows. Both shows come from CBS Studios.
The two series orders are the first from CBS’ crop of development projects this season. They join fellow newcomers Sheriff Country, which the network ordered last year, and straight-to-series pickups Boston Blue and CIA. All three of the previous orders are offshoots of current or recently ended CBS shows — Fire Country, Blue Bloods and FBI, respectively.
Along with the series orders, CBS also announced that it has canceled its comedy Poppa’s House and competition show The Summit, both after a single season.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for Thursday’s episode of “9-1-1″ on ABC.
ABC’s “9-1-1” broke long-running TV procedural precedent this week by killing off not just a main character, but the show’s leading male actor: Captain Bobby Nash, played by “Six Feet Under” and “Parenthood” alum Peter Krause.
Rumors have been swirling about Krause’s potential exit for the past few weeks following images surfacing across social media of the “9-1-1” crew shooting a large-scale funeral scene in downtown Los Angeles. After eight seasons and nine years playing captain of Lafd’s Station 118, Krause understands the impact Bobby’s death will have on viewers who were already suspicious his time was up.
“I’ve heard that many fans are upset by this loss and they have a right to be. It is a loss,” Krause said in a statement on Thursday. “That said, it was...

The Star Trek franchise has welcomed hundreds of guest stars, perhaps even 1,000 or more, since The Original Series debuted in 1966. We all have one show that, if given the chance, we'd ask for it not to be cancelled. For longtime fans of Gilmore Girls and Amy Sherman-Palladino, that show tends to be Bunheads. The show ran for a singular season from 2012-2013 when everyone was still reeling from the conclusion of Gilmore Girls five years prior. While many fans knew that it would be unlikely to have the same spirit as Gilmore Girls, with star Lauren Graham on Parenthood and her being such a huge part of Gilmore Girls' success, fans were hungry for Asp's next project. She'd left Gilmore Girls at the end of Season 6, resulting in a mixed bag of fan feelings for Season 7.
Sherman-Palladino is once again trying her hand at the world of ballet with her upcoming show, Étoile, which looks to have a much different tone than the dramedy-esque tone of Bunheads, but it...

Let’s talk about Jonah Platt—the name that might make you think hard, and yet come up with “who’s that?” Well, he’s the Hollywood nepo baby who shockingly slipped through the cracks, instead of getting showered with golden opportunities, despite having a father like Marc Platt. Yes, the same guy who produced films like La La Land and Disney’s Snow White.

HBO's Green Lanternseries has added another face, this time from a new television drama that has been making waves in the ratings scene. Set in the DC Universe, Lanterns follows Aaron Pierrer and Kyle Chandler as John Stewart and Hal Jordan, respectively, as they investigate a murder in the American heartland. If a new report is to be trusted, then one of the cast members from the hit CBS remake Matlock is set to join the first live-action series from the Dcu.
According to The InSneider, Jason Ritter has joined Lanterns and will play the husband of Kelly Macdonald's character, Sheriff Kerry, who was previously described as "a no-nonsense woman deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town." It's unclear how significant Ritter's role will be, but there is a chance there is more than meets the eye as the Green Lantern duo looks to solve an alien conspiracy.

Some actors win Primetime Emmys like rolling out of bed (like Allison Janney or Julia Louis-Dreyfus). Others are frequently nominated but have shockingly never won (like Steve Carell or Hugh Laurie). Then there are those who devote much of their careers to TV without ever sniffing a nod. Courteney Cox, for instance, was the only member of the core sextet on Friends never to be nominated for the show. Lauren Graham went from Gilmore Girls to Parenthood, but the TV Academy never took notice. And Kristen Bell has been a TV star for more than 20 years on multiple shows that have garnered awards buzz — even major nominations. But the attention has never gone her way. For Bell, her fortunes should finally change with Nobody Wants This.
Bell had a breakthrough year in 2004, with a two-episode arc during the first season of Deadwood and then debuted as the title character on Veronica Mars.

Nepo babies have been around as long as there have been artists. The idea of a "legacy" is one we humans simply cannot get away from. As storytelling beings, we will have always constructed -- and will continue to construct -- broad, historical, intergenerational narratives for ourselves. We can't stop tracing our professional and personal origins among the ancients, and writing their stories directly into our own. We simply shed our fascination with the possibility that talents can be passed from one generation to the next.
That's certainly the case in Hollywood, a relatively recent art institution in human history, but still rife with its own multigenerational legacies. It's likely you read the headline above and instantly thought of the Coppola clan. The Coppola family has, as of this writing, accrued 12 Oscar wins and 40 nominations between them, and they currently hold the record for the family with the most members to be nominated for Oscars.

Hollywood has seen a lot of actors and actresses finding more than just onscreen chemistry as they fell in love offscreen too, with some of them even going to become some of the entertainment industry’s most beloved power couples of all time. One of these is none other than Jason Ritter and Melanie Lynskey’s pair, who are a bit too heartwarming to not talk about.

For one that met more than a decade ago, the wholesome couple is still going as strong as ever, and Ritter would, in fact, still fight for his wife if the situation calls for it, as he recently hilariously made clear. Sometimes it feels like Ron Howard has been around forever. The actor/director, who was born on March 1, 1954, has been a star in TV and movies for over 65 years. From his early days playing Andy Griffith‘s son Opie on “The Andy Griffith Show” to his directing of the latest “Star Wars” story, “Solo,” the unassuming Howard still finds himself the center of attention.
Now primarily known as a director, Howard has won two Academy Awards — for producing and directing 2001’s Best Picture winner “A Beautiful Mind” starring Russell Crowe — and has two more nominations to his credit for producing and directing 2008 nominee “Frost/Nixon” starring Michael Sheen and Frank Langella.
Let’s take a photo gallery tour of his 17 greatest feature films, ranked from worst to best. Keep in mind that our gallery strictly focuses on his directing career and leaves out his terrific work as an actor in movies.

When German director Frédéric Hambalek first started writing What Marielle Knows, he had no children. By the time the film finally made it to screen, premiering in competition at the Berlin International Film Festival, he had two. As it turned out, Parenthood would shape the film unexpectedly.
In the high-concept dark dramedy, Hambalek carries out a social experiment. The titular teenage girl (played by Laeni Geiseler, a revelation) receives telepathic powers after she’s smacked in the face by her best friend. Suddenly, Marielle has the power to see and hear what her mother, Julia (Julia Jentsch), and father, Tobias (Felix Kramer), are doing, whether they’re off at work, sneaking a smoke and flirting with office colleagues, or engaging in pillow talk in the bedroom with the door closed. Suddenly, under 24/7 observation, Tobias and Julia are forced to confront their hypocrisies and contradictions.

Steve Martin is a ludicrously talented human being. He's a brilliant stand-up comedian, a fine actor, a skilled magician, a masterful humorist (that means he's funny when he writes), an art collector of tremendous discernment and, above all, an assassin with the banjo. He's gone from being an entertainment phenomenon best known for singing about King Tut to an entertainment phenomenon best known for making mirth with Martin Short. In between, he wrote and starred in classic comedy films like "The Jerk," "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid," "The Man with Two Brains," "Roxanne," "L.A. Story" and "Bowfinger," and just plain old acted in "Three Amigos," "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels," and "Parenthood."
Steve Martin is a national treasure (just watch his "Steve! (martin) a documentary in 2 pieces" documentary on Apple+ if you don't believe me). He deserves the very best in life. So why, oh why, has he...
