The overproduced - Hunter whining and being entitled stuff - should not be the focus of season 2. Fans of these gold rush shows want to see underdog stories, tech, machines, fixes, animated gfx on how this stuff works, techniques and a small dash of the relationships of the people that work so hard. I can feel the producers behind the camera pushing narratives with this one. I like rooting for the fam, but don't need the Season 2 episodes 1&2 stuff with Hunter.
Season 1 was great, got me excited for season 2 and conquering this new territory. But so far season 2 I had to change my rating from a 9 to a 6 for the show.

Todd Hoffman, is a bit of a narcissist. He know just enough to think he knows it all, and in reality he is a completely clueless when it comes to mining. He insists on running the equipment when ever anything crucial is about to take place, and he is simply a terrible operator. He has no clue how to lean on the expertise of his crew, he keeps doing the most basic mistakes. He does not know the basics of running machines, maintenance, capabilities, risk factors. He does exactly the wrong things, at precisely the wrong times. This makes him really entertaining to watch though, since he keeps doing the same insanely stupid things over and over.
If he fails at something, he is always blaming the equipment, and the persons standing closest to him.
He has this weird idea, that the only thing that held him back in the past was the quality of the equipment.
But no, It was the naivety of a toddler, falling for scams, and going on wild goose chases without realizing his own limitations.
Luck, will only get you this far. IF he'd hired actual miners to RUN his mine, he would be a success.
But yeah, to sum it up, it's hilarious to see him elaborate and go on about things completely unrelated to the problems he is facing, as if he knows what he's talking about. He has the audacity of talking down the people who actually has half a clue.

I'm getting tired of hearing that this is Jacks final year when everyone knows that he will decide to come back. Jack has a nerve to blame Andy for the run off problem when he has been nothing but a screw up himself!! Last time I checked Andy never knocked over a wash plant like Jack did in South America!!
Jack needs to get over himself and just wash gold, that is the simplest job you can have! Jack is a grandpa and he should just concentrate on being that and nothing more because his contributions to the Hoffman effort has been minimal at best!
Thurber needs to man up and stop crying all the freaking time, that is also getting old!!

Hunter at age 22 if you want Todd's respect then earn it. You basically demanded that you get your own washplant and Todd pay for it. You walking around demanding stuff go your way while you wear a cowboy hard hat with a damn toothpick out your mouth make you look stupid. Grow up and act like a man right now you come across as a rich spoiled brat and for that action you get no respect. You want to make your own calls then get out from under your dad's checkbook and earn it by working. Look at the gold miners that have successful gold mines like Tony Beets, Parker to name a couple. Their success hasn't come easy but what they have they worked hard and earned it. I'd love to see you work for Tony Beets a couple months or Parker for a couple months. Well that is if you made it that long without whining and getting yourself fired.

I'm not really surprised this gold digger show gets a lower rating on here. The reason for that are the highly religious people that get offended by the Hoffmans praying for more gold instead of world peace or something else more obvious. I as a convinced atheist find it highly entertaining. And yes the Hoffmans are by far the worst goldminers ever but do we really want to watch success all the time? I take great pleasure in watching them trying and not giving up. The times Todd Hoffman said "I guarantee you..." are countless and it's funny when the exact opposite happens. I will watch all the other seasons that will come, it's just too entertaining to skip it.

Over produced, they literally shut down a plant to add drama to the show. They would have blown past 300 Oz if they worked 100%. I'm also convinced this show is just to launch his son hunter. Hunter is a massive tool, knows nothing about mining. Should just give Freddie , and Juan that time slot. Freddie and Juan are awesome.

I have been waiting for Todd and crew to get back in action. I have not watched Gold Rush since Todd left. Oh, yes, I watched a few episodes here and there but it wasn't the same. Can't wait for season 2.

And you keep thinking you know better, please all the yrs of experience listen or GET OFF THE SHOW !!! Discovery ENOUGH with the drama of this child please. Being a team means all pitching in and listening and every week he pulls this bs enough enough.

This show is about completing something that was left up in the air. When they quit, I was really rooting for a comeback and this show is it. I love the vibe of the new show and it's perfect to focus just on the Hoffman team. The guys know what they are doing and I have a feeling this is going to work for them. Here is a prediction :) I think they will end up reaching the goal and go over.
The operation is much smaller compared with what they did in the past, so no brainer, they will get it going and keep it going till they reach the target.
Who can fault people for trying and trying again. The show just acknowledges these guys are not quitters. I will look forward in seeing the whole thing and I wish them good luck.

Hello I'm Todd and I couldn't find a flake of gold in the Fort Knox bullion room with a metal detector, James Bond's gold finger pointing the way and an army of Middle-earth dwarves. I have proven this year after year on Gold Rush and am now going to show y'all yet again. Missed my sad grumpy little dward bearded face looking upset at yet another clean up? Fear now.. I'm here now.
But anyway I'm happy to take Discovery's $50,000 per episode for y'all to see what a useless miner and businessman I am and how badly I treat my staff. But I'll do it with a prayer and help from God.
No he hasn't given up on me!
Now let us pray.

I like the show overall. They need to focus on the stories of all involved. There is too much drama between Todd and his son. We get a small clip of the good relationship and humor between Todd's son and his brother. Why not more of this for the norm? Also, people complain of Todd's son being whiney and disrespectful. This is true, but let's compare this to a young Parker. I remember when Parker couldn't keep any employees because he acted like a spoiled brat. He grew and now is a good mine boss. I think Todd's son has the same potential. He just needs time to learn from his mistakes. We learned in season 1 he ran a successful business, I think running is own plant is the right call for growth, but perhaps wrong timing with so much on the line.

Well, after Todd's horrendous time on Gold Rush with failure after failure, poor decision after poor decision for some reason he's been given another chance. Why? I have no idea.
All I can say is I'm looking forward to seeing this show flop on it's face much like Todd's mining career did.
Same setup as Gold Rush so there's not really much to review when you've seen it all before.

I dont get the hate. The show was interesting and episodes were entertaining. Another great spinoff. I cannot wait for season 2. All the haters moaning, get a new hobby because you're talking rubbish!
I still remember watching the Hoffmans start the very first season of gold rush and I thought it was such a great i dea for a show. The show evolved and new miners came in and started making the show a great piece of entertainment. Through it all though it exposed the Todd's lack of leadership, knowledge and willing to get dirty himself. Hopefully things are different for them on this show but the problem isn't the gold we know its in the ground, its the people looking for it and trying to mine it that are scatter brained.

Feels like some of the reviewers didn't watch more than a couple of the first episodes. I didn't like the Hoffmans going into it, but this show turns out to be a welcomed break from regular "Gold Rush" with several likable characters I wanna follow. Hope there's a next season!

That kid with the toothpick in his mouth all the time makes this unwatchable. They are terrible miners. They added a second wash plant after they started, but didn't increase their goal for the season. That makes no sense. Even if they reach their original goal, they increased their costs exponentially. Not the brightest bunch. We fast forward most of it since the editing room decided to put it together in such a way that they repeat themselves multiple times an episode. Must have been hard finding anything exciting in the footage they filmed.
We'll continue to watch it (fast-forwarding a lot) because it's funny watching people repeat the same mistakes while expecting different results.

I enjoy the gold Rush series, however, I cannot stand Hunter Hoffman. He is a complete idiot who knows absolutely nothing about gold mining. He's walking around a construction site with a cowboy hat/hardhat with a toothpick in his mouth. Trying to look cool. If he were my son, I would have to put him in his place a long time ago. I give Todd credit for having so much patience with his idiot son. I wish the Hoffmans the best, but if they want to make it in gold mining, they seriously need to consider getting rid of Hunter . I have no patience for entitled spoiled brats, who think they know more than what they really know.
The original gold rush is so boring without hoffman wow parker mines more wow beats mines more wow we beat are records "not slucing losing money"
This is much more entertaining all these 1 star reviews are so emotional probably did not even watch the show just think they are smarter. Its seemed like these people actully hate him even being on tv i find that very funny.
I personaly love that he keept going even after all those failures. Even if he has more failures it makes for better viewing than smothe sailing here the gold weighing actully seems important unlike on the original Gold Rush gets to that point where you dont care about it.

I've been a big fan of all the Gold shows on Discovery. I know they are scripted to a degree, or at the very least heavily edited. You are still able to believe they are really mining for gold on the other shows. This show feels completely staged! When you are trying to convince your audience that it's 18 degrees out. Don't just have on a long sleeve shirt with a puffy vest, with NO ICE anywhere to be seen and... your breath isn't even steaming! You can start to see your breath when temps hit the low 40's for crying out loud.
If you want to do another gold show. Do another gold show, just make sure you are filming people who actually mining for gold next time.

I don't watch this series for any other reason than get entertained.
If it goes well for the Hoffman's I just send my gratulations to them.
But when they not have proven to be to good att goldmining there's a good chance they are going home empty...
I actually prefer this kind of goldmining story than what Gold Rush has became. Parker's and Tony Beets are just booring. It's just an industry with no soul Therese days.
The pleasure for watching these shows are the struggling to find gold and hitting it big! Not to look at rock trucks going in an endless circle with some breakdowns.
How many more time should we watch big red moving around. Just plain booring!!!
Hoffman's is much more entertaining. Looking forward to the next season if it will be one...

Who is the worst? This mine owner Jason could well be a dumber miner then Todd. He had a crew there that had now cleaned any gold. Trucks and wash plants that are falling apart. Water lines patched with duct tape what a laugh.

Improvements since Gold Rush:
*no more Jesus talk and how he blesses them with gold
* no more tapping helmets
*solid storyline
* not competing with and getting his ass kicked by Parker
*although surrounded by some excellent people they continue to struggle, which makes it watchable.
*no Tony Beets. No explanation necessary.
Unlike some ...I'm rating the show, not the Hoffman's performance as miners. For me it's a show. I'm not a Todd Hoffman fan from Gold Rush as I cheered on his failures of which made it watchable. Gold Rush has struggled finding a replacement for Todd ever since.
Getting that friend of Parker's, the military guy on the show was a bigger disaster to watch than Todd. Horrible. But watchable to a degree as he surrounded himself with misfits and homeless people it appeared. Unlike Todd, his failures were quite predictable.
No I don't mind Hoffman Gold as it's ten times better watching the Beets family on Gold Rush. For the last few seasons I actually fast forward past their segments being tired of Tony's filthy assed mouth.

I love the Discovery Channel. So many good shows. But they really missed the mark here by bringing back the Hoffman Family. Not only have the Hoffman's failed miserably in the past, Todd is a know it all and a bully. This show is a case of the blind leading the blind. I can't imagine that the Hoffman's will be successful in finding any meaningful amount of gold based on previous shows, but find myself not even interested in finding out if I'm wrong. I sincerely doubt that this "friend" contacted the Hoffman's for help. If I were the owner of the operation and felt the need for some help I sure wouldn't contact the Hoffman's. Freddy Dodge and Juan would be my choice and would sure be more interesting to watch.
