The Oscars may be in the rearview mirror, but seven of this year's Academy Award acting nominees could find themselves competing once again ... at the 2025 Emmys.
Mikey Madison and Zoe Saldaña, the respective Oscar winners for Anora (Best Actress) and Emilia Pérez (Best Supporting Actress), will be seeking Emmy nominations this year for vastly different TV projects. Madison will submit for the 50-year-old sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live and the limited series Lady in the Lake, while Saldaña will be eligible for Season 2 of the spy thriller Lioness.
Speaking of SNL, Timothée Chalamet and Ariana Grande are two other recent Oscar nominees who also hosted the program this season. Chalamet earned an Oscar nod for his portrayal of music superstar Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, and Grande made magic happen in Wicked as Glinda the Good Witch.
See Which categories could ‘Snow White’ seriously compete in at the Oscars?...

Natalie Portman seems to have found a new man!
Following Portman’s divorce from Benjamin Millepied, she’s finally ready to date again — apparently.
This looks extremely new. At least, their public outings sure are.
So who is Tanguy Destable?

In early March 2025, French tabloid Voici first linked Natalie Portman and Tanguy Destable. This came just over a year after she finalized her divorce from Millepied.
Soon, other outlets followed, with sightings of the two walking around Paris together.
Portman and Destable have not gone public with their reported entanglement. But that doesn’t mean that her fans aren’t interested in hearing more about the guy.

Lady in the Lake.It is not quite right to call a point-of-view shot “subjective.”1 As Jean Mitry observes, there is an essential tension in the spectator’s relationship to a filmic point of view: “At the movies I am both in this action and outside it, in this space and outside this space. Having the gift of ubiquity, I am everywhere and nowhere.”2 If subjectivity designates an individual’s embodied movement through the world—structured by goals, obstacles, detours, means—then point-of-view shots only highlight the disjunction between seeing through someone else’s eyes and walking in their shoes. Lady in the Lake (1947) was partly conceived with this equivalence in mind, advertised in trailers as a “revolutionary innovation in film technique,” starring Robert Montgomery and “You!” But if anything, this sustained experiment with a camera that purports to collapse viewer and character only accentuates the gap between a point...

Courtney A. Kemp has nabbed her first series greenlight under her overall deal with Netflix.
Variety has learned that Netflix has ordered the drama series “Nemesis,” which is co-created by Kemp and Tani Marole in his series writing debut. The official logline for the series states:
“‘Nemesis’ is the story of two men on either side of the law, the tale of what happens when an unstoppable force (an expert criminal) meets an immovable object (a brilliant police detective). What starts as a series that aims to subvert the heist genre at every turn, amped with thrilling life-or-death stakes, family dynamics and explosive action, actually gives birth to an exploration of what drives us, sustains us, and ultimately destroys us.”
“Tani and I are excited to bring a hard-hitting psychological crime drama to Netflix, specific in location, but broad in universal themes of right and wrong, love and loss, and loyalty vs self-preservation,...

It’s an experiment that shouldn’t work. A feature film shot entirely through the point of view of a ghost who watches a family of four move into a large suburban home and over time witnesses their most intimate and disturbing moments, as a supernatural mystery begins to bubble beneath the surface.
Director Steven Soderbergh, better than anyone, laid out why a fully Pov camera doesn’t work for narrative storytelling when discussing first-person VR movies back in 2022. Said Soderbergh, “[That] there’s no Pov and reverse angle on a character who’s experiencing this is hugely limiting. That is how we engage with visual stories, is to watch the expressions of the characters so that we can read the emotions of what we’re experiencing.”
But two years later, Soderbergh did make it work, and while he was a guest on this week’s episode of IndieWire’s Filmmaker Toolkit podcast,...

When it comes to Oscar nominations, the Academy frequently gets it wrong. I'm not going to waste too much time regurgitating all the ways that awards voters have bungled things, because I think it's common knowledge at this point that more often than not, the Oscars aren't really about rewarding the most deserving art of the year. Instead, movies that land nominations (and wins) often do so thanks to heavy campaign work performed by studios and PR folks. Recency bias is also a huge issue — films that are shown to voters at the end of the year tend to get all the glory, while movies released earlier get overlooked. On top of that, anonymous voters will consistently confess that more often than not, they tend to vote for films their friends worked on rather than stuff that's actually deserving merit. With all that in mind, I try not to let Oscar snubs get me down.

Henry Cavill’s Superman replacement, David Corenswet, has appeared in quite a few interesting roles before his Dcu entry. One of these roles was in the Netflix political drama, House of Cards, which starred Kevin Spacey. By the time Corenswet made his only appearance in the penultimate episode, Spacey was fired from the show after his legal troubles.

Corenswet’s character in the series was not fond of Spacey’s character at all. The same would’ve happened in DC if their characters were to meet. While Corenswet plays the Man of Steel in James Gunn’s Superman, Spacey played villain Lex Luthor in Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns.

Jomo Fray can pinpoint the day when the bold idea of “first-person perspective” truly clicked.
The Brooklyn-based cinematographer and his director, RaMell Ross, had spent months discussing, studying, and experimenting for the filming of “Nickel Boys.” Based on Colson Whitehead’s novel, the movie is shot almost entirely through the eyes of its main characters, Elwood and Turner (played by Ethan Herisse and Brandon Wilson), two young Black men at an inhumane reform school in Florida.
The eureka moment came during a scene when Elwood’s grandmother (Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor) visits the school to deliver bad news to her grandson. “I was the camera operator for that scene,” said Fray. “And as she was building up the courage to tell Elwood something devastating, I looked away. I find it very difficult to look a person in the eyes when I know they’re telling me something that’s difficult for them.

David Corenswet—tall, striking, with a smile that could thaw the iciest of hearts—is on the cusp of donning the iconic red boots of Superman. The actor is stepping into a role that many actors would give an arm and a leg for—Clark Kent. And while countless renditions of this character have graced the screen, Corenswet’s take, under the sharp eye of James Gunn and Peter Safran, promises something unique.
Gone are the brooding shadows and grim intensity; the new Superman is a beacon of hope, compassion, and… a whole lot of charm.

The old saying goes that "a hero is only as good as their villain." That's a philosophy that David Corenswet discovered firsthand when he was cast in the iconic role of Clark Kent for James Gunn's much-anticipated Superman. Fresh off of roles in this year's natural disaster blockbuster Twisters and Apple TV+'s Lady in the Lake, he'll look to take the Man of Steel in a new direction next year that leans more into the character's trademark hope and compassion than the grittiness of Henry Cavill and the old Dceu. The process of creating that more positive Superman was a long one with plenty of inspirations playing into the final product seen on screen. It wasn't just comics or Gunn's direction that got him to a spot he was happy with, but also his co-stars, who helped him fully understand who this version of Clark is at his heart.

Mikey Madison has certainly been rising through the ranks of Hollywood. With her noteworthy role being in 2022’s Scream, she has come a long way since, starring alongside Natalie Portman in Lady in the Lake. Most recently, she was a part of Anora, a film that has gotten much buzz but has certainly turned the heads of critics.

Her performance as the titular character was especially praised, embodying the essence of a s*x worker in ways that are rarely seen in the industry. Choosing to be more realistic than provocative with her acting, it would seem that the actress did some very thorough research to make sure she did justice to her character.
Mikey Madison worked very hard to make sure her character in Anora was accurate

The cast for The Madison continues to grow. Four more actors have joined the hotly-anticipated Yellowstone spinoff series, with one of the new additions already familiar with the franchise.
According to Variety, Kevin Zegers (The Rookie: Feds), Rebecca Spence (Lady in the Lake), Alaina Pollack (The Surrender) and Danielle Vasinova (The Bay) are the latest additions to The Madison cast, joining the previously announced Michelle Pfeiffer, Patrick J. Adams, Elle Chapman, Matthew Fox, Beau Garrett, Ben Schnetzer, and Amiah Miller. Vasinova may not be familiar yet to the Yellowstone fandom, but the actor has already wrapped a role in one of the franchise's other spinoffs, 1923 Season 2. For obvious reasons, Vasinova will not be reprising her 1923 role in the present-day-set The Madison; instead portraying Kestrel, "an indigenous woman married to a Montana rancher who lives with her family on a double-wide trailer on their ranch."

Moses Ingram first came to viewers’ attention as Jolene, the best friend of Anya Taylor-Joy’s character in The Queen’s Gambit, a role that earned Ingram an Emmy nomination. After parts in Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Tragedy of Macbeth and Ambulance, the Baltimore native returned to home turf for a starring role on Alma Har’el’s Lady in the Lake, a whodunit about a Jewish housewife in the 1960s, played by the show’s exec producer Natalie Portman, who risks everything to become an investigative journalist trying to solve the death of Cleo Johnson, played by Ingram. The limited series that pushes all boundaries when it comes to genre and tone is a wild showcase for Ingram, who gets to demonstrate every skill she has as an actress. But for the 30-year-old, the highlight of the project was returning to the place her ambitions were born. “I did a lot of dreaming in Baltimore.

After debuting at the Telluride Film Festival to great acclaim, RaMell Ross’s Nickel Boys quickly became one of the most buzzed-about films this year. Nickel Boys RaMell Ross Interview
FandomWire: Many films attempt to capture empathy, but very few films have done so as literally as Nickel Boys. Why did you set out to take this approach to these themes and this story?

Stephen King shares his praise for a new Apple TV+ thriller, matching the audience's sentiment. Apple TV+ has been on a run of consistently releasing new original shows over the past few years, with the genre frequently falling into the thriller category. Oftentimes, those thrillers will have a sci-bent, with Silo, Dark Matter, and Severance. But the preference for tense stories also extends beyond the science fiction realm.
Lady in the Lake, led by Natalie Portman, was a murder mystery presented as a thriller. The same is true for The Crowded Room, starring Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried, which was a crime drama that often veered into the direction of a paranoid and shaky narrative with an unreliable protagonist at the center. One of the newest thrillers from the streamer continues the trend, including another big actor, though responses have been split.

Ortega and Portman are circling the project, which finds the Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn helmer back in the director’s chair. In addition to directing the picture, Yan co-wrote the screenplay with James Pedersen. In addition to her starring role, Portman produces the film alongside Jonathan King, Ash Sarohia, Tom McCarthy, Rae Baron, Sophie Mas, and Zola Elgart Glassman.
Details about The Gallerist are scarce. Still, Deadline says the film focuses on a desperate gallerist who conspires to sell a dead guy at Art Basel Miami. If Portman and Ortega join the movie, Yan’s next project could become one of the hottest tickets in Tinsel Town.
