The Oval Office desk, rug and props are those used in the À la Maison Blanche (1999) TV series, and both National Treasure movies. The Oval Office set was a full scale replica of the Oval Office, and was built specifically for First Dog on the stage of the Sobrato high school theater by high school film students and teachers under a unique mentorship program. The mentorship program was created by First American Cinema to mentor the senior students on an actual feature film set. The mentorship program was created by Bryan Michael Stoller of First American Cinema, and Gary Harmon of the Sobrato High School (Sobrato Conservatory of the Arts).
The dog in this movie is the same dog from the movie 'Wizard of Paws' (2015) which also features the actor Tommy 'Tiny' Lister.
Dick Van Patten plays one of the Natural Balance Pet Foods truckers in Ottowa, Ohio, who drive to California.
