In a split ruling today, a state appeals court panel reinstated a grant of parole for former Charles Manson follower Leslie Van Houten, overturning an earlier decision by Gov. Gavin Newsom to block her release.

Tuesday’s decision does not automatically mean Van Houten will be released. The state could still appeal the ruling to the California Supreme Court. Neither the governor’s office nor the state Attorney General’s Office immediately returned a message seeking comment.

Van Houten, now 73, is serving a potential life prison sentence for taking part in the killings of Leno and Rosemary Labianca in their Los Feliz home more than 50 years ago.

Bill Moseley (The Devils Rejects) horror film fan favorite is taking his talent for playing a psychotic to new heights as Charles Manson in the upcoming Independent feature Manson Girls. The film about the female members of Mansons clan directed by Susanna Lo chronicles the Helter Skelter attacks and centers on the girls rather than being a psychological tale about Manson himself.

Will Manson Girls ever get made? Our last report about this film came way back in 2011 and still, today, we're getting updates. The latest being that the film is expected to roll cameras in February 2015.

Susanna Lo is still on board to direct and Bill Moseley remains attached as Charles Manson. There have been some changes to the cast though.

Exclusive: As Charles Manson gears up for his behind-bars nuptials to a young follower named Star, a February shoot has been set for long-gestating indie drama Manson Girls. When it comes to horror movies, the focus is usually on demons, ghosts, monsters, or slashers... but there's another kind of evil out there. One who's silently watching and listening... one with the ability to make people just disappear. One that reared its ugly head in 1971.

Bill Moseley is one hell of a busy guy. In the last twelve months alone he's performed in The Devil's Carnival, the upcoming sequel The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D, two episodes of FEARnet's popular network series "Holliston" and a handful of other genre films as well.

It's been several months since last we heard anything about writer/director Susanna Lo's Manson Girls, which focuses on the period leading up to the 1969 murders of nine people by members of Charles Manson's "Family", but finally production has begun with a half dozen or so scenes being assembled into a "sizzle reel".

A movie we've been covering exclusively on Bloody for almost a year now has finally gone behind cameras. Manson Girls, focusing on the female followers of cult leader Charles Manson, has quietly started production nearly a year after the project was announced. Susanna Lo is producing via her Slomotion Studios and directing from her own script, with Taryn Manning, Tania Raymonde, Monica Keena, Stella Maeve, Estella Warren, Chad Faust, Ron Jeremy, Eric Balfour, and Bill Moseley all starring, as previously reported in various stories here on Bloody. Manson Girls focuses on the period leading up to the 1969 murders of nine people. Manson and three followers were convicted in 1971 in the slayings. Grey’s Anatomy Lands Kristen Stewart’s Bandmate Stella Maeve

Stella Maeve is on her way to the ABC network set of Grey’s Anatomy. You may recognize this young actress. Not so long ago the California-born actress co-starred alongside Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn ladies Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning in that rock n’ roll biopic, The Runaways. You remember that one, don’t you?

Maeve is gearing up to portray Lily, a young woman who visits Seattle Grace Hospital because a few of her family members have endured a very serious car crash. Lily was in the vehicle also, but survives with little damage, though her family’s welfare is far more critical. Lily will appear in a two-episode arc. In fact, you’ll find her starring in Episodes 9 and 10 of this current season. THR had the scoop.

Actress Taryn Manning is aiming for Oscar gold with her upcoming Charles Manson movie, insisting the lead role is worthy of an Academy Award.

The Crossroads star is preparing to star in Manson Girls, a film focusing on the lives of the convicted murderer's female followers, and she has been given the unique opportunity of choosing between two key parts - serial killer Susan 'Sadie' Atkins and longtime cult member Sandra 'Blue' Good.

Manning admits she's torn between the roles because they're both challenging - but only one is truly Oscar worthy.

She tells WENN, "We haven't filmed it but I'm signed on. I can choose between two roles right now. One of them is Sadie Atkins which is the obvious part because of typecasting. I'm much more sophisticated than I get credit for and I'm much more well read and educated.

"But I've also had the opportunity to play Sandra 'Blue' Good who is still alive and she still follows Manson and she's crazy. She was the most educated of all the women that fell into this cult and she was never part of any of the murders and was pregnant during the early days of the family. She's not a part I would normally get to play but if I want to win an Oscar, which is my intention, I want the part that will stand out and that's Sadie Atkins."

And Manning is determined to draw the attention of Academy voters, with whichever role she chooses, after being snubbed in 2005.

She says, "I feel like I should have been nominated for Hustle & Flow to be honest and a lot of people feel that way, but that's fine and it wasn't my time... I'm one part away from winning an Oscar, if it's the right part, and that could be playing Sadie Atkins."

But there's one aspect of the Manson Girls project she's a little apprehensive about: "There are people who don't like her (Atkins) and what she really did in real life and I don't know if I want to sign up for that potential abuse that could come my way from people that are horrified from the murders she committed of innocent people. So I'm torn between what part do I play. It's a good problem to have!"

Manson is serving a life prison sentence after co-ordinating a killing spree in the late 1960s as the leader of the Manson Family.

Shock spent part of the afternoon today hanging around on the set of MTV's upcoming new horror-comedy series Death Valley where Tania Raymonde ( Lost ) was wrapping her final day shooting. Up next for the actress: Susanna Lo's Manson Girls . "I've been doing a lot of research for that, reading and watching all of the films," she told us. Part of her film consumption included Jim Van Bebber's The Manson Family and a number of documentaries. Raymonde knows her stuff, recalling for us how long it took Van Bebber to get his film made. Taryn Manning has come a long way from life in Charming. After starring as Half-Sack’s girlfriend Rita in Sons of Anarchy Season 1, Manning went on to be a series guest-star on Hawaii Five-0 as Mary Ann McGarrett.

Now, Manning is scheduled to make major moves in 2011, starting with the cover of Playboy Magazine. Just one month after Samcro’s Winter Ave Zoli took over the cover of Playboy, Manning gets her own cover shoot with a decidedly more rock ‘n roll look with a touch of metal lace.

Playboy won’t be Manning’s only stop after reprising her role on Soa during the Season 3 Belfast journey. Manning has six movies scheduled for 2011 release: 513, The Speed of Thought, Man Without a Head, Five Good Years, Manson Girls and The Story of Bonnie and Clyde.

After Moseley’s turn in “The Devil’s Rejects”, it’s not overwhelmingly surprising that the genre vet would be tapped to play Charles Manson in Susanna Lo’s upcoming shocker “Manson Girls”.
