Come for entertaining, not the story

It's just a simple story about instagram influencer learned about the real meaning of life, that it's not just about getting likes and gaining followers, but about friendship and courage. Yup, just that. Nothing special but is quite entertaining. The plot was generic, predictable in many ways and you obviously know how its ended.

Just ok

Watched it with my teen daughters. Good for a few laughs. Fun costumes and clothing. El Salvador has some great views.

Ironically Fake and Pretentious

Example of irony: when an actor, who is an Instagram influencer in real life, plays an Instagram influencer character that learned about life's not just about number of likes on social media.

So a new Brazilian movie just dropped on Netflix. Right after I read the synopsis and see the cover of this movie, I was pretty sure that this is gonna be a throwaway one.

And I was right. This is one of the most pretentious movies I have seen this year. Pretty much the first half of the movie was just these four annoying girls screaming and partying. I didn't even know what was going on. The plot was basic and predictable in almost every way.

Ah the acting. Screaming a lot doesn't mean you're a good actor. This movie felt like the ones where these actor-wannabe influencers or Youtubers made their debut. I didn't expect any good acting, and I was right.

The themes. When you try to preach too hard, you become fake and unnatural. There were many themes that the movies tried to throw at the audience: don't judge by the cover, be who you really are, know what is most important to you, and faith. Each of the four main character here had some background and revelation that reflected one of the themes. However, every single one of them were unjustified, sudden, unearned, and fake. I scratched my head at how these character came to these revelations.

And the most pretentious one was the main chick, who's supposed to learn that social media isn't about likes, BUT she constantly gained followers throughout the movie. Like what?!? How was she supposed to learn if she kept getting more famous?

Overall, this movie was a trap, especially the synopsis. I didn't expect much, but holy it's fake as heck. Don't even search up this movie. 0.5/10.

Where are the old comedy movies?

It is very easy to make a comedy movie nowadays. 4 girls in bikinis. A little eroticism. The operation is ok. It's a very bad movie.

So bad

I should have been tipped off by the fact that this was a movie about an influencer; but I went ahead anyway, and boy was that a bad idea. The characters are so overtly stereotypical that it almost seems like a satire. The script is terrible and there is no plot. There are some weird spiritual moments that are completely out of place they seem like a joke. Just avoid.

Geography tip

Correcting one review here: The film is not set at "El Salvador" country but the city of Salvador in Brazil.

Just another wild party comedy, without much comedy...

I stumbled upon the 2021 comedy "Carnaval" by random chance here in 2021. And with it being a movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I opted to sit down and watch what director Leandro Neri had to offer with this comedy.

Having sat through it, I must admit that I feel that I wasn't exactly the target audience for "Carnaval", with me being a 46 year old man at the time of watching the movie. Nay, "Carnaval" felt more like it was a movie aimed for a female audience in their late 20s or early 30s, I suppose. So there wasn't much particular entertainment in "Carnaval" for me.

And for a comedy of this type, I feel that writers Lipy Adler, Audemir Leuzinger, Luisa Mascarenhas and Leandro Neri just played it safe and utilized every trope already seen in other comedies of this particular kind. So "Carnaval" didn't bring anything new to the comedy genre. In fact, the storyline was rather mundane and generic to me.

The acting performances in "Carnaval" were fair. I wasn't familiar with a single actor or actress in the movie, but I think that they did perform well enough, given the limitations of the script and storyline.

Ultimately, then I made it through "Carnaval", but it is not a movie that I enjoyed, nor is it a movie that I will ever return to watch a second time.

My rating of "Carnval" lands on a generous four out of ten stars, as the movie had some nice enough things to it, despite it failing on the comedy aspect.

Fun

Don't hear people taking a casual comedy seriously. The world is complicated enought! Gorgeous locations in Brazil and good production overall.

horrible

What a horrible movie. It makes me sad to think that money can be spent to such bad things. Some moments I felt ashamed. How on earth can something like this be done? One of the worst part is when the protagonist visits the Terreiro de Candomblé and you can see different orixás in the same gira and the Babalorixá stops the ritual and calls the protagonist to say something. I got like... what?!?!

Salvador de Bahia, 1- Influencers, 0.

Ok, so the plot is pretty easy to figure out, the main story line is predictable, the whole world of influencers is all shell and no depth- nothing new here. Plus the inevitable stand about political correctness.

And the main character- what a good looking girl!

But... for one who visited Salvador- not El Salvador, you geography losers- this film is a little gem on the way back memory lane. Elevador Lacerda, Bahia de Todos os Santos, Pelourinho, Farrol de Barra, baianas, praias, it's all there. No Mercado Modelo, though.

Considering the year- 2021- I wonder when and how the carnival scenes were filmed. A carnival in 2020, perhaps? I'd like to know...

And the satire with Suzana Vieira's Horrenda was the best, and the trauma of the little one was so exciting...

Kind of boring, I thought the spiritual part was beautiful, the girls' friendship, something that is priceless, immeasurable... Cute girls, with their opposite personalities, the jokes, simple but adorable, "hold me", the fake and exaggerated content, made it more fun than I imagined, meeting the new generation of influencers, I'm totally out of date, this world doesn't belong to me, cute and cute... And the satire with Suzana Vieira's Horrenda was the best, and the trauma of the little one was so exciting...

Entertaining

The movie provides a good 1.5 hours of entertaining. Good photography, competent and good looking cast, the movie managed to put a smile in my face a couple of times.

Being an expatriate myself, these new wave of commercial Brazilian movies really helps to feel connected with my country. Nothing against movies that explores Brazilian problems, but it is far from the only reality.

The characters were funny in their different personalities and dramas, and the conclusion was expected but not boring whatsoever.

Thati Lopes could have had a bigger part, she's hilarious!

Looking forward for more movies that follow the same recipe.

I expected something better

Very silly, idiotic content. Brazilian film with a cast of Youtubers? It certainly wouldn't do any good. Wasted my time watching. I try to have hope in Brazilian films, but after the elite troop, but nothing helped.
