There are currently no plans to fill her role. Sharing the news on an internal memo (scroll to the bottom), Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios head Mike Hopkins said film and television will now operate as distinct studios, with head of film Courtenay Valenti and head of TV Vernon Sanders reporting to Hopkins. Marketing head Sue Kroll will continue to work across both.

Jen Salke, the head of Amazon MGM Studios, is stepping down from her role and will focus on starting a new production entity, Prime Video head Mike Hopkins said in an internal memo sent to staff and obtained by IndieWire.

Salke has been the primary voice at Amazon MGM since joining in 2018 and has been behind the development and acquisition of shows and films like “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” “Saltburn,” “The Rings of Power,” “Fallout,” “Reacher,” “Red One,” and many more.

No successor has been named into the role as of yet. Hopkins in his memo said the team will take a “couple of weeks” to speak with Salke’s direct reports and determine the long-term structure at the studio. Film chief Courtenay Valenti and TV chief Vernon Sanders will report to Hopkins, and marketing chief Sue Kroll will continue in her role.

“Minx” alum Angarano directs and stars in “Sacramento,” which he co-wrote with Chris Smith. This is Angarano’s second feature he’s directed; the star made his debut with 2017’s “Avenues.”

Heart Eyes is a winning romance and a killer slice of slasher movie fun. Not an easy balance to pull off. The team behind the hit—which made even more money in its second weekend at the box office—succeeded with sincerity. Not for a second do genres clash in the hands of director Josh Ruben and cinematographer Stephen Murphy.

Exclusive: Hiro Murai, the Emmy-nominated filmmaker known for his work on hit series like Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Atlanta and The Bear, on Wednesday announced the launch of Chum Films, a production company that will focus on developing and producing original films and television series, supporting the vision of new filmmakers and creators.

Carver Karaszewski has been named as the company’s President of Development. Meanwhile, Claudia Shin, Murai’s longtime collaborator on projects like The Bear and Mr. & Mrs. Smith, has been elevated to the role of Senior Vice President of Film & Television.

Under Chum, Murai currently has a first-look deal with FX Productions. At present, projects on the company’s slate include the Apple horror comedy series Widow’s Bay, starring Matthew Rhys, and the A24 samurai film Bushido, among others. Released in 2024, the series was a critical hit, dominating the streaming charts and taking home a record-breaking 18 Primetime Emmys last year. “Hacks” won its second trophy in four years for Best Comedy Series, as well as its second trophy in the same span for Best Episodic Comedy, continuing a victory parade that began at the 2024 Emmys when it upset “The Bear” for the top prize. That hot streak has continued into 2025 with wins at the Casting Society of America, Costume Designers Guild Awards, Directors Guild Awards, Producers Guild Awards, and AFI Awards, among others. With Season 4 having wrapped production in January, creators Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky’s Max original should enter the 2025 Emmy season as the presumptive favorite.

“Nosferatu” (Craig Lathrop), “Wicked” (Nathan Crowley), and “Conclave” (Suzie Davies) were the period, fantasy, and contemporary production design winners at the 29th annual Art Directors Guild Awards, held February 15 at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown.

Also winning for animation was “The Wild Robot”, following its Annies sweep and Ves prizes. On the TV side, “Shōgun,” “Squid Game,” “Fallout,” and “The Penguin” were the winners for their production designers in their respective categories.

The Lathrop win for “Nosferatu” was not surprising when you consider that “The Brutalist” production designer Judy Becker is not an Adg member. She has been the presumptive Oscar favorite for channeling Oscar-nominated Adrien Brody’s visionary architect, László Tóth, in applying a Brutalist style to the architectural designs of mid-century Pennsylvania with its bold shapes and function over form aesthetic.

Lathrop, who has worked on all of director Robert Eggers’ other films, received his first Oscar nomination for “Nosferatu.

Awards-watchers are accustomed to waiting for the end of every awards show to see the big film categories handed out, but Saturday’s Writers Guild Awards threw everybody for a loop by making the film awards the first two categories of the night in simultaneous ceremonies in Los Angeles and New York.

“Nickel Boys” won the first award of the night, for Best Adapted Screenplay, and “Anora” won the second, for Best Original Screenplay. The awards led off the shows because the BAFTA Awards are taking place in London on Sunday, with the categories’ early placement giving “Nickel Boys” writers RaMell Ross and Joslyn Barnes and “Anora” writer Sean Baker more time to get to London.

In the television categories that ended the show, “Shōgun” and “Hacks” continued the roll they’ve been on since last September’s Emmy Awards, with the former show winning three awards and the latter show winning two.

“Shōgun” dominated with three wins at the Writers Guild Awards on Saturday evening — including best drama, while “Hacks” scored two on the TV side, including best comedy. In film, “Anora” and “Nickel Boys” scored big wins, giving both entries a bit more momentum as Oscar voting ends on Tuesday. “Anora,” coming off Critics Choice, DGA and PGA wins for best picture last weekend, picked up the original screenplay prize for Sean Baker. “Nickel Boys,” which has two Oscar noms, won the WGA award for RaMell Ross and Joslyn Barnes.

“Shōgun” was the night’s big winner, picking up prizes for best drama, best new series and best drama episode. On the comedy side, “Hacks” also scored a double play, landing best comedy and best comedy episode. In the limited field, “The Penguin” scored the series win.

Meanwhile, it was the first WGA noms and wins for Baker, Ross and Barnes.

With last year’s ceremony taking place in the shadow of the 2023 strikes and this year’s function in the aftermath of the Southern California wildfires, the 2025 WGA Awards have a lot of work to do when it comes to lifting the spirits of the entertainment industry. Composers and lyricists gathered together for a dinner and ceremony hosted by singer-songwriter Colin Hays, held at the Skirball Cultural Center.
