Simone Ashley landed her first-ever role as a background character in 2015’s Straight Outta Compton. It was this small role that led to her appearances in episodes of Wolfblood and Broadchurch and her breakthrough role in Sex Education. Ashley’s casting in Bridgerton was announced when Season 1 of her other Netflix show became a major streaming hit.
Bridgerton gave her immense popularity and propelled her into a TV lead status. Fans of the regency romance drama would be thrilled to know that Ashley is reportedly part of The Devil Wears Prada sequel. Deadline reported that the actress has joined the ensemble cast, featuring Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci.
Ashley joined the cast after it was earlier reported that Kenneth Branagh was tapped for a role in the sequel. The new film will explore Meryl Streep’s character Miranda Priestly as she confronts the reality of the decline of the print industry.

To be fair, I’d probably lose my job and disappoint my father if I set out to write a “celebration of fly white boys who love beautiful queens of every race,” too.

Tragically, the “scared straight”-style wilderness intervention he was subjected to as a teen didn’t take, and Chet Hanks has achieved only infamy in his decades-long struggle for pop-culture relevance. His song “White Boy Summer” is the closest he’s gotten so far, but the intended “celebration of fly white boys who love beautiful queens of every race” has turned into more of a white privilege/white pride anthem.

After The Twilight Saga and one-off films like Renfield, vampires were truly beginning to lose their bite. Gone were the days of real monster movies where the creature lurking in the shadows was but moments away from pouncing to tear its victim limb from limb and gulp down its blood. Over the last year, vampire flicks started to get back on course thanks to Gary Dauberman’s ‘Salem’s Lot and Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu, but many are still sleeping on one of the greatest bloodsucker features in recent years. Luckily, Prime Video is the current home of The Last Voyage of the Demeter and audiences around the world are finally discovering what they’ve been missing out on. Right now, countries like Argentina, Mexico, and Panama have helped raise the title up to the Top 10 where it’s currently settled into fourth place.

Jamie Foxx is set to star in and produce the Olympic boxing movie “Fight for ’84” for Netflix. The Oscar-winner will play a coach hired to reconstitute the U.S. Olympic boxing team after the original team is killed in a tragic plane crash in 1980. In the 1984 Olympics, the U.S. won nine gold medals in boxing, the most in Olympic history. The project was announced during Netflix’s upfront presentation on May 14.
Columbian filmmaker Andrés Baiz (“Santanás”) — who helmed Netflix’s 2024 limited series “Griselda,” as well as episodes of “The Sandman,” “Narcos: Mexico,” and “Marcos” for the streamer — is making his English-language feature debut with the movie. Andrea Berloff (“Straight Outta Compton”), John Gatins (“Flight”) and Andy Weiss (“White Boy Rick”) wrote the screenplay.
The film is based on the real crash of a Lot Polish Airlines flight in March 1980 that killed 14 boxers and eight staff members of the U.

Award-winning director Christopher Nolan is no stranger to massive projects, but his adaptation of "The Odyssey" will probably be his biggest undertaking yet. The director behind "The Dark Knight," "Inception," and "Oppenheimer," (just to name a few of his blockbuster films) is taking on Homer's epic poem, and filming is already underway for the project — which is set to release in 2026 (as of this writing).

When Suge Knight sped away from Tam’s Burgers in Compton, California, on Jan. 29, 2015, he left two men lying on the asphalt behind him. He had just shifted gears and barreled over the pair with his two-ton Ford Raptor truck. One of the men, Terry Carter, would die from multiple blunt force injuries within the hour.
The other man, Cle “Bone” Sloan, was rushed to a hospital with two crushed ankles and a serious head laceration. Knight abandoned the truck and turned himself in for questioning at 3 a.m. the next day.

Directing the best American film of 2024 that’s also the uber-rare piece of experimental art to screen in multiplexes and––you know where this is headed––massive box-office bomb would typically spell the end of a director’s career. Suge Knight’s wrongful death retrial veered wildly off course Tuesday when the Death Row Records founder dramatically contradicted his lawyer’s claim that he had agreed to a last-minute deal in the long-running civil case. The partial settlement would have allowed Knight to avoid facing a jury over claims he recklessly killed Compton businessman Terry Carter with his Ford Raptor truck 10 years ago, sources and court filings reveal.
The breakdown came as a panel of prospective jurors was due to fill a tiny courtroom for jury selection in downtown Los Angeles.

Jennifer Lopez is again teaming with Netflix, this time for an auteur’s latest project. Lopez is set to star in an adaptation of the book “The Last Mrs. Parrish,” directed by Robert Zemeckis and set up at Netflix, IndieWire has confirmed.
The 2017 bestseller “The Last Mrs. Parrish” sold over a million copies and was a Reese Witherspoon book club pick. A “Talented Mr. Ripley”-esque thriller, the book follows a woman and con artist named Amber who schemes to befriend and eventually undermine a socialite named Daphne and her family, including seducing her husband, all while trying to keep the skeletons of her past under wraps.
The project is currently in development with a script from Andrea Berloff and John Gatins. No additional casting was announced.
Netflix picked up the rights to “The Last Mrs. Parrish” way back in 2021 and at the time had set Lisa Rubin, creator of the streamer’s 2017 series “Gypsy,...

Suge Knight appeared remotely from a San Diego prison Thursday and told a judge he was surprised to hear his longtime lawyer, David Kenner, had asked to withdraw as his attorney just weeks before a major civil trial.
Speaking over a phone line from his detention center, Knight told the court he wanted to move ahead with his April 7 re-trial over a civil lawsuit tied to the 2015 death of Compton businessman Terry Carter. He said he couldn’t proceed alone and rejected Kenner’s claim that an “irreconcilable conflict” had developed between them.

In a tumultuous Hollywood age of corporate takeovers and executive turnovers, Richard Brener is a rarity of the business. The tall, soft-spoken president and Cco of New Line has been at company for 30, yes, you read that right, 30 years come May 1. He started as a temp in Los Angeles, working in every conceivable department. Then, when a story editor position opened up, applied for the job. That gig instead went to a woman named Donna Langley, now the chairman NBCU Entertainment & Studios, but then an executive’s assistant. “That was smart of them because she’s obviously done very, very well for herself,” Brener notes while sitting in New Line’s offices on the Burbank lot of Warner Bros. Discovery. “She’s now a dame and I’m just a mister.” But New Line execs were impressed enough with the Yale history grad that they created the position of staff reader just for him.

There’s something inherently exciting about a thriller that takes place entirely within one apartment building or complex — a setting that is contained while threatening potentially nasty surprises behind every door. Prolific indie writer-director-producer Wes Miller’s Orlando-shot “Black Heat” doesn’t offer much more than that basic concept, yet he keeps this high-body-count action exercise pounding along in lively if blunt fashion.
Starring “Straight Outta Compton’s” Jason Mitchell and Tabatha Robinson (aka rapper DreamDoll) as parents rescuing their daughter from criminals at a sprawling housing project, the film could have used some additional polish in terms of both script and style. Still, it’s got enough propulsive energy to keep viewers entertained. Dark Star Pictures and production company BLacklight are co-releasing to over 200 U.S. theaters on March 28.

Both Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx have dazzling Hollywood careers spanning decades, and in 2009, the talented leading men squared off in the pulse-pounding action thriller Law Abiding Citizen, which focuses on a devoted family man-turned-vicious vigilante as he decides to take justice into his own hands and targets not only the legal system but also a prosecuting attorney after his wife and daughter are brutally murdered, and the killer manages to evade the death penalty.
Butler brilliantly goes against type and delivers a fantastic performance as a haunted man on a mission for vengeance, with the flick being the perfect follow-up to the Scotsman's latest exciting release, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera. When Law Abiding Citizen made its rip-roaring premiere, fans were blown away by the on-screen showdown between Butler and Foxx, though critics were far less impressed; let's check out why the gripping thriller is worth a watch.

Two years after Suge Knight sought to overturn what he called his “illegally imposed” 28-year prison sentence in his hit-and-run manslaughter case, a California judge has rejected his bid, calling it both too late and based on evidence described as “not sincere.”
In a new ruling issued Tuesday and obtained by Rolling Stone, Los Angeles County Judge Laura F. Priver “summarily denied” Knight’s request, known as a writ of habeas corpus, saying he took too long to file it and didn’t have the grounds to support it either way.

Natasha Lyonne and Rian Johnson's hit streaming series, Poker Face, is set to return this year. And, well? The list of people they've finagled to guest star in Season 2 is actually unhinged. Like, the list of people who are going to be on this show is truly outrageous and unfathomable to someone like me, a person who does not cast television shows. But if I did? And I managed to pull this off? I'd be screaming it from the rooftop, folks. Because this cast list? It's truly the best of the best of the funniest, most talented people currently working in Hollywood.
And it seems that Lyonne and Johnson recognize that, sending along a note with the press release teasing the series' forthcoming slate of episodes.
