According to an indictment unsealed in Manhattan federal court…...

LIfetime’s 2014 version of V.C. Andrews’ best-selling horror novel, Flowers in the Attic, scored the network its best ratings since 2012.
The TV movie tells the story of four siblings who lose their peaceful life after their father dies and their mother abandons them at grandma’s mansion. Problem is, grandma wants to keep a dark, family secret and to do that, traps the siblings in her attic.
Heather Graham (Father of Invention), Ellen Burstyn (The Exorcist) and Kiernan Shipka (TV’s Mad Men) star in the film, which had 6.1 million viewers when it debuted.
Critics weren’t completely bowled over by Flowers in the Attic, though, giving it only 47% approval, according to Rotten Tomatoes. That was a vast improvement of the 1987 adaptation of the book, which critics gave only 14%.
The DVD comes with the featurette, “Behind-the-Scenes With Cast and Crew.”

Father of Invention is a 2010 film starring Kevin Spacey, Camilla Belle, and Heather Graham; the film was released by Anchor Bay and has just been put out in the States. The story follows Robert Axle (Kevin Spacey), who was an inventor/T.V. personality that was thrown into jail for eight years due to creating a faulty product that maimed customers. After being released from prison, he comes back to a family who has abandoned him due to his past, selfish actions. Robert’s relationship with his ex-wife is not as important to him as is his relationship with his estranged daughter, Claire (Camilla Belle); Claire is not willing at first to give her father a chance, but after some thought, takes him in to live with her and her roommates. As Robert tries to regain his feet in the world, he learns the importance of being a father as...

There is a great idea at the heart of Trent Cooper's "Father of Invention," which makes it all the more disappointing to take in a film that circles the drain precariously before plunging downward with vigor. Kevin Spacey steps into the shoes of lead Robert Axle, a former millionaire inventor, whose genius lies in an ability to combine two ordinary items into one--a pepper spray camera that blinds your would-be attacker while taking a picture. He plies his wares with a showman's craft in infomercials that piggyback on a legacy of successful combinations. However, after one of his devices causes…...

Robert Axle (Kevin Spacey) was once the invention king. He could go on television and make any one of his products an instant success… That is, until he ended up in prison for 8 years. Now, Axle is forced to live with his daughter Claire (Camilla Belle), who is extremely bitter with him for always putting his inventions first, because all of his money is gone. Starting from the bottom, Robert feels the need to work his way back to the top, and regain the career he once had.
Although Father Of Invention had a great cast, and a few good parts, a big chunk of it dragged on. They made the story way more complicated than it needed to be. Comedy is hard, as the saying goes, but unshakably in the blood of writer-director Trent Cooper, whose latest film, the rangy ensemble farce “Father of Invention,” centers on a disgraced infomercial wizard, Robert Axle (Kevin Spacey), who gets out of prison and tries to start putting his life back together. Robert shacks up with his semi-estranged daughter (Camilla Belle) and her roommates, and gets a job working at a retail superstore, but finds his ex-wife (Virginia Madsen) remarried, and various attempts to secure start-up financing for a new idea stymied at every turn. ShockYa recently had a chance to talk one-on-one with Cooper, about his new movie, his feelings of warmth and affinity for...

Writer-director Trent Cooper crafted a film in Father of Invention that was close to his heart. Cooper tells us in our exclusive interview, that as a father himself, he was drawn to a story of a man who did everything he could to provide for his daughter, even if it was at the sacrifice of actual time with the family.
Kevin Spacey plays an inventor in Father of Invention who has reaped millions off of his inventions and unmatched work ethic. The only thing is that he is never home and available mentally when he is home for his daughter. The movie’s story begins as Spacey’s character is getting out of jail. It seems that one of his inventions hurt thousands of people and he had to pay the price of eight years in prison.
When he gets out, he finds his wife has divorced him and taken all his money.

Rupert Friend lives to see another day--for now--in 5 Days of War.
Based on true events, the action-filled movie 5 Days of War tells the story of a group of people caught behind enemy lines during 2008’s devastating five-day war between Russia and the Georgia Republic.
Directed by Renny Harlin (The Long Kiss Goodnight), the film centers around an American journalist (Rupert Friend, The Young Victoria) and his cameraman (Richard Coyle, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time) as they are caught in the combat zone during the first Russian air strikes against Georgia. Rescuing Georgian schoolteacher Tatia (Emmanuelle Chriqui, Women in Trouble) from the attack, the two reporters agree to help reunite her with her family in exchange for serving as their interpreter. As the three attempt to escape to safety, they witness — and document — the devastation from the full-scale crossfire and cold-blooded murder of innocent civilians.

Father of Invention Click here to read the review! "The tagline for the new Kevin Spacey comedy Father of Invention reads, “A world of ideas, A world of problems,” which rather efficiently sums up the quality of the film as a whole. Unforgivably predictable, an uneven tone, and stereotypically exaggerated supporting characters aped across the screen like a parade of baboons, positions this film as one of the worst father-daughter cautionary/sappy-on-the-back-end tales you’ll most likely stumble upon this year."...

"Real Steel" was the clear victor at the box office this weekend. The action-packed robot-boxing movie took in $27.3 million, according to studio estimates, which easily bested the rest of the flicks in theaters, both new and old.
Of course, the contest wasn't exactly along the lines of George Foreman vs. Muhammad Ali. Industry watchers long suspected the mass audience appeal of "Real Steel" to beat the suspenseful nature of George Clooney's "The Ides of March."
"Real Steel" features Hugh Jackman opposite Dakota Goyo, a generally relatable 11-year-old. It features effects-heavy action, a family story and big thrills aimed at a broad audience. It was also executive-produced by Steven Spielberg. DreamWorks will undoubtedly continue to campaign hard for "Real Steel,...

Coming to you on October 14th is a film that, I predict, is going to surprise a lot of people. Father of Invention, Directed by Trent Cooper (don't let Larry the Cable Guy fool you), and starring Kevin Spacey, Heather Graham, Camilla Belle, Johnny Knoxville, Craig Robinson and Virginia Madsen, is the kind of film that may well prove just crazy enough to work.
Given rather different circumstances, this might be one to write off (which is why it may look that way at first glance), but I have a lot of faith in Kevin Spacey and Heather Graham, and their ability to give this one just the right tone and comedic presence.
Take a look below, and don't let this one slip by.
Millionaire infomercial guru, Robert Axle (Kevin Spacey) loses everything when one of his inventions has a design flaw that accidentally chops off the fingers of thousands of customers.

Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: I celebrate all levels of trailers and hopefully this column will satisfactorily give you a baseline of what beta wave I’m operating on, because what better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising? Some of the best authors will tell you that writing a short story is a lot harder than writing a long one, that you have to weigh every sentence. What better medium to see how this theory plays itself out beyond that than with movie trailers? I'm interrupting this normally scheduled column so I can talk ever so briefly about a project I'm not only excited about but only discovered earlier this week.

Father of Invention is something that I’m pretty sure I had never heard of until this past week, when we got both a poster and news that Anchor Bay had picked it up. The film stars Kevin Spacey, Camilla Belle, Virginia Madsen, Craig Robinson, Johnny Knoxville, and Heather Graham — not a cast that screams “huge hit,” but one with enough people where I thought it would be getting more attention.
Well, the first trailer has shown up at Hulu, and it pains me to say that the film doesn’t look too promising. This pain mostly comes from my appreciation of and frustration with Kevin Spacey; an actor who has done great work in his time, he’s also spent so many years toiling in middlebrow material, which this looks like the latest in a long line of. Some cliched dialogue (“Do you know how hard it is for...

Anchor Bay Films has released the trailer for the upcoming Kevin Spacey vehicle "Father of Invention" (he's a father, not the father, I think). The film premiered at the Berlin Film Festival back in 2010, and will finally come to theaters on October 14.
The trailer doesn't look bad at all. The reviews out of Berlin didn't look great -- i.e. "comedies don't get much more unfunny than 'Father of Invention,'" Kirk Honeycutt from The Hollywood Reporter -- but the trailer doesn't look bad at all. And the cast looks impressive, with Spacey backed up by Johnny Knoxville, Heather Graham, John Stamos, Craig Robinson, Michael Rosenbaum, and Virginia Madsen. As a lapsed Kevin Spacey fanatic -- who once convinced someone to buy a Playboy magazine for him so he could read the Spacey interview in it (and then destroy the pictures of naked women because who would ever look...

What do you get if you combine Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps, Larry Crowne, and the hair left on the floor when Robert Duvall shaved after finishing Get Low? Something like Father of Invention, in which Kevin Spacey looks to be flailing as a lousy inventor who spends a decade in jail for "depraved indifference for human life." Released from the clink (where, evidently, there are no scissors or razors at all) he finds his ex-wife (Virginia Madsen) has married Craig Robinson, so he moves in with his daughter (Camilla Belle) as he tries to get back on his feet. Check out the trailer below. But be ready. The takeaway here should be: scoring with heartfelt comedy is really, really difficult. I could say more, but instead I'll just offer this handily hirsute matrix for Father of Invention: [1] Oh, right. The trailer: This trailer appears on Hulu [2], which means...

You know those smarmy pitchmen who shill on infomercials and late-night TV ads for crappy products that nobody on Earth would ever actually need? Well, here's a quick mental exercise for you: If you were going to cast a Hollywood star as one of those pitch men, who would you pick?
Chances are you went with Kevin Spacey, who has perfected the art of being oily and unctuous on screen. Which is why the new trailer for "Father of Invention" seems so right -- or at least inevitable -- as Spacey steps into the role of a former Billy Mays wannabe looking to rebuild his life after one of his products goes terribly wrong.
"Father of Invention" also has a couple other things going for it, namely the rest of the cast: Heather Graham, Virginia Madsen and Camilla Belle portray the women in his life, while none other than Johnny Knoxville...

"All I need is one good idea that puts me right back on top." Anchor Bay has debuted the latest official trailer over on Hulu for Father of Invention, an indie dramedy about Robert Axle, an eccentric inventor played by Kevin Spacey. I'm not that familiar with this film, it never hit any film festivals as far as I know, but it looks okay, and it has Kevin Spacey as a crazy old bearded dude, which is the best part. Though I find it kind of odd that Camilla Belle plays his daughter and Heather Graham one of her "young" friends. The cast also includes Virginia Madsen, Craig Robinson, John Stamos and Johnny Knoxville. Check it out! A promotional onslaught is in effect for director Trent Cooper's comedy Father of Invention as a new trailer, poster, and a slew of new images from the film have gone online. Starring Kevin Spacey, Heather Graham, Craig Robinson, Virginia Madsen, Johnny Knoxville, John Stamos, and Camilla Belle, the film centers on a former infomercial guru (Spacey) who finds himself in prison after a design flaw in one of his inventions de-fingers many of his customers. From there, Father of Invention looks to document Spacey's attempted return to "As Seen on TV" glory. The pic looks a little formulaic in its "Guy A is a bad person who must first learn how to change himself before he can really make any sort of difference" approach. Nevertheless, the cast is great and when compared to Cooper's last directorial effort, Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector, I'm sure Father of Invention is awards-season material.

There's going to be a clash of the acting titans on Dec. 21, 2012, pitting Brad Pitt against Johnny Depp. That's the day that Paramount has dated its Pitt-starring 'World War Z' post-apocalyptic zombie film; it also happens to be the same day that Disney has scheduled 'The Lone Ranger,' starring Depp and Armie Hammer. Also on that day: Fox's Tobey Maguire drama 'Life of Pi.' And -- get this -- that's only a week after the release of Peter Jackson's 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,' which opens Dec. 14. This makes it quite a holiday present for moviegoers who -- if past seasons serve as an example -- will support all four films. Merry Christmas, 2012. [The Hollywood Reporter]
