LIfetime’s 2014 version of V.C. Andrews’ best-selling horror novel, Flowers in the Attic, scored the network its best ratings since 2012.

The TV movie tells the story of four siblings who lose their peaceful life after their father dies and their mother abandons them at grandma’s mansion. Problem is, grandma wants to keep a dark, family secret and to do that, traps the siblings in her attic.

Heather Graham (Father of Invention), Ellen Burstyn (The Exorcist) and Kiernan Shipka (TV’s Mad Men) star in the film, which had 6.1 million viewers when it debuted.

Critics weren’t completely bowled over by Flowers in the Attic, though, giving it only 47% approval, according to Rotten Tomatoes. That was a vast improvement of the 1987 adaptation of the book, which critics gave only 14%.

The DVD comes with the featurette, “Behind-the-Scenes With Cast and Crew.”

The Tribeca Film Festival kicks off for the eleventh time starting Wednesday when "The Five-Year Engagement" premieres, and festival organizers have just announced the star-studded jury for this year's edition.

Thirty-nine celebrities -- of various levels of fame and awards kudos -- make up the six juries, with producer Irwin Winkler ("Goodfellas") serving a jury president.

Among those selected by Tribeca this year: Patricia Clarkson, Hugh Dancy, Rosario Dawson, Dakota Fanning, Kellan Lutz, Michael Moore and Olivia Wilde. Also on the list: Brett Ratner. "Real Steel" was the clear victor at the box office this weekend. The action-packed robot-boxing movie took in $27.3 million, according to studio estimates, which easily bested the rest of the flicks in theaters, both new and old.

Of course, the contest wasn't exactly along the lines of George Foreman vs. Muhammad Ali. Industry watchers long suspected the mass audience appeal of "Real Steel" to beat the suspenseful nature of George Clooney's "The Ides of March."

Coming to you on October 14th is a film that, I predict, is going to surprise a lot of people. Father of Invention, Directed by Trent Cooper (don't let Larry the Cable Guy fool you), and starring Kevin Spacey, Heather Graham, Camilla Belle, Johnny Knoxville, Craig Robinson and Virginia Madsen, is the kind of film that may well prove just crazy enough to work.

Given rather different circumstances, this might be one to write off (which is why it may look that way at first glance), but I have a lot of faith in Kevin Spacey and Heather Graham, and their ability to give this one just the right tone and comedic presence.

Take a look below, and don't let this one slip by.

Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: I celebrate all levels of trailers and hopefully this column will satisfactorily give you a baseline of what beta wave I’m operating on, because what better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising? Some of the best authors will tell you that writing a short story is a lot harder than writing a long one, that you have to weigh every sentence. What better medium to see how this theory plays itself out beyond that than with movie trailers? Father of Invention is something that I’m pretty sure I had never heard of until this past week, when we got both a poster and news that Anchor Bay had picked it up. The film stars Kevin Spacey, Camilla Belle, Virginia Madsen, Craig Robinson, Johnny Knoxville, and Heather Graham — not a cast that screams “huge hit,” but one with enough people where I thought it would be getting more attention.

Well, the first trailer has shown up at Hulu, and it pains me to say that the film doesn’t look too promising. What do you get if you combine Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps, Larry Crowne, and the hair left on the floor when Robert Duvall shaved after finishing Get Low? Something like Father of Invention, in which Kevin Spacey looks to be flailing as a lousy inventor who spends a decade in jail for "depraved indifference for human life." I'm not that familiar with this film, it never hit any film festivals as far as I know, but it looks okay, and it has Kevin Spacey as a crazy old bearded dude, which is the best part. Though I find it kind of odd that Camilla Belle plays his daughter and Heather Graham one of her "young" friends. A promotional onslaught is in effect for director Trent Cooper's comedy Father of Invention as a new trailer, poster, and a slew of new images from the film have gone online. Starring Kevin Spacey, Heather Graham, Craig Robinson, Virginia Madsen, Johnny Knoxville, John Stamos, and Camilla Belle, the film centers on a former infomercial guru (Spacey) who finds himself in prison after a design flaw in one of his inventions de-fingers many of his customers. From there, Father of Invention looks to document Spacey's attempted return to "As Seen on TV" glory. The pic looks a little formulaic in its "Guy A is a bad person who must first learn how to change himself before he can really make any sort of difference" approach. Nevertheless, the cast is great and when compared to Cooper's last directorial effort, Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector, I'm sure Father of Invention is awards-season material.
