A mere glimpse at Maurice Johnson’s social media accounts and it’s clear he’s excited to join Beyond the Gates. Not only is it an opportunity to work with actors like Clifton Davis and Tamara Tunie, but the Atlanta filming location is less than three hours from his hometown of Augusta, Georgia. Apparently, the actor even passed up work in Los Angeles to stick close to home. Here’s more of what you should know about Johnson, who plays Nicole Dupree Richardson’s husband Ted.
His Early Days

There are 178 episodes of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," and any devoted Trekkie has likely seen them all. True obsessives, however, probably don't consider the series complete unless they include an episode of "Reading Rainbow" called "The Bionic Bunny Show". "Reading Rainbow," for those unlucky enough not to know about it, was a PBS series for kids, hosted by LeVar Burton, that encouraged kids to read. Burton and others would read picture books to the audience, spur on children to go to their local libraries, and regularly host educational segments. "Reading Rainbow" premiered in 1983 and ran regularly for years, sometimes taking extended breaks, through to 2006. Kids who found the series loved it. They also loved that Burton, so friendly on screen, encouraged them to read. Burton won multiple Emmys for the show, including a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022.

‘AHS: Delicate’ turns out its best episode of the season with a flashback-focused installment that recants Adeline’s brutal backstory.
“We don’t have to stay where we’re born…”
Hestia, the namesake of AHS: Delicate’s antepenultimate episode of the season, is the Greek goddess of the hearth, home, and hospitality. This may seem like a benign thing to celebrate, but what is a family without a proper home? A home is the safe support system that keeps a family secure. To take this one step further, what is a womb if not a baby’s first home before they’re thrust into the world? Hestia is regarded as a goddess who’s both soft and strong, which are extremes that are forced upon every mother, whether it’s Anna, Adeline, or even Ivy. It’s a fundamental dichotomy that very likely will be the key to Anna’s...

Despite Captain Jean-Luc Picard's (Patrick Stewart) dislike of children, the USS Enterprise-d encountered its fair share of kids in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Although these kids do not appear in most episodes, some storylines allow the children of the Enterprise to take center stage. Captain Picard's discomfort with children was established early in Star Trek: The Next Generation and continued throughout the series, but his views on family and children began to shift over time. Picard's interactions with children in various episodes of Tng showcased his initial unease, but also his ability to connect with them and develop newfound respect. In Star Trek: Picard, Picard's encounter with young Elnor forced a significant change in him as he embraced the role of a father figure, leading to a softer attitude towards children and a reevaluation of his views on family.
Throughout Star Trek: The Next Generation, Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) made it very clear that he did not care for children, but he had softened a bit by the time of Star Trek: Picard. As Captain of the USS Enterprise-d, Picard could hold his own against god-like aliens, devious Romulans, and the Borg, but...

Star Trek: The Next Generation introduced families on board the Enterprise-d, offering a glimpse into civilian life on a starship. The episode "When the Bough Breaks" showcased the importance of families on board when the children were kidnapped. However, as threats to the Federation escalated, the presence of families on starships became increasingly impractical and dangerous.
With Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and the USS Enterprise-d, Star Trek: The Next Generation introduced a new kind of starship that was very different from Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and his USS Enterprise in one particular way. Not only was the Enterprise-d significantly larger than Kirk's Enterprise in Star Trek: The Original Series, but it also housed the families of many of the officers on board. Picard's Enterprise was meant for exploration and potentially long missions in deep space, and the United Federation of Planets at the time was experiencing a period of peace.

Wesley Crusher's character development in Tng season 1, episode 17 showcases his leadership skills and empathy, making him more likable to viewers. The episode reveals Wesley's fundamentally good nature and his resistance to letting power go to his head, as demonstrated by his responsible use of his Traveler abilities. Wesley Crusher's return in Star Trek: Picard season 2 as a mentor to Kore Soong sets up potential future storylines exploring their lives as Travelers and their relationships with other characters.

American Horror Story: Delicate has been off to a strong start with its unique season. After an encouraging pair of introductory episodes, “When the Bough Breaks” proves to be the season’s slowest, most atmospheric, and least substantial entry. American Horror Story at least understands that Jennifer Lynch is the right person to get behind the camera for an episode that’s sparse in dialogue, but dense in cryptic sequences where characters explore caverns and haunted spaces that shouldn’t exist. If nothing else, this energy really keeps the audience on their toes over what’s actually happening and what might just be some figment of Anna’s feverish fugue state. The viewer is just as foggy and disassociated as Anna. Just like how Anna’s face blemish/likely-spider-nest continues to grow, American Horror Story: Delicate further develops its story. Anna’s worsening facial imperfection reflects the slow burn surface...

A new season of “American Horror Story” is upon us. Believe it or not, “AHS” Season 12 actually marks a couple of firsts for the ongoing franchise – it’s the first to be an adaptation instead of an original story, and it’s the first with a female showrunner as Halley Feiffer wrote every episode of the season herself.
It’s also the season with Kim Kardashian.
Created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, “American Horror Story” debuted on FX in 2011 and didn’t reveal itself to be an anthology show until that season finale, in which almost every main character died. Since that time, each new season of “AHS” is treated as an event, as Murphy and Co. have traversed a variety of horror genres.
For those wondering exactly when they can watch “American Horror Story: Delicate,” everything you need to know about Season 12 is below.
When Did “American Horror Story: Delicate” Premiere?...

Documentary festival IDFA, which runs Nov. 8 to 19 in Amsterdam, has revealed its first 50 titles, including the top 10 Chinese films selected by Chinese filmmaker Wang Bing, IDFA’s Guest of Honor.

Wang’s selection will take the viewer “on a contemplative journey into contemporary Chinese cinema,” according to the festival. “The films and their politics are subtle in their film language, representing a wave of filmmaking rarely shown internationally.”

Regina Hall is an extremely talented actress that has starred in a variety of projects over the course of her career. She got her start in 1999's The Best Man and garnered more attention through her supporting role in the Scary Movie franchise. From there she went into a different direction with her career for the most part by taking on more dramatic roles in films like Law Abiding Citizen (2009), About Last Night (2014), and When The Bough Breaks (2016). After decades in the business as a studio head and a producer, legendary New Line Cinema founder Bob Shaye has returned to directing. Taking a break from his duties at his new production house, Unique Features, Shaye is back with his third directorial debut, Ambition, a shocking tale full of twists and turns that is sure to please audiences everywhere.
In Ambition, a young aspiring musician preparing for a competition is incredibly confidant and gets herself involved in a frightening trap that she has to find her way out of. It raises the question: If an insane person is telling a story, is it real?
I had the honor to catch up with Bob to talk about Ambition, his vision in creating the thriller, working with his sister Lin Shaye again, as well as a slew of other anecdotes from New Line Cinema's storied past.

A couple find themselves the target of a madman in a familiar retread of early 90s psycho-from-hell thrillers that squeezes enjoyment from tired cliches
After its peak in the early 90s, the psycho-from-hell thriller, typified by films such as Fatal Attraction, Single White Female and Pacific Heights, died a villain’s death at the box office, only rearing its head infrequently in the years since. In the late 00s, Sony’s genre label Screen Gems spotted a gap in the market and started pumping out variations on a cookie-cutter formula but with one key difference. Films such as Obsessed, No Good Deed, The Perfect Guy and When the Bough Breaks have been almost universally populated by actors of colour in strict opposition to the all-white thrillers that came before them.

Michael Lynne, the former co-chairman of New Line Cinema who played a key role in shepherding “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, has died at his New York home. He was 77.
Lynne’s death was confirmed Monday by longtime business partner Robert Shaye, who told Variety that Lynne’s family had informed him of Lynne’s passing following a short illness. Lynne and Shaye had been associates for nearly four decades with Shaye focusing on the creative components while Lynne brought expertise on the financial side.
“He was a once-in-a-lifetime partner and the perfect counterpoint to what I was,” Shaye said. “It was one of the great professional associations. Even though we went to law school together, he had the background and finesse that I never developed so we balanced each other out. I will miss him greatly.”
Shaye also noted that Lynne’s son Jonathan Lynne had died a few weeks ago.

This Mother's Day will see Avengers: Infinity War push toward $550 million domestically while a pair of new releases battle it out for second place. Warner Bros. and New Line's Life of the Party and Universal's Breaking In are the new kids on the block this weekend, both looking to take advantage of the Sunday holiday, and while Life of the Party is expected to take the runner-up position, once Sunday rolls around it could be a closer race than anticipated. At the top of the box office for a third weekend in a row will be Disney and Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War, which we're expecting to drop right around 46% for a $62 million three-day, pushing the film's domestic cume right up against the $550 million mark come Sunday evening, moving into the all-time domestic top ten. As impressive as that may be, most eyes will be focused on the film's release in its final major market,...

Welcome to the “Preview Reel” column, where we look at the week’s upcoming wide-release movies. Last weekend Pacific Rim: Uprising took down the long-time box office king, Black Panther, with an impressive $28 million haul. It won’t likely repeat the feat this weekend as one of the more intriguing releases of the year arrives in the form of Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One. Tyler Perry’s latest, Acrimony, also debuts with Taraji P. Henson in the lead role.

It pays homage to some of the best films of the 1980s, and who better to direct such a nostalgia-fueled adventure than the king of the blockbuster himself,...

The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit author J.R.R. Tolkien will be the subject of a new biopic that is moving forward and has just landed a new director. James Strong, best known for his work on Doctor Who, Downton Abbey and Broadchurch, has signed on to direct Middle Earth, which will be produced by Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne's new company Unique Features. Both Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne gave the green light for The Lord of the Rings trilogy adaptation while they were running New Line Cinema.
Deadline reports that the filmmaker will direct from a script by Angus Fletcher, who spent six years researching J.R.R. Tolkien through archival material and personal interviews. Protagonist Pictures is taking care of worldwide sales, with the project expected to be showcased to buyers at the Berlin Film Festival early next year. The Magnificent Seven opened the final weekend of September with an estimated $35 million in domestic box office earnings…and while its $90 million costs may be tough to top (even with foreign box office adding to the totals), it was still enough to hold back the debut of Storks, which brought in an estimated $21.8 million against $70 million in costs. Both films pushed the previous champ Sully down into third place, where an estimated $13.8 million adds to a successful worldwide total of $126.9 million, with more weeks to come.
While Bridget Jones’s Baby has failed to make much of an impression with American audiences (earning an estimated $4.5 million), the comedy has been a smash success overseas, with the $35 million production earning $83.6 million in worldwide revenue. Snowden, in the meantime, must rely entirely on domestic gross so far, and an estimated $4.1 million has only brought in $15.1 million against a $40 million budget so far.
