Continuity

When Rosie is making her sandwiches she puts them into plastic sandwich bags. In the next shot she is marking an empty sandwich bag with a pen and both sandwiches are still on the worktop.
Dylan is standing at Lily's window in the rain. In the first shot, his wet hair is plastered against his forehead. They cut to Lily and back to Dylan, and his forehead is now clear. When they cut back to him the third time, his wet hair is once again plastered against his forehead.
The weight of the bear is stated once as 650#, then later as 750#; Lily's age is stated by aunt as 13, then by other characters as 14.
When Benjamin and Duncan are eating breakfast at the restaurant, the amount of food on Benjamin's plate changes between shots.
When repairing Solomon's gate there is a normal door knob on the inside. MacReady breaks it off. It's never repaired, yet appears out of nowhere when the gate is 'fixed'.

Factual errors

Walter Ferris worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, but his government vehicle's license plates were State of California Exempt plates. His vehicle should have had U.S. government license plates rather than a state government's license plates.
When Duncan is coming down a ladder while talking to Benjamin, Duncan has to tell an ostrich to "back off" and you hear the ostrich make a sound. The sound used is not one an ostrich makes; it's a Red-bellied Woodpecker. An ostrich would have most likely hissed at Duncan in that situation.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

The movie continuously refers to the zoo's upcoming opening day as Saturday, July 7, 2010. July 7, 2010 was actually a Wednesday. The real Dartmoor Zoo that the story was based on reopened on Saturday, July 7, 2007, and this date was moved up exactly 3 years to make it more current.

Revealing mistakes

After Benjamin jumps out of the porcupine enclosure, two extras can be seen standing waiting for their cue to walk forward through the background, which they start to do after a couple of seconds.
When Rosie is watching the peacocks hatch, it is actually chickens that are hatching, not peacocks.
When the bear is in town the car sitting at the stop sign in the background is completely empty.
On the opening day many customers are flying kites. The trees are not moving indicating there is little or no wind.

Anachronisms

The zoo opens on July 7, 2010 but when we see Benjamin Mee holding papers in the car when they go house hunting, in all the papers of the house listings, the date is Jan 3,2011.
Benjamin makes a joking reference to the 'Chilean Miners' when Rosie is hidden under stuffed animals. The mine collapse happened on August 5, 2010, well after this scene takes place.

Audio/visual unsynchronised

After Walter Ferris (the character played by John Michael Higgins) returns to his vehicle after approving the zoo, there is a peacock behind him in the shot. This peacock is turned towards him in this closeup, while in the immediate next wider shot, the same peacock is facing away from him.

Crew or equipment visible

When the family is driving through town, on their way to their new house, right after they pass by Little Dom's, you can see movie trucks down a side street.

Plot holes

There was no need to the fallen tree to block the visitors. Nor for them to climb over it. All they had to do was walk around it.

Character error

Kelly tells Rosie that tigers don't roar, they chuff. In actuality, tigers can roar; chuffing is their alternative to purring.
