Nora El Hourch’s Fiery Sisterhood is La Haine for the #MeToo Generation

Arriving like a molotov cocktail thrown through a plate glass window — or more accurately, like a hashtag gone viral — Nora El Hourch makes an unforgettable first impression with her fiery feature debut Sisterhood. Where La Haine became a cinematic, mid-90s touchstone with its gritty, unblinking depiction of France’s racial tensions, El Hourch’s picture may do the same for this generation as they take hold of the next wave of feminism and the #MeToo movement and pull it into the future.

As Max's Dune: Prophecy continues to expand the world of the Dune franchise, several characters continue to display a wide array of superhuman abilities. While some characters in the Dune universe, like the Bene Gesserit, have displayed the ability to brainwash people and see through time, others have been known to change their bodily appearance in seconds. Dune: Prophecy even introduced a unique character who can incinerate people with only a thought.

All the different superpowers that Dune's characters have displayed only make it one of the richest, most distinctive sci-fi franchises in popular culture. Max and Warner Bros. have only begun to scratch the survival of Dune's potential with Denis Villeneuve's two films and the prequel show Dune: Prophecy. At this point, so many unique powers have been presented in live-action, while many others are just waiting to be adapted from the Dune novels.

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series is a beloved franchise that features some beloved (and wealthy) stars.

The original movie arrived in 2005, introducing us to best friends played by Alexis Bledel, Amber Tamblyn, America Ferrera and Blake Lively who are united… by a universally flattering pair of pants. They got back together again for a sequel in 2008, and there’s been talk of a third movie over the years.

The cast has been in the news throughout 2024 thanks to their enduring friendships, and we got curious about how much everyone was worth.

To me, my vinyl collectors! The music of X-Men ’97 is coming to physical media, with the Newton Brothers’ score arriving as part of a two-record set.

The Hollywood Reporter has the first look and details of the package, which features art from Phantom City Creative and contains two, 140-gram color vinyl discs housed in a gatefold jacket.

X-Men ’97 was a continuation of the classic X-Men animated series, which ran from 1992-97. It was a critical hit for Marvel Studios, becoming its first project to score a 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. The score form the Newton Brothers, known for collaborations with Doctor Sleep filmmaker Mike Flanagan, took inspiration from the show, and charted its own path as well.

Legendary Television has officially welcomed award-winning veteran Indian actor Tabu to the cast of Maxs highly-anticipated Dune: Prophecy series. The prequel was initially titled as Dune: The Sisterhood when it was first announced back in June 2019.

According to Variety, Tabu, whos best known for her critically-acclaimed performances in movies like Virasat, Astitva, Chandni Bar, Maqbool and Andhadhun, has been tapped for a recurring role in Maxs Dune: Prophecy. She will be playing Sister Francesca, whos described as a "strong, intelligent, and alluring character, who leaves a lasting impression in her wake. Once a great love of the Emperor, her return to the palace strains the balance of power in the capital." This wont be the celebrated actors first English project, after previously appearing in Ang Lees Life of Pi movie, and in the BBC miniseries A Suitable Boy.

Memento International has scored further deals on “Omen,” the feature debut of artist and musician turned director Baloji. The film world premiered at Cannes’ Un Certain Regard, where it won the New Voice Award, and was acquired by Utopia for North America.

“Omen” follows Koffie, who after spending years in Belgium, returns home to the Congo to find himself confronted by his past and culture at a family event. Koffie visits his birthplace after being mysteriously ostracized by his family and spending years abroad in Europe. With his soon-to-be wife and unborn child in tow, Koffie’s arrival sets in motion a sprawling, nightmarish and psychedelic fairy tale about ancestry, belief, wrestling, witchcraft and sorcery in Africa today.

The 2023 Golden Horse Film Project Promotion, the project market that accompanies the Golden Horse film festival and awards in Taiwan in November, has laid out a huge 64-title selection for its 2023 edition.

These include 39 film projects at various stages of development and financing; a further seven works in progress; and the 18-previously announced series at project stage.

The event, which runs Nov. 20-22, offers a $31,000 (Nt$1 million) first prize and a total prize pool of $250,000 (Nt$8 million) from sponsors and industry sources. All selected projects are also eligible to apply to two Taicca funding initiatives: the Creative Content Development Program and the International Co-funding Program.
