Abigail Spencer Joins Josh Charles in Fox’s ‘Doc Martin’ Adaptation ‘Best Medicine’
Image
Abigail Spencer will star alongside Josh Charles in the upcoming Fox medical comedy “Best Medicine.”

The one-hour show, originally announced in May, is an American adaptation of the popular British series “Doc Martin.” Production is slated to begin this summer in upstate New York. The official description of the series states:

“The series centers on Martin Best (Charles), a brilliant surgeon who abruptly leaves his illustrious career in Boston to become the general practitioner in a quaint East Coast fishing village where he spent summers as a child. Unfortunately, Martin’s blunt and borderline rude bedside manner rubs the quirky, needy locals the wrong way, especially local school teacher Louisa Glasson (Spencer), however tenacity is the creed of everyone in their small village, and the people who live there may be exactly what the doctor ordered.”

Louisa Glasson was played by Caroline Catz in the British series. The character appeared...

‘Project Hail Mary’ Trailer: Ryan Gosling Tries to Salvage the Sun (and Save the Universe) in Astronaut Drama
Image
Ryan Gosling has already played a teacher (“Half Nelson”) and an astronaut (“First Man”), but with “Project Hail Mary,” he’s both. That’s right: Gosling is leading the feature as a middle school biology teacher who travels to space to save the universe.

The film, which is based on the bestselling book by “The Martian” author Andy Weir, centers on Ryland Grace (Gosling) who wakes up from a coma with amnesia. He gradually remembers that he was sent to the Tau Ceti solar system, 12 lightyears from Earth, to find a means of reversing a solar dimming event that could cause the extinction of humanity. Ryland has to travel through space to keep the Sun and every other star in the galaxy from dying.

The official synopsis reads: “Science teacher Ryland Grace (Gosling) wakes up on a spaceship light years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there.

Star Wars: Mia Goth Has Been Cast As The Villain In Shawn Levy's Starfighter Movie
Image
As Mia Goth's star continues to rise, the highly in-demand actress - who just recently wrapped on Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey - has booked a trip to the galaxy far, far away.

First reported by Jeff Sneider and since backed up by THR, Goth has been cast as the main villain in Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy's Star Wars: Starfighter. Details on her character are scant, but we do know that she'll play one of the people pursuing Ryan Gosling's unnamed hero and his teenage nephew.

THR also confirms that this is the part Anora star Mikey Madison was attached to before deciding to pass due to a money issue.

“The reality is that this script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters,” Gosling said during Star Wars Celebration Japan earlier this year. “It’s filled with so much heart and adventure,...

CinemaBlind’s Review – 75%

Nonnas is a heartwarming portrayal of a story about motherly love, food, and passion. It might not be one of the best Netflix originals film, but it is certainly a film that brought tears from my eyes and because of that I am full heartedly recommending for you to watch this film.

Directed by Stephen Chbosky from a screenplay by Liz Maccie, the upcoming Netflix film is based on the real life of Joe Scaravella, the owner of Staten Island restaurant Enoteca Maria. It follows Joe just after he loses his mother, and to honor the memories of his mother, Joe impulsively buys a restaurant with a plan to hire real nonnas as chefs.

Image
Ryan Gosling is calling on Anakin Skywalker for assistance. He’s awesome,” Christensen said. “I got to have dinner with him last night, and I know he’s really excited to now be in the ‘Star Wars’ family, and I’m excited for his film.”

"Its a Big Galaxy Out There": Shawn Levy Confirms 'Star Wars: Starfighter' Won't Be a Prequel or a Sequel
Image
Since 1977, every Star Wars movie to hit movie screens has been a sequel or a prequel, but that's about to change. Star Wars: Starfighter, which just had its release date and title announced at the Star Wars Celebration convention in Chiba, Japan, will be an all-new adventure set in the Star Wars galaxy. Collider's Maggie Lovitt was on the scene as director Shawn Levy discussed the film.

Lev was also able to explain when in the Star Wars universe it takes place, making it the first piece of Star Wars fiction to explore the aftermath of 2019's The Rise of Skywalker.

The movie is a new adventure, it's new characters. It takes place in a new period of time after the Battle of Exegol in Episode 9.

Ryan Gosling, who will star in the film, added that the plot of Star Wars: Starfighter "has so much adventure, so much heart,...

‘Your Friends and Neighbors’ changed how Amanda Peet thought of intimacy coordinators
Image
Amanda Peet isn’t necessarily interested in playing a long-suffering wife battling suburban ennui, so it’s a good thing she has a lead role as Mel on the Apple TV+ drama Your Friends and Neighbors from creator Jonathan Tropper (This Is Where I Leave You).

“A lot of times, when we see women in middle age, it’s sad, older women drinking white wine, lamenting the dating scene and, looking to get liposuction,” Peet tells Gold Derby. “The way Jonathan Tropper wrote Mel, she’s having great f--king sex, she’s torn between two men, and she’s keying a car — it just feels much more active and maybe less sad.”

Created by Tropper, Your Friends and Neighbors is a modern spin on domestic noir thrillers like Desperate Housewives and American Beauty. The show is focused on Andrew “Coop” Cooper (Jon Hamm), who in rapid succession loses his wife,...

Mikey Madison at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival premiere of Anora.
Mikey Madison will not be joining the cast of the upcoming Star Wars film being developed by director Shawn Levy. Sources familiar with the project confirmed that Madison was offered a role but has since passed on the opportunity.

The project, still untitled, is being written by Jonathan Tropper, whose credits include The Adam Project and This Is Where I Leave You. Levy is set to direct and produce through his 21 Laps banner, working in collaboration with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. Ryan Gosling remains attached to star.

Levy’s involvement with the film dates back to late 2022. The film is expected to operate outside the timeline of the Skywalker saga, with no direct connections to previous mainline entries. Further plot details have not been released.

Mikey Madison passes on role in Shawn Levy’s Star Wars movie

After winning the Academy Award for Best Actress for Anora, Mikey Madison has her pick of projects, and for a brief moment, one of those was Star Wars. According to The InSneider, Madison was rumoured to be in early talks to join the cast of Shawn Levy’s upcoming Star Wars movie, but Variety has now reported that the actress has passed on the role.

In addition to Star Wars, Sneider said that Madison was also considering an offer to star in Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil movie. Now that she’s passed on Star Wars, perhaps Resident Evil could be her next project.

Sneider added that Levy’s Star Wars movie is “currently casting the lead role, which is a 15-year-old boy, as well as the boy’s mother, plus two villains.” There’s another significant female character in the mix, which is the role Madison was being eyed for.

Mikey Madison at an event for The Oscars (2025)
Mikey Madison has passed on joining Ryan Gosling in an untitled “Star Wars” movie, according to an insider with knowledge of the project. Madison was previously being eyed to star and an offer was made.

Madison recently won the Best Actress Oscar for her role in “Anora.”

“Deadpool & Wolverine” filmmaker Shawn Levy is set to direct. “The Adam Project” writer Jonathan Tropper wrote the script.

Levy has been attached to the project since 2022 and additional details about the film are being kept under wraps. Tropper and Levy have previously collaborated on the 2014 family drama “This Is Where I Leave You,” as well as on the script for the Mark Raso-directed Netflix film “Kodachrome,” which Levy produced.

Previously, “Anora” writer-director Sean Baker’s interest in Madison was piqued by a role in the fifth installment of “Scream,” a 2022 film in which she (spoiler!) ends up killing David Arquette’s sheriff character.

Why Jonathan Tropper couldn’t have made ‘Your Friends and Neighbors’ without Jon Hamm
Image
As a novelist and screenwriter, Jonathan Tropper has a career many would envy. Trooper has written several significant feature films – including an adaptation of his novel This Is Where I Leave You — and created or written for multiple popular genre shows, including Banshee and Warrior. However, Your Friends and Neighbors is the first time he’s gotten to make the kind of television series that he always wanted.

“When I tried to sell TV 12 years ago, I was trying to sell shows like this, when nobody would buy them,” Tropper tells Gold Derby. “I ended up selling Banshee, and that put me on a track for the next 10 to 12 years of my life making action genre television. But making television is making television. I’ve learned all the skills about doing it, and I still cared about character, cared about tone. I understood how to write for production, revise for production,...

"It's on the Way": Jonathan Tropper Gives Explosive Update on Shawn Levy's 'Star Wars' Movie

Out of all the Star Wars projects that have been announced in recent memory, Shawn Levy’s mystery project is the most intriguing. With credits like Deadpool & Wolverine, Stranger Things, All We Imagine as Light, Levy has carved a niche for himself that is supported by fan favor and critics’ approval. So fans were excited when it was announced that he'd be helming a project, and things got even more interesting with Ryan Gosling joiningthe Galaxy Far, Far Away. While details on the project have been scarce, writer Jonathan Tropper revealed that the film will be dropping sooner than anticipated.

Shawn Levy's 'Star Wars' Writer Hopes Film Arrives "Sooner Than You Think"
Image
While the output of Star Wars series and specials has been consistent on the Disney+ streaming platform, Lucasfilm has struggled with getting its feature-length theatrical projects off the ground. Whether it is Rian Johnson's long-lost Star Wars trilogy, the Kevin Feige-produced project that was supposedly in development, or Patty Jenkins' Rogue Squadron movie that was shelved, it's been a difficult battle to get a Star Wars film made. One of the more recent films that's been reported on is Shawn Levy's untitled Star Wars feature that stars Ryan Gosling, which now has a new update that might have given fans insight into how far along it actually is.

In an interview with ScreenRant, screenwriter Jonathan Tropper talked about his work with Levy, and how his long-time working relationship with the director excites him for the Star Wars film, which Tropper is penning. The writer initially tried to keep quiet about the movie,...

Rumor: Jesse Plemons "Has The Offer" To Play The Villain In Shawn Levy's Star Wars Movie
Image
A recent rumor claimed that Jodie Comer might be in talks for an undisclosed role alongside Ryan Gosling in Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy's untitled Star Wars movie, and we're now hearing that Lucasfilm may have zeroed in on an actor to play the villain.

According to scooper Daniel Richtman, Jesse Plemons "has the offer" to play the mysterious film's big bad.

A separate rumor is claiming that Plemons is also being eyed to play a young Plutarch Heavensbee in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, so it'll be interesting to see if he winds up in one or both (unlikely) of these roles.

Plemons is no stranger to villainous roles, and was actually said to be in the running to play Kylo Ren in Star Wars: The Force Awakens prior to Adam Driver landing the part.

Apparently, the movie will "have a significantly smaller budget" than the previous Disney-era films,...

Olivia Munn was ready to quit acting until she read ‘Your Friends and Neighbors’
Image
After years of very public health struggles, Olivia Munn had decided to stop acting in front of the camera. Then she heard about Your Friends and Neighbors.

“I wanted to go behind the scenes. I wanted to write, edit, and produce,” Munn, who revealed her breast cancer diagnosis last year, tells Gold Derby. “I wasn’t going to make some big announcement as people do. I just said, ‘Please, just don’t put me out there anymore.’”

However, Munn found the project almost irresistible when she heard about the new Apple TV+ drama from creator Jonathan Tropper (This Is Where I Leave You) with Jon Hamm in the lead role. Your Friends and Neighbors stars Hamm as Andrew “Coop” Cooper, an obnoxiously wealthy hedge-fund manager who loses his job soon after splitting from his wife, Mel (Amanda Peet). Running out of savings, he starts stealing from his unsuspecting friends and neighbors,...

Star Wars: Jodie Comer Rumored To Be In Talks To Join Ryan Gosling In Shawn Levy's Mysterious Movie
Image
Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy's untitled Star Wars movie took a hyperspace jump forward with the casting of Ryan Gosling in the lead role back in January, and we now have word on who might be set to join him as the project's female lead.

According to scooper Mttsh, Jodie Comer is in talks for an undisclosed role.

As fans will no doubt be aware, Comer has already taken a trip to the galaxy far, far away as Rey's (Daisy Ridley) biological mother in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Comer only made a very brief appearance in a flashback scene, bidding farewell to her daughter on Jakku before being executed by Emperor Palpatine's agents.

Comer has previously worked with Levy on Free Guy.

Apparently, the movie will "have a significantly smaller budget" than the previous Disney-era films, and is described as "a more contained" story. Gosling's...

‘Your Friends and Neighbors’: Early reviews praise Jon Hamm’s return to series TV
Image
Jon Hamm is back.

The Emmy Award-winning Mad Men star returns to series television in a lead role for the first time since the AMC drama concluded a decade ago this May with Your Friends and Neighbors. The Apple TV+ drama stars Hamm as a extremely wealthy hedge fund manager named Andrew “Coop” Cooper, whose idyllic life is thrown asunder after his wife, Mel (Amanda Peet), leaves him for a former professional basketball player, and he loses his job.

Apple lifted the review embargo for the show on Tuesday, and critics have already begun to praise the drama and Hamm’s performance.

“Jon Hamm has his best role since Mad Men,” Caryn James wrote for the BBC. “If you took Don Draper and dropped him into 2025 he might be Coop, a corporate man with a broken marriage and two teenaged children, a decent guy and a charmer with all-around bad judgement.

‘Your Friends and Neighbors’ trailer: Jon Hamm returns as a series television lead for the first time since ‘Mad Men’
Image
Emmy Award winner Jon Hamm is back in the drama space for the first time since Mad Men. The erstwhile Don Draper actor, a double Emmy Award nominee last year for his supporting performances on Apple TV+ drama The Morning Show and FX limited series Fargo, stars on the new Apple TV+ drama series Your Friends and Neighbors. It marks Hamm’s first lead drama role on television since the end of Mad Men.

In the show, Hamm plays Andrew “Coop” Cooper, a hedge fund manager fired in disgrace who is still grappling with his recent divorce. Pushed to the brink and with a dwindling savings account, Coop resorts to stealing from his neighbors' homes in the exceedingly affluent Westmont Village, only to discover that the secrets and affairs hidden behind those wealthy facades might be more dangerous than he ever imagined.

Shawn Levy's Star Wars Movie Gets a Promising Update
Image
It's official: Shawn Levy's untitled Star Wars feature will be the franchise's next movie to enter production. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy shared the exciting update while clarifying a recent report claiming she was exiting the company at the end of the year.

Speaking with Deadline, Kennedy confirmed that she is currently producing The Mandalorian & Grogu and "Shawn Levy’s movie, which is after that." The Lucasfilm president also shared some story details for the untitled movie, confirming that it is set "in the future. It’s all post-[the first] nine. Shawn’s is a standalone Star Wars story that’ll take place post-nine, maybe five or six years out." Kennedy added that while Levy's movie is expected to feature "pretty much new characters," some characters from the sequel trilogy may be brought back. "We may bring some of the characters back from the sequel saga, but pretty much new characters,...

Deadpool And Wolverine Director Shawn Levy's Star Wars Film Will Reportedly Feature A "Jedi Padawan" Character
Image
Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy's untitled Star Wars movie took a hyperspace jump forward with the casting of Ryan Gosling in the lead role back in January, but plot details are still very much under wraps.

Now, scooper Mttsh has shared some new rumors relating to the mysterious project.

Apparently, the movie will "have a significantly smaller budget" than the previous Disney-era films, and is described as "a more contained" story. Gosling's unnamed lead is also said to be accompanied by a younger character who is a Jedi Padawan.

This had led to speculation that the movie could be set in an era when the Jedi were still active (likely before the events of A New Hope), but Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy has since confirmed that it will actually be a post-The Rise of Skywalker story.

Levy has been developing the script with Jonathan Tropper since 2022, and is...

Ryan Gosling in Talks to Star in Shawn Levy’s ‘Star Wars’ Movie
Image
Ryan Gosling is in talks to star in a new “Star Wars” film, this one from director Shawn Levy, according to multiple media reports, representing one of the first major developments in the feature film plans for the “Star Wars” brand.

Levy’s project has been in development for years — all the way back to 2022 — with others being added to the overall slate since then. But with Gosling potentially joining the galaxy far, far away, it’s a big shot in the arm to the franchise and makes it likely this would be the next feature film to go.

Lucasfilm and reps for Gosling did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

For this one, Jonathan Tropper is writing the script, reuniting with Levy and his 21 Laps production banner after working together on “This Is Where I Leave You” and “The Adam Project.” But it’s unclear what era...

Ryan Gosling in Talks to Star in Shawn Levy’s ‘Star Wars’ Movie
Image
Ryan Gosling is in talks to star in Shawn Levy’s untitled “Star Wars” movie, according to an insider with knowledge of the project.

Levy is well aware of the number of directors who’ve developed “Star Wars” movies in the past that did not get made — and he’s committed to getting his project across the finish line.

Previously, he acknowledged the odds against him, but enthusiastically stated his intention to develop a film worth making. “I’ve been talking with Kathy Kennedy for a while now, and...

Image
The Force is with Ryan Gosling.

The “Barbie” and “La La Land” star is in negotiations to star in an untitled “Star Wars” movie to be directed by “Deadpool & Wolverine” filmmaker Shawn Levy. Screenwriter Jonathan Tropper has been writing the screenplay for the film, which Levy has been developing since late 2022. Levy — who will join the rarefied club of directors who’ve worked with both Canadian movie stars named Ryan — is also producing via 21 Laps, along with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.

The movie is said to be a standalone project that isn’t connected with the Skywalker Saga, which concluded with 2019’s “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” All other plot details are encased in carbonite for the foreseeable future.

But Gosling’s involvement could jump the project into light speed, moving it to the pole position of Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars” film development slate ahead of projects involving directors James Mangold,...

Ryan Gosling In Talks For Shawn Levy’s ‘Star Wars’ Movie
Image
We hear that it’s true — the Barbie superstar is in talks to join Shawn Levy’s Star Wars movie.

Levy and Jonathan Tropper have been working on their Star Wars movie for two years. There is an untitled Star Wars movie on the release calendar for December 17, 2027. The next Star Wars movie is The Mandalorian and Grogu scheduled for May 22, 2026. Tropper co-wrote the Levy movies The Adam Project and This Is Where I Leave You.

Levy is a must-have, must-keep director for Disney: he delivered them the highest grossing R-rated movie of all-time with Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine which grossed $1.33 billion worldwide.

While details are under wraps for the latest Lucasfilm movie, it is reportedly not connected to the Luke Skywalker core canon of Episodes I-ix, and will be a standalone movie. The new hope out there is that it goes into production this fall. Duly note, there...

‘Star Wars’ Shocker: Ryan Gosling in Talks to Star in Shawn Levy’s Movie (Exclusive)
Image
Ryan Gosling is headed to the great galaxy far, far away.

The three-time Oscar nominee is in negotiations to topline the Star Wars feature project that will be directed by Deadpool & Wolverine filmmaker Shawn Levy.

Details on any Star Wars project are harder to acquire than plans for an orbital planet killer, and this one is no exception. Levy has been developing his Star Wars feature since 2022 and Jonathan Tropper, who collaborated with Levy on films such as This Is Where I Leave You and The Adam Project, has been working on a script for over a year. Levy is also producing the feature via his 21 Laps banner, joining Star Wars stewards Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm.

It is unclear when Levy’s project is set. Star Wars stories have run the gamut of hundreds of years, detailing the goings-on of a galactic republic-turned-dictatorship-turned-rebellion. It’s also unclear if it concerns Jedis and their enemies,...

Adam Driver’s Sci-Fi Thriller Getting New Streaming Home Nearly 2 Years After $60M Disappointment
Image
As much as Adam Driver's career has reached some impressive highs, it has been met with some notable lows. On the one hand, Driver has been a part of some major moneymakers over the past decade. All three of his Star Wars movies made over $1 billion, with Star Wars: The Force Awakens making just shy of $2.1 billion. On the other hand, however, Driver has played roles in films that have lost boatloads of money. Most infamously, he played the lead in Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis, which made a mere $13.8 million on an $120 million budget.

The same disparity applies to the critical reception of Driver's films as well. The actor has been a part of indie darlings like Frances Ha and Inside Llewyn Davis that have earned Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes scores of over 90%. His work has been praised in similarly high-scoring movies like Paterson and Marriage Story. On the other hand,...

Adam Driver's Mixed-Reviewed $15M Zombie Movies Surges On Netflix's US Top 10 Charts 5 Years Later
Image
Adam Driver's career has starkly divided both critics and audiences. The actor's strong points have been quite so, with films such as BlacKkKlansman and Paterson scoring a universally positive 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. Driver's career has also included several other movies with Rotten Tomatoes scores in the 90s, including early indie hits such as Frances Ha and Inside Llewyn Davis as well as mainstream favorites like Star Wars: The Force Awakens. On the other hand, the actor's lows have gone pretty low, including his 36% Tomatometer for 65 and 44% for This is Where I Leave You.

What is odd about Driver is that even his better-rated movies have been the subject of mockery and memes. This most notably includes Marriage Story, which, despite earning Driver an Oscar nomination and strong critical reviews, has been the subject of ridicule in the years since its release. This year, Driver was in the mixed-reviewed Megalopolis,...
