Exclusive: Dolphin Entertainment has acquired Kellie Madison’s horror film script The Wall. Madison will direct. Tom Ortenberg will co-produce through his Briarcliff Entertainment banner.
The Wall tells the supernatural story of a young woman who is forced to unlock memories of a traumatic event after removing a mysterious painting from the wall of her rented apartment.
This adds to the development slate of Dolphin, the content creation arm of the company that owns 42West and The Door. Emerson Davis will oversee this film for Dolphin. Ortenberg started the production/distribution Briarcliff after exiting the distribution company he created, Open Road. He released such films as the Oscar-winning Spotlight, Monster’s Ball and Crash.
“Kellie Madison is a terrific new talent,” said Ortenberg, who is Briarcliff’s CEO. “The Wall is a smart and scary script that takes a familiar genre and turns it on its head.”

This interview was, perhaps, my greatest challenge. Interview an actor about a movie that no one knows anything about, no one is allowed to know anything (not even the actors), and the premiere date is sketchy at best. Canadian actor Patrick Gilmore has starred in Stargate, The Killing, and Dear Mr. Gacy. He also has a role in Joss Whedon's infamous Cabin in the Woods. Whedon promises the horror film will be a "game changer," but he won't allow a hint of plot to be revealed, even though the flick has been in the can for over two years now. So what exactly did Patrick and I talk about? What can you tell us about your role in Cabin in the Woods? [Laughs]. Well, it has been described as...

Director: Svetozar Ristovski. Review: Adam Wing. Also known as Dear Mr. Gacy, Svetozar Ristovski’s (Mirage) worthwhile drama chronicles the life of serial killer John Wayne Gacy, Jr. Also known as the Killer Clown, he committed the rape and murder of 33 teenage boys and young men between 1972 and 1978. Twenty-six of Gacy's victims were buried in his home; three on his property and four were discarded in a nearby river. Gacy became known as the "Killer Clown" due to his services at fundraising events, parades and children's parties where he would dress as "Pogo the Clown," a character he created himself. Jason Michael Moss was an American writer on serial killers. While studying at Unlv for his honours thesis, he established relationships with John Wayne Gacy, Richard Ramirez, Henry Lee Lucas, Jeffrey Dahmer, and Charles Manson. Moss later said that, of all the serial killers he corresponded with, he formed the...

This Canadian made for television production aired back in May 2010 under the title Dear Mr. Gacy and has been re-titled and distributed on DVD for a UK release. The Last Victim continues in same vein as other low budget serial killer thrillers from the past few years, this time, focusing on ‘killer clown’ John Wayne Gacy.
Serial killers and their macabre stories fascinate audiences. We’ve had a string of flicks on modern subjects such as The Hillside Strangler, Ted Bundy, Richard Ramirez and Eileen Wuornos. Funnily enough the producer of Monster is behind this very picture.
The Last Victim is given a great deal of lift by actor William Forsythe. He’s the reason, perhaps the only one, for seeing this film. Gacy presented here is a rather camp, overly friendly and highly delusional figure. He won’t admit he’s done anything wrong at all and believes himself...

The icing on the cake though was the presentation itself, Svetozar Ristovski’s The Last Victim (2010) based on the book of the same name. It deals with the relationship between college student Jason Moss and notorious serial killer John Wayne Gacy who was convicted of the murder of 33 individuals, mostly young boys whom he raped, tortured and buried in his basement.

If you actually ventured past your multiplex and watched horror films other then the uninspired "A Nightmare on Elm Street" remake, the strictly putting it in 3D for the money "My Soul to Take", the pointless remake of Let The Right One In entitled "Let Me In", the lifeless remake of "The Crazies" and other mostly bland mainstream horror releases that made up 2010, you would discover a wonderful world of indie horror films that stood out. George A. Romero showed that he's still got it with Survival of the Dead. Comedy and horror were brought together seamlessly (for once!) in President's Day & All About Evil. And plenty of other terrific independent films stood out. However, it wasn't all rosy for the independent horror films of 2010, as they also produced some highly publicized stinkers or films that finally came off the shelf after gathering dust for years. Still, for once, 2010 had...

Despite a healthy array of mustaches, serial killer/true crime films are hardly ever very intriguing. Mostly relegated to Dtv, the subgenre likes to boast of getting into the minds of mass murderers but more frequently comes across formulaic and mediocre, and while the latest, Dear Mr. Gacy (available now from Anchor Bay), is shrouded in positive buzz, we have to ask ourselves, does "better than expected" necessarily equal good?...

Forsythe Wants To Terrify Teens With Gacy Portrayal
Actor William Forsythe hopes teens see his new movie portrayal of serial killer John Wayne Gacy - because it might make them think twice before befriending strangers.
Gacy, dubbed The Killer Clown, raped and murdered 33 teenage boys between 1972 and 1978.
Forsythe admits playing such a sick character in the film Dear Mr. Gacy was a real challenge, and he wants teenage boys to see the movie and steer clear of strangers.
He says, "I want teenagers to see this movie because it's a story about being careful. Today in pop culture all these kids want to dabble in evil and be like these evil guys and put up the horns. I want kids to realise that there's real evil out there.
"There's a naivete that's going on about evil that is so troubling in the world right now and that's the reason I did the movie.
"I've had young people come up to me and go, 'Dude, wow you played Gacy; he's one of my heroes.' I get so mad and look at them and say, 'You gotta be kidding me. How would you like to have all 300 of his pounds sitting on you choking you out with your own underwear while he's raping you and torturing you and murdering you slowly?'

Forsythe Spooked By Gacy Dreams
Actor William Forsythe was haunted by John Wayne Gacy while portraying the serial killer for a hard-hitting new movie - his sleep was interrupted by weird dreams and he couldn't shake the character after filming wrapped.
The Rock star thought it would be a challenge to play Gacy in Dear Mr. Gacy - the movie based on the book The Last Victim by criminology student Jason Moss, who corresponded with the sick killer while he was on death row - but he had no idea just how much the research would play with his mind.
Forsythe tells BlogTalkRadio.com, "I began to have crazy dreams and very realistic. The dreams that I was having were basically (from) Gacy's perspective... It was a lot of dreams, where I would be driving along in a car and looking out the window and I was seeing faces of boys standing on corners talking and just seeing them from his perspective.
"It's chilling because these dreams were exactly what John Wayne Gacy would do. I put together a slide show of the photographs of his victims and I couldn't get through that slide show without emotionally breaking down. It was so disturbing to see the faces of these young innocent boys that he lured in under the guise of being a nice guy."
Forsythe also struggled to get Gacy out of his life after the movie - because so many people wanted to talk to him about the portrayal.
He adds, "I was conscious of how disturbing the journey would be. This was a journey from hell for me and I'll never look back and have anything to do with John Wayne Gacy again because it's over for me. I literally just turned on the Beach Boys and went back to being a blond. I tried to surf my way out of it in a way and go to a whole other place.
"I almost feel bad about it because the doors that I opened up in Chicago research-wise, I had to stop talking to those people for at least this past year because I just didn't want to talk about John Wayne Gacy. These are good people in their own right, particularly his best friend Barry (Boschelli), who was a victim of John... He was the nicest guy and I owe him so much for the understanding of who Gacy was but I found I couldn't return his phone calls after awhile. I'm going to call him again but I had to get away from Gacy."...

This week is the lightest in recent memory with only four (barely) notable horror releases. Synapse Films' 100th release, Robert Young’s classic Vampire Circus, will be gracing our screens and so will Dear Mr. Gacy, the adaptation of The Last Victim, the memoirs of Jason Moss, who corresponded with serial killer John Wayne Gacy. Read on to see what the other two are.
Vampire Circus (1972)

The time was the Fifties. "He was short, and his hair was slicked back. His shoes were scuffed. "What is your name?" I asked. He looked at me and said "My name is John...Wayne...Gacy. We shook hands. Right at that moment, sir, there's no doubt, I knew that he was different from anyone that I ever knew." So says Barry Boschelli, the childhood friend of one of the most dangerous and psychotic men to ever walk the planet.
I was asked by Anchor Bay to do this interview in promotion of its latest film, Dear Mr. Gacy (review here), a reality based look at the last known relationship Gacy ever had with a young student named Jason Moss (who also went on to write his own book about his experiences entitled The Last Victim). I'm always ready to jump into an interview, but this time I was a little perplexed.

August 15 has come and gone with no news about the actors' contracts getting picked up for a second season or any word on what Syfy is thinking these days, but with the cast appearing in about a gazillion other things this fall, the hiatus blues should be getting easier.
If you're in New York some time between September and January, you can catch a short film, Untitled, with Eric Stoltz starring, at MoMA (see article.)
No release date has been set yet for his last feature, Fort McCoy (pic left), but IMDb still says 2010, so fingers crossed.
And this is still unconfirmed, but an extras casting director tweeted yesterday that our daddy Graystone will direct one of the new episodes of Glee. If true, the episode should air in the first half of the season. The show returns on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 8 on Fox.

The Rig BannerHow appropriate is this? An oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico is threatened to go down and take the oil workers in to the depths. Bp will not be getting all the publicity for oil spills as the relatively new director Peter Atencio brings The Rig to DVD in 2010, with help from Anchor Bay Studios. William Forsythe (Dear Mr. Gacy), Art Lafleur ("The Mentalist"), Marcus Paulk (Take the Lead), Serah D'Laine (Parasomnia) and Stacey Hinnen (Sharpshooter) will be those trying to stay alive as a mysterious creature goes about his/her/its business of murder. Watch out Bp there is someone even worse on the prowl.
The synopsis for The Rig here:
"As a hurricane rages outside, the small but experienced crew of an oil drilling rig settles in to ride out the storm. Isolated on the rig, their calm is short lived when a crew member...

We haven't heard much lately about Dear Mr. Gacy, the film adaptation of The Last Victim, the memoirs of Jason Moss, who corresponded with serial killer John Wayne Gacy; but today brought forth a bonanza of information, including a teaser, a clip, and the chance for members of the Dread Central community to ask star William Forsythe any questions they might have regarding the new film and/or his portrayal of Gacy.
Currently Dear Mr. Gacy producer Clark Peterson is focusing on the social promotion aspect for the film, which is due out next year. An official site was recently launched, and in addition Forsythe will be doing a video shoot in the Chicago area next Monday and Tuesday, December 14 and 15, 2009. The actor will be talking to several of Gacy's old acquaintances and his defense attorney, as well as detectives that were on the famous case, which celebrates its 30th anniversary next year.

The producer and cinematographer of "Monster" are taking on another female-themed drama.
Clark Peterson, who produced the Charlize Theron-toplined Oscar winner, and Steven Bernstein, who served as its Dp, will collaborate on "Decoding Annie Parker," a story of the discovery of the breast-cancer gene. Peterson will produce and Bernstein will make his directorial debut.
The movie centers on Parker, a real-life breast-cancer patient who believed her illness had a genetic component, and weaves in the story of the researchers whose mission it was to determine the role DNA plays in the deadly disease.
Doctors dismissed Parker's beliefs, but she was ahead of her time: The group's research eventually led to the discovery of BRCA1, which is associated with breast and ovarian cancer.
Screenwriter Michael Moss, a doctor who knew of Parker's story from medical circles, is penning the screenplay. Tom Berry's Reel One Entertainment is financing, with Berry exec producing.
