As the year-end holidays start to become everyone’s main focus here’s a documentary feature that zeros in on the desired destination of travelers…home. But what if it’s denied you? Is it worth fighting for, even risking imprisonment? That’s the focus of this film, the value of the home, and most importantly the land. Sounds a bit similar to the epic docudrama arriving today from Martin Scorsese, eh? Now, that’s set one hundred years ago with murder stemming from a lust for oil-rich land. This doc concerns the lust for water, rather than oil. It’s a valued beachfront property. Plus it all happened in the last dozen or so years. Despite all the nefarious plans of developers, could anyone possibly displace the families on Silver Dollar Road?
Oh, and unlike the other big film this weekend, we’re not talking about a tribe, but another minority.

Matthew Vaughn plans to reboot the Kick-Ass franchise and aims to start filming in 2024, with ideas for the original characters to return in a potential sequel. The original Kick-Ass movie changed people's perception of superhero films and was a box office success, while the sequel was less successful and received negative reviews. Vaughn's busy schedule may impact his involvement in the reboot, but if his commitment is similar to his other comic adaptations, there is hope for the franchise to be redeemed and for the return of beloved characters.
With a decade gone since the last movie came out, Matthew Vaughn has re-confirmed his Kick-Ass reboot plans and given a filming timeline. Based on Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.'s graphic novels of the same name, the first two movies centered on geeky teenager Dave Lizewski as he sought out to become a real-life superhero, eventually becoming embroiled...

Anyone who grew up in the 1970s can tell you the story of a lovely lady, who was bringing up three very lovely girls, and a man named Brady, who was busy with three boys of his own. Of course, one day, the lady met this fellow, and the rest is TV history. When Carol Martin (Florence Henderson) married Mike Brady (Robert Reed), all six of their children came together, along with their trusty maid Alice (Ann B. Davis), to become the sitcom family known as "The Brady Bunch."
"The Brady Bunch" is one of the most beloved and memorable sitcoms of all time. The adolescent antics of Greg (Barry Williams), Peter (Christopher McKnight), Bobby (Mike Lookinland), Marcia (Maureen McCormick), Jan (Eve Plumb), and Cindy (Susan Olsen) made for plenty of comedy and drama as the bunch dealt with the trials and tribulations of a blended family, sibling rivalries, growing up,...

The list of things you can call "all-American" and not mean it in a bad way grows smaller and smaller as time marches ever onward, but today the title solemnly fits: we lost a true all-American star in Dick Butkus. The trailblazing football player and Hall of Fame inductee, widely considered one of the best linebackers who ever lived, has died at the age of 80. The Butkus family released a statement earlier today announcing that Butkus had passed "peacefully in his sleep overnight." George H. McCaskey, the Chairman of Butkus' career-long team, the Chicago Bears, released his own statement shortly after memorializing Butkus thusly:
"Dick was the ultimate Bear, and one of the greatest players in NFL history. He was Chicago's son. He exuded what our great city is about and, not coincidentally, what George Halas looked for in a player: toughness, smarts, instincts, passion and leadership."

Former child actor and Jaws 2 star Marc Gilpin has passed away.
Per People, it's been reported that Gilpin died on Saturday in Dallas following a battle with gliobastoma, a form of brain cancer. He'd first been diagnosed last year, which resulted in loved ones setting up a GoFundMe to help pay for mounting medical expenses. According to the fundraiser description, there were two tumors found in Gilpin's brain, and one could not be physically removed due to its location. After a new growth was found in April, Gilpin began stronger chemotherapy treatments before ultimately losing his battle this past weekend. He was 56 years old.
"Marc is an amazingly strong man and he wants to continue the battle," reads a statement posted to the GoFundMe page in May by Gilpin's wife, Kaki Gilpin. "So do I and our boys. Any parent would be so proud of their kids if you could...

Marc Gilpin, best known for portraying the son of Chief Martin Brody in the sequel to “Jaws,” has died at the age of 56.
Peri Gilpin, known for her role as Roz Doyle in “Frasier,” announced that her older brother had passed on Saturday following a long battle with glioblastoma.
Gilpin played Sean Brody in 1978’s “Jaws 2.” He starred alongside Roy Scheider as Brody, Lorraine Gary as Brody’s wife Ellen and his sister, April Gilpin.

While another great white shark is loose around Amity Island, Mike takes his little brother on an ill-fated boating trip. When it comes to horror movies at the box office, Sony resurrected its track record this past weekend with the opening of Blumhouse/Stage 6 Films’ fifthquel, Insidious: The Red Door which had a $32.65M domestic opening, $64M Worldwide debut.
On the domestic front, that’s the second best horror opening for Sony after 2004’s The Grudge which debuted to $39.1M. It’s also the second best domestic debut for an Insidious movie after Chapter 2‘s $40.2M opening. Even more amazing, this 13-year-old horror franchise stole the No. 1 thunder away from Disney/Lucasfilm’s legacy sequel Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny which only did $26.5M in weekend two.
While Sony pre-pandemic had horror sleepers such as Don’t Breathe and Escape Room, the Culver City lot wasn’t reaping the riches of genre post Covid like Paramount, Universal and Warner Bros. Now, Sony has posted a U.S./Canada start...

As far as genre-play goes, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 Episode 4 is the first foray into horror this season.
Rather than being preyed upon by the Gorn or confounded by a shocking alien cultural practice, Pike is confronted by a past mission that has haunted him, only to lose his memory and identity in a terrifying spiral into cognitive oblivion.
Meanwhile, the ship's survival relies on Ortegas knowing who she is despite forgetting everything about herself. It's a true dilemma -- can you still have a sense of self without any recall of the details?
Our favorite pilot is very much defined by her role as helmsman. Ortegas is the quintessential hotshot highflyer. She embodies the spirit of Maverick, Han Solo, and Firefly's Wash, all rolled into the Starfleet uniform.
She's a character that knows her worth and recognizes that her integral value to the crew is in her skills.

Four years ago, it was announced that Blumhouse Productions and director Jeff Wadlow were teaming up again for a movie based on the Mattel toy Magic 8 Ball. Yes, the ball that you ask questions and then turn over to see which of twenty possible answers you might get. Since so much time has passed since that announcement was made, it’s not clear if Blumhouse or Wadlow are still involved with the project – but The New Yorker has revealed that Magic 8 Ball is still in the works, and Cocaine Bear screenwriter Jimmy Warden is writing the horror comedy.

As TV academy voters fill out their 2023 Emmy Awards nominations ballots, they will have to consider 163 shows for Best Drama Series. This is only down by eight compared to last year. After six years of not having to limit their choices in any categories, members can now not let their selections exceed the number of eventual nominations for a given award, which will be eight in this case.
2020 and 2022 champ “Succession” is in the hunt for its third win in this category and will potentially only have to fend off two of its seven rivals from last year. “Better Call Saul” and “Yellowjackets” returned in time to meet the eligibility window of June 1, 2022 to May 31, 2023, while “Euphoria,” “Severance,” “Squid Game,” and “Stranger Things” did not. The last remaining 2022 contender, “Ozark,” officially finished its four-season run last April. Also back in the running are former winners “The Handmaid’s Tale” (2017) and “The Crown” (2021).

A few months ago, we heard that director Jeff Wadlow and Blumhouse Productions – who had previously collaborated on the 2018 film Truth or Dare and the 2020 horror version of Fantasy Island – were teaming up for a new horror project called Imaginary, and Lionsgate has acquired the worldwide rights to the film. Wadlow has written the screenplay for Imaginary with Greg Erb, Jason Oremland, and Bryce McGuire, crafting a story that sounds like a horror take on the 1991 comedy Drop Dead Fred: A young woman returns to her childhood home only to discover that the imaginary friend she left behind is very real and very unhappy she left.
Lionsgate and Blumhouse are co-financing the project. Lionsgate and Blumhouse previously worked together on the 2012 release Sinister. Wadlow is producing the film alongside Blumhouse founder Jason Blum.

The renewal comes as little surprise, given the fact that the show is Fox’s first wholly owned live-action comedy. Per Fox, the show’s premiere was the network’s most streamed scripted debut ever, drawing an estimated 4.5 million viewers across all platforms in its first three days of availability.
As the name suggests, the series centers on a group of animal control workers. The cast is led by Joel McHale, who stars alongside Michael Rowland, Vella Lovell, Ravi Patel, Grace Palmer, Alvina August, Kelli Ogmundson, and Gerry Dee.
“We are thrilled our viewers have responded to ‘Animal Control’ as much as we did,” said Michael Thorn, president of scripted programming for Fox Entertainment. “The incredibly talented ensemble cast, led by Joel McHale, along with our creative team, Bob Fisher, Rob Greenberg, Dan Sterling and Tad Quill – not...

One of broadcast TV's best shows is over, and this one hurts.
Fox announced late Tuesday that it had canceled Fantasy Island.
The news broke less than 24 hours after the Fantasy Island Season 2 finale.
"We were very pleased with Fantasy Island's fun and escapist creative, which we had hoped would gain strong traction among viewers," the network said in a statement, adding:
"We'd also like to thank Fantasy Island's cast, led by Roselyn Sánchez, Kiara Barnes and John Gabriel Rodriquez, crew and executive producers Liz Craft, Sarah Fain and Anne Clements for their partnership on the series."
Fantasy Island averaged 2.8 million viewers and a 0.3 rating in its final season with Live + 7 playback included.
