As the year-end holidays start to become everyone’s main focus here’s a documentary feature that zeros in on the desired destination of travelers…home. But what if it’s denied you? Is it worth fighting for, even risking imprisonment? That’s the focus of this film, the value of the home, and most importantly the land. Sounds a bit similar to the epic docudrama arriving today from Martin Scorsese, eh? Now, that’s set one hundred years ago with murder stemming from a lust for oil-rich land. This doc concerns the lust for water, rather than oil. It’s a valued beachfront property. Plus it all happened in the last dozen or so years. Despite all the nefarious plans of developers, could anyone possibly displace the families on Silver Dollar Road?

Oh, and unlike the other big film this weekend, we’re not talking about a tribe, but another minority.

Matthew Vaughn plans to reboot the Kick-Ass franchise and aims to start filming in 2024, with ideas for the original characters to return in a potential sequel. The original Kick-Ass movie changed people's perception of superhero films and was a box office success, while the sequel was less successful and received negative reviews. Vaughn's busy schedule may impact his involvement in the reboot, but if his commitment is similar to his other comic adaptations, there is hope for the franchise to be redeemed and for the return of beloved characters.

Dick Butkus, one of the most celebrated linebackers in NFL history who played eight seasons for the Chicago Bears before turning to a career as an actor and sports commentator, died Thursday in Malibu. He was 80 years old.

The Butkus family released a statement through the Chicago Bears organization, confirming his death.

“The Butkus family confirms that football and entertainment legend Dick Butkus died peacefully in his sleep overnight at home in Malibu, California. The Butkus family is gathering with Dick’s wife Helen. They appreciate your prayers and support,” the statement reads.

A Chicago native, Butkus was drafted by his hometown team in 1965 after a breakthrough college football career that saw him lead the University of Illinois to a Rose Bowl victory in 1963. During his time with the Bears, Butkus twice won defensive player of the year, appeared in eight Pro Bowls and was named to first-team All-Pro five times.

Shelley Smith, who starred with Martin Short on ABC sitcom The Associates, has died. She was 70 and her death from cardiac arrest came on Aug. 8.

Smith died at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital, according to her husband of 18 years, actor Michael Maguire.

Shelley Smith, the ’70s super model turned actor known for her work on “The Associates” and “For Love and Honor,” died Tuesday after going into cardiac arrest days earlier. She was 70.

Smith died at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital, her husband Michael Maguire said in a video posted to Facebook on Wednesday.

“She loved helping people. Most of all, she helped me. She made me a much better person than I ever would have been. Former child actor and Jaws 2 star Marc Gilpin has passed away.

Per People, it's been reported that Gilpin died on Saturday in Dallas following a battle with gliobastoma, a form of brain cancer. He'd first been diagnosed last year, which resulted in loved ones setting up a GoFundMe to help pay for mounting medical expenses. According to the fundraiser description, there were two tumors found in Gilpin's brain, and one could not be physically removed due to its location. After a new growth was found in April, Gilpin began stronger chemotherapy treatments before ultimately losing his battle this past weekend. He was 56 years old.

As a child actor, Marc Gilpin played Martin Brody’s (Roy Scheider) young son Sean Brody in Jaws 2 (1978), the very first sequel to Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster horror classic.

After answering a casting call, Gilpin beat out hundreds of other boys to get hired as Sean Brody in the 1978 sequel to the blockbuster Jaws (1975), directed by Steven Spielberg. He was 11 when the movie reached theaters.

Jaws 2 was directed by Jeannot Szwarc. Lorraine Gary returned as Chief Brody’s wife, but their sons, Michael and Sean, portrayed by Chris Rebello and Jay Mello in the original, were replaced by Mark Gruner and Gilpin in the second film.

A year later, Gilpin guest-starred on NBC’s CHiPs and appeared with his younger sister, April, on ABC’s Fantasy Island. In 1981, he was in the films The Legend of the Long Ranger and Earthbound.

A coroner’s investigation into the death of Adam Rich determined the Eight Is Enough child star died from an accidental overdose of fentanyl.

Rich, the former ’70s and ’80s child star best known for his page-boy haircut and role on the ABC dramedy, died five months ago, on Jan. 7, at age 54, and his body was discovered at his Los Angeles residence.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner said in its report that the death was from effects of the powerful opioid. The cause and manner of the child star’s death was ruled an accident.

Rich’s TV credits included The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, The City and 3-2-1. But he was best known for his role over five seasons on the ABC dramedy Eight Is Enough, which starred Dick Van Patten, and played Nicholas Bradford beginning at 8 years old. The show kicked off a nearly three-decade screen career for Rich.

Eight Is Enough alum Adam Rich‘s death has been ruled an accident due to the effects of fentanyl, according to the Los Angeles County Medical-Examiner Coroner’s office via Associated Press.

Rich was found dead at his home on Jan. 7. Family members had confirmed the news to TMZ, but did not reveal a cause of death at that time.

After six years of not having to limit their choices in any categories, members can now not let their selections exceed the number of eventual nominations for a given award, which will be eight in this case.

2020 and 2022 champ “Succession” is in the hunt for its third win in this category and will potentially only have to fend off two of its seven rivals from last year. “Better Call Saul” and “Yellowjackets” returned in time to meet the eligibility window of June 1, 2022 to May 31, 2023, while “Euphoria,” “Severance,” “Squid Game,” and “Stranger Things” did not. Barry Newman, best known for starring in the action-thriller “Vanishing Point”, has died. He was 92.

Newman’s wife, Angela, confirmed the news of Newman’s death to The Hollywood Reporter on Sunday. The actor died of natural causes on May 11 at the NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

Newman had a number of smaller screen roles and performed on Broadway until he was cast in the 1971 car chase classic “Vanishing Point”, by director Richard C. Sarafian. He starred as a former race car driver named Kowalski who drives a Dodge Challenger across the US while avoiding cops and getting entangled in a deadly criminal conspiracy.

The film went on to be a cult classic and genre-defining epic that went on to be revered for its action set-pieces and proved to be influential on the next generation of blockbuster filmmakers.

Ms Jacky Oh! has died. The former Wild ‘N Out star, whose real name is Jacklyn Smith, has died, according to a post on the show’s Instagram page. She was 32.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Jacklyn Smith, known to the world as Jacky Oh, a talented Wild ‘N Out family member whose impact will be forever treasured and missed,” a BET Media Group spokesperson wrote. “Jacky Oh was a loving friend and beloved colleague of the Wild ‘N Out cast throughout five seasons. More importantly, she was a tremendous mother to three beautiful children.”

“The BET Media Group extends our sincere condolences to the Smith family, DC Young Fly, B Simone, Nick Cannon, and all friends who loved and cared for Jacky Oh during this difficult time,” the post concluded.

A rep for Calderón confirmed the sad news Wednesday, telling Et, that the actor was surrounded by family at the time.

“We can confirm that Sergio passed away this morning,” his rep shared. “He was in the hospital previously with a bout of pneumonia, not sure that was the cause. He was surrounded by family at the time.”

Calderón played Pirate lord, Captain Eduardo Villanueva of the Adriatic Sea, in 2007’s “At World’s End”, the third instalment of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise. He also lent his voice to the “At World’s End” video game, where he again starred as the Pirate lord.

John Beasley, the actor best known for his work in the TV shows “The Soul Man” and “Everwood”, as well as a long string of memorable film roles, has died. He was 79.

The veteran character actor’s son, Mike Beasley, confirmed the news on Tuesday with a heartbreaking post on Facebook, paying tribute to his late father.

“Man…you know this is a part of life…but that doesn’t make it any easier,” Mike wrote. “I lost my best friend today. They say you shouldn’t ever meet your heroes because they don’t turn out to be who you thought they were. That is so wrong. My hero was my father.”

A graduate of the Actors Studio in New York, Maharis got his start in acting in off-Broadway productions before getting his first television role in 1958. Among the shows he would appear in over the next two years include “Exodus” and “Naked City,” the latter of which led Maharis to get the nod from series creator Stirling Silliphant on his next show, “Route 66.”

“George Maharis passed away on Wednesday, May 25. George is well known for his stardom in route 66, stage productions, singing, artist, and above all a great guy would do anything for anyone. My dear friend, you’ll be terribly missed,” Bahan wrote.

In the 1960s drama series, “Route 66”, Mararis played the role of Buz Murdock. He starred in the production for its first three seasons and earned a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Continued Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Series.

Maharis died Wednesday at his home in Beverly Hills, his longtime friend and caregiver Marc Bahan told The Hollywood Reporter.

Now The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that director Jeff Wadlow – whose previous credits include the 2018 film Truth or Dare and the 2020 horror version of Fantasy Island – will be taking the helm of a shark thriller called The Devil’s Mouth for Entertainment One and Thunder Road.

Ahead of its Monday afternoon Upfront presentation, Fox did not unveil a fall schedule but instead released its overall line-up of programs for the entire 2023-24 TV season.

With the Writers Guild of America strike creating uncertainty about when production on shows might resume, and since no returning or new scripted Fox dramas have episodes in the can, the network said it would lock into a fall schedule at a later date.

The workplace comedy, starring Emmy Award nominee Joel McHale, has been renewed for a second season, it was announced today by Michael Thorn, President of Scripted Programming, Fox Entertainment.

The single-camera show, Fox's first wholly-owned live-action comedy, launched as the network's most-streamed scripted debut ever and most-watched comedy series this season to date.

A few months ago, we heard that director Jeff Wadlow and Blumhouse Productions – who had previously collaborated on the 2018 film Truth or Dare and the 2020 horror version of Fantasy Island – were teaming up for a new horror project called Imaginary, and Lionsgate has acquired the worldwide rights to the film. Now Lionsgate has announced that they will be giving Imaginary a theatrical release on February 2, 2024.

Wadlow has written the screenplay for Imaginary with Greg Erb, Jason Oremland, and Bryce McGuire, crafting a story that sounds like a horror take on the 1991 comedy Drop Dead Fred: A young woman returns to her childhood home only to discover that the imaginary friend she left behind is very real and very unhappy she left.

Lionsgate and Blumhouse are co-financing the project. Lionsgate and Blumhouse previously worked together on the 2012 release Sinister. Wadlow is producing the film alongside Blumhouse founder Jason Blum.

Fox has closed up Fantasy Island after two seasons but Animal Control managed to escape the ax and will return for season two. The network announced the half-hour comedy starring Joel McHale has been renewed for season two after coming off a hot first season that included setting a record for Fox’s most-streamed scripted series premiere.

Lionsgate recently acquired worldwide rights to the Blumhouse horror movie Imaginary, and Deadline reports today that the film has been set for release on February 2, 2024.

Blumhouse’s Jason Blum will produce, with Jeff Wadlow (Cry Wolf, Kick-Ass 2, Truth or Dare, Fantasy Island, The Curse of Bridge Hollow) producing and directing.

In Imaginary, a young woman returns to her childhood home only to discover that the imaginary friend she left behind is very real and very unhappy she left.

The screenplay is by Jeff Wadlow, Greg Erb, Jason Oremland, and Bryce McGuire.

Ryan Turek will Executive Produce Wadlow’s Imaginary.

The filmmakers are currently casting the film and plan to start production later this year.

Exclusive: Blumhouse’s Jeff Wadlow-directed horror movie Imaginary will be released by Lionsgate on February 2. It’s the first time in quite some time that the two studios have teamed up.

In the movie, which Wadlow co-wrote with Greg Erb and Jason Oremland, a young woman returns to her childhood home only to discover that the imaginary friend she left behind is very real and very unhappy she left.

The feature reps the third time that Wadlow has worked as a director for Blumhouse after Truth or Dare ($95.3M WW) and the early 2020 pre-Covid title, Fantasy Island ($49.4M WW). Wadlow also directed Kick-Ass 2 ($61.7M WW).

Currently dated on Feb. 2 next year is Warner Bros. Barry Levinson directed Robert De Niro mob film, The Wise Guys.

“Animal Control” has been renewed for Season 2 at Fox, Variety has learned.

The renewal comes as little surprise, given the fact that the show is Fox’s first wholly owned live-action comedy. Per Fox, the show’s premiere was the network’s most streamed scripted debut ever, drawing an estimated 4.5 million viewers across all platforms in its first three days of availability.

As the name suggests, the series centers on a group of animal control workers. The cast is led by Joel McHale, who stars alongside Michael Rowland, Vella Lovell, Ravi Patel, Grace Palmer, Alvina August, Kelli Ogmundson, and Gerry Dee.

Animal Control isn’t done horsing around. Fox has renewed the Joel McHale-led comedy for Season 2, TVLine has learned.

Season to date, Animal Control is averaging 2.25 million total viewers and a 0.4 demo rating (with Live+7 playback), Out of the eight comedies that Fox has aired this TV season, it ranks No. 2 in audience (right behind The Simpsons) and ties for No. 4 in the demo.

The news broke less than 24 hours after the Fantasy Island Season 2 finale.

"We were very pleased with Fantasy Island's fun and escapist creative, which we had hoped would gain strong traction among viewers," the network said in a statement, adding:

"We'd also like to thank Fantasy Island's cast, led by Roselyn Sánchez, Kiara Barnes and John Gabriel Rodriquez, crew and executive producers Liz Craft, Sarah Fain and Anne Clements for their partnership on the series."

Fantasy Island averaged 2.8 million viewers and a 0.3 rating in its final season with Live + 7 playback included.
