A new 9-1-1 spin-off has its leading man.
Chris O’Donnell has joined the 9-1-1: Nashville cast.
The former NCIS: Los Angeles star had been taking a break from television following the cancellation of his show.
O’Donnell played the mysterious NCIS Special Agent G. Callen. That role kept him busy from 2009 to 2023.
NCIS: LA was his first time leading a hit television show, leading to crossover work on Hawaii Five-0, NCIS: Hawai’i, and NCIS.
A movie career is also featured in O’Donnell’s past.
O’Donnell’s most memorable film roles were as Charlie Simms in Scent of a Woman, D’Artagnan in The Three Musketeers, Robin in two Batman films, and Peter Garrett in Vertical Limit.
O’Donnell was also featured in nine exciting episodes of Grey’s Anatomy in 2006 as Dr. Finn Dandridge.

The world of 9-1-1 is expanding on ABC, with a new spinoff set for the 2025-2026 season. And the first role for 9-1-1: Nashville has been cast with Chris O’Donnell. O’Donnell will play Captain Don Sharpe, a rugged fire captain and rodeo rider who runs Nashville’s busiest firehouse with his beloved son. Don’s a devoted husband and family man but he has his secrets. When TV Insider spoke with 9-1-1 showrunner Tim Minear, we had to find out what made him right for the role. “I think he actually fits into this franchise in an interesting way, and I think it’ll be fun for him, too, because he was so great on NCIS: LA,” Minear said, referencing the CBS drama on which O’Donnell played Special Agent G. Callen for 14 seasons. (NCIS: LA ended in 2023). “But I think he’ll be able to do...

9-1-1: Nashville is moving along much faster than I anticipated.
The latest entry in the 9-1-1 franchise has barely been announced in a month, and we already have our leading man.
Chris O’Donnell, best known for playing Special Agent in Charge Grisha “G” Callen on NCIS: Los Angeles, has lassoed the lead role on the forthcoming offshoot.

The lead character being male and having many secrets sounds very similar to 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star’s leading men, so I hope the Nashville-set spinoff takes things in a different direction.

The 9-1-1 franchise is expanding once again, and this time it is recruiting one of the main stars of a beloved NCIS spinoff. Chris O’Donnell, who starred in NCIS: Los Angeles, is joining an offshoot of the ABC drama that will take place in a new location, Nashville, Tennessee. It certainly helps to do that by adding one of the genre's most familiar faces.

One of CBS’s most beloved shows has gone international. NCIS, the popular and long-running military criminal investigation series, has produced several spin-offs over the years, but this time it’s moved the crime tracking down under. The fourth spin-off of the popular NCIS franchise, NCIS: Sydney joined CBS’ impressive catalog of crime investigation dramas with its premiere in 2023. “General Hospital” has cast daytime newcomer Adrian Anchondo to portray the contract role of Marco, a lawyer with a mysterious past, beginning with the Thursday, March 13 episode of the ABC daytime drama series.
In an interview with TV Insider, Anchondo revealed that he had been in the running to play the newly created character for a few months, competing against several others vying for the role, before ultimately getting a call to return to the show’s studio four weeks later to meet with producers.

During his stint playing Commander William Riker on "Star Trek: The Next Generation," Jonathan Frakes (seen above left) underwent a rudimentary director's boot camp. Frakes was interested in directing episodes of the show, and the producers said he would only be allowed to do so after shadowing other directors for 300 hours. Frakes put in his due diligence, and he ended up directing eight episodes of the series. The producers were so impressed that they also hired Frakes to direct two of the "Star Trek" feature films.
His directorial experience on "Next Generation," he found, could be parlayed into other directing gigs. For one, he remained with the "Star Trek" franchise for decades, coming back to helm episodes of "Deep Space Nine," "Voyager," "Discovery," "Strange New Worlds," and "Picard." "NCIS" creator Donald P. Bellisario once threatened to cancel the series over a casting decision, proving that he wielded some major influence over the folks at CBS back in the day. However, some rumors out there indicate that Mark Harmon, who played Leroy Jethro Gibbs on the show, had more clout than the acclaimed showrunner -- and he used it to get him fired. In reality, though, the story isn't as simple as that.
According to the scuttlebutt, Harmon and Bellisario's feud stemmed from the Gibbs star being unhappy with the former "NCIS" showrunner over the behind-the-scenes working conditions. The cast and crew had to work long days, and Harmon reportedly felt that there was too much disorganization and chaos on the set. Bellisario parted ways with "NCIS" after four seasons shortly after, leading to the belief that CBS fired him from his own series at the behest of Harmon.

"NCIS." "NCIS: Los Angeles." "NCIS: New Orleans." NCIS: Hawai'i." "NCIS: Sydney." "NCIS: Origins." The four-letter acronym that signifies one of the most successful procedural franchises in history has been an ever-present small screen factor ever since "Jag" quietly launched the "NCIS" universe, and all of the shows feature charismatic teams of investigators who tackle colorful crimes every week. For viewers, seeing the letters "NCIS" has become borderline synonymous with an hour of fun with a quality procedural, but at some point, a viewer might start wondering: What, exactly, do those letters mean?
The various "NCIS" shows drop the full title on occasion, but a casual viewer is unlikely to catch it if they just tune in for a random episode. Fortunately, there's an answer to the question. "NCIS" stands for Naval Criminal Investigative Service, a military law enforcement agency that works under the U.S. Department of the Navy.

Despite the show's massive ensemble cast, the first character that comes to mind from "NCIS" is Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon). The stern former Marine Sniper steers the NCIS Major Case Response Team with a fatherly hand, establishing himself as the show's face and de facto lead during his 19-season tenure with the show.
However, things almost didn't play out this way. In fact, Harmon was very close to walking away from the show a mere four seasons into its run. According to TV Guide's Michael Ausiello, the reason behind the "NCIS" star's near-exit was the procedural's co-creator and original showrunner, Donald Bellisario. Per Ausiello's anonymous source, Bellisario's tardiness with the show's scripts and tendency to over-involve himself was a source of great frustration to Harmon, prompting the star to consider an exit after season 4:
"Mark's been working every single day, 16 hours a day. Don tries to micro-manage everything.

The NCIS team’s search into a Navy Lieutenant’s murder led them to an unwanted familiar face who was tied to Director Vance’s shooting the previous year. How was Fletcher Voss connected to this case in particular?
There was a theft at a blood bank and dozens of blood bags were torn apart, except for one, which Kasie realized had been stolen. She was able to determine the owner of the donated blood was Lauren Hawthorn, who seemed like an unassuming woman who worked for a software company.
When Parker and Knight went to her home to speak to her, they didn’t find her, until they followed the strong scent of bleach and discovered a barrel of acid and a body in said barrel. Eventually, Kasie was able to determine the body belonged to Lauren, so they needed to find her killer.

Before he was writing half the shows on Paramount+, Taylor Sheridan was an actor. The man behind shows like "Yellowstone" and "Tulsa King" and the scripts for films including "Sicario" and "Hell or High Water" cut his teeth with screen work, a pastime he occasionally returns to when he needs someone to play, say, a cool cowboy who's dating Bella Hadid.
Years before he became known as a Hollywood cowboy, I knew Sheridan as a mysterious man named Danny Boyd in the plucky teen detective show "Veronica Mars," and as the hate-worthy cop Deputy David Hale on FX's "Sons of Anarchy." Those may have been two of Sheridan's most high-profile TV roles, but they're far from his only acting credits. He's had bit parts going all the way back to "Walker, Texas Ranger" in 1995, and can be seen in one-off roles in shows like "CSI," "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman,...

As of today, Lucky Spencer is getting a temporary new look on General Hospital. Fan-favorite Jonathan Jackson is stepping away for a few episodes, making room for Days of our Lives alum Guy Wilson to step into the role. While temporary recasts can be jarring for loyal viewers, fans can rest assured that Jackson’s absence will be short-lived.
A Temporary Shake Up
Don’t fret, Jackson fans! Soap Opera Digest reports that this switch-up is only for a handful of episodes, and Jackson will be back in Port Charles before you know it. In fact, a spokesperson for the show confirmed that Jonathan is already back on set filming, and we can expect to see him return to our screens later this month.

We can enjoy the ride for now and look forward to the final five episodes of Season 1.
Based on the episodes that have already been released, the writers have many more ideas on how to tell backstories for Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs and his co-workers.

Do you have roughly 1,000 hours to spare and a passion for stalwart procedural crime dramas? Great news: you can start watching every episode of "NCIS" and its multitude of spinoffs now and be finished with the show sometime before the next decade! Seriously, though, the long-running, incredibly popular series has, by this point, garnered enough spinoffs, prequels, and sequels to help keep the lights on at CBS for a long, long time.
In the past two years alone, two "NCIS" spin-offs have premiered, one has been greenlit, and another has gone to the big TV graveyard in the sky. It's a lot to keep track of, but luckily, the show's chronology is pretty straightforward. With the exception of a new prequel, all seven "NCIS"-adjacent shows take place in the present day in chronological order, although crossover events still make any watch-through complicated. If you are in the market for a marathon binge-watch,...

Quick LinksWhat's 'Jag' All About?'NCIS's Debut on 'Jag'
NCIS is one of the most iconic series out there. Its 22-season and 450+episode run put it among the top 10 longest-running scripted primetime shows on broadcast television. It's also spawned five spin-offs, many of which have gone on to enjoy long lives of their own. The latest spin-off, NCIS: Origins, follows a younger Leroy Jethro Gibbs as he's just starting out. But speaking of spin-offs, how many fans know that NCIS itself is a spin-off?
Many of NCIS's main stars and settings were introduced to viewers in the eighth season of CBS' Jag. Like its successors, Jag was also a long-running military-based procedural drama. It ran for 10 seasons and 227 episodes between 1995 and 2005. Those are impressive stats until you note that NCIS has more than doubled all those marks. It's exceedingly rare for a spin-off to outrun its parent series.

Gabriel Basso will pick up the action, starring as Peter, and Luciane Buchanan will return as Rose. Though the couple ended their relationship at the end of Season 1, when Rose hears Peter is in trouble, she jumps at the opportunity to rekindle their relationship.
Because this season follows Peter on a new mission, several members of the original cast will not be back for Season 2, though, including Hong Chau and Robert Patrick.

NCIS has become a staple of television, and when talking about its impact, it’s not possible not to mention the original Major Case Response Team and the characters we will never forget. Leroy Jethro Gibbs, Abby Sciuto, Tony Dinozzo, Dr. Ducky Mallard, and Kate Todd have shaped NCIS into what it is today, each adding their unique touch to the show’s dynamic. While their shoes have been properly filled after their departures, their legacy continues to live on in the hearts of viewers.
As NCIS grew in popularity, ultimately becoming one of the longest-running series in the history of television, it branched out into five spinoff series. From NCIS: Los Angeles to NCIS: Hawaiʻi, the franchise’s impact on modern TV is undeniable. Plus, with an upcoming Tony & Ziva show finding its place in the NCIS timeline, the story continues with even more on the horizon.

NCIS has been on television for well over 20 seasons. There have also been several spinoff shows and connected shows in the universe. However, NCIS creator Donald Bellisario only ran the show for four seasons and never had anything to do with the spinoffs. This was because of Mark Harmon, and it all resulted in a lawsuit.
Here is what happened to the original NCIS creator.
Why Did Mark Harmon Push Out NCIS Creator?
Donald Bellisario was a significant player in television production for many years. He wrote for the original Battlestar Galactica. He created Magnum, P.I., Airwolf, Quantum Leap, Jag, and NCIS. Sad news was confirmed by NCIS: Los Angeles star Eric Christian Olsen and his family.
The Palisades Fire burned down the home where Eric, his wife Sarah, and their three children had lived.
California has been plagued by wildfires this month. Firefighters continue to battle against the elements to put out those fires.
“Anybody have room for three kids and three dogs? Two of which have to be separated at all times. Also Wyatt’s Lego collection and Esme’s mermaids,” Eric wrote in a post earlier in December.
He couldn’t have known that his worry about a previous fire in the area would give way to something else as January arrived.
At the time, Eric received many kind messages from folks, including his former co-star on NCIS: Los Angeles, Daniela Ruah.

Marty Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) was one of the main officers on the NCIS: Los Angeles team, and though he was a fan favorite, it's unlikely Deeks is ever going reappear in another NCIS show. There have been eight spinoffs of the NCIS franchise and NCIS: Los Angeles premiered in September 2009 and lasted for 14 seasons. Like the other shows in the NCIS franchise, NCIS: Los Angeles follows the Naval Criminal Investigative Service in the Los Angeles area, which generally puts them in contact with Cartel elements and problems across the border.
The main cast for NCIS: Los Angeles did not change all that much, save for the notable exception of Marty Deeks, who started as a guest character in season 1 before moving into the main cast. Deeks is an undercover operative who serves as the liaison between the NCIS team and LAPD, a position that gains him plenty of rivals on both sides.

I Still Can’t Believe “Blue Bloods” Was Canceled Despite Being One of the Most-Watched Series on CBS
CBS’ police procedural drama Blue Bloods was one of the most-watched series on network TV. The Tom Selleck-led drama centered on the Reagans, a family who has a great number of members working for law enforcement. The show ran for 14 seasons and had incredible viewership numbers despite its time slot.
The series was unceremoniously canceled ahead of its fourteenth season with Swat replacing its time slot. Everyone from critics, the fans, and the actors themselves campaigned hard to get the series back on again but CBS did not budge. Despite so much demand, I still cannot figure out why the network canceled the series.

NCIS has lots of character arcs to resolve in the second half of season 22. There's been talks of new information about Agent Alden Parker (Gary Cole) coming to light, but the arc that fans are interested in getting more of is the romance between Dr. Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen) and NCIS Agent Jessica Knight (Katrina Law).
The fan favorite characters were a couple for multiple seasons, but they decided to go their separate ways in season 21. Both have still played crucial roles in the show as individuals, but many still hope they will reconcile and respark their romance in the future.
Palmer and Knight still have feelings for each other “Sticks & Stones” – After receiving intelligence on deadly threats to multiple locations that could lead to a catastrophic war, NCIS is called in to try to neutralize the danger, on NCIS, Monday, Nov. 4 on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on...

The "NCIS" franchise has said goodbye to some beloved shows in recent years. In 2023, "NCIS: Los Angeles" ended after 14 seasons and 322 episodes, which is a great run for any TV show. Unfortunately, "NCIS: Hawaii" didn't experience the same longevity, as it was sent to the chopping block after three seasons in 2024. What's more, it never got the chance to deliver an all-time great series finale as no one expected it to be canceled, so it bowed out with a frustrating cliffhanger. So, why did CBS decide to cancel the series?
As documented by Variety, CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach revealed that "NCIS: Hawaii" was canceled for a variety of reasons, with factors such as the Hollywood SAG-AFTRA strike and a desire to freshen things up among them. Here's what she had to say:
"Everything came back [from the Hollywood strikes] really strong, but ultimately we have to look at the cohesiveness of the schedule flow.

The two back-door pilot episodes of NCIS: Los Angeles teased the first meeting between Gibbs and Macy, which may finally be shown onscreen for the first time. Special Agent Jethro Gibbs and Operations Manager Lara Macy worked together in the two-part pilot episode as Gibbs' team joined forces with the Los Angeles unit, Office of Special Projects (Osp), to investigate the murder of a marine that's connected to a terrorist cell. During this case, Gibbs and Macy unpack their complex and uneasy relationship in connection to an emotional part of Gibbs' past.
While the intro of the spin-off series NCIS: Los Angeles began to establish the history between the two NCIS cast members, the actress who portrayed Macy, Louise Lombard, never portrayed the character again, leading Macy to be killed offscreen in one of the best episodes of NCIS, season 7's "Patriot Down." However, the relationship between Gibbs and...

While Will Smith leads the King Richard cast in his Oscar-winning role, there is a terrific ensemble working together to bring this true sports story to the big screen. Venus and Serena Williams’ names are iconic in the world of sports, but King Richard offers a slight twist in that it’s actually more about their father, Richard Williams, a tennis coach who tries to put his daughters’ talents on the world stage. While he is a complex and intriguing character, King Richard benefits from the entire cast.
Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green from a screenplay by Zach Baylin, King Richard goes behind the scenes of Venus and Serena’s life under the guidance of their father. King Richard has a sprawling cast of veteran actors and younger actors who get to flex their talents in front of a wider audience. The film is based on real-life people, and here...
