The shuttlecoupe Ernest J. King was named for a US Naval Commander: Ernest Joseph King (23 November 1878 - 25 June 1956) was Commander in Chief, United States Fleet (COMINCH) and Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) during World War II. As COMINCH-CNO, he directed the United States Navy's operations, planning, and administration and was a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The shuttlecoupe was built by Producers Lee Drew with Randall Landers. The shuttle was filmed inside the garage of the residence where Studio 4 is located.
Some of the interior of the Deimos was stock footage from a previous film. In the shot of Captain Gabriel on the new set, the comm officer is Comm Officer Nathex (Randall Landers) named for Nathan Explosion, the most metal of all cartoon guitarists, in honor of the long black wig worn.
