Under the Vines is a New Zealand TV series with a primarily local cast of actors. The Acorn TV show is a dramedy that follows two half-cousins, Daisy Monroe (Rebecca Gibney) and Louis Oakley (Charles Edwards), who are bequeathed a failing vineyard in New Zealand. With no experience in winemaking nor in country life in general, the pair have to work together and with the employees on the land to make the vineyard profitable again. Daisy and Louis deal with problems on the farm and problems in their own life while struggling to see eye-to-eye.

Under the Vines first premiered in December 2021 with six episodes and the second season premiered over a year later, in January 2023, with another six episodes. The show is beloved for its fish-out-of-water main characters, as Daisy is a socialite from Sydney, unused to hard work, and Louis is a lawyer from England who prefers structure and calmness,...

Taskmaster New Zealand is Finally Streaming in the UK! But Who’s Who?
Image
Watching an international version of Taskmaster has the uncanny quality of trying to explain a dream. The sets are the same, but also not. The theme music’s a match, but it’s playing over people and tasks you don’t recognise. The Taskmaster was there, but it wasn’t the Taskmaster, just some other tall man in a suit. And instead of the familiar comedian configuration of ‘two off telly, two off Twitter and one you’ve never heard of’, you (probably) haven’t heard of anybody.

Once you have your bearings though, free Taskmaster! Multiple new-to-you episodes to fill the gap while we wait for series 16. And it’s good stuff. The New Zealand version is particularly strong, with an excellent choice of Taskmaster’s Assistant and consistently funny comedians. Also, thanks to (the show’s own) joke that New Zealand has a population of just eight people,...

Under The Vines Season 2 Recap: What Happens In All 6 Episodes
Image
Under the Vines blends comedy and drama, investing time in character development and engaging individual episodes while exploring the trials and tribulations of the wine business. Season 2 of the series tackles more than its predecessor, allowing for emotional development among the growing cast and leaving storytelling possibilities open for future seasons. Each episode of Under the Vines season 2 introduces new challenges and developments, from crumbling relationships to vineyard crises, offering a variety of engaging storylines that keep viewers hooked.

The New Zealand-based dramedy Under the Vines thrilled during its first season, and the Acorn TV exclusive was given a second in 2023. The series concerns two estranged half-cousins, Daisy (Rebecca Gibney) and Louis (Charles Edwards) who suddenly find themselves the co-owners of Oakley Wines in rural New Zealand. Playing off of the typical fish-out-of-water premise, Under the Vines invests most of its time into the characters who crackle with life despite their rather cartoonish predicaments.

‘The Tank’ Review
Image
Stars: Matt Whelan, Luciane Buchanan, Zara Nausbaum, Ascia Maybury | Written and Directed by Scott Walker

Set in 1978, The Tank opens with Ben getting some news about his deceased mother. It appears his father left her coastal property in Hobbit’s Bay Oregon that she never told anyone about. He also finds out that rather than dying in a car accident, his father and sister drowned in said bay. Of course, you or I know better than to go near something like that because it never ends well. Ben, of course, packs up his wife Jules and their daughter Reia (Zara Nausbaum; The Other Side of Heaven 2: Fire of Faith) and goes to check it out.

Writer/director Scott Walker does throw a switch at viewers by having the house actually look like it’s been abandoned for decades. Boarded up, weathered, and overgrown with vines and other vegetation on the outside,...
