Even while established series like “The Walking Dead” continue to perform, AMC has its eyes on the future. The network announced Saturday, July 29 its upcoming slate of new series currently in development, including new projects from Rainn Wilson, “Walking Dead” director Greg Nicotero, and Blumhouse Television.

Three of the announced series in development are anthology-oriented, while nearly all feature some level of genre element. This includes the B-movie homage “Shock Theatre” as well as “Wicked West,” Blumhouse’s non-fiction take on “the most frightening and disturbing tales from the Wild West.”

There are also two high-concept premises mentioned: “Liking What You See” depicts a world where people voluntarily choose to surrender their ability to appreciate beauty, while “The Age of Miracles” is a drama about what happens to one woman’s family after the world learns that the earth’s rotation is slowing down.

To fill the diversity void, the networks have added actors of color to supporting roles. It’s heartening to see that this has created a more realistic picture on TV of what the world looks like, such as the marriage between Zach Braff’s and Tiya Sircar’s characters on “Alex Inc.” representing the growing number of mixed-race marriages in America. Unfortunately, it’s also disappointing to see so many of these favorite actresses get shunted from one supporting role to the next.

Deception stars Jack Cutmore-Scott (Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life) as a disgraced magician who puts his skills of deception and illusion to work as an FBI consultant, helping the feds catch the world’s most elusive criminals. Chuck executive producer Chris Fedak is the creator/Ep, and Greg Berlanti (The Flash, Arrow) and Martin Gero (Blindspot) are onboard as EPs as well.

Fox is the latest broadcaster to unveil its schedule for the 2016-17 TV season, and herewith is the major headline: Revivals of 24 and Prison Break are being held until midseason, with the former snagging the granddaddy of all launching pads.

24: Legacy will bow after Super Bowl 51 on Sunday, Feb. 5, before settling into its regular Monday-at-8 pm perch the following night. Prison Break, meanwhile, will take over Bones‘ new Thursday-at-9 pm timeslot sometime in early 2017.

Another big midseason move: Lee Daniels’ new drama Star...

It’s a bad day to be a freshman comedy series on Fox, as the network confirmed that four of its new sitcoms – including The Grinder, Grandfathered, Bordertown and Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life – won’t be seeing a season two. The former two shows debuted in the fall, while Bordertown and Cooper Barrett were lower-profile midseason entries.

As such, it’s not entirely surprising that they became fodder for cancelation, but The Grinder and Grandfathered might come as a shock to fans. The Grinder was well received when it debuted in 2015, and Grandfathered remained strong in the ratings, leaving some to thing Fox would end up picking one over the other to come back.

It seems that after hearing showrunner pitches for second seasons of each show, as well as reviewing potential new pilots for the 2016-2017 TV season, the network ultimately decided both would get the axe.

No amount of critical goodwill could spare The Grinder or Grandfathered. Fox's favored freshman comedies, which concluded their respective runs on Tuesday night with ratings too low to ignore even in the days of multiplatform boosts, have both been canceled. The same goes for Sunday newcomers Bordertown and Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life, which shared the former's soft numbers but not their buzz. Fox remained committed to Tuesday comedy, adding two series to the block this year in Grandfathered and The Grinder. On Thursday, Fox canceled freshman sitcoms “Grandfathered” and “The Grinder,” as well as animated series “Bordertown.” The network also officially confirmed that “Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life” would not be returning, which should be a shock to absolutely nobody. Stamos and Josh Peck starred in the lone run of “Grandfathered,” while Lowe and Fred Savage anchored legal comedy “The Grinder.” The very-low-rated “Bordertown” featured the voices of Hank Azaria, Judah Friedlander and Alex Borstein. Young-skewing comedy “Cooper Barrett” had already been shelved toward the end of its initial order.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show Event follows sweethearts Janet (Victoria Justice) and Brad (Ryan McCarten), who stumble upon Dr. Frank-n-Furter's (Emmy Award-nominated actress Laverne Cox) bizarre abode. Frank-n-Furter, a sexually ambiguous, flirtatious alien mad-scientist, is holding an annual, Transylvanian science convention to showcase the birth of "Rocky Horror" - a fit, attractive man created solely to fulfill Frank's desires.

Dr. Frank-n-Furter just got some company in Fox's upcoming two-hour reboot of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
