Cloverfield 3 May Skip Theaters and Go Straight to Netflix?
Is Cloverfield 3 making its way to Netflix? A new rumor suggests that may be the case. The latest movie in the Cloverfield franchise, which has been delayed several times and was originally supposed to be released more than a year ago in theaters, is now set to debut on April 20. Many thought that meant in theaters, but it now looks like the movie formerly known as God Particle could be debuting on the world's biggest streaming service instead.

Before we dig in, this is merely a rumor for now and should be treated as such. That said, Sundance is currently going on and The Tracking Board's Jeff Sneider is on hand at the event. He recently took to Twitter to share that he overheard Cloverfield 3 is indeed heading to Netflix and not to a theater near you. Here's what he has to say about it.

"Overheard on the ground at...

Apparently The New Cloverfield Film Could Be A Netflix Exclusive
The rumor mill is always running during Sundance, and the latest shared by Reliable entertainment reporter Jeff Sneider on Twitter has to be one of the craziest yet regarding the next Cloverfield film, which is said to be titled Cloverfield Station:

Overheard on the ground at Sundance: New Cloverfield movie may be heading to Netflix. No confirmation yet and I'm heading into a movie. Just passing along, since the delays Have been suspicious...

— Jeff Sneider (@TheInSneider) January 23, 2018

That's a completely wild rumor to be spreading, and if it's true, that's even wilder. Personally, I don't believe that anyone in their right minds would sell the film to Netflix unless they were given a ridiculous amount of money. 10 Cloverfield Lane made $110 million at the box office, and while I know Netflix isn't one to shy away from a high price tag...that seems as though it would significantly cut into...

Cloverfield 3 Headed To Netflix?
Park City is currently playing host to the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, an annual celebration of independent storytellers and best-in-class filmmakers.

Such a concentrated cross-section of the industry naturally fuels earnest and often intriguing conversation about the global film landscape, with one or two rumors thrown in there for good measure. Case in point: Jeff Sneider of The Tracking Board claims to have overheard a Sundance attendee saying Cloverfield 3 (Aka God Particle) is headed to Netflix.

It would certainly explain the numerous delays; Bad Robot’s third Cloverfield movie has been postponed on three separate occasions, eventually arriving at its current release date of April 20th. Not only that, but as things stand, Julius Onah’s starry space oddity is poised to go up against the Dwayne Johnson-fronted Rampage, so we wouldn’t be too surprised to learn that Bad Robot plans to skip theaters altogether in favor of a Netflix release.
