Abhishek Chaubey is one of Hindi cinema’s most underrated directors. Even after pathbreaking landmarks like Ishqiya, Udta Punjab, and Sonechidiya, he is not rated as high as some of the other acknowledged greats of contemporary Indian cinema. Ishqiya, released in 2010, is the kind of cinema you can love or hate but not be indifferent to. The dusty, parched, sexually and spiritually arid hinterland renders itself effectively to the character’s unique dimensionality. The uncle-nephew pair of Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi provides the kind of sweaty, grimy male bonding that we last saw in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, where Brad Pitt’s anti-Nazi soldiers urinated a toxic violence into the script. Ishqiya, too, breeds a blur of violence from the rough material of boredom.
The two protagonists in Ishqiya represent the acme of reprehensibility. Come to think of it, there isn’t one character in the plot that you can begin to like,...

"I am not planning to make a film on any sports person's life at the moment but I am looking forward to watch Saina Nehwal's (Badminton player) biopic which is directed by Amol Gupte. Vishal spoke at the player auction of Tennis Premier League. About the league, he said: "It's a great initiative because we don't give much importance to other sports but cricket in our country. I used to be a cricket player but now, I have been playing tennis for many years.

Arshad Warsi feels it is easy to get stereotyped as an actor, and very difficult to break away from it. The actor says he has managed to evade the image trap despite his overwhelming popularity in comic roles only because his serious roles were equally loved.
"It is difficult (to break away from stereotypes). We all get stereotyped -- all of us do, every actor does. That's how it is. You do a certain role or you do something that people enjoy, and then that is what you keep getting because that is ringing the box office," Arshad Warsi Said.
"It becomes difficult to get out of it. Fortunately for me, I've managed to do that purely because people have enjoyed my serious acting as well as my comedy," he added.
Arshad continued, "Usually, when somebody does comedy, a lot of (his/her) serious roles don't work because you can't...

There are not many black comedies in the realm of Bollywood. One of the reason for that may be that filmmakers do not think that black comedy goes hand to hand with the modes of storytelling from an Indian perspective, that it provides more of a European perspective towards life. The film tells the story of two thieves, Khalujaan (Naseeruddin Shah) and Babban (Arshad Warsi), who are on the run after stealing from their boss, Mushtaq. Khalujaan and Babban are uncle and nephew, and there is the added complication that Mushtaq is Khalujaan’s brother in law. How much Bollywood actresses get paid has remained a mystery ever since Kangana Ranaut came out strongly against the disparity in the paychecks compared to their male counterparts in the industry. While the debate did push their salaries up by some crores, the difference still remains quite apparent. Kangana recently became the highest paid actress in Bollywood when she signed a movie for Rs 11 crores. Her revised remuneration was well justified in her post Queen phase. She won a National Award for the same. But have you thought about the figure Salman Khan, the highest paid actor in Bollywood, commands? It’s more than five times – Rs 60 crores!

Intro: Beginning this week, we bring you another weekly column that dwells on the intricacies of Bollywood and the people who make it. Sometimes funny, sometimes informative, always downright forthright!
Hashmi's Adhuri filming!
This is epic. Not jumping on to Balan's lips must have been a frustrating time for Emraan Hashmi in Hak. It's his haq, you see, of smooching every heroine he is paired up with. In a few films he has also flaunted this 'license' he has been supposedly given by over-enthusiastic directors and ever-willing heroines with some cheesy lines. Every time in Hak, he has gotten dangerously close to Vidya Balan's lips, and then like a good boy, gone for a traditional hug.
Surely, he must be feeling that this was adhuri shooting.
Balan is big when it comes to lip-locks
Speaking of Vidya Balan, she is not averse to kissing, or is in anyway a bad kisser.

Ajay Devgn, who signed Drishyam remake long ago, decided to start the film next year, but circumstances led to the actor to prepone the Nishikant Kamat directorial and the film is slated to go on floor soon. Bobby Jasoos has released and it is time for Vidya Balan to move on to her next. While on a personal front, she has gained good appreciation and acknowledgment for her Bobby act, Vidya is now stepping into a romantic zone after a hiatus with Hamari Adhuri Kahaani which is all set to go on floor. For Vidya, it is a different territory altogether as the last film with a strong romantic element was Ishqiya (2010) and that too had its own share of deceit, intrigue and suspense element to it. Ever since then she has experimented with the likes of No One Killed Jessica, The Dirty Picture, Kahaani, Ghanchakkar, Shaadi Ke Side Effects and Bobby Jasoos where she has basically played on her versatility. With Hamari Adhuri Kahaani, she gets into a romantic space after a hiatus. "Well yes, this is indeed an intense love story and as the title itself conveys,...

Karachi, March: Naseeruddin Shah believes that the Bollywood film industry has not achieved anything to be proud of.
The 'Ishqiya' star told the Express Tribune that there has always been a scarcity of a good story in Bollywood and the only reason these films are seen is because of Indian dhabas and similar communal viewing spaces all over the world, otherwise the industry has done nothing of note thus far.
The veteran actor also lashed out at Indian directors, saying that the easiest thing in the world is to fool the audience and this is a feat that Bollywood's film directors are pulling off splendidly.
Out of all the Indian actors, there is merely a handful, including Dilip Kumar, who has done exceptional work.

Karachi, March 2: Naseeruddin Shah has revealed that he prefers working with inexperienced, but passionate directors than the ones who have lost the spark for filmmaking.
The veteran actor said at the Napa Theatre Festival 2014 that the films that he is proud of, most of them are by first-time directors and he has often regretted working with cinema masters, but never debutante directors, the Express Tribune reported.
The 'Ishqiya' star explained that there is passion, and a fire, which burns in most aspiring actors and directors, despite the odds and the low budgets they have to work with.
Shah asserted that.

Abhishek Chaubhey’s first directorial venture, Ishqiya, received tremendous praise from critics. The fantastic performances from Vidya Balan, Naseerudin Shah and Arshad Warsi were supported by witty dialogues and dark humour. Chaubhey’s sequel, Dedh Ishqiya ,is an equally edgy and ‘thrilling’ product with the same level of wit and humour but an even juicier romance owing to the comeback of the dreamy Madhuri Dixit-Nene.
The story begins by rekindling the camaraderie of two con-men Khalujaan (Naseerudin Shah) and Babban (Arshad Warsi) who have been continuing to run from their former boss Mushtaq. The two scoundrels become separated as they flee from one of their con scenes and Babban sets out to find Khalujaan. They are reunited at the magnificent home of Begum Para (Madhuri Dixit-Nene) where she is hosting a poetry-themed swaymvara for herself, as one does. New Dehi, Jan 7: After a gap of seven years, Bollywood diva Madhuri Dixit is back to woo moviegoers with "Dedh Ishqiya". Coming out Friday, the film, not a regular masala film, has loads of entertaining elements, including the actress' never-seen-before avatar. The weekend also has another love story, "Yaariyan", hitting the screens.
Even though the film is a sequel to 2010 "Ishqiya", it is apparently different in its treatment and subject.
Although director Abhishek Chaubey dropped Vidya Balan, seen in the original, he has retained Arshad Warsi and Naseeruddin for the part two. Huma Qureshi joins them in the cast.

Mumbai, Dec 26: Director Samir Tewari has roped in Arshad Warsi for his debut film "Mr Joe B. Carvalho". He says that the actor is very versatile, but his potential hasn't been fully utilised yet.
Samir Tewari told Ians: "Arshad is a great actor. Can you imagine 'Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.' without him? He is an incredible actor, but he is the most underrated and unutilised actor."
Post the success of "Munna Bhai" series, Arshad is mostly seen in funny roles despite the fact that he won lots of critical acclaim for his work in "Sehar".
"The problem is people tend to get easily typecast in the industry. Arshad can pull off serious and intense roles so well. I have seen his 'Ishqiya' where his role is intense. He is certainly.
