Where must we go? We who wander this Wasteland in search of our better selves? That’s exactly what George Miller is trying to figure out as the future of the Mad Max franchise remains uncertain. There has been talk of another movie with Tom Hardy ever since Fury Road resurrected the series in 2015 but nothing has come of that. So where does that leave the future of Mad Max? Will Miller be bringing back more fury or has it been cast into the wasteland?
George Miller recently sat down to chat about Mad Max with Vulture, saying that he has plenty of ideas for scripts in his head…it’s just that not all of them are tied to Mad Max…“We’ve got another script. But having been doing this long enough where I’m habituated to storytelling, I find myself with way too many stories — not only in my head,...

George Miller is flirting with the idea of taking another trip down Fury Road.
Following his 2015 franchise reboot Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) and last year’s Furiosa prequel, the Oscar winner recently revealed he has another installment he’d like to make “if for whatever reason the planets align,” but he has a few other projects on deck.
“We’ve got another script,” he told Vulture of his Mad Max plans. “But having been doing this long enough where I’m habituated to storytelling, I find myself with way too many stories — not only in my head, but in the form of screenplays or at least very detailed notes that are within reach of screenplays. I’m a professional daydreamer, really. This was seen as my big deficit as a kid: ‘George would do better at school if he didn’t daydream so much’ was on my report card.”

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga was another critically-acclaimed installment in the long-running action franchise, but it failed to light up the box office. Still, audiences were enamored with the stunt-filled revenge story starring Anya Taylor-Joy as a younger version of Furiosa, originally played by Charlize Theron in Fury Road. The future of the Mad Max franchise was left in the air due to the prequel's theatrical performance, but it seems fans should prep themselves for another trip down the post-apocalyptic road.
During an interview with Vulture, George Miller discussed his impending plans for another Mad Max installment. The veteran filmmaker confirmed that, while he has another script ready to go, the wait for a new sequel (or prequel) could be quite extensive. He has "lots of stories" in the backburner, and not just for Mad Max. However, due to the nature of his own creative process and moviemaking in general,...

Consider Phlebas is the first sci-fi book written by author Iain M. Banks. It's the first book in his classic sci-fi series The Culture, about a post-scarcity civilization — called the Culture — controlled by powerful artificial intelligences. Consider Phlebas drills down on a war between the Culture and the Idiran Empire, an expansionist empire dominated by religion. When a Culture Mind — a powerful AI — takes refuge on a distant planet, agents from both the Culture and the Idiran empire are sent to retrieve it.
Per Deadline, Prime Video is now adapting Consider Phlebas — which gets its title from T. S. Eliot's poem The Waste Land, if you're wondering — for TV. Author Charles Yu, who served as showrunner on the Hulu series Interior Chinatown in addition to writing on shows like Westworld, will be heading up the new series. Among the executive producers is Chloé Zhao, who won a Best Director Oscar for her film Nomadland.

Fallout, the Prime Video show based on the game series of the same name, is in production on its second season with stars Walton Goggins and Ella Purnell to return as the Ghoul and Lucy. After last season revealed that Lucy’s father Hank (Kyle MacLachlan) was revealed to be working for Vault-Tec and that the Ghoul's family is alive, the two set off in hot pursuit to a fan favorite location, New Vegas, with some set locations already revealed for the Season 2 setting.
Fallout shows the gritty, wild-west-like post-apocalyptic world where 1950s society meets alternate historyin a mash-up of genres. There are high expectations for the second season of the show, understandable given the popularity of the games, and Goggins' latest progress update on Season 2 assures fans that the show will be matching those expectations.

The Mad Max franchise nearly had a brilliant villain twist 44 years ago, and its next movie needs to finally do it properly. The next Mad Max movie, Mad Max: The Wasteland, had a very bumpy development. Tom Hardy, who played Max Rockatansky in Mad Max: Fury Road, has given both discouraging and hopeful quotes about the film at different times, despite the fact that Hardy may be recast for The Wasteland. The franchise has also had some trouble due to Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga's low box office earnings, so it's not clear if the series will continue at all.
If The Wasteland ever does get off the ground, though, it already has a perfect plot twist that's been waiting for over four decades to be used. There have been plenty of great villains in Mad Max over the years, and it's almost hard to imagine them getting any better.

The first Mad Max film was an extremely low-budget movie written and directed by visionary filmmaker George Miller. After its success in 1979, Miller directed two more Mad Max movies. Mad Max: The Road Warrior came out in 1981 and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome was released in 1985. The two sequels expanded the post-apocalyptic world of Mad Max, but then no more movies were made for 30 years.
The Mad Max franchise was thought to be dead, but Miller revived the series in 2015 with Mad Max: Fury Road after years of setbacks. In Fury Road, Tom Hardy replaced Mel Gibson, who had previously starred as the titular wasteland dweller. Fury Road received outstanding reviews, which led to another Mad Max movie being greenlit.

2024 has been a relatively strong year for the action genre. Jason Statham's The Beekeeper started the year off on a high note, becoming a surprise hit. The film did so well, in fact, that The Beekeeper 2 is now confirmed to be on the way. After Dune: Part Two dazzled audiences with its sci-fi action, movies like Monkey Man and The Fall Guy hit theaters, with the latter disappointing at the box office but faring well with critics and audiences.
The summer and fall saw the release of a handful of other notable titles in the action genre, including Bad Boys: Ride or Die, which was a hit, and Twisters, a well-received reboot of the 1996 classic. Wolfs also featured plenty of action, as did Ridley Scott's Gladiator 2. Only a few films did a great job at the box office in 2024. While critically acclaimed movies like Deadpool & Wolverine and Dune: Part Two became blockbuster hits, others like Joker: Folie à Deux and Megalopolis faced heavy criticism and flopped at the box office.
There were even surprise hits like Inside Out 2‘s billion-dollar success and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire‘s franchise-topping numbers.

However, the failure of a few other critically acclaimed movies broke our hearts. Critics gave them a thumbs up and fans believed they were headed for a blockbuster. However, we later learned that these films fell far short of the required numbers.

'Our Not-So-Secret Weapon': Fallout EP Shares 1 Key Decision That Led to Prime Video Series' Success
Fallout, an adaption of a game series of the same name, has been running high lately - especially after the show's win at the Game Awards as the Best Adaption of 2024. The series is set in an alternate post-apocalyptic future and stars Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten and Walton Goggins. Jonathan Nolan also serves as an executive producer and director for the series.
Nolan, known for his work on HBO’s Westworld and co-authoring two of The Dark Knight Trilogy films with his brother, is surely as excited about this massive victory as the rest of the talented cast and crew. Admittedly, the director’s fantastic vision gave it a clear edge over other contenders - which the director has recently spoken about.

Macbeth and The Order director Justin Kurzel wants to make a pre-apocalypse Mad Max prequel, and even hopes to pitch it to George Miller.
George Miller’s Mad Max (1979)presented a such bold take on a post-apocalyptic dystopia, presenting many of our fears about the breakdown of civilisation with such absorbing style, it formed a template that was developed in every film afterwards. While this year’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga may not have set the world alight commercially, that hasn’t stopped Australian filmmaker Justin Kurzel from wanting to add his own take to Miller’s Wasteland saga.
Speaking to Collider, Kurzel – director of, among other things, Snowtown, Macbeth, Assassin’s Creed and this year’s The Order – outlined his vision for a prequel film that would establish how the world we recognise fell into ruin… and what’s more, he’s keen to pitch his take it to Miller himself.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga took audiences back to before George Miller's phenomenal Fury Road, telling the life-story of the titular imperator (played by Anya Taylor-Joy). But, Australian director Justin Kurzel wants to take audiences back even further — back before 1979. Newer fans will know Tom Hardy best as Max Rockatansky, the eponymous hero of the Mad Max universe. But, for decades, Gibson was synonymous with the role (and still is to many long-time fans). But Kurzel wants to know how Gibson's version of Max got to where he was.
Speaking to Collider, along with Jude Law to promote The Order (check out our glowing review here), Justin Kurzel pitched his dream project: a prequel to the Mel Gibson-led Mad Max. "I’ll tell you what, maybe because it was such a big influence, but I’ve always been curious about what happened before the first Mad Max," the director said.

The visionary director George Miller might not have as many movies under his belt in comparison to other filmmakers, but he gave audiences his magnum opus: The Mad Max Saga. Miller's imaginative vision for allegory made each new film in the Mad Max Saga more and more refined. Over time, he built an exceptional fictional world, with compelling characters and important themes. However, the true identifiable trait of Mad Max cinema is the action sequences.
In 1979, Miller and his team set out to make an action movie inspired by the car-action of the '60s. This ended up planting the seeds for what would become one of the greatest action-sci-fi epics in cinema. Honing his craft and expanding his universe led to a complete vision with Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior. The 1981 sequel portrayed immense world-building and authenticity as it gave audiences unique action sequences throughout "the Wasteland." From there,...

Tom Hardy offers up a hopeful response regarding his return as Max Rockatansky for Mad Max: The Wasteland. Hardy first played Max in director George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), taking on the role made famous by actor Mel Gibson. The film was critically acclaimed, and Miller would return to the franchise with Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga earlier this year, which saw Anya Taylor-Joy taking over the role of Furiosa from Charlize Theron. It's currently unclear what's next for the franchise.
During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight at the premiere of Venom: The Last Dance, Hardy is asked about whether he'll be back as Max for an additional Mad Max movie. While the franchise's future remains up in the air, the actor makes clear he'd be open to reprising his role:
"No, I haven't been told anything about it yet, but obviously I'd love to do that.

Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior leaned into the gonzo absurdity of George Millers post-apocalyptic wasteland, realizing the vision that he didnt have the money to pull off the first time. While the original Mad Max is a timeless gem, the series didnt become the uniquely bleak, surreal, high-octane action franchise it is today until Miller expanded the wasteland in The Road Warrior. The first film is a dystopian police thriller set in a world on the brink of a gas-guzzling apocalypse, but the second film took it way past the brink to the desolate badlands that remain.
Since Miller was working from a shoestring budget in his independent directorial debut, he could only fulfill a fraction of his vision of a lawless post-apocalyptic world. But Mad Max proved to be successful enough for Miller to complete his vision in the bigger-budgeted sequel. Mad Max is a great movie as...

With half a year gone since the first movie became a critical and viewership success, Ella Purnell has an uncertain update on Fallout season 2's development. Purnell starred in season 1 of the Prime Video adaptation of Bethesda's post-apocalyptic franchise as Lucy MacLean, a Vault Dweller who left her peaceful home of Vault 33 to save her dad after he's kidnapped and brought to the destroyed surface now known as The Wasteland. Co-created by Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner, Fallout season 1 garnered widespread acclaim and became Prime Video's second-most-watched title in history, quickly securing a season 2 renewal.

After a huge box office flop, the Mad Max franchise faces an uncertain future, with legitimate concerns about whether Mad Max: The Wasteland is a movie that should be made. Despite being the follow-up to the massive critical hit of Mad Max: Fury Road, featuring strong lead stars, and simply being a good movie, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga saw shocking losses at the box office. While there have been plans for an additional Mad Max sequel for some time, people are now questioning it.
Furiosa underperformed for numerous reasons that had little to do with the actual quality of the movie, including marketability and competition, as well as the changing movie landscape where many expect that they will soon be available to stream. However, Furiosa's failure highlights several logistics and story challenges to the proposed Mad Max 5, making it a risk Warner Bros. and George Miller might not want to take.

Furiosa was a great addition to the Mad Max franchise, but I believe it may have proved that Mad Max 5 should not happen. Furiosa's cast of characters told a prequel story to 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road, centering around the titular character before she became Immortan Joe's Imperator. By the time of Furiosa's explosive ending, the film served as a perfect way to bridge the gap between the original trilogy and Mad Max: Fury Road, further fleshing out the fascinating world created by George Miller and the characters who inhabit it.
I admit that the timeline of the Mad Max movies is overly confusing, yet this did not take away from the strengths of Furiosa. The installment was a fantastic, more character-driven ride through The Wasteland, and naturally led many - myself included - to wonder what the status of upcoming Mad Max movies was, notably Mad Max 5. Tom Hardy is no stranger to mega movie franchises, and he has the perfect potential replacement for his current box office smash movie series in the form of Mad Max 5. George Miller's iconic post-apocalyptic movie series was revitalized in 2015 with the Academy Award-winning action film Mad Max: Fury Road, but after starring in that sequel alongside Charlize Theron, Tom Hardy was absent from the follow-up prequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. Hardy could have the opportunity to return for Mad Max 5 and continue the story of Max Rockatansky while keeping the franchise moving forward.
While Furiosa brought the franchise backwards in the Mad Max timeline, Mad Max 5 should pick back up with Max Rockatansky after the events of Fury Road. Tom Hardy has enough star power to lead a franchise, particularly an action franchise, which he's starred in before (The Dark Knight Rises). Dream Theater have detailed a new vinyl box set, Dream Theater Vol. 1, that houses their studio albums released during the 1990s. The 7-lp collection is set to drop on September 27th via Rhino.
The first of three planned box set releases, Vol. 1 charts the prog-metal legends’ most critically lauded decade, the ’90s, picking up after vocalist James Labrie joined the band in 1991.
Spread across seven discs, the box set includes: Images and Words (1992); Awake (1994); Falling Into Infinity (1997); and Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory (1999). They’re housed in a slipcase featuring new artwork from the band’s longtime collaborator Hugh Syme.
The set is a boon for fans who’ve struggled to track down these albums on vinyl over the years, as some had gone out-of-print. Per Rhino’s press release, Vol. 2 and Vol. 3 will follow in 2025 and ostensibly collect the band’s output in chronological order,...

It is safe to say we will likely never watch Mad Max: The Wasteland, the long teased semi-sequel/prequel set between the events of the original Mad Max trilogy, which starred Mel Gibson, and Mad Max: Fury Road, the one that saw actor Tom Hardy step into the Aussie’s shoes. Like the movie that became this summer’s criminally overlooked Furiosa, The Wasteland was developed by franchise maestro George Miller and Nico Lathouris, the latter of whom is a dramaturge Miller originally brought in to develop an emotional authenticity and depth to Mad Max: Fury Road’s screenplay.
Instead their exploration of the material and characters went so deep that Lathouris ended up getting a screenplay credit on Fury Road while also producing versions of scripts that became the first draft of Furiosa and the still as yet unmade Mad Max: The Wasteland. CGI quality matters more than quantity in films like Furiosa and Fury Road, as storytelling excellence can overshadow visual effects. Both movies used a similar amount of CGI shots, but the quality of the CGI varied due to Furiosa's grade and saturation. Practical effects in the Mad Max franchise, like real people on moving vehicles, contribute to realistic stunts and believable acting.

This graphical leap not only set trends but also offered some of the most original titles possible. This list of underrated games is clear proof of that.

After Furiosa's box office underperformance, the future of the Mad Max franchise is uncertain but fans hope for more movies. A Praetorian Jack prequel could provide new insights into the Mad Max universe and potentially replace the character of Max Rockatansky. Exploring Praetorian Jack's backstory in a prequel would offer fresh adventures and storytelling opportunities for the franchise.
If the Mad Max franchise manages to continue after Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, I know exactly what prequel George Miller should make next. Nine years after Mad Max: Fury Road proved there were still stories worth telling within The Wasteland, Furiosa became the latest chapter in the universe's expansion. By telling the origin of Charlize Theron's character with Anya Taylor-Joy taking over the role, the prequel did an amazing job of introducing new locations, characters, and pieces of Mad Max lore that could all factor into future installments of the franchise.

Economic collapse and war over vital resources led to societal breakdown in Mad Max. Water and oil are crucial resources for survival in the post-apocalyptic world of Mad Max. The phrase "Who killed the world?" in Fury Road refers to mankind's greed and violence.
The Mad Max franchise is set in future Australia as the country is experiencing societal collapse caused by war and shortages of critical resources. Over the course of the Mad Max movies, the environment rapidly devolves until its most dramatic portrayal in Fury Road, when the landscape resembles little more than a barren wasteland. In the original Mad Max, there's still some semblance of law and order, but matters quickly devolve further, leading to questions of how everything became that way.

Furiosa's streaming release could boost its success and reshape its reputation after a lukewarm box office performance. Despite financial challenges, Furiosa earned positive reviews and is expected to gain a loyal following like Fury Road. The future of the Mad Max franchise remains uncertain post-Furiosa, though George Miller has another sequel titled The Wasteland in development.
With confirmation of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga's impending streaming release, I'm still holding out hope for the franchise's future. While I always enjoyed the Mad Max movies for their great action and worldbuilding, I'll confess they were never my favorite action series either. Still, like most of the planet, I was blown out the back of my seat by Mad Max: Fury Road, which has earned its place as one of - if not the best - action movies of the 21st century.

Warning: Major spoilers for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga below!
Charlize Theron makes a surprise cameo at the end of Furiosa using a deleted scene from Mad Max: Fury Road. Director George Miller opted against CGI de-aging for Theron in the prequel due to tech limitations. Anya Taylor-Joy impressively embodies the Furiosa character in the 2024 prequel.
Charlize Theron has a surprise cameo of sorts in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, and it's not from the Fury Road montage that closes the film. Mad Max: Fury Road spent over a decade in development hell, and the movie's shoot was legendarily tough. Not only did it result in the best Mad Max movie, but this 2015 sequel was one of the best action movies of the decade, period. While developing Fury Road, Miller developed two prequel stories alongside it. One followed Max and is dubbed The Wasteland, while Furiosa detailed the origin of Charlize Theron's Imperator.

George Miller should consider making Mad Max: The Wasteland as an anime, which was the original plan for Furiosa. Despite Furiosa's box office disappointment, there is still potential for a Mad Max anime adaptation. Warner Bros may need to reconsider the future of the Mad Max franchise, with a smaller budget or as a miniseries.
The box office disappointment of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga has put plans for the next entry in danger, but George Miller could save it if he resurrects his original plan for the 2024 prequel. Following the third Mad Max movie in 1985, Miller had little interest in revisiting his high-octane saga. He moved on to other projects, but after short-lived discussions about a potential Mad Max TV series in the 1990s, the concept behind Fury Road came to him. He suddenly got very excited about returning, though Mad Max: Fury Road's tortured development has become the stuff of legend.

Glass-breaking scene symbolizes Oppenheimer's scientific prowess and the entropic process of nuclear fission. Shattered glass represents the irreversible nature of actions and the consequences of Oppenheimer's atomic bomb invention. The scene captures Oppenheimer's journey and understanding of the atomic bomb's implications, leading to his dark future.
Oppenheimer's opening "Can You Hear The Music" montage features a scene where the titular figure smashes glasses against a wall. This raises an intriguing question: Is the scene associated with Oppenheimer's future scientific discoveries, or does it foreshadow something deeper in his story? Interestingly, since the glass-breaking scene is open to interpretation, it can be associated with Oppenheimer's scientific prowess and also be seen as a symbol of some crucial aspects of his narrative in the film.

George Miller’s Furiosa has had a tough time at the box office, and is already on its way to home formats: more here.
Appreciating that it’s the way of the modern cinema world, there’s something mildly dispiriting at seeing something so obviously made for the big screen being sent so quickly to home formats. We’ve talked in recent times here about the cost of a cinema ticket, and of course not everyone can get to the movies anyway. But still: George Miller’s Furiosa film on an IMAX screen is really special, yet the box office numbers suggest that the idea of a Mad Max film on the big screen isn’t something that’s getting people to multiplexes.
And that leads us to here. Warner Bros hasn’t announced a UK date yet, but it’s preparing to launch Furiosa on video on demand services...

Plans for a Mad Max sequel are uncertain after Furiosa's lukewarm box office reception. Hardy doubts it happening. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga explores the origin story of fearless Furiosa, set in a post-apocalyptic world. Despite doubts from Hardy about returning, George Miller still hopes to make Mad Max: The Wasteland.
Tom Hardy found himself leading a Hollywood hit as the new iteration of Max Rockatansky in 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road, and he has recently offered a disappointing update on his possible return to the Mad Max franchise. After Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga's lukewarm reception at the box office, plans for a sequel are still to be confirmed, and it seems that Hardy is not exactly holding out too much hope of it happening.
In Mad Max: Fury Road, Hardy gives life to "Mad" Max, a scavenger trying to survive the post-apocalyptic wasteland where Immortan Joe rules.

Tom Hardy is addressing the possibility of returning to the Mad Max universe for a rumored prequel, The Wasteland.
In a new interview about his latest film, The Bikeriders, Hardy was asked about possibly working with George Miller again to reprise his Mad Max: Fury Road role.
“I don’t think that’s happening,” Hardy told Forbes.
Hardy starred opposite Charlize Theron in 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road, and Miller recently recalled the on-set drama between the two stars.
“They were just two very different performers,” Miller told The Telegraph recently. “Tom has a damage to him but also a brilliance that comes with it, and whatever was going on with him at the time, he had to be coaxed out of his trailer. Whereas Charlize was incredibly disciplined – a dancer by training, which told in the precision of her performance – and always the first one on set.”

In an early scene of Mad Max: Fury Road, the warrior called Furiosa (Charlize Theron in that film) stands in a shadowless patch of barren desert alongside several women who have been sheltered from the heat, if not misery, all their lives. One of them laments about a flesh wound she just suffered as they watch their last ride out of the Wasteland vanish into the horizon. “It hurts,” she whispers. “Out here everything hurts,” Furiosa responds. “Now pick up what you can and run.”
Fans and admirers of George Miller’s Mad Max films can probably relate to that feeling these days. Tom Hardy doesn't think the Mad Max: Fury Road sequel, Mad Max: The Wasteland, will happen. Director George Miller has expressed interest in recent years in making another prequel to Fury Road about Max, not a sequel. Furiosa's poor performance in theaters might mean that the franchise is put on ice for the forseeable future.

While doing promotion for his upcoming film The Bikeriders, Tom Hardy gave his thoughts on George Miller's Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, and expressed his gratitude for working on Mad Max: Fury Road.
In 2015, the Mad Max franchise made a triumphant return to the big screen with Mad Max: Fury Road, which reinvigorated the franchise with top-notch performances, and relentless heart-pounding action. The film was praised for its incredible blending of practical and CGI special effects, and saw Hardy take the reigns from Mel Gibson as the titular Max. In an interview with Variety, Hardy recalled his experience working on the film, and also praised the visionary director. Nathan Jones reminds fans that he is an actor portraying a character in a fictional story, not endorsing immoral behavior in Furiosa. Uncomfortable scenes featuring Rictus Erectus in Furiosa establish him as a morally twisted villain in the Mad Max franchise. Furiosa's box office underperformance raises uncertainty about the future of the Mad Max franchise, including George Miller's plans for The Wasteland.
Nathan Jones, who plays Rictus Erectus in George Miller's Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, has had to release a statement online following multiple harassing messages regarding his character. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga went from highly anticipated to box office bomb, making studios wary of future Mad Max films. Despite great reviews, Furiosa failed to draw audiences, leading to doubts about the franchise's profitability moving forward. Warner Bros. may prioritize other franchises over Mad Max, but a return to a traditional sequel like Mad Max: The Wasteland could still be possible.
What seemed on paper to be one of the biggest hit movies of the summer, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, is now looking to be one of the biggest bombs of the year. The prequel to the critically acclaimed and extremely popular Mad Max: Fury Road that told the story of Furiosa, with Anya Taylor-Joy stepping into the role previously played by Charlize Theron, received positive reviews from critics and could have in the footsteps of Dune: Part Two as a continuation to an Academy Award-nominated blockbuster made by an auteur filmmaker.

Fallout's Season 1 finale was a barrage of revelations that almost broke its main protagonist. The showrunners say they're leaning on this in Season 2 to see how far they can push the character.
Prime Video's Fallout dispelled any doubt it was anything but a proper adaptation of the video game franchise. The show was heavy into the lore but remained accessible to the uninitiated. Much of this appeal is attributed to its three main protagonists, who fans speculated were representative of gamer archetypes. Between Maximus, The Ghoul, and Lucy, the latter is by far the most conflicted yet endearing to audiences. She's also the one who's gone through the roughest hero's journey in Season 1. Series creators Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet told The Hollywood Reporter this was the arc they wanted for her, hinting that Season 2 will push her even further.

The Garfield Movie wins the weekend with an estimated $14 million domestically, but the 2024 summer movie season continues to disappoint. Last week's No. 1 Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga slips all the way to No. 3 as If squeaks by George Miller's latest entry in The Wasteland. All of this weekend's movie titles only managed to make a dissatisfying grand total of $62.5 million.
Summer movie season is usually the time of year replete with blockbusters and massive box office returns. However, 2024s version of the good ole cinematic summertime suffered a major setback over the weekend. And, without a high-profile, new release opening on Friday, May 31, The Garfield Movie clawed its way to the No. 1 spot. Unfortunately, for Warner Bros. Pictures, at least, last weeks top dog, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga slipped all the way to No. 3, and John Krasinskis If squeaked by George Millers latest adventure in The Wasteland to claim the silver medal.

It will be a real shame if George Miller doesn’t get to make his mooted follow-up, The Wasteland, because of the low takings of such a creatively ambitious and oddball film as Furiosa
The film industry is obsessed with box office figures. The Tinseltown trades spend far more time focusing on whichever recent blockbuster has lost $200m than they do on the movies that pick up critical plaudits. There is a constant sense that, with such huge budgets flying around in the era of Avatar: The Way of Water and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny that the entire financial Hollywood house of cards could be about to come crashing down faster than one can mutter “massive CGI mega-budget” under one’s breath.

We have reported that George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga managed to win the Memorial Day weekend box office ahead of The Garfield Movie, but that the overall results were disappointing and that the whole weekend was the worst in 30 years, as far as the box office is concerned. While everyone is praising Furiosa, and we know that the studio is proud of the project, it hasn’t drawn a lot of people to cinemas, and some are afraid that Furiosa‘s result at the box office might influence the future of the Mad Max franchise in a negative way.
As we know, and Miller himself has talked about this, there are ideas for more movies and we know that the story for Mad Max: The Wasteland has already been written, but whether the movie will ever be made might depend on how much money Furiosa earns in its theatrical run,...

Nine years after the release of Mad Max: Fury Road and nearly 45 years after his original Mad Max movie debut, George Miller brought Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. The movie has raised eyebrows for the spectacular action sequences and the gravity of the origin story of the title character after the movie’s premiere at Cannes.

Cannes audiences also honored the Miller-directed movie starring Anya Taylor-Joy as Furiorsa with a seven-minute standing ovation. Further, the critical accolades were an indicator of the fact that Furiosa would be the next big hit in the franchise. However, the expectation of the movie took a U-turn when the movie debuted in the theaters on 23 May.

Did Furiosa’s Poor Box Office Performance Get Another Mad Mad Movie Shelved? (Photo Credit – IMDb)
After a surprisingly bad debut at the box office, George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga might have just ruined the chances of any other Mad Max sequels or prequels. As George Miller wrote Fury Road, he also worked on developing Furiosa and The Wastelands. But given the box office performance of Furiosa, it might have put a halt to the next Mad Max movie.
Forty-five years after George Miller introduced audiences to Mad Max, the auteur may have finally reached the end of the road through the postapocalyptic wasteland unless he can find redemption with his Mad Max films.
