Hollywood’s favorite quipster, Jim Carrey, might be a cherished actor, but it turns out he’s also a ladies’ man, especially when it comes to high-profile actresses in the industry.

The best disaster movies on Prime Video depict humanity facing nature's wrath with thrilling, high-stakes stories. Disaster films show characters trying to save the world or survive amid a natural disaster, offering huge thrills. From survival tales to apocalyptic comedies, the diverse approaches to disaster films on Prime Video provide intense entertainment.
The best disaster movies streaming on Prime Video tap into one of humanity's greatest and most revealing fears: the inevitable end of the world due to natural causes. Indeed, though highly overplayed in Western cinema, natural disaster stories perfectly lay the groundwork for characters and plots that tackle the very limits of human perseverance. In the face of Mother Nature's wrath, only the strongest survive - yet even those resigned to their doomed fates have stories worth telling. As seen with some of the genre's offerings on Prime Video, there are a lot of approaches to such a story.

While Christmas tends to be the default setting for winter horror, 2008’s The Children makes a good argument for terror around the New Year. Many folks would expect leisure and fun after a busy Christmas. However, the chance for relaxation is out of the question in Tom Shankland’s movie. Something terrible has suddenly happened to the kids, and something even worse awaits their parents.
Spending New Year’s Eve with the ‘rents and their relatives is undesirable for most teenagers, but Casey (Hannah Tointon) will have definitely wished for more boring family time after her younger siblings and cousins turn on her and every other grownup nearby. No one past the age of puberty is safe here. As Casey and her closest kin gather at a remote house in the country — a decision that always proves to be as unwise as it is clichéd — The Children steadily reveals its unusual threat.

Sturgill Simpson may be signaling the end of his solo career with his most recent album, but he’s not finished playing live. On Friday night, the country musician brought his bluegrass band to the Outlaw Music Festival in Gilford, New Hampshire, and debuted new music including “Shamrock” from The Ballad of Dood & Juanita.
A fiddle-and-banjo-driven number in its original form, “Shamrock” needs no alterations for Simpson’s live performance as musicians Sierra Hull, Stuart Duncan, Tim O’Brien, and Mike Bub all show off some dazzling instrumental runs. The speedy...

QAnon — the conspiracy-theory movement that sprung up on the far reaches of the internet — is a force with potentially long-lasting and transformational effects, having already placed untold numbers of Americans in its thrall and overtaken one of our two major political parties. It’s also deeply in line with this nation’s traditions of mutual mistrust of authority and our countrymen, and the American passion for pursuing novelty at the expense of logic. Perhaps only America could have created a force like QAnon; the question all of us must grapple with in the years to come is what kind of America QAnon will create.
This is a question “Q: Into the Storm,” a new six-part documentary set to air on HBO, does not meaningfully set out to answer. Director Cullen Hoback, whose films include 2018’s “What Lies Upstream,” set out on the project, set out three years ago to uncover the identity of “Q,...

This spoiler-free review is based on the first two episodes of The Walking Dead: World Beyond.
One of the best things about The Walking Dead‘s expanding universe is that it gives the show’s more talented writers and more skilled producers an opportunity to put their own creative stamp on the show and its legacy. Angela Kang took the reigns of the main property and has improved The Walking Dead significantly under her reign; her pending spinoff with Carol and Daryl shows promise, simply because she’s proven herself as a showrunner and she’s taking over a show with two of the most popular characters still kicking around Alexandria. With The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Matthew Negrete gets his chance to step out on his own, and the initial results are very promising indeed.

The Walking Dead may have—due to circumstances beyond its control—left its viewers in the lurch back in April with its yet-to-air Season 10 finale, but it seems that there’s news to be had about Season 11—casting news, specifically.
Margot Bingham has joined the cast of The Walking Dead for Season 11, reports Deadline. While the trade can’t confirm what role Bingham will play, it’s certainly worth noting that she has already been involved with the series, having voiced the role of Eugene’s (Josh McDermitt) mysterious radio chat-mate/would-be-romance, Stephanie; a fact that might lead one to presume she’s set to play the role in person, now having been properly cast.
The actress will make her Walking Dead onscreen debut in Season 11 after recent television runs on NBC medical drama New Amsterdam, Netflix Spike Lee adaptation comedy She’s Gotta Have It and CBS All Access drama One Dollar.

This The Walking Dead feature contains spoilers for the show and the comic.
You know what they say: if you introduce a radio in the first act of a dystopian zombie play, it had better deliver a mysterious message in the third act.
The Walking Dead has always had a hopeful relationship with radios. The perfect post-apocalypse communication technology has popped up here and there throughout the show’s nine seasons, including during Rick’s attempts to communicate with Morgan in the first season. Then, in the first episode of the post-Rick Walking Dead, “Who Are You Now,” Eugene Porter got his hands on a long-range radio and began the process of refurbishing it to communicate with the outside world.
The Walking Dead season 9’s penultimate episode, “The Calm Before,” featured Eugene and Rosita putting the finishing touches on that radio. In the season finale, “The Storm,” that radio became the star of the show.

This rerelease reminds us how staggeringly clever and ambitious Buster Keaton’s Romeo-and-Juliet drama from 1928 actually was
Buster Keaton’s 1928 silent movie Steamboat Bill, Jr, now on rerelease, is most famous for that staggeringly clever and ambitious shot of the house front with the strategically positioned open window collapsing on top of our hero, leaving him unscathed. It is a sublime vision of innocence being protected by comically benign forces – famously pastiched by British artist and Oscar-winning film-maker Steve McQueen in his 1999 video piece Deadpan. Steamboat Bill, Jr is a Romeo-and-Juliet drama and also a gently tender story of a man coming to respect and love his son. Bill Sr (Ernest Torrence) is the captain of a tatty old pleasure boat who hasn’t seen his son since the boy was a baby. He’s hoping for a strapping lad to help out with the business. If you follow video game movies at all then you should be well aware of the name Uwe Boll. He’s the “visionary” director who gave the world such instant cinema classics as BloodRayne, Far Cry, Alone in the Dark, House of the Dead and In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale (sarcasm alert!).
But even with all of those horrible films, Boll does have a couple of decent ones to his credit: Heart of America, Tunnel Rats, Final Storm and most recently, Max Schmeling. Even though Boll actually has the ability to produce a decent film, he continues to poke the hornet’s nest with controversial films like Postal, Rampage and Auschwitz.
Uwe Boll’s latest film idea is catching a lot of grief in the movie world right now and it’s probably well deserved….

You know it's slim pickings on DVD this week when the biggest new release is Pirate Radio (aka The Boat That Rocked) the British '60s rock n roll comedy that bombed in North American theatres last year. However, this does give a few films that are essentially direct-to-dvd releases a chance to stand out including Defendor starring Woody Harrelson, Broken Lizard's lastest comedy The Slammin' Salmon, and Uwe Boll's surprisingly well-reviewed prison drama Stoic. Also in stores this week: A Nightmare on Elm Street and Apollo 13 on Blu-ray. Do you see anything worth buying or renting? Pirate Radio [1] (+ Blu-ray [2]) Defendor [3] The Slammin' Salmon [4] (+ Blu-ray [5]) Tenderness [6] Stoic [7] Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon [8] The Daisy Chain [9] The Final Storm [10] The Missing Person [11] Ice Twisters [12] A Nightmare on Elm Street Collection [13] Tom & Jerry Tales: The Complete First Season [14] Dallas: The Complete Thirteenth Season [15] Emergency! Upstart distributor Phase 4 Films has given a home to controversial German filmmaker Uwe Boll. Phase 4 has acquired North American rights to three Boll films that include Darfur, the genre filmmaker's departure into serious subject matter. I met Uwe Boll this year at Fantastic Fest. I was extremely nervous, as Boll has a bad history with movie bloggers, but I sucked it up and introduced myself. After speaking to him for about twenty minutes, I have to admit, he’s one of the nicest celebrities I’ve ever met. He was also wearing a shirt that said, “And the Oscar goes to…Uwe Boll,” which means he’s got a heart full of good humor considering his reputation for making awful game adaptations. His film, Rampage, did get a lot of good buzz at Fantastic Fest.

Every time that a new Uwe Boll film comes out, I watch it hoping that this will be the film in which he succeeds in blowing me away; I haven’t had that happen yet. Sure, his next release, Rampage, looks like it may be his finest work to date -- but that is like saying a small bag of garbage is better than a large bag of garbage. Our buddies over at /Film have pointed out a new trailer for Boll’s next film titles Storm, or Final Storm if you check out the IMDb page.
To be honest, with Boll’s track record of video game movies, I fully expected Storm to be about the new Blackberry phone; however, the only synopsis I could find for Storm was on IMDb and it looks like I I’ll have to wait for that Blackberry film:

Oh come on, you know you’ve been waiting for it. Haven’t you? Okay, even if you weren’t, here it is anyway, the trailer for Uwe Boll’s latest, a sorta-apocalyptic thriller (on a budget) called “Final Storm” (formerly “The Storm”). Luke Perry plays a bible-thumping fella who may be the last man alive besides a farmer and his wife, played by Lauren Holly. And oh yeah, their son, too. Here’s a very long and very spoiler-rific synopsis for the movie: Biblical rain, dying animals, and a blood red moon clearly, all is not well on the quiet farm in the countryside where Tom makes a living with his wife Gillian and their young son Graham. Before the cable and power goes out, glimpses of weather related catastrophes on a global scale are hinted upon. Amidst these eerie signs, a soft spoken man named Silas stumbles onto their property,...

The only man in Hollywood busier than Ridley Scott must be Uwe Boll, who has had a videogame-to-film adaptation in theaters or on DVD every twelve minutes since House of the Dead. But word on the streets from Fantastic Fest was that his latest, Rampage, was actually quite good (and not based on any previously existing properties).
Now comes the trailer for his next, a little moody film called Storm, or Final Storm, written by Tim McGregor. The film stars Dumb and Dumber’s Lauren Holly and a back-from-the-abyss Luke Perry, and describes itself via this lengthy (and spoiler-heavy) synopsis:

Has Uwe Boll been replaced by a talented pod-person? Or is the world actually coming to an end? These are my thoughts as I watch the trailer for the man's new post-apocalyptic film, Storm (aka "Final Storm"). Why? Because not only does it looks well shot and well acted, but it actually sounds thoughtful. Of course, Boll didn't write the film. That was the work of Canadian writer Tim McGregor of who I've heard good rumblings. So yeah, I'm not sure what it is, but Storm certainly has an interesting quality to it and I'm curious to see it now. God, I feel dirty...

So quietearth and I decided that the moratorium on all things Uwe Boll will be temporarily lifted due to two things. One, the raging Boll impressed us with his latest, Rampage (reviews here and here), and two, he's got an apocalypse thriller on the way called Final Storm (once called "The Storm"). So for now, he's on probation.

Even more disconcerting is how quiet Tom notices everything is... neighbors, cars, birds, crickets, all are nowhere to be seen nor heard.

Berlin -- German director Uwe Boll has found a new way to finance his genre output -- going to the Web to draw in "co-producers" willing to cough up 33 euros ($49) each to back his latest, the terrorist disaster tale "Blackout."
Boll hopes to raise $18.5 million, 50 bucks at a time, for "Blackout" through the film's Web site, TheBlackoutFilm.com. Participants who sign up, and transfer the money, are promised a limited-edition DVD of the film plus a chance to win a trip to the set and other prizes.
The site will be open till March 31. If the planned budget is not reached by then, but at least 43% of the desired cash has been collected, Boll may elect to make the movie with a smaller budget. If not, he says he will return most of the cash to investors. The site claims that at least 27 euros ($40) from each payment will be returned...

Lightning rod of creativity Uwe Boll has tapped former sideburns-wearer Luke Perry to star in his newest masterpiece The Storm. The Storm, so says a press release, is about a devastating storm. Forgive us for waxing nostalgic, but we remember a time when we couldn’t go into a girl’s bedroom without Tiger Beat cut-outs of Mr. Perry festooned on every corner. Okay....we’re making that up. We never made it as far as their bedroom. Unless you count our cousin Mindy in Scarsdale, but let’s not get into that story right now. But the point is, Perry used to be King. And now he’s working with Uwe Boll. Perry’s co-star will be Lauren Holly, whose credits include The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, Down Periscope and the heavily acronymed NCIS. While we applaud Herr Boll for branching out from his video game roots, something tells...

No matter how many crappy movies Uwe Boll delivers, and no matter how bad they do at the box office, the man always finds somebody to give him a budget and let him do his thing.
Boll is currently shooting "The Storm" in Vancouver, and Lauren Holly and Luke Perry have signed on to star in the apocalyptic thriller, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Holly plays a wife and mother who tries to deal with an approaching storm. Perry stars as a stranger who's apparently the only one who can do something about the catastrophic event.
Holly's credits include "The Chumscrubber," "Dumb & Dumber" and television's "Chicago Hope." As for Perry, he's best known for his role as Dylan McKay on "Beverly Hills, 90210."
Boll recently directed "Postal" and "In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale." The latter was actually not as disastrous as the rest of his unnecssary flicks.

Uwe Boll: still here! Are you really surprised? The guy has never responded to criticism in his life, and even though a petition to get him to retire from filmmaking for good gained considerable online traction, Boll is now dragging some icons of the 90s into his wild and wooly world. Lauren Holly, the love interest from Dumb and Dumber, and Luke Perry will star in The Storm, which sounds like Boll's attempt to give Roland Emmerich a run for his apocalypse money. Holly plays a woman already dealing with an unnamed "end of days scenario" when Perry arrives in the guise of a man named Silas, a mysterious stranger "who holds the key to the approaching doom." The key to stopping it or blowing everything up? Or both? Who knows! That's the fun with Uwe Boll-- there is literally no way of predicting where the hell this...

Uwe Boll is to take a break from adapting every video game property he can get his hands on, to make an apocalyptic thriller called The Storm, starring Lauren Holly and Luke Perry. Holly, having previously lent her talents to Dumb and Dumber, The Chumscrubber and What Women Want, has been flying below the radar for some time now (a stint on NCIS better left forgotten). Beverly Hills 90210 grauate Perry, has appeared in such movie classics as Fogbound and Dishdogz but is curently making waves in the surf/bible hybrid series John From Cincinnati. The not-at-all-like-a-video-game plot follows a woman who must face up to the world's impending doom, when she meets a mysterious man called Silas who seems to hold the key. Unlikely to near the grand scale of The Day After Tomorrow with its $5 million budget, the movie is nonetheless shooting in Vancouver for a 2009 release.
