Didn't really live up

I don't know exactly what I was expecting, but the film didn't really live up to expectations for me. Not to say there weren't moments.

A boys academy for gay men. The school affords almost complete freedom to the young men. But beneath the surface rage the usual romantic entanglements, rivalries, and jealousies.

Much of the story revolves around the seniors competing for parts in the end of year pageant.

And then there is the Schoolmaster, who has his own secrets and tortured past. His own demons and his own hidden fantasies.

The movie is entertaining, though it becomes a bit tedious at parts.

The best moment of the film is later in the movie when Frank delivers his soliloquy to the Headmaster, contrasting the generations of gay men. He (Frank), and the Schoolmaster, who suffered being outcasts, and the current crop of gay boys at the school, coddled in a false sense of reality, safety, and acceptance.

Cold have been interesting but wasn't

Saw this as a part of Gothenburg Film Festival, where it premiered.

I read the description and it sounded interesting and out of the ordinary, it made me curious. I havn't read the book it's based on, actually I havn't heard of it before. Anyway, I gave it a go and it certainly didn't live up to my hope of an interesting movie. I didn't feel that the actors where true and genuine. And the story... I felt there where nothing there, it's so thin and cropped. The best part was a song in the end of the movie. Otherwise just a waste of time. It cold have been better but that would have needed a better story and sad to say, better actors.

Utopia

A very queer movie that teases with seemingly ridiculous narratives, a completely separate reality. Sometimes erotic, often intense, but awaking from this dream like boarding school, the real world still exists, and it can be painful. Diverse and unique, it was an interesting film on the queer community. Thoughtful, and ridiculous. A reminder that the real world is not easy for queer people. Whether it has a happy ending is entirely up to you. Suspend reality and ride the roller coaster. You may enjoy it.
