Major Lazer recruited South African singer Babes Wodumo for their booming new song “Orkant/Balance Pon It,” highlighted by auto-tuned choruses, whirring synth lines and frenetic Edm drops.
The group paired the rhythmic track with a vibrant video filmed in Durban, South Africa that shows ordinary people dancing on city streets and buses, in classrooms and schoolyards.

Season 2 of The Deuce not only has new faces, the theme song is now updated for the 1977 setting to feature more shots of the porn movie business, discos and other late-Seventies imagery. They are now accompanied by a brand new version of Elvis Costello’s “This Year’s Girl” made especially for the show. It combines Costello’s vocals from the original 1978 version with new vocals by Natalie Bergman from the band Wild Belle, to turn it into a decades-spanning duet with a faster beat.

In December 1966, the Canyon Cinema Cooperative in San Francisco, California published their first Catalogue of experimental and avant-garde films to rent. This was four years after the Film-Makers’ Cooperative had begun distributing underground films in New York City.
Canyon first listed films to rent in the November ’66 edition of their News newsletter, then published the catalog separately one month later. In the book Canyon Cinema, Scott MacDonald notes that the News listed just 31 filmmakers with films. Only six of them had multiple films listed; while the rest listed just a single film each.
The first standalone catalogue expanded on that first listing of filmmakers, but is still a modest publication at just sixteen pages, plus the covers. The catalogue includes 45 filmmakers — some are listed as pairs — and many more filmmakers have multiple films listed. For example, Larry Jordan has eight films listed, Robert Nelson six and Bruce Baillie four.

An epic battle for sexiest male vocalist played out on Thursday's Late Late Show with James Corden.

James Corden, you've been challenged. Thursday night, the Late Late Show host made quite the statement when he said, "I'm probably the sexiest male vocalist alive." Viewers heard it loud and clear—including Usher, one of the evening's guests and, of course, the artist behind such hits like "Yeah!" "Burn" and "Caught Up." Needless to say, the star had a bit of a problem with Corden's declaration. To settle the score, the two launched into a riff-off featuring some of the most sensual tracks in music history—including "Mercy Mercy Me" by Marvin Gaye and "All My Life" by K-Ci & JoJo backed by A cappella...

The Foo Fighters have a confession to make.
The rock band made their debut on James Corden's "Carpool Karaoke" last month, belting out their greatest hits like "Best of You," "Learn to Fly" and "All My Life."
As fun as the segment looked, the bandmates admitted that the actual filming wasn't that joyous.
"By hour three in dude’s car, it got less fun,” guitarist Pat Smear told NMEin an interview released on Friday. "It kinda went on. When we stopped at Guitar Center, that felt like we were done, but it was like, 'This is halfway.'"

Well, that just got awkward! The Foo Fighters just admitted to NME that their experience filming with James Corden for Carpool Karaoke last month was not as fun as it appeared and was even "a little uncomfortable." With supporting turns in two of summer’s biggest movies — including box office juggernaut “The Fate of the Furious” and the upcoming and much-hyped “Guardians of the Galaxy” sequel — Kurt Russell is back in a very big way. But despite reentering the cultural consciousness with a slew of splashy roles over the past couple of years, Russell never really went away. He just got choosier. That kind of freedom has always marked Russell’s five-decade-long career, one that includes a childhood spent in literal contractual service to Walt Disney; an action-heavy ’80s that saw him star in such classics as “The Thing,” “Escape From New York” and “Big Trouble in Little China”; and a critically acclaimed third act that’s rife with unique choices.

Movie fans will often find innovative ways to put their fandom on display, whether it be crafting unique cosplay designs or just spending days in line to buy tickets for a movie. A new report out of the U.K. sheds some light on a 38-year-old father of two, who spent a whopping four and a half years of his life, and 70,000 pounds ($86,345) to create his own retro theater, in tribute to the now-defunct ABC theater chain in the U.K. This 34-seat theater was built entirely from scratch, and simply has to be seen to be believed.

Turns out, actor Gal Gadot feels the same way. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Gadot discussed her collaboration with Patty Jenkins on set. "All my life I’ve been working with male directors which I’ve really enjoyed. And I’m lucky in that I’ve worked with men who have a lot of respect for women. But working with a woman is a different experience," she told them. "It feels like the communication is different. We talk about emotions. With Patty, it’s a thing now, we communicate with our eyes. She doesn’t need to say a thing. If I’m hurt,...

Earlier this week, Warner Bros. confirmed that they will be showcasing their highly-anticipated Wonder Woman at Comic-Con during their Hall H presentation on Saturday, July 23, which will also feature Suicide Squad, The Lego Batman Movie, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Kong: Skull Island and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. While we don't know for sure, it's possible that the studio could unveil the first trailer for Wonder Woman. While we get ready for the convention, four new photos have surfaced featuring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine.
The photos come courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, who also got to speak with Gal Gadot about returning as Wonder Woman, after making her debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Before Patty Jenkins was brought on to direct this superhero adventure, the studio was considering Breaking Bad director Michelle MacLaren. When asked why she thought it was important for a woman to direct this movie,...

My mom died thinking she threw away a copy of Superman number one from 1938.
Yes, I do indeed realize just how lame that must sound, and it would be if I gave a flying fish about that book with regards to my mother. I don’t but it’s important to the story I’m trying to write and just so I’m crystal clear, I’d happily burn the last copy left on Earth to spend just a minute more with my mother.
It was Superman number two she tossed out, and you can read the whole story entitled A Comic Book Tale on ComicMix.
I told her it was number one while trying to make the point that she should never throw out another comic book of mine, ever, and she never did. I have been keeping that my secret weapon for when I needed a real ‘gotcha’ to use on my mom.

I must confess, for years I have been watching movies in a substandard fashion. Just unboxing my HDTV and changing the picture setting to “Movie” was as far as I ever got. If I planned to continue spending my time reading Blu-ray reviews to make sure I was getting the best quality transfers and audio tracks something needed to change. Enter the almighty internet to show me a mostly free solution to get my home theatre in shape. This was mostly brought to my attention while shopping for a 4K home theatre setup I never intended to purchase. While reading some TV reviews I noticed that everyone kept referring to getting their television professionally calibrated, which I had never heard of. So I took to Google and found this article. After running through those steps I realized just how bad things were. The most surprising being that I wasn’t...

Season 10 of American Idol. Top 4 results night. May 12, 2011.
I remember it vividly, joyfully — but not just because the exceptional Haley Reinhart (who’d been enduring egregious sabotage from judges Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson) improbably survived over rocker dude James Durbin. Mostly, the date is blazed into my memory because of a surprise delivery I’d received a few hours earlier from the New Jersey State Division of Youth and Family Services: Three-month-old foster twins, ridiculously cute boys whom my husband and I had only learned about earlier that morning.

Apple marked World Autism Awareness Day with a pair of videos about Dillan, an autistic teen who communicates through his iPad. The first Apple autism video, “Dillan’s Voice,” shows how the company’s products helped the nonverbal Dillan break through and express himself. We see him work out, jog, compose his thoughts with his mother, and at one point even deliver a speech to a cheering crowd. “My name is Dillan, and I am autistic,” he uses the iPad to say in the video, which you can watch above. “All my life I wanted so badly to connect with people.

Transporting us to a richly detailed Cuba, Viva tells the story of Jesus (Héctor Medina), a meek hairdresser whose clients include drag queens at a local Havana nightclub and elderly women who don’t have enough to pay him. With his mother having passed away and his estranged father in prison, he gets by on his own, yet is struggling to break out of his shell and genuinely express himself. While this story’s structure is certainly one we’ve witnessed before, Irish director Paddy Breathnach brings an emotional authenticity through a compassionate touch.
Jesus’ closest friends are the locals that attract tourists and a neighborhood “whore” — as one of his clients calls her — who takes advantage of his local dingy apartment, complete with a tattered mattress. One evening, when she leaves behind her lipstick, Jesus applies it; with a few glances into the mirror, his newfound dreams of participating...

The Voice's Jordan Smith is experiencing a winning streak.
The singer, 21, proposed to the love of his life, Kristen Denny – and, as he shared with glee on Twitter, "She said Yes!"
It all went down on New Year's Day, when the 21-year-old vocalist announced their engagement with a sweet photo of the spouses-to-be and her new ring.
And then there was his victory on NBC's singing competition in December, which came on the heels of him topping Adele on iTunes.
"[Denny] came on stage and hugged me and just told me, 'This is it,'" Smith told People of what happened after his name was called.

Always happy to put her perky physique on display, Victoria Justice was all smiles at the Fun Fearless Awards hosted by Cosmo for Latinas last night (October 13).
The “Eye Candy” cutie worked her magic in a short and sleeveless dress complete with a plunging neckline and plenty of punky accents, teamed with silver strappy heels and a matching clutch.
Victoria told the November 2015 issue of Health magazine that although she always looks amazing, she has been privately fighting against Hashimoto’s Syndrome, a thyroid autoimmune disease. “A few years ago, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, which is a thyroid autoimmune disorder. This Korean acupuncturist put me on a super-strict diet, where I was a pescatarian…. I also couldn’t eat any sugar, wheat or dairy…. They had put me on this thyroid medication, and I think the levels were too high for me because it caused my skin to break out…...

Victoria Justice is opening up about a recent health struggle.
"A few years ago, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's, which is a thyroid autoimmune disorder," the actress, 22, tells Health magazine in its November cover story.
The disease, which can lead to an underactive thyroid gland and affect the metabolism, caused acne and weight fluctuations. "All my life I've always had great skin, so it was really devastating," Justice says.
"Also, at first, I was losing a lot of weight, then I went on tour and I started gaining weight, and it was the most I'd ever gained in my life.

The Strain, Season 2, Episode 6, “Identity”
Written by Justin Britt-Gibson
Directed by Howard Deutsch
Airs Sundays at 10pm Et on FX
There is a frustrating trend in the treatment of a recently introduced character in The Strain, and “Identity” warrants a more detailed analysis of her. She is the daughter of the Tandoori restaurant owners and a key character in the intersection of Gus and Angel’s character arcs: Aanya. The relationship of Gus and Angel is still rocky, between Angel’s distrust of a young man who grew up in Harlem and Gus’s insistence on getting Angel to admit to a past that he wants to deny. The series has established the pasts of both of these characters, and although Aanya is a participant in the story, she has not received equal treatment; she is less a character and more a device. It is only through Gus’s questions...
